Armin Nightray had always believed that Hogwarts was one of the most amazing places that one can ever visit. He had heard stories about it from his cousin who was attending the said school. She had told him how magnificent and wonderful the place was. And though the older Nightray was pretty easy to please, he knew that she wouldn't lie. However, as soon as he set foot inside the castle, he realized that she was wrong. The place was beyond wonderful. He couldn't really describe it. Sure, he had been surrounded with magic all his life. He had been used to it. Their manor was pretty huge too and with his aunt living with them, there was bound to be an abundance of extravagant things around him. But the castle was different. Despite being used to magic, it was like it was his first time seeing one when he entered the great hall along with the other students.

The eleven year old was too amazed with the decorations inside the hall that he had unconsciously let go of his twin's hand. They had been together since the ride to the school but with Armin's hyper activeness, he got separated from the much calmer Rivalle. Usually, he would be bothered, but at that moment, he was too focused with his surroundings.

His train of thought, however, was interrupted when the headmaster announced the beginning of sorting. He had already heard about it from his older cousins so he already knew what to expect. That, however, cannot be said about the other kids with him. There were a number of them who had never known that they were wizards until they received the invitation to Hogwarts. The looks of confusion on their faces amused the eleven year old. "Actually, if you weren't fit for any of the houses, that ugly looking hat will eat your heads." He told them in a-matter-of-fact tone. He was a good liar, and the fear that took over the confusion on the other kids faces made him laugh. But alas, his lie was soon discovered when the students began to be called one by one. He tried to look for his twin then, but before he could spot that familiar face, his name was called. Shrugging, he walked confidently to the front. "You know, in this distance, you're actually much uglier. But as they say, looks can be really deceiving." He thought as he waited for the hat to decide.

Sam walked into the Great Hall with the rest of the students. It was amazing site that she saw. She couldn't believe that she was at Hogwarts. Sam had looked around at everything including the students. She liked what she saw. When it was time for the sorting to start. She wasn't really listening. Sam was looking at the teachers. She had decided that she better listen because she didn't want to miss her turn. When it was Sam's turn she walked up to the hat and put it on. Sam had said to the hat "please sort me" then she waited.

Cassiopeia is shaking with excitement, she has been waiting for this day since her birthday (almost half a year ago!), she fiddles nervously with her skirt, a bad habit her mum hates. She couldn't stop imagining what her life will now be like, spending her days learning about magic and not math and literature. She was also a bit sad, this is the first time her parents would never get to share her emotions. Her joy, her hope, as well as her feeling of uneasiness. She looked at all the other 1st years, she liked the mannerisms of a few of them. A little group of kids seemed to know each other quite well and kept bantering one another.

She heard chattering and shuffling from the other side of the breath taking doors. The Professor came to collect us, and lined all of us in alphabetical order (according to surname.) Then when everyone was ready, Professor opened the doors and Cassiopeia's senses where overwhelmed. It was more spectacular than she ever imagined, four long tables filled with happy and laughing students, the smell of fresh food danced in her nose. Fancy cups, called goblets I think, where filled with a orange coloured juice. Peach? orange? In the front of the hall there was a teachers table, there where all looking at us (the unsorted) with an eager look. She studied everyone with a amazed look. She had learned on the Express that the four houses where Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.

When she finished walking to the end of the hall, and accidentally bumping into the student in front of her (yes, she did apologize!) She waited, getting a bit impatient, she heard her name called

"Feilds, Cassiopeia"

She slowly waddled over to the stool, sat down and waited. Butterflies erupted in her stomach, the god kind. Without even hearing the hat's voice she knew he was going to put her where she belonged.

"I think there's a quiet wisdom to you - a lesser magical accessory might place you in Hufflepuff, but I can see you flourishing most under the hospices of RAVENCLAW!"

