This was an important milestone in the life of a wizard, and Irene Finch knew that many of the students looked at their license as a taste of the freedom they'd earn on their way to becoming fully trained wizards. With the registration list tucked in a folder that was under her arm, the woman stepped into the room, her heels announcing her presence. She called attendance, making sure that no one had snuck into the room without paying their galleons. Tucking the folder away, Irene began. "Good afternoon, sixth years. My name is Irene Finch and I'm Head of the Department of Magical Transportation. I'm here on behalf of the Ministry of Magic to prepare you for your apparition exam." She said all of this briskly. Irene was not a lady who liked her time wasted. In truth, she enjoyed teaching apparition to much of the dull paperwork she was often stuck doing as the head of a department. Walking around as she spoke, Irene's icy blue eyes looked at all of them and none of them at once. "The headmistress has been kind enough to lift the enchantment placed on this room so that you will be able to practice apparating within these walls for the duration of our lessons. But do not attempt to do so in your free time. It would be...unwise to attempt practicing here or elsewhere outside of these lessons" she stated in a very firm tone.

With so few students and the furniture against the walls as she'd requested, her voice carried easily around the large room. The woman focused on a student who'd been fidgeting, her blue eyes piercing into the student. "I will warn you from the start that your ability to apparate will have little to do with what house you are in or your blood status. Your ability to apparate will, solely, depend on your ability to focus on the three Ds: Destination.Determination. Deliberation." She enunciated each word. "There are no shortcuts. If you fail to grasp these concepts, you will fail your exam. First, you must choose your destination." She'd made a quick scan and found the perfect landing point. " Next, you will focus your determination and once you feel you are ready..." With a small step, Irene apparated next to one of the sixth years who had been whispering while she was lecturing and continued, "you must move with deliberation like so." She gave the student a sharp look.

Moving towards the front of the room, Irene continued lecturing the students. She knew that some were probably expecting to apparate today but she also knew that the foundation for apparating started with this very important information. Soon enough their time was up, and they had done nothing but listen. "Don't forget the 3 Ds. I will see you all next time. A word to the wise: Don't bring anything with you to the next lesson. The less you carry, the easier it will be." With that, she dismissed the students though she waited a few moments longer in the event that any of the students had questions.

Please make sure to register for the course! Remember that these lessons are so that your student can earn a license. Without it, they can't apparate!

This is just the first of only three lessons before the exam takes place.

In all honestly, Mary Lou had never even considered she might become confident enough in her magic and its usage that she would even dare to attempt something as incredibly complicated as Apparition. However, she’d found that after all the confidence lessons with Kalif and his ridiculously good ability at making her face her fears and pushing her to her limits and then her education in Ilvermorny, she was feeling far more prepared than she ever considered she might. It was a nice feeling, and she was enjoying this new found confidence. Of course she was still anxious, nervous, that sort of thing didn’t just go away, but it had been six years of this now, of course she was becoming more and more understanding of this world and her role in it and so as she headed into the Great Hall for the lesson, her wand grasped tightly in her hand, she’d decided that she was not going to fail this class. She wasn’t going to allow herself to fail. It wasn’t in her nature anymore. Kalif had all but pushed it out of her.

She faced Miss Irene with a glint in her eye, one of determination and support. She wanted to be good enough and she wanted to be able to do all the adult magical things that other people could do. She wanted to be accomplished and have that ability with her. There were things she couldn’t do, but this was not going to be one of them. She still didn’t fly, even though she’d eventually learned how, she just found this to be much more motivating. And at least she wasn’t going to be in the air.

Seeing the ability demonstrated was amazing and in the time it had taken Mary Lou to blink, the woman had appeared much closer to them. She wondered idly what the limits of the ability were, but wasn’t going to ask those questions right now, though it reminded her that she was going to have to go to the library at some point if she wanted to read more about it, which probably wasn’t a bad idea all things considered. She had other things to catch up on too after all, so if she could do it all in one go, that would be a good thing, she was sure. As the woman dismissed the class, Mary Lou quickly moved to ask her a question “do we still bring our wands though, if we bring nothing else?”, after all this was magic, surely you needed your wand, right? She then left the class after hearing the woman’s answer.

