Open Learn How To Duel - SDA Event

Vikram had decided it would be a good idea to sign up for the duelling club. He'd lost track of time and quickly made his way to the meeting- he was one of the last ones there, but thankfully he'd made it in time for the leader to speak. He nodded along. Pleased that he could practice a bit, he decided to spend some time just watching the others first instead. He took out a notebook, found a good place to sit, and sat down. He scribbled a few things down, looking around and just observing the others- their stances, the spells they used, how well it worked. He was content, enjoying it.

Eoghan listened as Tori filled him in on the details of what he'd missed, grateful that he had someone at least that he could ask. It was annoying that as first years they could do so little, but maybe practicing their balance and their stance would make things easier for them once they came to finally learn how to cast proper spells. "Yes," the blond nodded, keen to at least make the most of the journey from the highest point of the castle all the way to the bottom, and took his wand out of his pocket so that he could at least pretend he was ready. He'd read a little about the best way to hold a position for a duel, but since Tori was the one who was just practicing for herself, and heard what the leader had told her, he found himself following her lead instead. "Show me what you know," he asked her, happy to copy whatever movements she did. Perhaps between them, they could make sure they both were ready for the real duels once they began.

[Josephine Arora]

Being summoned by a ghost was a new experience for Josephine. She wasn't sur eif she should take it seriously, but seemed like the Hufflepuff ghost was really concerned about the SDA event. So when Josephine stepped into the meeting room, she was half expecting to find several children lying unconscious on the ground. That was not the case. She cleared her throat. "I heard I was needed here?"

There were advantages to being a ghost. Like floating through walls and falls. It had been easy to go up to the Hospital Wing and talk to the nurse present and ask her to go to where the children were. It had been harder to float along at her pace, however. "Practicing violence means the need for medics. Especially for children," he told the nurse after escorting her. The world wasn't at war, there was no reason for children to fight, and yet here they were. And adults couldn't even be bothered to watch children. Such foolishness. He floated out of the duelling chamber, satisfied that there would now be adequate supervision.

savannah spotted the nurse and rolled her eyes. She saw the ghost a moment after, "Sorry," she said to June before moving towards the nurse and ghost. The ghost left and she couldn't help but be glad that it did. She didn't want to have to deal with that at all. She walked over to the nurse. "Hi, sorry the ghost disturbed you, we aren't really in need of anyone, they're just practicing on dummies, it's fine," Savannah assured the woman.

[Lumos Walden-Cade]

Lumos looked over his shoulder to see the girl from the park, what was her name? Sarah? Sally? Something kind of common and old-time, like Sheila. "Oh yeah, like this?" He asked holding it up a bit higher. He wasn't sure what kind of qualifications she had to make such an assessment, but for all he knew she could be a champion dueller, or at least the child of one. After all, his dad was an Auror, so was his mum. If she wanted to improve his form, which he was fine with if it made her feel as though she was somewhat superior to him, she could be his guest, he could always go and ask his father about his duelling form anyway, and he probably would once this was over, it's not that he didn't trust the leader, Savannah, but his father had real world experience, which kind of qualified him more, he thought. "How's this?"

Tori nodded to Eoghan, taking up a position next to him and aiming her wand at the dummies. "We're not really practicing spells at the moment, mostly because we don't know any yet that would be even remotely helpful," she said, moving her wand in different directions, as though she might have been fencing. She didn't think it would be a problem, as she was making no spell movements that she was specifically aware of and she certainly wasn't saying any spells, but she kept her wand specifically trained on the dummy and not pointed at anyone else just on the off chance her wand decided to develop a mind of it's own in the next several minutes. "You kind of want to keep yourself at a balance, because shields aren't the only way to protect yourself," she said, remembering what her dad and Uncle Lani had said to her once, sometimes the best offence was to run. "If you need to get out of the way quickly, you want to be half way into your movement," she said, bouncing slightly on her knees and jumping away from Eoghan to demonstrate what she meant.