Xavier stood in the middle of the crowd, careful not to be seen by his future classmates from behind, and to not be seen by his future professors from the front. This was literally the most uncomfortable moment of his life, but still everything led up to this moment. He knew that when the Headmistress called his name, from that moment forward he was going to be a changed person. All he wanted to do was to make his mother and father proud, and he prayed that this moment was going to be it. Lost in his own thoughts, Xavier didn't hear when the Headmistress called his name from the long scroll of potential first years.

Shuffling down to the heartbeat of the Great Hall, Xavier's hands would become moist with sweat, and his mind would begin to race with all the what-ifs that could come out from this. His mother and father were both Ravenclaws, and all he wanted to do was be a Ravenclaw with them, but he knew that the other houses were great as well. No matter what, Xavier was going to be the best he could be, no matter what house he was in or the obstacles that came from it. Sitting down infront of everyone else, the headmistress looked him into his eyes and whispered, "Ready?", into his ear. With a silent nod, she placed the sorting hat on his head, and all Xavier could do was wait for the verdict from the object that held his entire life here in his hands.

Kaenon looked around the room in awe. This place was incredible. The muggle-born had never seen a place like this before, and it just became more incredible with every step he took. He was still pinching himself to make sure he was not sleep-walking and dreaming all this up. He stood in the crowd nervously, and tried to memorize all the faces he saw. He knew virtually no-one here, since to his knowledge none of his relatives were like him. He had met some other children on the train ride here, but them and their names were far out of his mind as he looked and listened to the woman that was addressing them. The Headmistress. It was really, really weird.

And then there was the incredible magical talking hat. That certainly made Kae's eyes grow ridiculously wide. The list of names started creeping closer to his own, and he could feel his heartbeat trying to rip its way out of his chest. As he heard his name, Kaenon looked around nervously, and walked up to the stool at the fornt of the hall quickly. He sat carefully and dropped his hands into his lap. He took several deep breaths and jumped slightly as he hat was lowered onto his head, stopping his eyes from seeing the light. He knew nothing of the houses that he had heard being called out, but he was sure he'd have a good time in all of them.

Maya stepped into the great hall and looked around in awe. She wished her family could see her now. Her mother would always be with her, even if she wasn't there physically, she was with her, in her heart. She smiled as she looked around the room and continued to move up as more and more names got called. She would be going soon too she supposed. They were doing last names, hers started with C so it made sense, right? The one thing that terrified her about being here, was the fact that she had to leave her family. Her mother had only died last year and since then it had been Maya that was picking up the slack and looking after her brothers when her dad was at work. He was coping as best he could with everything, but he just wasn't as competent as her mother. As she watched on, Maya said a little prayer that God would watch over her father and her brothers and keep them safe. The community was doing a lot for them as it was, but there was only so much they could do. She had to admit, if it weren't for the community, then she wouldn't be here right now.

"Corby, Maya."

Her name was called and she moved quickly to sit on the stool. She didn't know what was going to happen now, but she was both excited and nervous. She looked up in awe at the transparent roof as a hat was placed on her head. She was so excited to be here, but her last thoughts as she waited were whether or not her brothers had finished their carrots.

Standing behind his siblings, Jean allowed the mindless chatter of the other first years wash over him without taking any of it in. He'd learned that particular skill from years of living in Snow manor with his many siblings and other family members. With a sigh, the boy followed the crowd, keeping close to his brother who was the oldest of the four of them. Jean usually did what Lucien told him to do even when he knew it would get him in trouble and even when he disagreed with it. It was just easier to go along with things. Sometimes, Jean wished he was the older brother.

Tiptoeing to get a better look at the sorting hat he had heard so much about, Jean wondered what house he would be sorted into. He knew that some of his siblings had been Slytherins, which meant he'd probably be somewhere else. Everyone knew that Jean was a bit different. With a sigh, Jean moved forward when he heard his name. Since his name came first alphabetically, he was the first of the quads to get sorted. Taking a seat, Jean winced as the hat was placed on his head. He was glad when there was no pain. Licking his lips, the boy waited to find out where he belonged.

