Killian might not have been able to duel when he was a kid - due to his giant genes, this was the next best thing. He did wonder how dueling was in Hogwarts New Zealand versus the dueling that was over in Durmstrang. Only time would tell. He signed up again this year to help proctor the dueling matches. At least if a spell went sideways and hit him, he will likely not feel it. "Choose opposite ends of the stage. When you are ready, bow to your opponent, and begin. Whoever wins will advance." Killian took a step back and folded his arms across his chest to witness the chaos.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

It was a relief when she got past the first round and deduced that Horror didn’t have to kill her yet. Now she had a new opponent and she could practically feel the gaze of her tutors? Study mates? She did not feel like being scolded if she were to lose this duel. She bowed to her opponent and threw the first spell. “Incarcerous!”

Oz thought it was absolute unicorn dung that Horror got to sail through to the next round after severely injuring his friend. His brother got a free ride through too. Oz, meanwhile, had had to deal with non-stop harassment and frankly probably deserved the free pass, but he supposed his family didn't have a reputation. He wasn't going to dwell on it too much, and while Hinata seemed like a very sweet girl, Oz had to win in order to beat Horror for Hugo's sake. He politely bowed to her and raised an eyebrow at the spell that came towards him. He responded with a quick diffindo spell specifically to cut the ropes, letting them helplessly fall in pieces at his feet. Oz followed that up with a jelly-fingers jinx.

Hina had never had problems with Oz, the two of them just had... different friends? So they never really interact. Hina tended to hang more with Horror and Mikael - both of which weren't exactly the friendliest sort - and then eventually, Bailey. Still, she thought he was nice enough. But that didn't mean she wanted to lose, because she was pretty sure Horror would kill her if she lost to anyone but him. On second though, he'll probably kill her for that too. Mikael too. So, yeah, she really needed to win this one. Fingers crossed. She blocked the spell and cast right back, "Obscuro!"

Oz at least could stay calm enough to block the spell that came for him and fire back an Impedimentia spell in return. He had the feeling Hinata was a really dedicated actress, committed to pretending like she didn't have some sort of killer instinct. Well, as long as she wasn't outright out for blood it wasn't like that was any of his business. He was just going to keep his guard up.

Hina could feel a shiver up her spine knowing that her cousin was watching her even as she silently cast a shield to block her housemate's spell before she cast Diffindo right back.

Diffindo? Oz only just got a shield up in time, staring at Hinata with wide eyes. That settled it, then. She was out for blood. He would visit Hugo in the hospital wing, but Oz didn't want to end up there by force. "Muffliato," he cast in reply, hoping it would at least throw her off.

Hinata probably should practice her nonverbal casting more because a shield didn’t form when she tried to and she was quickly hit by the spell, an annoying buzz in her ear. Well that was annoying, but it was fine because it wasn’t like she’d be able to hear nonverbal casts anyway. If there was anything good about practicing with her Slytherin friends however, it was that one got used to using more… aggressive spells. “REDUCTO!” she yelled, mostly because it was a struggle to hear even her own voice.

Oz was kind of surprised it worked, but flinched and hunched over as he desperately cast a shield charm to protect himself. "Voldemort's scaly a*se," he muttered, his side of the platform now a bit messed up and giving him less room to move. Startled, he thought for a moment before firing back a canary transfiguration hex.

Hinata could not hear whatever it was that Oz had said but yelled out a shield anyway, this time which held up this time against whatever spell her housemate had cast. Well if Reducto hadn't worked, maybe something stronger then. "CONFRINGO!"

Nope, she was actually insane. What was with people trying to not just win a duel but actively murder him in the process? He scrambled for another shield, as once again he vaguely considered exploding out of spite but decided he would much rather keep his life. "Ravenclaw's t*ts, woman, calm down!" he groaned, only belatedly realising that she couldn't actually hear him. Somehow, he hadn't fully comprehended his earlier spell had worked. "Impedimentia!" he yelled, if she was going to keep going on this sort of rampage she needed to stop.

Hinata could not hear much of what was happening. With her earlier spell however having messed up the platform, she used a hover charm to pick up the largest piece of debris she could get - it was only about an arms-length in width and it was more wide than long but pretty jagged. Which was timely because she had just seen Oz starting to cast, and so she used the debris as a makeshift shield, hovering it in between them before raising it up high and attempting to bludgeon her classmate with it. It was a little slow though even as she put more force into the spell to make it drop faster. You know what, she should just cancel the spell and drop it on his head. Yeah, that should work. She cancelled the spell in an attempt to drop the debris on Oz's head.

Conan... didn't quite understand what he was watching. He didn't even believe it when they said that Hinata had won the Duelling Tournament last year. Just... imagining Hina in a duel was weird. And so when he was told that Hina would be duelling today for the 2nd Round, he figured he should watch and cheer on his daughter. He... wasn't quite sure Hina needed cheering. So he was just sort of standing there watching his shy, sweet, little girl throw the most legally violent spells available to her. He should probably never anger her. Ever.

