Kahurangi was regretting her decision not to sign up for duels this year as she entered the chamber to proctor, but she'd twinged her shoulder at rugby a couple of weeks ago, and wasn't really feeling up to straining it more, just in case. This duel in particular was a bit of a bummer to proctor - her victory against James a couple of years ago was still the proudest moment of her dueling career. She took her place on the platform and glanced between the two opponents facing off, pleased that if nothing else she'd get to watch some hopefully spectacular duels this year. "Alright, nice clean fight from both of you, please. On my mark." She stepped back, unable to help a smile as the duelists prepared. "Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

James had been pretty disappointed not to win the last time he took part in a duelling tournament so he was hoping for better luck this time around. He met his opponent, the new muggle studies professor and a friend of Geo, small world, and bowed to him before taking his position. "Stupefy,"

Killian was looking forward to his duel, he hadn't dueled since his school days really so it was exciting to get back into that. He bowed to James who happened to be his very good friends husband, he had half a mind to just go easy on the man. After all he had it rough with so many kids running around and another on the way, but then again he wasn't looking to lose. Before Killian could think much James was already flinging spells at him. "Protego!" He cast quickly giving a smile to the man. "You gotta try harder than that Cade," He chuckled before sending a spell of his own in return. "Petrificus Totalus!"

James raised his wand to cast a shielding charm which he could do almost instinctively. "Plenty more where that came from Fox," He turned his wand back on the other man and cast Incarcerous at him.

Killian shook his head with a smile at the fast shield his opponent threw up, of course he would. He was a DADA Professor and a former Auror so would of been sad if he could barely shiel himself. Throwing up one of his own he sent another his way. "Obscuro!"

James flicked his wrist to cast an effortless shielding charm and a moment passed as he tried to think of his next spell. He was out of practice with duelling and even then most of his experience had been life or death, not sport. James pointed his wand at the stage below Killian's feet and cast, "Expulso,"

Tori had only come to see Mr. Cade fight, but she was a little tiny bit impressed by his opponent, whom she didn't know well. She watched the pair of them, leaning over the barrier attentively to see how it would play out. She'd put her galleons on James, because he was a former Auror and a Defence professor, but apparently this Professor Fox she'd been hearing about kind of knew his way around a wand too. "Go Professor Cade!"​

Killian shielded himself making a light tsk sound. "Shame, I was beginning to like you Cade and then you go trying to blow it all up." He shook his head with a lazy smile thinking on what spell to do next. Merlin it had been a bit since he had done anything like this, you didn't exactly cast these kinds of spells around your toddler. Eventually Killian settled to casting the Jelly Brain Jinx. After which he glanced at the girl supporting her seemingly head of house if her robes were anything to go by. Giving her a small smile he focused back on the duel.

"Just trying to keep you on your toes Fox," James laughed, blocking his jinx with ease and turning his wand back against his opponent and casting a trip jinx.

Killian smiled at the comment. "Oh my toddler does that enough but I appreciate you making sure I don't get too comfortable either," the professor threw back before shielding himself from the incoming Jinx. "See I am starting to understand why Geo married you, you aren't half that bad, but then again I suppose I too have a thing for Gryffindors," The mention of his own Gryffindor continents away now brought a smile as he sent his next spell. "Confundo!"

For a second Killian forgot they were in a duel and threw his head back with a laugh, he was soon reminded of the situation he was in when he found himself dangling by his ankle. Had he not been already gripping his wand for dear life the stick might have fallen off in the process, with his wand still in hand he quickly countered it with a quick "Liberacorpus!" He fell down with an oomph, still holding onto his wand for dear life before getting up with a shake of his head. "Good one James, though inconvenient hardly enough to take me out." He said with a shake of his head.

For a moment, James thought he had won when Killian was hoisted into the air by his ankle but rather annoyingly he kept hold of his wand and after a moment cast the counter curse to get himself up right. "Just stay down man you're embarrassing yourself," He raised his wand to cast another spell. "Everte Statum,"

Killian tilted his head amused by the assumption that taking a hit would embarrass him. "Nah see, I have nothing to prove here nor am I one to get embarrassed too easily so I'll be fine," He said while blocking the spell. "Though I appreciate the concern," he added before casting a stunning spell.

James blocked Killian's stunning spell with a lazy flick of his wand, he knew it made him look arrogant, but he was so it worked. "Who said I was concerned?" James laughed. "Expelliarmus,"

Killian chuckled blocking the spell, this man was far too cocky for his own good. "Could have fooled me, Cade." He said with an easy shake of his head before sending an instant Scalping hex the other mans way. That should humble him enough if it hit.

James didn't expect the scalping charm and it caught him off guard enough for it to hit him, the spell didn't hurt but he saw hair falling to the floor of the platform. "Dude! What the f**k?" His hair, his facial hair, it was all gone, his head was as smooth as a baby's backside. "Reducto," He cast the spell aiming it at the stage under his feet.

Killian chuckled as the hair fell from his opponent and he cursed. Casting a shield the Professor shook his head. "Now now James, let's not curse." The only reason Ten was watching the duel between Professor Cade and the new Muggle Studies professor, was because one of these men was the dad of one of her closest friends. Ten had never really seen James as the Head of her House, primarily because she'd been friends with Veronica before her dad had taken over from Professor Kingsley, so now the Gryffindor just saw him as an extra addition. Besides if she was going to go to any Professor for advice it would be have been Professor Carter. That being said, the closer she was getting with Veronica, the more aware she was that she should probably start making more of an effort to know what her family were like.

The fifth year slapped both hands over her mouth when Professor Fox stripped Veronica's dad of all his hair, her eyes wide as she tried to stop the spluttering laugh that was threatening to shoot out her mouth. "What the f***," she said out loud after a moment, copying the man's expression. Professor Cade was never going to live this down, especially given he was supposed to be the best at defense. ​

James tried to ignore the growing voices around the platform as they started to attract an audience, one of the professors losing their hair would do that. James just grumbled in response to Killian's latest remark blocked his spell and cast, "Petrificus Totalus,"
