Irene Finch had specifically asked for the tables to be left in place for the exam. If the sixth years were going to be licensed, then they would need to possess the ability to work with their surroundings. Apparating across an empty room was convenient for beginners to practice, but the chances of apparating to a truly empty space were going to be slim to none in the real world. There'd be tree filled forests, garbage strewn alleys, and perhaps, when they were lucky, the occasional field or valley. This would be an especially important test for those students who were interested in careers in the Ministry as apparating was a requirement for many of the positions. It was an important skill, allowing independence of movement.

Irene arrived at the castle just in time to greet the students who were waiting just outside the Great Hall. The students were seated on the benches that had been provided to await their turn. "Good afternoon" she greeted, her icy blue eyes taking them in one by one. "In a moment, I'll begin calling you in alphabetically by your last name. Once I do, I'll ask you to apparate to a spot in the room. You will only get one shot. I will not pass you if even a hair, button, or shoelace remains where you once stood." Irene's gaze drifted by several students. Irene let them sit with that for a moment, wanting it to be clear because she hated the annoying begging for another chance that came when a student failed. She looked at their faces, wondering which ones she would be seeing in the courses that were provided by the Ministry throughout the year. Many people failed the exam on their first try, but the woman did nothing to reassure the students of this fact.

Stepping back into the room, where her clipboard was already charmed to take notes, Irene looked to be sure all was in order and then glanced at the list and called the first student forward. Once the student was inside, Irene shut the door tightly and began the exam.

OOCOut of Character:

Roleplay your character's attempt to apparate to a point in the room. Don't forget that the Great Hall would look as it would on a regular day minus the students. :p

You will get an exam grade of A or T depending on whether you roleplay your character succeeding or failing. Extra credit will be given for the level of detail in your roleplay regardless of passing or failing. Feel free to godmod Irene if it is necessary to your roleplay. If you have any questions, PM me. No replies will be accepted beyond Wednesday, the end of exam period!

Apparition was unlike any other subject Fleur had had at Hogwarts, so she assumed the exam would be very different too. The girl was glad she had managed to apparate in the last two lessons, as it made her feel like she was prepared for this exam. But still, it was nerve-wracking to wait for her classmates to take their turn without knowing what would be asked of her. At least she had a last name that would be called relatively early, and she pitied Stella for her last name with the 'W' as she had to wait a lot longer. When Fleur was called into the Great Hall, she stepped inside. The warning the teacher had given them about a hair, button or shoelace remaining being too much was still fresh in her mind. They only had one shot, and Fleur was determined to do well. The great hall looked as it always did, which was strangely comforting. Fleur was told to apparate over to the Ravenclaw table, and she took a moment to concentrate. She focused on the three D's, and managed to apparate over to the spot the teacher had indicated. Fleur wasn't entirely sure, but she was pretty certain she had managed to pass. She left the great hall, lingering nearby to wait how her friends had done.

Theodore was not usually nervous for exams, but they usually felt less important than this one. Apparition was something that was necessary for a lot of jobs, and simply something that was expected of many adults. There was the fact too that Theodore simply wanted to do well in this. He wanted to pass, which was why he was so nervous now. He listened to the teacher as she explained what they had to do, his heart sinking when he realized it would go in alphabetical order. With his last name, he would certainly be one of the last ones here, waiting for his turn. At least he had his brother to wait alongside him too. He waited for his turn, becoming more and more impatient. Edmund went before him, and once his twin was done it was Theodore's turn. A childish part of him had wished they could go in together, but he knew better than to even suggest it. He headed inside when it was his turn and listened to the instructions. He was told to apparate to a point near the Slytherin table, and he focused on the spot. He thought of the three D's, closing his eyes as he focused entirely. When he opened his eyes, he had moved to the intended spot. Relieved, Theodore smiled slightly. He felt like he had done well.