Rose had been forced out of the duel almost immediatley after having stepped on the platform and it was not helped by the fact her sister now seemed to be emulating a lot of what Ravage had done to her - even if she was not exactly humiliating him she’d clearly learned it in the same way that Ravage had, from his older brothers, because the movements were there, and she wouldn’t doubt that Ravage would use such spells on her if he’d had half the chance. She frowned watching her sister, would she too treat Rose like this if they were duelling together? Would she also think Rose was weak too? Would she have wanted her to get off the platform as fast as possible just to prove a point. She didn’t feel like she was even worthy of having been in the duel now, and if she had one it would have been through sheer luck. She didn’t want to watch anymore, she wiped away the tears, dodged her dad and ran out of the hall.

Over the last few days Hugo had physically recovered from his horrific duel. however he was pretty sure it would take longer to mentaly recover from the ordeal of both his duel and Oz's before hand. Today was the next round and he was there to watch and suppport Oz. he was annoyed that oz had to fight again after all he had to put up with with theordore while horror who had almost killed him had a chance to relax and auomatically go through to the next round as though violent behavior was being rewarded. the duel started well. oz getting a few spells in.
However soon henia was casting spells that he would never have expected the sweet hufflepuff to know.
It reminded him too much of his duel against horror. He could almost feel the pain across his chest and in his head he wanted to curl up and run away and find somewhere safe. he could practically feel the dust all over his robes. Actually no, the dust was real as Hinata blew half the stage up and then dropped the shrapnel on top of Oz. "Oz. Your doing great. but step down. no duel is worth you getting yourself killed or blown up." he called fearing for his friends safety. Who seemed to have drawn the short straw twice . "let the H's fight each other next round." he called. it wasnt that he didnt think his friend could win. in a fair fight he had as much chance as anyone. but this wasnt fair. if someone was comfortable using those kind of spells against someone. it wasn't a duel to win, it had become a duel to not lose. And if he did lose the stakes were too high.

Oz was dreading having to go talk to professors after all of this. Mostly, he figured they were unlikely to say or do anything helpful. It felt a bit shameful to go to Professor Cade to say 'hey, one of your students harassed me in a really uncomfortable manner' and he wasn't sure the Gryffindor Head of House could (or would) do anything, and he felt almost certain he couldn't really talk to Professor Carter to say 'hey, maybe you should check in with Hinata because I mean I know it's dueling but maybe she should speak to a counselor or something'. Either way he figured he'd just get 'you're nearly an adult and that's dueling, deal with it'. If he didn't get dismissed as being childish first, that is.

He heard Hugo calling out and he knew that his friend was right, but Oz's stubborn pride was in the way. If he was going down, he was going down swinging. He tried to drop and roll out of the way of the debris, casting Confundo as he dropped and tried to move, hoping to do it all in some sort of fluid motion and make the most of Hinata's inhibited hearing. But Oz had misjudged the size of the debris. It smacked him in the back as he got near the ground, causing him to yell in agony, his legs to buckle underneath him and he fell face first, his cursing cut off as the top of his head hit the ground sharply. He went scarily still for a moment, his wand falling out of his grip as he briefly lost consciousness for a few seconds. Damn his pride.

Killian watched the two Hufflepuffs with one of his eyebrows raised. Sixth years that he taught, he never would have thought that this would have come out of the two he was currently watching. He kept thinking there was no way that the girl would drop - and she did. He moved over to push the debris out of the way, since it was truly no trouble for someone like him. He used his wand to fix the stage, and to reverse the damage done to the part-goblin. He wasn't a superb healer, but he wasn't a slouch either. He announced that Hinata was the winner, and figured that this was fine. It was definitely more interesting than watching second years. If he thought that someone was in true danger, Killian would have stepped in immediately.

Admittedly, Hinata didn't really expect the whole debris thing to work. And she may have made a yelp when Oz fell short of dodging. Why did he even dodge? He'd been shielding up to now? Wouldn't a shield have been better? She would have at least thought he'd Reducto the debris? That's what her friends did all the time - where else would she have gotten the penchant for it from? In any case, the debris was meant to be a distraction and well... okay, it was a weapon, but she'd thought at least he would have been more focused on destroying that than throwing a spell at her. Oh Merlin did she just kill Oz? She was sooooo going to kill Horror for having her sign up this year. As the proctor started to fix up Oz, Hina took the time to finally remove the Muffliato on herself before rushing over. "I-is he uh... is he g-gonna be okay?" she squeaked out. She was definitely going to spend the rest of their Hogwarts life sending anonymous flowers (because flowers make people feel better right and maybe it would count as an apology) and avoiding Oz.
