Professor Misha Haden had been a bit surprised to be asked to help out, he didn't often, but he didn't mind it. Though of course he was feeling a little more tired than usual with the boys keeping him awake. It was nice though, they were adorable. He looked at the two students whose duel he was overseeing. "Let's keep this clean," he said, before inviting them to get started.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Tori had signed up for duelling because she was intrigued about how it was all going to work. She'd been annoyed last year they weren't able to participate, but she'd also kind of got it. She faced Sybil across the chamber, she didn't know her well, but they had several classes together. She flicked her wand nervously by her side before deciding on her first move. "Stupefy".

Sybil couldn't tell if she was more nervous or excited for the duelling tournament to finally roll around. She had done well casting spells in class but she knew it would be a lot harder when she had to be quick on her feet. She smiled to Tori from her side of the duelling platform and bowed. "Good luck!" she stammered before the other girl managed to cast her spell first. With a small gasp Sybil felt her arm move reflexively as she cast a shield charm just in time. She tried to be quick as she waved her wand again to test her luck with a trip jinx.

Honestly Tori was quite impressed. She wasn't sure what duelling would be like, but she hoped she'd get good enough to win or to at least get a good appreciation of it. "Thanks, you too!" She called back as she quickly deflected a trip jinx just barely. Whew, this was harder work than she had given the older students credit for. Her mind raced as she tried to think of another spell, taking a moment and hoping that Sybil would allow her that moment before she quickly came on another spell, "Expelliarmus!"

Sybil felt like her body was so tense she could snap in two if she wasn't careful. She watched as Tori closely as she blocked her spell and she was able to time it just right to shield the disarming spell she sent back. During the pause the other girl took Sybil was able to have her next spell read to go. "Petrificus Totalus!" she cast quickly.

Some of the older students, and the professors, had moved so fast and knew exactly what spells to use, Tori wondered if they would learn how to think that fast. For now, she focused on her opponent, on Sybil, because thinking of her as an opponent didn't feel right. She was learning, she wasn't trying to undermine the other girl. She appreciated having been given time to think of her next spell though and resolved that she would also give Sybil the time if she needed it. They were both new to this after all. "Protego! Locomotor mortis!"

Sybil's mind was racing trying to focus on her footing, as well as the grip on her wand. Not to mention watching the other girl to try and see what she would do next. But in her overthinking she got ahead of herself. Tori took a moment to think and by the time she sent back her next spell Sybil's mouth couldn't decided if it wanted to say the incantation of the shield charm or her next spell. At least she was fast enough to dodge out of the way. Rattled, but still quick she righted herself and cast her next spell. "Expelliarmus!"

She dodged out of the way instead of blocking with the shield charm, did that mean she was thrown off somehow? Tori didn't want to assume, but she tried to press her advantage by repeating the combo, "Protego, Locomotor Mortis" less time for her to have to think as she'd already used the spell before.

Given that Tori had been the person that had first gotten Eoghan confident about dueling, there was no way he was going to miss her performance. He'd chosen a space in the crowd close to the Gryffindor, watching her stance eagerly as she moved between spells, and he was making a mental note of the things she'd told him to watch out for. It was different, to see things in action instead of just theory. Eoghan stayed quietly at his spot, not wanting to distract her but hoping that she was about to win against the Slytherin.​

Sybil could feel her heartbeat pounding in her head. That last move had been close but she clenched her jaw not wanting to let herself panic. She was able to cast a shield charm in time and pushed past her fear and cast another spell, keeping it simple with a stunning spell. "Stupefy!"

Tori shielded from the stunning spell, managing to throw Eoghan a grin as she shifted her feet again to put herself in to a better position to defend, before deciding she needed to be a little more aggressive and maybe she can trip Sybil up with Jelly legs Jinx.

Ruth was doing her best to check out other duels around her own, and didn't want to miss Sybil's. She wanted to cheer her friend on, but looking at her concentrating Ruth was cautious that she didn't want to throw her off. She quietly waved her green ribbons, willing Sybil to victory.

Sybil tried not to think about all the people watching them even if she was pretty sure she had some friends in the crowd. She could thank them later, for now she had to stay focused. At any moment one of them could slip up and she was determined to prove herself. Sybil watched closely as Tori shifted her weight before sending back a spell and she cast another shield charm just in time. "Locomotor Mortis!" she sent back quickly.

Tori was definitely enjoying this, and she was determined that she would learn enough here to make whatever she did next count. Since she was going to take half a semester off next year, and maybe she could learn some duelling in Durmstrang, come back and be all the better for it. She shifted her wait again, blocking Sybil's spell before hitting back with a simple "Expelliarmus."

Sybil was getting tired but she just knew if she pushed a bit harder she might be able to win. She took a quick deep breath and planted her feet as she cast another shield spell. She tried to keep her movements smooth as she changed her stance ever so slightly before sending off her next spell. "Stupefy!"

Tori was also getting tired, but she was determined to take out this win, mostly she thought it would be really fun to have a duel with Eoghan or Lili, any of her friends, Jasper would have been fun too. The only way she could do that was if she won this round. She was beginning to really like Sybil, appreciating her drive, similar to her own, she thought. She shielded against her next spell, taking a deep breath. She felt like it was getting a little warm up here now. Of course, it was Summer. "Tarantallegra!"

Sybil was starting to think she was maybe getting the hang of this whole dueling thing. The back and forth had a rhythm to it that she was starting to figure out. Tori cast another spell at her and she was able to cast a shield charm to block it before taking a beat before sending one back. "Petrificus Totalus!"

Tori wiped her brow to get the sweat away before managing to block Sybil's next spell, her slight moment of waiting giving her the opportunity to do it. She respected Sybil a lot for this duel and she was learning a from her, she hoped that Sybil too was learning something from her, that was what duels were for, wasn't it? To learn something? She cast the Antler Jinx in response.

Sybil tightened the grip on her wand as she cast another shield charm. An antler jinx wasn't the worst thing to be hit by. At least it wasn't a slug vomiting curse. But Tori had been matching her every step of the way and she didn't want any distractions if she could help it. Just as quick as she cast her shield she sent back a knee reversing hex.

Was this what every duel was like? She was learning a lot sure, but she was also getting a little tired. Having to think of do many spells was killing her. She shielded from the next spell, knee reversing hex, nasty, and quickly countered with the Slug vomiting curse. Ew.

As Sybil heard the slug vomiting spell being cast she was extra ready and cast a shield charm quickly. She felt a rush of relief to be spared that fate before sending back another spell. "Rictusempra!"

The duel was still dragging on, it was hard to concentrate so hard on these spells when her head was throbbing. She almost missed the next spell, but she managed to block it just as it came at her before trying to stun Sybil with "Stupefy!"

Sybil could feel herself breaking a sweat but she didn't have time to think about much with a spell coming at her. She cast a shield charm and sent back another. "Expelliarmus!" She hoped she'd get a nice long break when this was through.

Tori could almost see an end to this whole thing, it had to be over soon, right? She wasn't sure she could handle it going on for much longer, it had already gone longer than she would have thought that it would. She quickly blocked Sybil's spell, before copying her lead and sending back with "Expelliarmus." Surely the duel would be over soon, she was so tired.
