Irene Finch had specifically asked for the tables to be left in place for the exam. If the sixth years were going to be licensed, then they would need to possess the ability to work with their surroundings. Apparating across an empty room was convenient for beginners to practice, but the chances of apparating to a truly empty space were going to be slim to none in the real world. There'd be tree filled forests, garbage strewn alleys, and perhaps, when they were lucky, the occasional field or valley. This would be an especially important test for those students who were interested in careers in the Ministry as apparating was a requirement for many of the positions. It was an important skill, allowing independence of movement.

Irene arrived at the castle just in time to greet the students who were waiting just outside the Great Hall. The students were seated on the benches that had been provided to await their turn. "Good afternoon" she greeted, her icy blue eyes taking them in one by one. "In a moment, I'll begin calling you in alphabetically by your last name. Once I do, I'll ask you to apparate to a spot in the room. You will only get one shot. I will not pass you if even a hair, button, or shoelace remains where you once stood." Irene's gaze drifted by several students. Irene let them sit with that for a moment, wanting it to be clear because she hated the annoying begging for another chance that came when a student failed. She looked at their faces, wondering which ones she would be seeing in the courses that were provided by the Ministry throughout the year. Many people failed the exam on their first try, but the woman did nothing to reassure the students of this fact. It had been an interesting semester of lessons with this group, so she wasn't sure how successful they would be.

Stepping back into the room, where her clipboard was already charmed to take notes, Irene looked to be sure all was in order and then glanced at the list and called the first student forward. Once the student was inside, Irene shut the door tightly and began the exam.

OOCOut of Character:
Roleplay your character's attempt to apparate to a point in the room. Don't forget that the Great Hall would look as it would on a regular day minus the students. :p
You will get an exam grade of A or T depending on whether you roleplay your character succeeding or failing. Extra credit will be given for the level of detail in your roleplay regardless of passing or failing. Feel free to godmod Irene if it is necessary to your roleplay.

If you have any questions, PM me. No replies will be accepted beyond Wednesday, the end of exam period!

Leia was very nervous about the apparition exam. It had been a busy period, but this was the one exam she didn't feel too confident about. It was entirely because this wasn't something she could practice, it wasn't something she could revise, not like she could revise for transfiguration or charms, it was just one chance to get it and then she could do it. The girl had spent some time going over all they'd been taught, reading any book which made reference to it. But she couldn't now, the whole exam was getting started. She was in amongst the other students watching as other went ahead of her.

Eventually Leia was called forward and she stepped into the room. Her hands were in tight fists, unable to really relax in that moment, she was stressed about this, and it was the manner to keep her hands from shaking too much. The girl looked to the woman who'd taught them and nodded lightly as she was given instructions. Leia looked at the spot she was meant to get to, and was half tempted to first walk over but knew that that probably wasn't allowed. The teen just had to focus, be reminded of the three D's and then let herself lean into that feeling and after a few minutes of nothing, where Leia was keeping her concentration, she felt the tug and with a crack was in the spot she needed to be. Happily so. She tried to not appear too eager to make sure she was in one piece but given there was no pain and the woman wasn't rushing to her aid, she had to assume she'd done it.

Lumio needed to pass this more than any other exam he had taken since coming to the school. Apparating had always been the most important thing for him to learn, it was something he needed to know how to do, and that was even before he knew he wanted to be able to do it for Ronald and their trips abroad. It would be an exciting period to be able to go anywhere and now have to deal with the usual travel or anything else. He knew it was a fairly narrow reason for wanting it and wanting to be able ot pass it now, but it didn't matter the why of it really. He had the opportunity to pass now, so why wouldn't he do his best to try.

He was one of the last names to be called forward, given where his surname placed him on the alphabet. But he didn't mind, he was able to focus, to spend the time before it revising, mostly because he hadn't done as much as others perhaps had. Lumio still hadn't figured out the best way for him to study. But he closed the book and put it down before following the woman into the hall. He was immediately thrown by all the furniture about. He knew it made no difference but he also in part worried that it would end up with him slicing himself in half on the table or something. He nodded as he was told where he was to apparate to, and in his mind imagined what the spot in the room look like. He concentrated though it took him a couple of minutes of focus and re-focusing before he felt like he was concentrating well and he was reward with this, with the pull and then being tugged across the room to the spot. He let out a sigh of relief, hopeful that he'd managed it.

Lucas was feeling pretty nervous about the exam today, on top of feeling generally miserable. Ever since Kas had suddenly left, he hadn't been in a great mood. He barely felt like he could focus on his exam, but he knew he had to try his best. Apparition was an important life skill, after all. He was pretty quiet as he waited for his turn, smiling weakly at some of his classmates as they went in. The assignment seemed easy enough, though Miss Finch had made it clear she would be very strict. When it was Lucas' turn, he headed in silently. He listened as he was told where to apparate and took a moment to focus. He managed to apparate to the right spot. He felt relieved when he left the Great Hall.

Augustus wasn't so sure about this. Out of all the magic he had learned at Hogwarts, apparition had to be the most difficult so far. He hadn't managed to apparate at all in the first lesson and had only managed it a bit last week. He wasn't sure if he would be able to pass the exam, and if he failed he knew he would feel very bad. He had to wait a long time until it was his turn, growing increasingly nervous as his classmates went in one by one. He was at least glad no one would be there to see the humiliation if he failed. When it was his turn, he went in nervously. The assignment was clear, and Augustus took a long moment to focus. He felt a bit self-conscious, but he knew he had to take his time to do this right. He apparated, and when he opened his eyes he was immensely relieved to see he was in the right spot. He waited anxiously for the teacher to dismiss him before he went.

