HNZ Birthday Werewolf 🐺

Welcome to a twist for the Birthday Werewolf!

If you are not going to be active on the board during the play, don't sign up. We need people to talk!

This is the forum variation of the game "Werewolf"/"Mafia".

The Story:
It is a small town of Obsidian Harbour, close to New Zealand. The townsfolk are enjoying the time while their children and relatives are at Hogwarts New Zealand. Everything seems to be going well until they find a mysterious ring near the pier. It was an Ouroboros ring. There was a new threat looming.

The next day, cloaked people stood in the square, making their presence known. The Scitorari have descended, and they seek to rid all the good doers of Obsidian Harbour!

Team Ministry: You will need to find and lynch the Scitorari members, and survive!
Team Scitorari: You need to kill all the ministry folk without getting caught.

How to play:
  • Sign-ups will begin immediately and close in a week - 5/5/25. Once closed, PM's will be sent out to each player with their roles and/or instructions if required.
  • The game will begin on 5/6/25 with the night phase. During the night, no one must talk in the forum. The ministry folk will be sleeping. Anyone with night roles, you will need to PM me with your action - if you so choose to.
  • When the sun raises, I will reveal the outcome from the previous night, and all players can discuss who they believe the Scitorari members are. You should decide between yourselves on who to lynch. Dead players cannot talk. You can lie and deceive all you wish, but you absolutely cannot share your PM with your role to any player.

And now, the roles!
  • Scitorari- You are the enemy. Each night, you may choose one person to visit and kill. If/when you are killed/lynched, your role will show up as a Scitorari member.
    • Additional Scitorari - First is at 11 players, second at 17, third at 23
  • Ministry Officials - You do not have any special powers, but your role is very important. Lynch the Scitorari, and survive!
  • Seer - Once per night, you may look into your crystal ball, and see the role of one person
  • Faux Seer - You think you are a seer, but your use of tarot cards and scrying leave you with uncertain answers. Once per night, you may draw the cards and see a role of one person, but the roles are random. They may or may not be correct. Upon death, you will show up as the seer. You will not know you are a faux seer until the end of the game.
  • Healer - At night, you may visit a player to heal them if a Scitorari attacks them. You may also protect yourself once per game. If you try to heal a Scitorari member, you will die.
    • Additional Healer - Second at 15
  • Minister of Magic - You lead the ministry officials. Your vote to lynch off players will count as 2 votes.
  • Azkaban Guard - Once per night, you can block a player from using their night action.
  • Ghost - You will not know that you are a ghost until you are lynched/killed. Your role will be tole that you are a ministry official. However, once you are lynched/killed, you can choose to take someone down with you for revenge the following night.
  • Curse Caster (at 12 players) - Once per night, you may visit a player and cast a spell to take their voice away. Your target will only be able to communicate with GIFs, except with choosing a name to lynch.
  • Auror (at 14 players) - You cannot be killed by the Scitorari at night.
  • Hit Wizard (at 16 players) - Once per game, you can choose a player to strike down who you believe is a Scitorari member.
Additional Notes:
  • During the day phase, bold your votes. If you are changing your vote, be sure to put that in there as well.
  • The game is OOC, so one account per person. Use it during the whole game, so it might be best to use your main account.
  • If there is a tie with the lynching votes, the death will be settled with RNG.
  • Since we have a lot of time zones, each phase will last 24 hours. This should give everyone ample time to plot, discuss, murder, lie, etc.
  • All game discussion will need to be in the thread, or via PM with the Scitorari members. Do not communicate outside the thread!

May the best team win!

Special thanks goes to ElementalAlchemist from IF/ZB Support, who showed us that this game could be played on a forum, has worked out a good number of kinks in it, gave us the code to generate game roles and (most graciously) let us copy his summary of a number of the game roles from his post in previous games verbatim. Thank you!

Ooof what an unfortunate series of events :) I guess the bright side is narrowing down one of the special ability roles.

Aah D:

So assuming for a second that Adorah healed someone and it wasn’t the hit wizard (because it’d be somewhat hasty to use your ability night one), who do you guys think she’d have picked to heal? Who would she think the Scits might target first?

Oh that's rough. If the healer died protecting a scit on the first night that is very unfortunate.

