And so they came to the final match of the day, the staff championship. Once again, Gabrielle felt a little out of her depth, but she put on a brave face about it and cleared her throat. "Welcome to the staff final! We have a very exciting match lined up, so let's not waste any more time." She looked between her two co-workers, nodding at each when she saw they were in their positions and ready to go. She had no doubt that they both knew what they were doing, as she'd seen from their earlier matches. "Alright? Go for it."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

James was ready for the final, he'd worked hard to get there and was ready to enjoy the moment. He bowed to his opponent before taking his spot, raising his wand and casting Levicorpus.

Kahurangi didn't know if she would ever get used to seeing former students return as colleagues, though at least James' return hadn't been quite so quick as some of the other teaching staff. (Including one she was particularly happy not to have had to deal with during the tournament.) He had actually had time to get out there and get some life experience. Unfortunately for her, that life experience was as an Auror. Kahurangi knew she was a good duellist, but she didn't know if she was good enough to face off against a professional. Still, all she could do was bring her A game and hope for the best, and there certainly wasn't any shame in losing to a former Auror, especially since she didn't even teach a subject that used wands. She kept her grip firm as she bowed to her opponent, opting to take a defensive strategy from the beginning, just as she had with Percival. She definitely wasn't going to count on being quicker on the draw than an Auror, instead opting to quickly bring a shield up and block his spell. Her best hope in this duel was going to be being underestimated, and hope that James hadn't seen her previous match. She opted to respond with a weak spell, hopefully letting him think less of her as she cast a simple; "Expelliarmus!"

James raised his wand quickly to block the spell fired at him from Professor Josephs. He had expected a defensive style from the Ancient Runes professor having had the benefit of seeing her previous duel. Once he had successfully blocked her spell with a shielding charm he raised his wand back at her to cast a babbling curse.

It was always best practice to feel out a new opponent before really showing them what you could do, and Kahurangi kept sharp eyes on her opponent as she pulled her shield up. She could tell he was taking it easy on her, and she was determined not to be the one who got caught off guard when their opponent changed tack. She began to move her wand as though she was going for a stunning spell, before quickly cutting the movement short and instead nonverbally conjured a large swarm of bees around her opponent, which quickly swarmed towards his face.

Bees? F***ing Bees? He couldn't believe Professor Josephs has conjured a swarm of bees at him, would a shielding charm even work against Bees? He raised his wand, aiming it at the swarm of bees heading for him "Evanesco," Once the bees had vanished he turned to cast another spell toward Professor Josephs, "Impedimentia,"

Kahurangi was pleasantly surprised that James seemed caught off guard, but she wasn't naiive enough to think it would be enough to take out someone so experienced. She was ready with a shield to block his next spell before conjuring again, this time thick clouds forming directly over her opponent's head and beginning to pelt him with hailstones the size of golf balls.

James lifted his eyebrow at the woman as he raised his wand and cast a shielding charm and held it like an umbrella as the golf ball sized hailstones bounced off it. She was getting creative and he was starting to enjoy. "I underestimated you Professor Josephs, Ancient Runes came to play," He laughed while he considered his next move, as some of the hailstones began to hit the ground around him he pointed his wand at them and cast "Depulso," banishing them back across the duelling table at their caster.

Having gone into this duel with no expectation of winning, Kahurangi was pleased to be holding her own decently - well enough to take James' notice. She gave a small laugh, but didn't let it distract her. "It's been years, I'm a bit rusty." She smiled, as with a flash of her wand she sent a wall of fire rushing towards her opponent, melting the hailstones in its path.

James smiled at Kahurangi's remark, if this was her rusty he'd hate to face her at full strength, he wouldn't admit it aloud but she was more than holding her own against him, they were evenly matched. She blocked his hail stones with an impressive wall of fire which gave him an idea, he raised his wand and fired a stream of water cutting through her wall of fire and heading straight for her then cast a shielding charm on the chance hitting or distracting her didn't dissipate her fire.

The disadvantage of there being fire in the way was that Kahurangi couldn't see clearly what James was going to counter her with, and she couldn't do anything more creative than pull up a quick shield, rather than doing anything interesting to redirect his spell. She wasn't going to be put off though, swiping low and turning the ground beneath James' feet to ice to knock him off balance, figuring it had been effective enough against Percival to be worth bringing out again.