Ryan rarely put much stock into passing his classes. Grades didn't interest him more than the material did. If he liked it, he'd do the work, if he didn't he did his own thing. It worked for him and while Nicole tutted at him, his parents didn't care as much. Apparition however was another story. Ryan very much was looking forward to mastering it and being able to apparate out of school. The amount of time he could save on trips to the Harbour or because he wanted to pop over to check something out in the UK. It was so much more appealing than floo powder.

Eager to get started, Ryan joined the other sixth years in the great hall, noting that it was still set up as normal for meal times. That would make things decidedly more difficult if he had to dodge tables and chairs, but Ryan was sure he could handle it. He had the Three D's down no problem and despite his initial struggle, Ryan really thought he'd managed the hang of practical application now.

Thankfully, he didn't have to wait too long before he was called forward, the instructor from the ministry giving him a target about mid-way down the hall, just to the right of the Gryffindor house table. Easy. Ryan stared at the spot for a moment before closing his eyes, envisioning himself standing there. If he could use the spacing of the windows and the staff table it was a lot easier to imagine the distance and Ryan squeezed his eyes just a little tighter, willing himself over to the spot. He grinned as he felt the tugging sensation, appearing with a pop right on target. He nearly stumbled as he opened his eyes, disoriented and having to rest a hand on the nearby table, but he'd nailed the target and that was all that mattered.

Finn could feel his heart thudding in his chest as he approached the Great Hall for his Apparition exam. Though he had managed to apparate in the last class, Finn was more uncertain than ever about actually doing so on a regular basis. Every time he thought about it, memories of Odette's biological mother's fate rushed through his mind. Splinching was terrifying, and he didn't want to risk anything like that happening. But he had talked things through with Mum, and come to the conclusion that he didn't need to use his license once he had it. He would have it, and have the freedom to apparate if necessary, but he could still get around by floo on a regular basis if it made him more comfortable. So he had decided to follow through and sit the exam, however much it scared him.

Finn hated how late in the alphabet his surname was, mouth dry with fear by the time it was his turn to try. He swallowed and nodded as he followed Ms. Finch into the Great Hall, taking careful note of the spot she assigned him. Right. He could do this. Finn took a slow breath and centered himself, thinking of the advice he had gotten from Mum and Charlie. Just relax. It took a long time, an embarrassingly long time before Finn settled enough to feel safe making an attempt, but he managed to successfully banish the thought of splinching from his mind, and when he felt the urge pull him he disappeared and reappeared easily on the target he had been assigned, wholly intact. Finn couldn't hold back a grin of relief, overwhelmed that it was over, and he would never have to apparate again if he didn't want to. But if he did, he would have the option. And there was nothing wrong with continuing to work out the fear in his own time his own way.

Kia had absolutely no worries about the Apparition exam that day. She was hardly fazed as she walked into the room and saw nothing had been changed. That was practical, after all. She took her place with the other students, watching as each of them attempted to apparate and noting their successes or failures with interest. When it was her turn, Kia stepped forward, shutting her eyes, and apparated flawlessly across the room. She smirked. She had expected nothing else. She lingered, watching the other students to see who could and couldn't, before leaving as they were dismissed.

Addy was a little nervous about her exam today, but she thought she could do it. She noted the absence of both Casper and Allison, and her brow furrowed. Where could they be? She unthinkingly drifted closer to Augustus, watching him as he stepped up for his turn. She was relieved and proud when he managed it, before stepping up to try herself. She took several deep breaths, closing her eyes and trying to focus. After a few moments, she felt the tugging. She lost her concentration a moment too soon, and stumbled onto the mark she'd been aiming for. Her heart racing, she glanced to the instructor with wide eyes, hoping she'd managed to pass but unsure if landing a smidgen too early and stumbling on the mark would count as failing.

Casper had completely meant to skip this class. But Linden had caught him and dragged him to class. Cas was nervous, and again hid in the back until almost everyone else had gone. He shut his eyes when it was finally his turn. Cas let out a very shaky sigh, and walked up to try. He was shaky, and nervous. He looked over and spotted Linden. The smile his best friend gave him, oddly enough, seemed to calm him down.

Cas took a deep breath and tuned back to the task at hand. His mind seemed a little clearer now. He focused, and there was that familiar tugging around his middle. He tried to lean into it, and when he opened his eyes, he was standing in the center of the mark. Casper let out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding. He gave the woman a shaky smile and rushed from the room, looking to see if Linden would join him or not.

out of all the exams this year the operation one was the most important. he was getting to the stage where he didn't want to keep asking family members to apperae him to places. and now he was of age he was looking forward to the holidays where he could do what he wanted when he wanted. hanging out with his mates and taking lucas to the moon. he was just heading to the exam when he saw casper sneaking in the opposite direction. he managed to catch up to him and convince him that missing this exam would be the worst idea he could make as not being able to apperate would suck.
they reached the waiting room and they took seats in the only free places available. Even though he hadn't been able to successfully apperate yet linden was feeling confident. he knew he could. he looked around at the others in he room made eye contact with lucas and smiled good luck. he wanted to be next to his boyfriend so he could wish him good luck but unfortunately as he had been one of the last in there wasn't space. he smiled reasuringly at casper and at some of the other students.
slowly the numbers decreased as people went in. he mutered good luck to lucas and cas as hey passed then it was his turn. he got up and entered the hall.
the exam seemed easy enough apperate to a spot in the hall that ms finch said. for him It was a spot at the end of the slytherin table. he took a deep breath and thought of the three d's destination determination and deliberation. he stepped, turned and when his foot hit the floor he was there. at the slytherin bench in front of one of the place settings. he mentally checked himself wiggling his fingers and toes to make sure that none were left behind and then smiled a huge grin and let out a small woop. he had done it. he made his way to the exit door still smiling hoping that on the other side he would hear that his friend had also succeeded.