Charlotte was ready for her exam. She wanted to succeed in this and believed she would. She and Simon together. When the teacher was there she found a place on the bench. She listened as the teacher spoke. Charlotte didn't felt nervous but just wanted to be done with it. She had a lot more classes to do and her head was a bit full right now. But she wanted to take as many classes as possible. There was one shot and that was it, so Charlotte had to focus. It was really strict if one hair or some piece of yourself was still at the place you were. That was really strict, but that was why the blonde had put her hair in a bun this time so that the chance of a hair on the ground or something was less. And Charlotte wanted things always to be perfect so she had been practicing ofcourse in the previous lessons and studyed hard for this exam. Because in real life you didn't had more than one chance too. Charlotte sighted and looked at the students that went before her. Some better than the others it seemed as she looked at their reactions. When it was her turn the blonde stepped inside and smiled shortly to the woman confidently. She would show her what she got. It was good to leave a impression she figured. She listened as the instructions for her were explained. She had to had to apparate to the headmistress chair. And Charlotte looked at it for a moment. It was a good spot she believed and she could do it. Charlotte took a deep breath and focused on the spot where she had to apparate to. Charlotte thought again of the three D's, and closed her eyes shortly so she could focus in her mind better. This would be it. She didn't let herself distracted by anything or the woman looking at her and when she opened her eyes she looked beside her and saw the headmistress chair. At the professor's table. Charlotte felt at her clothes if she still had anything and her bun was still there. It succeeded and in the one shot she got she felt it was perfect. She smiled and thanked the teacher.

Stella didn't think she'd ever been so nervous for an exam. Even during her OWLs, which had been a nightmare of pressure for her, she'd known what to do and deep down she'd been fairly certain she'd do well. There was none of that here. Stella had managed to apparate in the last lesson, but not in the one before. That wasn't enough practice. She didn't feel ready at all. And she didn't trust this teacher whatsoever; Stella suspected she'd pull some nasty trick on them in the exam, since she seemed to like to make students do things they weren't properly prepared for. And, of course, with her last name, Stella had an interminable wait before she was finally called. She wished Fleur and Zoe luck as they went in, and waited. At last, her name was called. Stella was startled but not surprised to see the Great Hall laid out as usual; apparating past objects would be an important skill, but they hadn't had the chance to try it! This was ridiculous. Nevertheless, Stella tried to clear her head of her discontent, and focus on the task at hand. She was told to apparate to a spot near Gryffindor table. She could do this. Stella concentrated, hard, on the three Ds and that feeling in her stomach she'd learned to look for. Nothing was happening. She closed her eyes - and then she felt it. Anxiously, Stella opened them, afraid to see where she was. But yes, it had worked, she had made it! Stella briefly glanced down at herself, but she didn't think there was anything out of place. She left the hall with a smug smile, and rejoined Fleur outside.

Simon had been the most nervous for an exam with this. It felt like there was a lot more riding on this. If he didn’t do great in his exams normally he could make up for it in other areas, but the apparition was so final, either he passed or he didn’t. Now, Simon had not yet failed an exam. He had never gotten that close to it, and flying certainly didn’t count. He knew this very important, he had always known it would be, but now that it was right there it felt both so close and impossible. The ravenclaw also knew that regardless of if they went by first or last name he would be one of the last to go, so he was sat close by just reading the book he had on apparition until one by one the other students in his class were called in and then at long last, his name was called. The part-veela brushed himself down and stepped with his head held high into the room. He might be nervous about it but he wasn’t about to let it show.
Simon looked towards the teacher in the room. His gaze staying fixed on hers and she described to him what he needed to be able to do. It was as she told him where to stand and where he was to end up that he really took in the room around him. He hadn’t paid that much attention to it really, the room was the same as always, though not the same as always for their apparition classes, no, that was different now. He looked at where he needed to apparate to, took it in, let his mind fill with the room and how it looked and of course his final destination. He remember the three D’s of this class, he’d read them enough over the last few days and hours. He focused his mind, he had his destination there, he utilised all he remembered from the last class of this, and then when he felt the tug he was quick to lean and with a snap he was across the room. He took a moment to let out a breath and with no immediate pain he had to imagine ti was fine. He turned to look at where he’d been and not one stand of his auburn hair was on the ground where he’d stood. He’d done it.

Shane felt antsy, he knew this was important, but goodness did he just want the skill already. He could do it, he’d shown that he’d been able to do it, he just needed to get it and all of the waiting for it was driving him a little up the wall. Shane just wanted to have it already, but of course there was the fact he did actually have to attempt to pass this class. He just had a little more to do and then he would be happily able to take his apparition skill, legally forward. The boy was pleased that he knew he’d be one of the first called, and as it turned out his was the very first name. Though perhaps for most being first wasn’t too desirable, Shane couldn’t help but feel relieved that he wouldn’t have to worry or sit worrying about it as student after student in front of him managed to go first. Shane was just ready to pass.
The hufflepuff walked with a certain level of eagerness into the great hall, immediately glancing around at everything around him. The room had much more in it than it had in the past for the apparition classes. He didn’t mind all that much. In his mind it wasn’t the biggest deal, he could do this regardless of how much was in the room. After all he would need to be able to do that if he were to actually do this outside of school. He stood where he was told to and quickly looked to where he was supposed to end up. He didn’t waste any more time however, he focused, really centered his mind on where he wanted to end up in this room. He let himself think of nothing else and then with a little pull and a pop Shane was across the room. He took a moment to ensure all of him was there but he was pretty pleased with himself regardless of it. He’d done it.

