Professor Misha Haden had been a bit surprised to be asked to help out, he didn't often, but he didn't mind it. Though of course he was feeling a little more tired than usual with the boys keeping him awake. It was nice though, they were adorable. He looked at the two students whose duel he was overseeing. "Let's keep this clean," he said, before inviting them to get started.

Out of Character:

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Cyrus had been curious about the duelling tournament and he had decided to sign up to step a bit out of his comfort zone. His opponent was a Hufflepuff girl and he bowed to her. Then he cast his first spell. "Expelliarmus."

Sofi had entered the dueling tournament on a whim, and now that whim felt like a huge mistake. She stood facing Cyrus, nerves bubbling up so much she thought she might faint again. Bowing awkwardly, she opened her mouth to cast a spell, but nothing came out. Thankfully, she managed a last second block, barely avoiding getting knocked out in the first two seconds.

Then her mind went blank, completely and utterly blank, as if every spell she’d ever learned had flown right out of her brain. For a painfully long moment, she just stared at Cyrus before blurting, “Err…” She glanced around then in a fit of panic cast the spell she had just blocked because she couldn't think of any others. “Expelliarmus!”

Cyrus had seen some duels before and he always noticed they went pretty fast. But it took a long time for his opponent to cast a spell back, which made him wonder if he should go again or if that was considered rude. When she finally did, he quickly put up a shield. "Tarantallegra!" He cast back quickly.

[Ruth Thorne]

Ruth was pretty curious to see how the duels would go, to get a feel for the general skill level of people when it came to duels at the school. She thought she might like to try them, though she wasn't sure how well she'd do. More importantly, however, she wanted to support Cyrus, and so she'd taken up a seat in the duelling chamber and put blue ribbons in her hair to cheer her brother on. "Yeah, Cyrus! You got this!" she called out, wondering if she should have had a little flag to wave.

Sofi fumbled another defence, still not having inspiration for any other spell, she pointed her wand and said "Expell-" She stopped when someone shouted out supporting Cyrus, Sofi turned red in embarrassment then finished, "Expelliarmus!" She could do disarming and that might get her through.

[Morrie Ayre]

Still sulking from her own disqualification, Morrie initially showed up to her sister's duel purely for the entertainment, but when a younger Slytherin started cheering for Cyrus, Morrie was far too immature to let that one fly. She leaned forward and yelled, "Yeah, Sofi! Show them who's boss!" Her voice was louder and more obnoxious than necessary, and she added for good measure, "Cyrus doesn’t stand a chance!" She shot the first year a look of smug satisfaction.

Cyrus smiled when he heard Ruth cheering from the audience, though he made sure not to look away from his opponent. Sofi cast another disarming spell and Cyrus blocked it. He wondered if shew as just going to use that same spell the whole time. He winced when he heard someone cheering for Sofi loudly and tried to block it out. "Petrificus Totalus!" He cast.

Sofi’s mind was a complete fog. She could hear Morrie shouting her nane and she really wished she wouldn't because it only added to her stress. She shot a quick, panicked glance at her sister, unsure if she was genuinely cheering her on or not.

Momentarily distracted, she barely managed to jump out of the way when Cyrus cast Petrificus Totalus. She considered trying the same spell back, but she couldn't get the words to form properly in her mouth. She was far better to stick with what she knew. "Expelliarmus!" she called out again, hoping that it didn’t seem too obvious she was just repeating the same spell over and over.

Cyrus felt a little bad for Sofi, she didn't look like she was really enjoying this and seemed to be having a tough time. Still, he wasn't giving up even if he felt bad for her. He blocked yet another stunning spell from her and then cast a spell of his own again. "Stupefy!"

Sofi would quite like the duel to end, but she wasn’t about to give up without giving it a go first and not letting her nerves get the best of her. She blocked the incoming Stunning Spell and a lightbulb went off. How could she have forgotten about Stupefy? Sofi aimed her wand at Cyrus, her voice a little stronger this time and said, "Stupefy!"

Cyrus was glad Sofi did a different spell, but was also a little frustrated she was just copying him again. He blocked her spell and shot a quick Jelly-legs jinx back.

In a moment of lapse of concentration, the spell hit her, and immediately her legs gave out beneath her like they’d been turned to, well, jelly. She wobbled, her knees bending at odd angles whilst trying to stay upright. She managed another "Expelliarmus!" but at this point, it was barely on target.

Cyrus was surprised his spell hit though a little disappointed it didn't win him the match. Not yet, at least, as it didn't seem very hard to knock Sofi out at this point. He barely needed to step aside to dodge her spell. "Petrificus Totalus!" He cast.

The moment the second spell hit, she went from wobbly to completely stiff. Her frozen body leaned to one side and started to feel gravity's pull, until finally, she tipped fully. She landed with a thud on the ground with her wand clattering onto the floor beside her.