Leia hadn’t realised until she got home that Padme had moved out. She knew something had been going on because her sister had stopped sending that many letters, but the radio silence from her was only amplified when she wasn’t at the house. Leia had, as the youngest, spent the most amount of time at home without her siblings. But the house was never that quiet. With Vader, Ava and the twins, there was always something going on. Leia had just been feeling her sister’s unexplained absence. She hadn’t even come back for christmas, only sending an odd note saying that she was working. Leia hadn’t tried to go see her, feeling a little stung by it and unwilling to put in the effort if her sister wasn’t going to either. But that was hardly that helpful to the overall feeling. However, the break hadn’t been long and now she was back at school there was no time to think about it. Leia was getting herself ready for the day, focusing on herself and what she needed to do to have another successful semester. Leia grabbed the last of her books and headed out of the dorm and to her first class.

Leia was looking forward to this, she had seen her brother learn it and seen her sister do it. Now it was her turn. She arrived at the great hall and stood in amongst the rest of the class as they were brought into the great hall. She looked to the woman she recognised from the other years at this period. She didn’t have her notes on her, because she kenw she wasn’t supposed to but she did really want them. She needed to do this and do it well. The slytherin listened closely and was glad for the reassurance that apparition didn’t come easy to anyone more than others. She watched as the woman apparated in front of them, and though she’d seen Padme and Vader do it, it was still amazing. The teen wanted to do be able to do it now, but as it turned out she would have to wait a little bit. The lesson was brought to an end, and it was then Leia heard a voice she hadn’t heard in a good few years. She glanced around and frowned. Mary Lou was back?! Leia wondered why she’d come back and where she’d been, but discarded the thoughts as left the hall.

Lumio walked into the great hall, he knew this would be the best thing to learn. Afterall, going to places would be so much easier if he was able to apparate both he and Ronald to it. Then in the next year Ronald would be able to it too. It would be the best thing, they would have so much fun constantly. The gryffindor looked to the woman who was teaching it and nodded along eagerly as she went over what it took to do it and how no pureblood would be better at this than anyone else. He wasn’t too surprised when by the professor’s end they wouldn’t be getting to try it in this lesson. He nodded as the woman wrapped things on and he felt eager to go back to the dorm and write down a little of what she’d told them.

Casper wouldn't hesitate to admit he was nervous about this class. At least he could be here with both of the twins. He stood a little closer to Addison, looking around at everyone that was there. He swallowed nervously, turning to look at the Professor as she began speaking. He knew this was a serious matter, really, he did. He wasn't sure he could manage it. He was fidgeting, and straightened immediately when she seemed to single him out. He swallowed hard, her icy eyes had almost seemed to burn into his soul. He nodded vigorously to what she said, repeating it in his head a few times. Destination. Determination. Deliberation. He slunk a little closer to Allison, wishing she was taller so he could duck behind her. Why did he have to be the tall one? He hurried from the room as they were dismissed, afraid of what may be to come.

Allison wasn't worried at all about this. She paid her galleons to get into class and went to stand with the others. The woman that was speaking to them was very commanding. Allison remained unfazed, smirking a bit anytime the womans eyes passed over her. This should actually prove to be interesting. She repeated the womans words in her head, peeking to the side as she felt Cas slip behind her. She reached back and took his hand. He was such a baby. He booked it out of the class as soon as they were dismissed. Allison couldn't help but chuckle and took off after him.

Addy was a little nervous about this class. Not because she thought she couldn't do it, but more because she was worried about how dangerous it was. She had heard that it wasn't uncommon for students to injure themselves during these lessons. She stood with her family, keeping an eye out for Augustus. Soon enough, the woman in charge began to speak. Addy turned her attention to the official, listening carefully to everything she said. She noticed Cas slipping closer to Allison. That made sense, Allie was definitely the toughest among them. She followed the other two from the room as they were dismissed, quietly repeating the three D's under her breath.

If there was one class Kia had no intention of missing, it was this one. She walked in and stood near Leia, mostly ignoring the other students. She was listening to the woman speak, taking in everything she said. At the end of the lesson, a familiar voice spoke. Kia turned her head too quickly, her eyes narrowing. Mary Lou. That traitor came back? Kia's teeth clenched as ice ran through her veins. Not that she really had an issue with Mary Lou. But she heavily associated the girl with Kalif and Jett, and Riku. The traitorous idiots that had abandoned her. Feeling way too vulnerable, and now arguably furious, Kia stormed from the class and down to the dungeons. She didn't know where Mary Lou Prindeou had crawled back from but she wished the stupid blond had never come back.