Jade was about ready to bounce out of her shoes from excitement, talking to anyone who would listen to her. "I heard that the hat has never been wrong, but I mean, how is that possible?" she quickly asked a blonde next to her, who simply ignored her. She brushed it off, knowing that there would be plenty of other people willing to talk to her here. More than likely there'd be other gardeners there too, people to actually discuss plants with! All of her friends at home didn't care what was in season or the fact that a sunflower that was completely out of season was standing ten feet tall in her backyard. Only her family seemed to really think it was fascinating, especially after she had received the notification that she had some sort of some magical ability. No one else in her family had it, and her brother had been extremely jealous when he found out, and it just made her feel all the more special. Now though, the brunette was among her own kind, and couldn't wait to learn everything about magic that she could.

Jade internally groaned every time a name was called that wasn't hers, wanting to know already what house she would be in to make friends. Each house would clap each time another student joined their ranks, and she already wanted one of those tables to be clapping for her. She didn't even care which one; she'd heard good and bad things about all four houses. Slytherin was cunning but kind of jerks, Ravenclaw clever but out there, Gryffindor brave but prideful, and Hufflepuff kind but not often extraordinary. At least that was the chatter she heard from all the other unsorted students while they had waited for the doors to open. She had never been one to believe the stereotypes, but it was all the information she had, so that's what she went with. Finally the name "Tova, Jade," rang out and she leapt up the stairs, sitting down and resisting the urge to pull the hat on top of her head herself.

"Sometimes it's the most ordinary that's really the most extraordinary of all - besides, I think you'll quite enjoy yourself in HUFFLEPUFF!"

Olivia wasn't usually one for poems, but the rhyming kind were all right by her. When the Sorting Hat finished with 'Let's play,' she felt revved up, like those cars muggles sped around in. Olivia loved to play. She was not one of those kids shaking in their shoes. Nope; when it was her turn, she stepped right up to the stool, her chin held high like Mom always told her to. The tattered hat was placed on her head and she wondered if the thing made up its own songs.

The ceiling of the Great Hall towered above in a spray of dizzying stars and glittering light. It was hard to focus on the mumble and bumble which seemed to pursue the first year students upon their entrance to the room when candles bobbed and dipped elegantly in the sky.
Emerald felt like a fizzling sparkler had caught her arm. Blood pulsed and thrust through her every vein. Her nerves were fit to burst with static from the buzz of excitement that filled the crowd of young pupils. Once they had all reached their standing point near the front of the bellowing hall, Emerald found her legs beginning to silently quake. She couldn't wait to be sorted, to sit with her new house, future friends and co-students. It was thrilling.

After what felt like twelve long hours of hearing cheer after cheer as yet another student was sorted into one of the four houses and found their places to sit, Emerald heard her name being called out. A bolt of shock struck her heart, but she was going to be brave. After all, she thought to herself pleasantly as she made her way to the front of the crowd and perched her pudgy frame upon the delicate wooden stall, it was only a few moments sitting beneath an old hat.. Right?

"I'm afraid there aren't any houses whose colours are pinks and oranges, so you'll have to be creative while you're wearing the blues of RAVENCLAW!"

Ariadne has always adored magic. Magic was her escape. It was her only source of amusement and enjoyment. Kids her age often mocked her about it. They didn't understand though. Despite growing up surrounded by it, she'd always find something new every time she'd witness someone perform a spell or a charm. The girl appreciates every simple thing in life. In fact, she rather be left alone to her own devises than be showered by all the extravagance in the world. But still they wouldn't understand. Thus, she never did learn how to deal with other people. Her brother wasn't that bad, but it was hard for her to connect with him. It's not his fault though, being extremely awkward was already in the young girl's nature. That's why when she learned that she had been accepted to Hogwarts, she didn't know what to do. She wanted to discover everything that the world has to offer, but she was nervous and scared. She didn't really want to leave. The world outside was far too big for her. It was far too dangerous for a kid who hadn't acclimated well to being in the presence of foreign things.