Zoe had never been anxious for any exam the way she was anxious for the one today. She had managed to apparate in the last lesson, barely, and she hoped desperately that she would be good enough today to get her license. She could practice and get more confident in her own time now that she knew how, but she needed the license to do it. So Zoe waited outside the Great Hall with her classmates, wishing they were going alphabetically by first name instead. The more time she had to prepare herself and try to clear her thoughts, the better.

Finally, Zoe's name was called and she followed the lady into the Great Hall, listening carefully to the spot she had been told to apparate. It felt so much more complicated with all these chairs and tables in the way. But... okay. Zoe could do this, she knew it. Closing her eyes, Zoe focused her thoughts, trying to completely clear her mind of all her worries and other thoughts. It wouldn't be any good to get distracted thinking about the Loch Ness Monster, or whether she would be able to see Teddy over the holidays. No thoughts other than Destination, Determination, Deliberation. Zoe felt like she had been standing still stupidly forever when she finally felt the pull, relaxing as she leaned into the feeling at once. She had done it! Opening her eyes, Zoe felt a surge of relief when she saw she was standing in exactly the spot she had been told to. She had done it!

Edmund had been thinking about this exam since the moment he had stepped out of his last apparition lesson. With everything else on his plate it would have been easy to forget, but Edmund wanted to make sure he did well today. He didn't know what he would do with himself in the future if he couldn't apparate. He had to pass this exam, for the sake of his independence. He waited with his classmates outside the Great Hall, irritated by how late in the alphabet his last name was. He wanted this over and done with already.

Finally his turn came, and Edmund entered the Great Hall, doing his best to clear his mind. He had had reasonable success in the lessons, but knowing his luck, today would be the day something went wrong. Edmund took note of his target, then focused all of his thoughts, trying to tap into the feeling that had worked for him so many times previously. After a few moments of focusing, Edmund was relieved to feel a pull, apparating with a pop exactly to where he was supposed to be standing. Giving a heavy sigh of relief, Edmund actually smiled at the examiner before leaving the room, only realising what he had done after he had left. Now that was embarrassing.

Charlie almost couldn't believe what she was feeling. It was definitely something she had never felt before an exam in the past. Confidence. She had done better in the apparition lessons than she thought she had ever done in any other lesson before, and it was a relief to walk into the exam knowing that. Though she couldn't say the same for any other subject (except possibly Defense Against the Dark Arts) Charlie felt like she was absolutely going to ace this exam. It was a good feeling.

Once her name was called Charlie entered the Great Hall, nodding as she listened to the woman's instructions. The clutter in the room made things a bit more complicated, but as Charlie was discovering, anything to do with focus and visualisation seemed to come naturally to her. It only took seconds before she felt a pull towards her target, and a moment later she appeared there with a pop, not a hair out of place. It was a good feeling, and Charlie left the Great Hall in high spirits, glad to have actually done well at something for once in her life.

It was the exams day. Apparition was the one quite difficult to prepare for. For one reason, they could not practice it outside the class since they were not allowed to apparate within the Hogwarts grounds and in the castle itself. Alexis took a deep breath as she waited for her turn. They all stood outside of the great hall while one by one they entered to take the test. She could not help but pace in circles to steady her nerves. Soon enough, her name was called and she slowly made her way inside. She expected for some sort of obstacle course but was surprised that the Great Hall looked the way it was on normal days sans the students.
Prof. Finch gave the instructions and she was signaled to start. She was instructed to apparate to the one end of the Slytherin table. Taking a deep breath, she took a small forward and with a pop, she rematerialized at the one end of the indicated table. She checked her body from head to toe to check if she had any splinching that were not that painful but could cost her her mark. The Ravenclaw glanced over at the woman who was also checking the spot where she previously stood, probably to check for anything, even a strand of hair or eyebrow, that was left. Writing something on her clipboard, Prof. Finch nodded at her which she was done and could leave the hall. She thanked the professor and quietly left the room.
