Sorting Ceremony

The man strode through the big oak doors, and they silently shut behind him. The First Years began to quietly talk amongst themselves. Isabelle turned to her best friend, Holly. "One word - Wow. You ready for the sorting?" Holly said. "Yeah, I guess." replied Isabelle. Her stomach felt like it had been tied into a huge knot, a twisted ball of anxiety hevy in the pit of her stomach.. "I've been asking around, and I think I'd like to be in Gryffindor. I mean, they sound AWESOME." "I can see you in Gryffindor." said Isabelle, hoping that they could both be in it together. She really felt like it was the place for her, you know? " Remember the time when Jake called me a *****, and you went and slapped him so hard he fell off his desk? And when we were being told off by mrs O'brien for talking, and you put bugs into her glasses case? She though she had gone mad!" they chuckled in remembrance. Then the man came back into the room, said "Into a single file line please, then follow me. " they all lined up, Isabelle in front of Holly and behind some tall blond haired guy, and they all walked into the Great Hall. Isabelle's mouth fell open, and her eyes widened. They reached the front and stood in front of an ragged old hat sitting ontop of a three legged stool. The man started calling out names, and people began being sorted. "Balme, Ellie was the first. Before long Isabelle's name was called out. She slowly climbed the steps, heart pounding wildly, feeling like it was about to burst out of her chest. Thoughts ran through her mind, a gazillion a second, racing too fast to grasp onto. She sat on the stool, perching nervously as the Hall gazed upon her. Her hands started to sweat even more, and she swallowed thickly. One thought ran through her mind. Gryffindor. Please be Gryffindor. The hat was lowered onto her head, and she was swallowed into the darkness.

"Gryffindor, hmm? Well, you could do well there - but your desire to leave your mark on the world would seem to suggest Slytherin has something great to offer you. Yes, I know - you've got those stereotypes lodged in your head but really and truly, you'll do amazingly there. Alright, that's it. Certainly a SLYTHERIN!"

Manami sat on the floor in front of the massive closed doors of the great hall, focussing her nervous energy into a sketch of great wooden doors that would lead her into her future. Small for her age, Nami looked at least a year younger than any of her class mates and was easily lost among the mass of black robes. Squinting at the doors, Nami pushed back her hair and added another detail to the sketch. Her hair was cropped at chin length and was a rich ebony save for a streak of gold on the left side of her face. Twirling that streak, she bit her lower lip and began painstakingly shading. Her streak was caused by a potion that she drank when she was just three years old. Her mother had developed it to help cure hiccups and Nami managed to drink a whole bottle of it while her mother's back was turned. Fortunately there were no negative side affects, but it did cause a streak of her hair to turn a burnished gold that stubbornly refuses to come out.

Just as she was about to finish her sketch the great doors opened and inhaled a great breath as if trying to pull the new first years into the light beyond. Scrambling to her feet, Nami's dark brown eyes went wide as she viewed the splendor before her. Enchanted candles hung in the air to brighten the room and wash everyone's faces in a golden glow while stars twinkled overhead in the enchanted ceiling. Awed at the beauty of the room, Nami at first failed to realize how many people where in the room before her and soon became very nervous.

Tucking her sketchbook and pencil into the sleeve pocket she had sewn into all her robes, Nami took a deep breath and walked unsteadily into the hall. Her pale cheeks flushed red as she passed a sixth year and she hurried to put herself in the middle of the flow of first years, hiding in the comforting mass of flowing robes. Finally she reached the top of the hall and she watched as the sorting hat was brought out. That musty old thing was going to determine her house? How could a hat possibly know where she would fit the best? Her apprehension ebbed when it started singing and turned into amazement, maybe it did know what it was doing.

Then came the unending list of names. They where called by last name and Nami soon came to realize that she would be one of the last to go... Hopefully someone's last name started with Z so she at least wouldn't be dead last. One by one, her protective mass of robes mounted the steps and were sorted, soon there were only a few stragglers. Finally she heard what she had been waiting for: "Sona, Manami!"