Yet despite those fears, there was something that sparked in her. She couldn't exactly point out what it was but it felt nice. And when she finally set her foot inside the enormous castle that would be her home for the next seven years, that spark grew even brighter. And she realized then why. She'd be able to learn new things here, things that even books couldn't teach her. She was scared, yes, but strangely, she was excited too.

Ariadne Nightray was too nervous to the point that she was almost hyperventilating. This would be the first time that she'd be away from her family and she wasn't sure what to do. Her heart was beating so fast that she was sure that any second, it would be able to jump out of her chest. And then she'd die, which she feared. She didn't want to die yet. She was still too young. Though she knew that time waits for no one and that she was bound to die anyway, she didn"t want that to happen yet. She was too absorbed in her thoughts that she almost jumped in surprise when the headmaster began to call out names. They were going to be sorted. She had heard a lot of things about sorting from her cousins. Armin once told her that should she not fit in any one the houses, she'd be thrown back home. Which she feared. She voiced her concerns to her brother but he only said that it would be silly for them to not let her in. She, however, thinks, that he was just saying that so she wouldn't panic and thus wouldn't bother him too. Thus when her family name was called out, she froze. She had two cousins that would be entering the school along with her. But of the three of them, her name would come first. She wasn't that close with them though. She was never that close with anyone anyway.

Ariadne knew that she was supposed to go in front to be sorted. She knew that but she was unsure. She didn't really trust her body to move as gracefully as the other kids did. And that was proven true as she stumbled in her way to the front. She kept her head low and tried to avert her gaze from the students. She was quite sure that she was walking at her normal pace but it seemed that the walk to where the sorting hat is was taking her forever. After what seemed like an eternity for her, she finally reached her place and sat on the stool provided for the first years that will be sorted. She hadn't had a clue as to what to expect but she couldn't wait to have the hat cover her head. She just wanted this ordeal to be done so she can lock herself up in a room and read. Being showered with this much attention suffocates her. She needed some space to breath. "I don't know how to deal with this", is all that she was able to say before the hat covered her vision.

"We better make this one quick for you, then! RAVENCLAW!"

This was it the moment Nozomi had been looking foreword to for like the last ten minutes of the train ride here. Waiting for the Sorting Hat to finishing singing had felt like forever. To make matters worse her last name was Koshiba so she was dead in the middle. To make matters worse Nozomi was starving and she knew that she would still have to wait for the rest of the lot to be sorted before she could even eat. Nozomi was kicking herself for not sneaking a few snacks in her robes for this wait. As the clock ticked on it came closer and closer to Nozomi's turn.

Finally her named was called and she ran to the front. A professor cleared there throat and Nozomi blushed and slowed down as she took a seat on the warm stool and put the hat on her head. Of course the Sorting Hat would be to big and would cover her eyes. There was nothing to do but sit and wait. She couldn't help but wonder what the Sorting Hat had seen when it had sorted her siblings. Had the Sorting Hat known that Eden and Hoshi would turn out to be such rotten apples or that Tohoru would spend his whole life a love stuck puppy? So many questions where right there in Nozomi's head and she had no idea to go about asking them. Then there was the question of what house she would be sorted into? Oh man that was scary. What if her head of house didn't like her? Was it to late to take the hat off and run home? No Nozomi was fearless so she took a breath and waited for the Sorting Hat to do its job and sort her.

"Hmm, you might not be like the other Koshibas, but there's little doubt to me that you're still a SLYTHERIN!"

Maddy stared around the Great Hall nervously. She'd just arrived at Hogwarts, and the Sorting Ceremony had begun. According to Mom, the Sorting Ceremony was when the first years in Hogwarts were sorted into one of the four Houses; Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. She didn't really prefer any of them, but the young girl was excited and nervous to see what House she'd be placed in. There was one very strange thing, though. Apparently you were sorted by a talking hat? What?

"Karacross, Madelina!"
Maddy heard her name from the very front of the Great Hall echo.
"Oh no..." She thought, standing up and walking to the stool in the front. Legs shaking, palms sweating, she sat on the stool. The Sorting Hat was placed onto her long, brunette hair tied back in a ponytail.
A voice came out of absolutely nowhere. Maddy knew it was likely the Sorting Hat.

