Gabrielle was quite excited to have the opportunity to proctor the duels this year. She so rarely got to see the students' spellwork in action and was very keen to see what they could do and what sort of tactics they would employ. She knew both of these students were rather clever and wasn't ready to discount either of them if their spellwork was anywhere near as impressive as their theory. "Alright, let's have a good, clean duel. The winner will proceed to the next round, so don't burn yourselves out just yet, okay? When you're ready, bow to your opponent and you may begin."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Dorian hadn't exactly made the best showing at the duelling tournament last year. He knew he was a perfectly competent wizard, but something about having to prove as much infront of all his peers had caused him to falter early. He was determined not to let it bother him this year and had been doing an excellent job of it right up until he was facing Anisha on stage. Of course it had to be her. The one person best at getting under his skin. Gripping his wand, Dorian gave her a tense bow before straightening up and launching a disarming charm at her before she could get a chance to do anything annoying.

Anisha had been looking forward to the duelling tournament the whole year and she was glad it was finally here. Anisha was prepared to defend her title as reigning champion for her yeargroup. She had been delighted to see who she would go up against first, and she gave Dorian a confident grin as he bowed to her. She gripped her wand tightly as she inclined her head instead of bowing. "You're lucky to get a front-row seat for my first win this year." She told him sweetly. He was fast with his first spell, but Anisha managed to barely clock it. She blew out a breath, then shot a stunning spell back.

Dorian couldn't help but scoff at Anisha's comment, though it was short lived as he was forced to throw up a shield charm before her stunning spell had a chance to hit. "You're awfully confident," he said disapprovingly before hurling back a jelly-legs jinx. It was so typical of her to think one win under her belt unequivalently meant she was the best.

Anisha grinned at his grumpy comment, blocking Dorian's spell. "I have no reason not to be." She said with a laugh, before she cast her next spell: the antler jinx.

Dorian frowned at Anisha's response, resisting rolling his eyes only because he had to focus on blocking her spell instead. "Winning once in your first year doesn't prove anything but a fluke," he explained shortly before responding with a jelly-brain jinx. Maybe this way Anisha's brain could match her ego if it hit.

Anisha grinned. "Actually-" she started, before putting up a shield charm for his spell. "I won three times." She shot a Knee-reversing hex his way. "You wouldn't know this, but if you win your duel they let you duel more than one time." She added with a smirk.

Dorian gripped his wand, doing his best to school his face into a neutral mask, though the effect was ruined somewhat when he was forced to dodge out of the way on Anisha's spell, mind spinning furiously in search of a response when he should have been focusing on the duel. It was bad enough when he let anyone get under his skin, but Anisha was the worst. She managed to uniquely bug him and he never seemed to be able to return the favour. "It doesn't count when you're duelling a bunch of 12 year olds who don't know what they're doing," he shot back."Incendio!"

Anisha knew she was getting to Dorian, and it was great. This was a good tactic, she was sure. She grinned as he had to dodge her next spell, sure she was getting the upperhand here. His retort actually made her laugh, which nearly made her too late to block his spell. The fire felt warm, even through her shield. "You realize that makes you sound even more pathetic for losing last year, right?" She called back to him. "Tarantallegra!"

Dorian glowered at Anisha as she had the outright gall to laugh. Like they were sitting around joking and not actually duelling here. "Of course you would take it that way, your ego gets in the way of common sense," he said sourly, making sure to pointedly block her jinx this time, flicking his wand away in agitation before leveling it harshly back her to return fire. Why did she always twist his words in ways that made him look stupid? "Locomotor Mortis!"

Anisha couldn't believe how bad Dorian was making himself look. Saying Anisha wasn't impressive for winning something hehad lost was just so funny. "It's what you said!" She added, blocking his spell with a quick flick of her wand. "If me winning wasn't impressive, you losing must be extra sad." She then finally cast her own spell, realizing she had been waiting a bit long to taunt him. "Stupefy!"

It had been unsurprising to see Anisha win the duelling tournament last year; she tended to be the best at everything she did, that was just how Anisha was. Still, it was fun to see her doing well in matches, even more so when Raafe got to watch her destroy an opponent verbally and magically without much effort. Raafe made sure to golf clap loudly every time Anisha fended off one of Dorian's spells, just to add to the effect.

Ezra was here to support Dorian and he had winced when he saw who his opponent was. If Anisha beat him, Ezra knew he'd never hear the end of it. He glanced over at someone nearby who kept clapping and saw it was Anisha's cousin. Of course he was here too, Ezra was surprised he wasn't on the platform just behind her. Still, he had nothing against the guy, and Ezra held up a hand in greeting. "Hey, supporting too?"

Dorian didn't know how anyone could be so full of themselves without actually realizing it, Anisha really was something else. But it seemed like trying to talk to her, as usual, was getting him no where. "You're insufferable," he said shortly, blocking her spell with a scowl. "Stupefy!"

Anisha grinned as she blocked Dorian's spell. "You're just running out of comebacks- and original spells too, are you copying me?" She joked, then she cast one of her own, choosing to cast the Jelly Fingers curse.

Dorian sputtered at Anisha's response, wrinkling his nose in annoyance, the urge to argue with her quickly winning over his previous plan to just ignore her. "I'm not copying you," he started, "It's a duel not an art project-" He realized too late that the duelling platform was possibly the worst place to try and argue, stumbling around his sentence to spit out the words for his shield charm too late, grimacing as the spell glanced off his shoulder as he tried to scramble aside. It didn't even take a second for the jinx to take affect and despite his best efforts to hold on to his wand Dorian could only watch with dismay as his fingers wibbled and wobbled until his wand clattered on the floor. "Whatever," he said with a huff, furious to realize he couldn't even clench his fists in frustration and moved to jam under his armpits instead as he waited for the professor to call his stupid mistake.

Anisha beamed as she saw her spell had hit Dorian, and she downright cheered when he dropped his wand. "Woo!" She said, jumping off the podium and running to the audience to give her cousin a high five.

Raafe glanced away from the match for a moment when Ezra Ito came to sit next to him, humming thoughtfully at his question as he glanced between the duel on stage and Ezra for a second. “Nah, I just kind of wandered in here right when Anisha started duelling. Truly miraculous timing,” Raafe said simply, turning his head when he heard Dorian insult Anisha only for her to verbally slap him down yet again. Poor guy, Raafe had learnt long, long ago that no one could go toe to toe with her in a verbal battle, let alone one where she was also armed with a wand too.

Looks like you have good timing too,” he offered to Ezra with a shrug when Anisha quickly finished wiping the floor with Dorian, standing up to make it easier to return Anisha's well deserved high-five. @Ezra Ito

Anisha was a determined young lady, and Gabrielle noted with some amusement her tendency to duel as much with her words as she did with her spells. It did seem to get under Dorian's skin, although he certainly tried to give as good as he got. Eventually, though, it seemed to prove too much. "Anisha Khatri is the winner of this duel," she announced, quickly moving over to Dorian to help put his hands right and make sure he was okay. "Well done, both of you." Although first with the second years and now this one, Gabrielle couldn't help but wonder if maybe they should have been doing more as a school to try and not have the children hate each other. Maybe try and have more house point rewards for things that didn't involve potential grievous bodily harm (beyond homework). She just wondered how bad the seventh years would be.