@Freddie Lagowski It couldn't have been hit wizard as we dont have enough players. Im pretty sure the only way Adorah died was by trying to heal a scit šŸ‘€

Also zazz has definitely been hit by the curse caster =))

My bad HAHA that’s what I get for posting as soon as I wake up =))
Yeah I guess that has to be what happened

Omg TWO DEAD ALREADY?!? So from what I am gathering is we hace two scits?…….. and a dead healer? x_x

Wow. A rough start. Two dead including the healer.
My first thought would be not who the scits targeted. But who Kirsten would have picked to protect first.

Hmmm… Yeah I was thinking maybe she’d protect a friend, but also what about someone who’s typically really active in games and therefore likely to get killed off early? That’s who I would personally pick. A successful night 1 heal would be a big advantage

(@Zennon Baros just to confirm, did you suggest those because they’re Kiersten’s friends?)

I'm assuming the Curse Caster can target a Scit? :r

Oof that's not a good start.

I'm assuming the Curse Caster can target a Scit? :r
I'm pretty sure they can target anyone haha.

Zazz your use of profile gifs is very ingenious, though I am curious why those 3, but I can't ask you that because gifs xD

Mia's idea of trying to think who Kiersten would protect is interesting, but there's also a chance she just picked randomly or something.

Lol, staff is what Zazz is prolly pointing at cause that’s Cyndi, me, and Verity =))

Oh, duh.

Object permanence of a small baby if I don't see the av I associate with the purple color I forget you're staff

Oh, duh.

Object permanence of a small baby if I don't see the av I associate with the purple color I forget you're staff

Hahaha I completely overlooked this also!!

I assumed Zazz picked them because they were staff. But I don't know if I would assume Kiersten would go to saving staff first. Not sure if I see the motivation there. But I also guess we all have to start somewhere trying to reason this out.

Yeah I was thinking maybe she’d protect a friend
I was thinking this too and then I realized that at night I trust Zazz about as far as I could throw her and then I realized that’s also probably why I would go with her too on Night 1 as a Healer and then I’ve just thrown myself around in circles. =))

Like I’d wanna know I can trust the person I know the most? And then get violently killed very sad

Like I’d wanna know I can trust the person I know the most? And then get violently killed very sad

Hmmmm this is a very good point
I’d probably be torn between choosing who I actually thought would get targeted, and someone I want to be able to trust for the rest of the game

Yeah it's tough to say how Kiersten would've gone because it was night 1 and she didn't have anything to go on so she could've chosen at random, chosen someone she's more familiar with, or chosen someone she thought has been historically a helpful player. All we can tell is that she made the wrong choice with who she picked. :(

Baah, I'm usually in favour of voting for someone day 1, even without much of a lead, as it can provide more evidence later on

It's gonna be night soon I think :(
Just thinking hmm

If I cast a vote now, and I'm the only person to vote before the night phase, then it's likely to be a wasted death because:

A. We won't have any kind of voting pattern to analyse and won't learn anything
and
B. I'm statistically unlikely to land on a scit

So I think I will wait, unless anyone else is around and thinking of voting also

I missed a big chunk of the chat bc i was out most of the day BUT ok so this being my first time playing this on HNZ and third time ever online xD I am a bit lost any which way but all I can tell is we don’t have much to go on for now voting wise? But also if theres two scits and they keep killing peeps both we are gonna go extinct soon enough but if we start voting people out and non scits die we go extinct anyways D:

We don't have much to go on, this is true!! But it's still useful to vote

Let's say you happen to vote for a Scit today, and I create a tie. Then later on in the game, the Scit dies. I would look suspicious for creating that tie on day 1 because it would look like I was trying to save them. That might end up being useful evidence and that's how day 1 voting can become useful

But if I was the only person to cast a vote, it would be a total waste - I'd probably kill off an innocent person and there's nothing to learn by looking back on it =))

I don’t think voting on Day 1 is ever a waste especially now since as little as it was we did have a discussion even though there wasn’t much to go on.

Oh yeah, it's not a waste, but there was nobody viewing this thread when I wrote that, and it's about to turn into the night phase so I wasn't gonna cast out a single vote

I would statistically have landed on someone innocent and nobody would've learned anything useful from it

But I'm happy to vote now, just thinking who - I might go for someone quiet