Tabitha gasped in amazement as the doors to the great hall opened up in front of her. Just a month ago she had learned about magic, and now here she was. It was incredible. She just wished her friends could be here with her. Tabitha just imagined all the things they could get up to with magic. All of a sudden the hall got quiet, and a woman began to talk. Tabitha wasn't really paying attention. There were too many things to look at. All of a sudden someone was singing. Tabitha looked up to the front of the hall and was shocked to see that the person singing was in fact a hat. A hat! Before she could take it what was happening names were being called, the hat was talking, and sorting people into houses. Tabitha got nervous. The hat got inside your head? Would it hurt? The next thing she knew it was her turn. The girl walked briskly to the front, praying to god she wouldn't trip in front of all these people, and sat on the stool. She closed her eyes tight as they placed the sorting hat on her head. 'Hello?' Was the only thing she could think to think.

Francesca pulled on her robes excitedly as she stood in the ground of first years. These children would all be in he same grade as her, going through school just as she was. Francis knew little of the school, as she was the first to be attending - probably the only member of her attending the establishment, but she was excited none-the-less. She only knew one other person here, and he was coming to the school for the first time too, the only member of his family here. And she wasn't planning on talking to him too often, so she only had her imagination to consult when looking around the hall with its bright lights and hundreds of students. There appeared to be four houses, a green one, blue one, yellow one and red one. She had no preference, since she wouldn't mind being in all of them, however, with her last name, she would possibly have to wait a little bit before she was called up. However, when she did hear her name, she made her way through the crowd quickly, and approached the stool.

Francis fidgeted on the stool for a moment, before settling down and grinning excitedly. The hat was placed on her head, and slid down to cover her eyes. The darkness did not snuff her excitement, it only managed to make it grow. She sat on her hands in silence as she listened to the magical hat, waiting for it to say something.

"Hmm, you're far from the usual type for it, but I think you'll get on smashingly in SLYTHERIN!"

Saffron Ironsong was unsure about what she was meant to do here. Not about the hat that was perfectly clear. Try it on get sorted. She didn't much care which house she got into seeing as they all had their good and bad points. Hufflepuff did seem like it fit her tanatius nature while Gryffindor was right online with the discipline that she had reseaved at home or at least that's what it seemed. Ravenclaw fed her bookish nature while Slytherin fit more her crafty side, the side of herself that was always looking for another angle to explore. No what she was unsure about was the other children around her. She ran her hand through her at the moment forest green hair wondering if, not for the first time, she would be able to service the school year, or in fact her life at this school with little or no social interaction.

These children where strange to her nothing like where she had come from. She felt so very out of place that part of her wanted to turn the other way and run back for the train. Instead she fixed her bang on the right side of cheek and listened to the names as they where being called. 'another strange thing about this place, I doubt the bones girl's family really deals with bones. And what kind of profession has one dealing with snow?' Saffron thought. "Ironsong, Saffron." rang out and she could feel everyone looking at her. If there was anything Saffron hated more than the limelight she was hardpressed to name it at the moment. She walked up to the hat and sat on the stool. The hat dropped her eyes and Saffron waited for what came next.

Kylar strolled slowly into the Great Hall. He hadn't met many students yet, and was slightly unclear what was going on. He admired a lot of things in the Great Hall, including magic. His eyes lit up like a child in a toy store. He paused for a moment to allow it all to sink in. And before he could even sit down, "Gaunt, Kylar." Unaware of what he was suppose to do, he paused, and began to sweat. All eyes where on him, and he had not the slightest idea of what to do. One of the professor, or adults, was motioning him to the stool that sat a few feet in front of him. He inched closer and closer to the stool; he was more terrified of the hat. It wasn't everyday you see a hat that talked, and let alone, had a face. Kylar then slowly rotated his body and sat down. He cringed at the breeze that left the top of his head as the sorting hat was placed. He sat waiting, for what ever he had to wait for...