In her rush to mount the steps, Nami tripped on her robes and almost fell before regaining her balance and blushing furiously when she heard a snicker. Ascending the stairs more slowly she slid onto the stool and squeezed her eyes shut to block out the sight of the many faces staring at her. When she opened them again she was staring at the inside of the worn hat that would tell her where she belonged.

"Let's see how you do in RAVENCLAW!"

Catterina, for the first time in a long time, stopped smiling. Her name had been called... The name Catterina Demos, had been called to go up to the sorting hat. It was almost unbelievable. Kitty stopped breathing and had big eyes. After an unfortunate amount of time passed she realized she should be moving toward that hat. She exhaled, clenched her fists and started to walk. With each step she grew more confident, less then half way to the stool she smiled, remebering why she came, why she was so happy to be here, why she cried when she left her mother. Kitty was ready to become a witch, and there was no backing down.

Rhys entered the Great Hall, not knowing what to expect. He had no idea what to expect as he had been waiting with the other students. His brother hadnt attended Hogwarts, and being a muggle born, he hadnt had any friends that were magical. He scanned the nervous faces of the other students, and shrugged. He didnt really care much for any of them. He was here to make something of himself, and stop living in his brother shadow. And that is what he intended on doing. The doors to the Great Hall opened and he walked through with pride in his step. He was here, and finally away from his mother. Now he just had to meet the right people and make something of himself. He stood at the front of the group, and listened to the man infront of them talk. His eyes were trained on the sorting hat. He wanted this to be over already. He wanted to be accepted. He wanted to excel. "Graves, Rhys" the man in front of him called, and with a deep breath, he approached the stood and put it on. 'Here we go.' he thought confidently to himself.

Lucy walked up to the front of the Great Hall, feeling everyone's eyes watching her and the rest of the unsorted students. She was nervous, but excited at the same time, endorphins rushing through her veins, make her slightly dizzy. She smiled brightly at the girl with the green-tinged face next to her. She looked behind her at all the houses, and quickly found Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. While attempting to socialize with other First Years, she had found out a lot about the houses. Ravenclaw seemed cool - they were more open-minded than the other houses, and wouldn't mind her weirdness that much. But, on the other hand, Gryffindor. She heard that that was the house of pranksters, and that would be FUN!! plus, you didn't necessarily have to follow all the rules - something that often annoyed Lucy.

"Lucy Holloway." called out the professor at the front. Lucy raised her head, and walked out to the hat. she sat on the stool her stomach twisting and turning. As the hat was lowered onto her head, covering her in darkness, she made her decision. Gryffindor, she thought confidently, I think that's what I want. I don't know. I just want to be accepted for who I am.

"You got it! GRYFFINDOR!"

Marcus King stands in line with other students and looks over the hall briefly, attempting not to make eye contact with the present students. He knows that this is the biggest moment of his wizarding career and he can't screw it up. Why did he have to leave home? Why couldn't his father love him enough to keep him? Why is he here? But no matter. His heart pounds as the group stops in front of the teacher with a long piece of paper in his/her hands. He/She reads each name out - one by one. Marc, second to last, is called up. Sweating, heart races, blood pumping, mind exhausted. He could pass out. But no, he won't. He steps up, just as the others did, and allows the hat to be placed on his head. He swallows hard as he sees the long tables full of food but, more importantly, full of students. Full of students that terrified him but he didn't want to show it. He tried to keep his cool and just focus on the hat that was being placed upon his head.

Seth entered the great hall, his eyes darting left and right as he looked at the numerous amount of people gathered. He had never really liked being the center of attention, and suddenly all eyes were on him. He hated it. He watched as the professor on the raised platform in front of the group he followed started addressing them, calling names. Seth watched as one by one the group was slowly sorted into their houses. Finally, his name was called and he stepped up to the raised platform. Staring at the sorting hat before he took his seat, he felt butterflies in his stomach. 'Please be Gryffindor. Please' he thought to himself as the hat was placed on his head.

"I'm sorry, Gryffindor just isn't right for you - I think you'll find it far more agreeable in HUFFLEPUFF!"