It had been a long time since Lucas had been amazed by magic he could do. He could remember clearly just how wonderful and impossible it had all seemed when he was eleven, but he had gotten used to it over the years. Still, the idea of apparating was almost too fantastical for him. It was basically teleporting, which was a wild idea to think about. The person teaching them was a lady working at the Ministry, which somehow made it all feel more official and real to him. The lady was pretty strict, and Lucas listened closely as she explained a bit of theory about apparition. The three D's seemed very important, so Lucas tried his best to memorize them. The next lesson seemed like it was going to be more practical, which was both exciting and scary. Lucas felt a bit nervous for next time as he left the great hall.

As much as he liked the idea of the freedom it allowed, Finn wasn't entirely comfortable coming into the Apparition lessons. He knew apparition had come easily to Charlie, knew that Emily had gotten there with a bit of extra work, but the sibling the lessons always made him think of was Odette. She had never gotten her Apparition license, and Finn couldn't blame her one bit. Finn had never asked Odette about her birth mother directly, but he knew enough of what had happened to entirely understand his oldest sister's hesitations. If he had lost his mum to splinching, he wouldn't want to try apparating either.

But he was here. After thinking it over, Finn had decided he had to at least try. There was likely nowhere safer than Hogwarts to learn, with Ministry officials and a nurse on site watching, and Charlie had always been the sibling he had the most in common with. If they had found apparition easy, maybe it would come to him with the same ease. So he clustered with his classmates as the lady from the Ministry introduced herself and explained the course. He made sure to remember the most important parts, committing the three Ds to memory. He could do this. Once class was over he left the Great Hall with the others, deciding to write to Charlie for advice that evening, and very certain that he was not going to write to Odette.

Augustus had considered not coming to this lesson at all, as he was honestly a little terrified of apparition. He had no idea how he'd do at it, and it reminded him a bit of the flying lessons from first year. He had hated those too. The boy was waiting around anxiously for the lesson to start, staying near Addison. The woman that came to teach them was, frankly, terrifying, and Augustus kept his gaze lowered as she introduced herself and spoke to them. She told them the enchantment was lifted on the great hall but that they shouldn't attempt to apparate in other places would be unwise. Augustus wondered if you would die, and how. He thought about that for a moment, then was drawn back into the lecture as it seemed like the teacher was saying something important. She told them about the three D's, which Augustus listened to quietly. It made some sense, but it also all sounded pretty vague. He glanced at Addison, wondering what she was making of all this. When the lesson was over, Augustus felt relieved. He was happy to get out of there, but also nervous. It sounded like they would really get started next week.

Ryan had been wanting to learn how to apparate since he was six years old and accidentally magiced himself up a tall tree he'd been desperate to climb. It was irritating that he'd had to wait to many years but at least finally he was here, listening as the ministry instructor introduced them. He watched closely as she went over the basic mnemonic and a quick demonstration. It was nothing new per se, Ryan had seen his parents apparate often enough, but it was different watching with the intent to learn. It was disappointing when the lecture ended without them being allowed to try anything practical themselves yet, Ryan's brain already ticking over how much he could get done over the holidays once he'd mastered apparition, but he left the hall without further complaint. The sooner this lesson finished the sooner they could move on to practical learning.

Linden had always wanted to be able to aperate. he was getting sick of asking his mum dad or sister to bring him somewhere if ne needed to go to work or visit anyone over the break. it would be so much better if he could just go on his own. he entered the great hall to see it full. almost the entire year was out to lean the skill. the expressions on their faces seemed to range from excitement, like his, to awe, to some kind of fear or apprehension.
the lady at the front seemed strict as she spoke her words tight. but he listened he was sure you would be able to hear a quill drop the amount of attention people were giving the lady as she spoke about the three d's. it sounded easy enough in theory. but he was pretty sure next week they would learn how hard it was actually going to be focusing that hard to apperate and not to splinch. soon they were dismissed and he left looking around for his friends running the d's in his mind.