<SIZE size="50">The lose red bow, barely tying her golden blonde locks up, slipped further with each little step. The young girl was in complete awe, she had never known such a world existed. She was what was called a muggleborn, and she was nervous. It was difficult enough that this was her first time in New Zealand, she'd only lived on this side of the world for a few months, it was new. All of it. The option of going to study in France had been in front of her, but her father had insisted that New Zealand would be good enough. Though, Victoire doubted that he actually know what good actually was in this case. He was a muggle, he had never been in contact of magic, he had never seen magic used, nor would he for another while. Victoire it seemed was the odd one of her family. And so, she found herself alone, in New Zealand, at Hogwarts New Zealand, with a crowd of boys and girls her own age, and she had no idea what to expect. It was strange to her that she was in such a place. How could this all possibly exist and yet, the muggles not know that it was there. She couldn't understand it, but she was eager to learn all that she could. It was a new and interesting opportunity. Victoire would fight to stay in this school, she would do all she could to be the best student. Victoire wanted to prove herself to all of these students who more than likely actually knew about the magical world, and all the things like that. She knew that she would be part of a small amount of people who didn't know much about magic. Sure, since getting the letter, she'd gotten everything on the list, and read up, but it didn't really all add up. She needed more. More to read. Thankfully, she was finally at the school, and they would be sorted and at last she'd be able to go find the library and read up on some of the things that had been puzzling her. Victoire realised they had stopped, so she took the opportunity to fix the red ribbon in her hair. Tighten it, and make it a better bow. It was the ribbon given to her by the woman who'd practically raised her, and that hadn't really been her mother. She let her eyes look over the other students. Victoire, stood a little smaller than most, she large blue eyes, and long, curly blonde hair. Strands of which framed her face giving her a much young look, though she was the same age as the rest of the students.

It was at that, the doors opened, and the students moved, Victoire who'd not been paying too much attention was nudged forward by some more eager and focused students. She followed inside and noticed the four tables, just like the book had said. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw. Victoire had found it hard to place herself into the house system. She thought she could be in any. She knew that she'd been a bit badly placed in Slytherin, due to the fact she was the first of her family to be a witch. Victoire wanted to either be Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. She wanted to prove that she was smart, and she believed that because she was passionate and stubborn she'd make a good Gryffindor. Once the group stopped at the front of the room, the girl pushed through to stand right at the front. During this time, she pulled out the ribbon from her hair, realising that she should probably wait to see where she got placed to see if she could really wear it again. The professor in front of them motioned to a hat, who began singing. It moved, and was singing. Victoire could almost not believe her eyes. How could it do that? She was mesmerised by it. The girl wanted to know the how and why of that hat. She wondered why the voice sounded like it did, how it had gotten it's ability to tell where students had to go. Victoire was almost upset when the song was over, she wanted more. But, the sorting got underway. She was eager to be sorted, but was not so eager to have wanted to be the first, thankfully, with her name this was hardly the case. "Fontaine, Victoire" hearing her name in that sense made Victoire laugh. She knew there was a Fontaine de la Victoire in Paris. She wondered if that was a conscious effort by her parents, Victoire was not really french, but she was from the French speaking part of Belgium, and she spoke fluent french. The girl had the ribbon tightly in her hand, she sat on the stool, hoping that her thoughts weren't too focused on how amazing she thought magic and the hat was, so that the hat would be able to place her. With the hat finally placed on her head, Victoire Fontaine waited for the verdict.

Luca wasn't quite sure on whether he was ecstatic to be in Hogwarts New Zealand. Sure, it was finally time for him to get out of the house instead of being trapped there all his life with males such as his father and his three younger brothers whom was really getting on his nerve. At last, in his eleven years of living he would finally be able to be in one society with a girl. And don't get him wrong, it was not that girls avoided him, it was that he was just cooped up in their manor for everyday in his life. He felt miserable there really, a prisoner in his own home. And he was more excited to meet the girls in the castle more than learn anything within the wizarding school. It was the reality he had put up for himself ever since it came to his mind that he would be attending Hogwarts when he reached the age of eleven.

