Gabrielle was quite excited to have the opportunity to proctor the duels this year. She so rarely got to see the students' spellwork in action and was very keen to see what they could do and what sort of tactics they would employ. The fourth years seemed to have a strong contingent of Slytherins and Gabrielle was quite interested to see what they'd do. "Alright, let's have a good, clean duel. The winner will proceed to the next round, so don't burn yourselves out just yet, okay? When you're ready, bow to your opponent and you may begin."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Lorenzo wasn’t one for willing using spells against his classmates, but dueling was such a classic experience of young wizards that he figured it would be something to do that would make his father proud, as long as he was successful. Taking his time to get on the platform, he listened to the professors instructions preparing himself before sending a spell. ”Furnunculus!”

Mischa didn't exactly have a great track record when it came to the dueling tournament, but he was sure this year was going to be different. He knew he could do it, it was just going to require a bit of hard work and good spell casting. So, he wasn't nervous as he stood on the platform, giving the other Slytherin a short bow before raising his wand. He was extra quick to put up a shield charm to block the first spell as well, only thinking for a second before firing back a quick Expelliarmus, hoping to just end this whole thing quickly.

Lorenzo blocked the spell Mischa had sent his way, surprised he hadn't just let himself be hit with it to be nice. As he raised his wand again, he sent back a bat bogey hex, something he was not really good at but had learned and wondered what it would look like to be truly successful.

The other boy wasn't going down without a fight, it seemed. Which was perfectly fine with Mischa. While winning easily would have been good, at least this way he could get a proper fight out of it. Once more he cast the shield charm before coming up with a quick jelly fingers curse to send back.

Enzo couldn't get himself together fast enough as his fellow Slytherin sent back a curse. He quickly moved to the right and held out his wand. "Reducto!"

Tempest was excited about getting to see her brother's duel. She really hoped he'd win, but at the same time, she was kind of indifferent. They had been told their whole lives to uphold these ideals and traditions, and now, their life was chaotic and uncertain, so uncertain that everything before seemed meaningless moving forward. Who cares if they lost or won? As long as Enzo was happy with the result, that was all that should matter. It felt weird to think all of that, and Tempest wouldn't dare say it out loud, even to herself.

As she took her seat, she watched the duel begin, rather quickly, and her brother threw a spell she'd never heard before. "Kick his butt, Enzo!"

Mischa just wanted to win. For once. It would be nice to finally make it past the first round, so he was concentrating more than usual one this, tightly gripping his wand as he managed another shield charm. "Stupefy!"

Enzo could feel himself starting to tire. He didn't realize putting so much energy spells and shield charms would exhaust him so quickly. Then again, he hadn't really ever practiced except for what he had done for class. The Slytherin held up his wand once more to block Mischa's spell, and he felt his feet lose their grip as the spell hit his shield. Bringing it down, he looked out at his sister and knew that he wanted to try to win one round, at least for her. "Confundo!"

It had been some time, so he he'd almost forgotten how fun this could be. And also how tiring it was to be flinging spells back and forth without any breaks. But he still felt like he had more left in him, once more managing to raise his wand to block the counter-attack. Though he supposed some strategy was in order, sending back a rather simple Locomotor Mortis, not wanting to tire himself out by using too many higher year spells so quickly.

Enzo frowned as Mischa blocked his spell but wasn't given much time before he had to block what was sent back. He barely comprehended what was sent to him before sending back another spell. "Stupefy!"

Mish was trying to stay light on his feet, though was managing to stay ahead of getting his shield up on time, ince more firing back with a quick Stupefy of his own.

Lorenzo blocked the Slytherin’s spell, and then, for some reason, sent the next spell out of his mouth. “Incendio,” he said. Why he was sending fire, he wasn’t sure as he didn’t want to actually hurt anyone. But he saw it headed straight for Mischa’s face and really hoped the boy blocked it.

When he saw fire heading right for his head, Mischa only just managed to make his brain work enough so he could duck right under it, letting the spell fly harmlessly over his head. "Are you trying to set me on fire?" He couldn't help but snap, tightening his grip on his wand as he did so. Fine, two could play at that game, narrowing his eyes as he pointed his wand right at him. "Diffindo!"

Enzo had a feeling he was too soft for this competition. If he had done it in his first year, he may have been more aggressive, but with everything that had happened in his life, especially recently, he just wanted to partake in something. But seeing Mischa dodge the fire, Enzo felt suddently felt really guilty and tried to respond before having to duck out of the way of his opponent's spell. "No, it was an accident!" he called out, genuinely apologizing. It felt weird to be conversing like this in a duel, but he did want to apologize. However, he knew that leaving too much time would be bad for the duel. "Uh, expelliarmus," he said, sending back the disarming spell, hoping Mischa understood it was all just an accident.

He had just come very close from getting himself cooked, and he wasn't just going to take that laying down. Or accept the lame 'apology' the other boy was offering him. How could it have been an accident? He was the one who decided to use that spell. There was no accident about it. At least the next one was easy enough to block, Mischa still feeling quite miffed about the whole thing as he sent back a Slug Vomiting Curse, hoping that might teach the other boy a lesson about trying to set him on fire.

Enzo was worried Mischa was still miffed about the fire spell, which was in fact a total accident. His brain just froze. Enzo blocked Mischa's spell again, and sent a jelly fingers curse, hoping maybe the Slytherin would just drop his wand.

Mish just had more of a vendetta and need to win this duel now, huffing as he once more managed to protect himself from the next spell, keeping his eyes narrowed as he shot back with a jelly-legs jinx.

Lorenzo felt like Mischa was just mocking him now by sending back a similar spell. So, after blocking his classmate's curse, Enzo sent back the jelly legs jinx.

He was desperate not to let the other boy win after he had tried to set his face on fire. "Wot, can't come up with your own spells now?" He shot back after blocking the exact same spell he had just sent out. The longer this duel went on, the more and more annoyed he was getting. So, if only to be petty, he once more decided to cast a jelly-legs jinx.

Enzo was confused by his classmate's refusal to accept his apology. It was making him very frustrated, and Enzo blocked the incoming spell, feeling his arm shake. “It’s not like you own all the spells,” he said, but sending back a basic stunning spell.