Daniel would be sitting, quietly in his spot, eyeing the people around him. Patiently waiting, he looks at each of the students going to the hat, and get their future set by a talking hat. He would be calm, but would keep a wide grin from ear to ear on his face. After a bit of waiting, he'd get a little nervous, fearing that the hat will place him in the wrong house

When the time finally comes, Daniel stands up, walking over to the chair. He sits down, as they place the hat on his head. He closes his eyes for a second, and slows down his breathing, awaiting for the hats decision.

It better be Slytherin, hat..

"Better be, huh? You should have checked with others to see how I felt about children thinking they could do my job for me. Hopefully you'll learn a thing or two over in HUFFLEPUFF!"

As the bold, heavy wooden doors to the great hall swung open, Arthur, and indeed plenty of the other new first years, felt suddenly weak at the knees. If he had thought the outside of the castle had been impressive, then the great hall was amazing! All eyes were focused on the unsorted students as they were bustled towards the front of the hall. Some of the students needed a nudge to remind them to stop staring at the incredible room and get moving. Arthur returned the smiles of the eager students lined up at the tables, which stretched proudly down the stunning hall. He could hardly believe his eyes, or, for that matter, his luck. Only a few months ago, Arthur had been a regular child. Well, as regular as a wizard who didn't know his ability could be. After all, strange things had certainly happened to him throughout his childhood. And now, he was stood by what was introduced as the Sorting Hat, staring at the faces of those who would perhaps be his future mentors.

It wasn't too long before Arthur's name was called. With slightly trembling legs, he took a deep breath and sat down on the wooden stool. The hat was placed over his head, and the last thing he could remember before it spoke was how fast his heart was hammering in his chest.

"No doubt you're a GRYFFINDOR!"

Ariana had been shocked when she had gotten her Hogwarts letter. She didn't particularly like surprises but she was coming to terms with the fact magic was real and she was a witch. The small Russian girl looked around everything curiously. She had been intrigued about finding out what house she would end up in. Not having grown up around magic and not knowing about the different houses, it didn't really bother her where she ended up. She watched as other students were called and had a tatty old hat placed on their heads which would call out the student's house to the hall. She waited patiently for her turn. "Romanov, Ariana" was called and she made her way to the stool. She felt all eyes on her as the hat was placed on her head.

Lucretia stepped swiftly into the great hall, flattening down her new robes and running a hand through her messy hair. She could feel the eyes of the other students boring into her back, but Lucretia kept a straight face, a subtle hint of a frown forming as she made her way to the front of the hall with the rest of the unsorted students. Her mouth was beginning to feel a little dry, though this was somewhat to do with that fact she hadn't opened her mouth since she'd left home. What was the point in befriending the other students anyway? They were only going to back stab her later on. Everybody did.

As her name was called, Lucretia silently stepped towards the stool and sat down, staring at the crowd like it was a contest. The hat was quickly placed over her head, and the nerves kicked in. Lucretia had no idea where she would be put. All she knew was that if she ended up in Hufflepuff, her life would be over. Don't be so silly, she told herself firmly. You don't belong there, the sorting hat wouldn't do that to you. Lucretia inhaled deeply and held her breath, waiting for the sorting hat's verdict.

So this was it, this was the castle her dad had told her about in his stories. Alexa looked up and inspected the outside of the castle while she and the other First Year's walked up the path leading to it. To be honest it didn't look as impressive as she thought it would be. It was just a big old castle. Nothing magical about that. This is where she was going to spend seven years of her life?

Once they had reached the castle and walked through the giant front doors Alexa's views changed in less than a second. From the inside the castle was even bigger than expected and the walls were covered with paintings, moving paintings. There wasn't much time for her to look around, because they were almost immediately guided into the Great Hall. The hall was enormous and Alexa now understood why her dad always told her that the Great Hall was one of the places he had found the most magical about the castle. The First Year's gathered around in fron of the hall, while being looked at by all the older students. In front of the stood a three-legged stool with a hat on top of it and next to it stood a woman who started to call them by their names. Alexa had already seen a bunch of kids going up there and claiming their place in one of the four houses, but now it was her turn. "Rhowen, Alexa." The woman said and Alexa confidently walked up to the stool, taking her place on top of it. She felt the hat be placed upon her head and looked around the hall, waiting for the hat to make its decision.