This almost random thoughts ran through the boy's mind as he entered the Great Hall along with the other first years. He can't say that he was extremely excited to be sorted immediately if it would mean that he would have the rest of his time with all the girls that would be in his class. He was quite eager to have classes started immediately. But first, he needed to be sorted. The young boy couldn't help but already have a small talk with the girls within the freshman group whilst the others were being sorted. Thankfully, though he had ample time talking with the ladies before his name was called. "Luca Gander," the woman said and the young boy grinned from ear to ear before heading to the stool and had the hat on his head. "Can I be in the house with tonnes of girls?" Luca grinned and asked the hat before finally shutting his mouth and waiting for the sorting hat's decision.

"You probably could be - but I find it strange that you measure girls by weight. How many girls in a tonne, would you say? No matter, you should find plenty of girls in any house - including SLYTHERIN!"

Esme stood uncomfortably with the large group of first years, eyes flicking over the strangers around her. As if being crowded by them wasn't enough, a lot of the older students were watching them all from their tables. She'd not yet had the time to introduce herself to anyone else, but she noticed a few other students had already become buddies on the train ride over to the school grounds. At the same time, she noticed plenty of others who were in the same position as herself, alone and nervous, probably the first time they'd been away from the comfort of home. Esme was aware herself that it would be a while before she'd see her parents again, but the feeling hadn't quite sunk in yet. Standing in the Great Hall felt a bit like a dream rather than reality, a day she knew would come but never felt she'd reach so suddenly. Her eyes moved skywards. Even the ceiling appeared dreamy, opening into a fake starlit sky that twinkled above, while candles hovered in mid air.

The young girl's attention snapped back to the ceremony as the Headmistress had started talking, welcoming them all to the school and explaining that the "Forbidden Forest" was restricted. That's really just asking for students to break the rules. Esme thought with a roll of her eyes. Forbidden indeed. There probably wasn't anything interesting in there anyway. She shrugged the thought off and resumed her attention to the Headmistress, who'd moved onto instructions about how Sorting worked. Esme wasn't too sure about how a hat could possibly be enough to decide on the future house of its new students, even with her experience of growing up in the magical world. She hadn't known what to expect, maybe some form of written test, or a powerful magic orb that they touched that would change colour and decide their house. None of the scenarios involved a hat. She jumped in surprise as the garment started to sing, cut from her thoughts while her mouth formed into a small "o", which conveyed an unspoken "Oh, it talks".

It wasn't long after that before names were called out and the other eleven year old children awkwardly walked up to the chair, in front of everyone, to have the hat placed on and shout out their house. Esme gritted her teeth, as the crowd slowly dispersed around her. She wasn't looking forward to being Sorted, having to sit in front of all those people and be judged. slowly she pushed toward the back of the group, feeling like she could escape the fate or pretend she wasn't there.
"Lancaster, Esme."

Oh. Oh no. Esme thought, silently rooted to the spot as she gazed to the front of the room. There was a short silence, a few students looking around expectantly for someone to start walking forward. Esme took a deep breath and willed herself to move. She took a step. Then another. She quickened her pace as she drew nearer. Now that the attention was on her and there was no turning back, she wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible. It felt like an age, but now the stool was at her feet and she moved to sit down, a warm fabric slowly closing in around her head. She shuddered.

"There's nothing to worry about - this is all quick and painless. We're all done now - you're a SLYTHERIN!"

After a while his name was called ''Haynes, Marcellus!''. His eyes opened wide, Marcel knew everyone was looking at him, this made him only more nervous. He looked at the three-legged chair, walked slowly to it and sat down. ''Please do it quickly, then we are done with that''. Marcellus closed his eyes and waited for the moment when the sorting hat started talking.

It was the big day, that Jane would go to hogwarts! It was a long trip from Engeland, but this was the right school she felt it. The letter that she get was so kind and good, her parents were proud. First Jane was a little bit confused, on this school were children who were grown up with magic, and parents who were witches and wizards. They had a lot of more experience, then here. It was also very scared to go to such a big school. Jane hoped that people would like her, and that she would make new friends. Jane was happy to be away from the bullies of her home. They were mean to her, other children saw weird things about Jane. And.. they were just that true, it was just a month ago that Jane found out that she was a witch. Her parents were also surprised, but so proud of Jane. And that was a good feeling for Jane, it gived her the confidence to go to hogwarts.

The train stopped and they were so close by hogwarts. Jane saw the great castle towers, and her mouth just falled open. It was the prettiest thing she ever saw. There were so many students, boys and girls who were walking on the courtyard to start there adventure on hogwarts. Jane walked into a great hall, it was just magic with all the candles flying in the air. A professor explained what was about to happen, and Jane listen very good to the professor. Now they were about to get sorted! Jane did not thought of it yet, she did not know much of the houses, so she asked a student next to here, what the houses were for. But on that moment she heard Anderson, Jane. She stept forwards, and the sorting hat was put on her head..

It was finally time! Rotem bounced excitedly on the balls of his feet, looking like a cheetah cub out hunting for the first time, ready to dash forward at the slightest provocation. Pushing back his curly brown hair from his eyes he watched as the massive doors of the great hall swung open to reveal four rows of tables, each one decked out in its house colors. Rushing forward, Rotem was one of the first new students to enter and his hazel eyes immediately found the ceiling. Twilight had just begun to descend and his gaze was filled with the light of the first star.

Walking to the head of the hall, Rotem stood where he was told, too excited for his usual impertinent questions and started to fidget while he waited for the sorting hat. Finally it was brought out and all of a sudden he was consumed with nervousness. What if he didn't like the house that raggedy old hat put him in? What if everyone in it hated him? What if...

He desperately wished Reggie was here. He would feel a lot calmer if he had his best friend, but his mom had made him leave the little Pygmy goat behind, there had been nothing on the acceptance letter that you could bring a goat as a pet! He would have to talk to someone about that as soon as he was sorted, maybe the head of the house could help him...

"Ledger, Rotem!" He jumped as his name was called and with a nervous, cocky smile ascended the steps. When he sat on the stool he could feel everyone's eyes on him and as his hands curled into white knuckled fists he gave them a saucy wink right before the musty hat covered his head and blocked the great hall from view.

Vincent wasn't all that nervous about being sorted. It didn't matter to him all that much what house he was to be sorted into as he had no preference to begin with. He knew a lot of his fellow first years were nervous about this. He was excited to be there and he couldn't wait to make new friends. He was going to miss his younger sister during the school year. He watched as the other students were sorted and then it was his turn. He made his way up to the front were the sorting hat was. He smiled as the hat was placed on his head and jut waited to find out what house he was going to be.

Lolly looked around the room excitedly after she saw Metis off to the Sorting Hat. Granddad had told her to keep an eye on Metis, and Metis was really nice, she was just really scared and things were hard for her, and Lolly didn't mind helping out at all, because they were friends and family all at once. Everything was so beautiful - the ceiling looked amazing, the students in their seats all looked so cool, and candles hung around the room by magic. Lolly was entranced! She couldn't wait to start her education here at Hogwarts! She was sad to leave her friends at school but it was okay, she knew, because she would hopefully make lots of nice friends here while learning about magic. She hoped she'd be any good at it, but she was sure she'd have fun anyway. Her hands grasped at the long sleeves of her robes as she rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet, waiting for her name to be called.

"Hyde, Laurel!"

Lolly looked up with an excited spark in her eyes, before practically bouncing up to the Sorting Hat and seating herself on the chair with a grin as the hat was placed on her head. I don't really know what these houses mean! I think Gryffindors are brave, and Ravenclaws are clever...what was the song again? Lolly's smile dropped a little - she was so forgetful at times. Oh well! A hat that can really talk, now that's amazing! I wonder what it'll say to me!
