@Santiago Torres vs @Tempest Vero

Killian proctored one of these students already, but that was going to happen since more than two per year signed up. Second years were bound to be boring, regardless. He motioned for each of the students to stand at the opposite end of the stage. "Whoever wins this heads to the finals. Don't do anything stupid to get disqualified, or afterward if you lose. So, bow to your opponent and begin." Killian heard what happened with Gabrielle, and he didn't want to have to deal with that if he could help it.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Santiago was still in shock after beating June. He really hadn't expected to win but it felt good. As he took to the platform for the next duel he felt a little more confident as he bowed to Tempest. "Stupefy!" he cast quickly, hoping to maybe catch her by surprise.

Tempest was sumpremly glad she had won the first duel, but she had been puzzled by the fact that June had lost hers. How Tempest was now the only Slytherin from their year left in the tournament against three Gryffindors was beyond her. She had assumed that she and June would make it to the final duel, and while she hoped to beat her roommate, she did think she would come in second to her, as June was much more disciplined than Tempest. However, this fluke allowed Tempest to gain an edge on her friend, something she hoped would make her feel more even with her friend as she worked to get her grades up.

As Professor Borisyuk gave rather passive directions, Tempest looked across the platform at her opponent. She had never spoken to Santiago, as they had only had a few classes together, but if he had beat June, Tempest needed to be ready so she could make sure the same thing did not happen to another Slytherin. The Gryffindor threw the first spell, and Tempest confidently blocked it with a shield charm. "Petrificus Totalus," she replied.

Santiago was ready for Tempest's spell and was able to get a shield charm up just in time. He was still trying to find his rhythm against a new appointment and readjusted the grip on his wand before firing off his next spell. "Expelliarmus!"

Tempest wasn’t surprised that Santiago was just as ready to block a spell as she was. “Protego,” she said, blocking the spell swiftly. She barely thought before sending back a knee reversing hex.

Santiago had thought June was fast and he wasn't sure if he was just tired but Tempest seemed even faster. He was slow on the uptake and he ended up dodge out of the way of her spell that would have been very uncomfortable. But he quickly straightened and waved his wand. "Expelliarmus!" he cast next. Knowing if it hit it'd be over.

Tempest snickered when Santiago missed blocking her spell, which contributed to her almost being hit this next time. She was not going to let something as simple as a disarming spell be her downfall. The Slytherin waved her wand to cast a shield and could feel spell hit, causing her hand to shake just a little. Grimacing, she waved her wand again. "Everte Statum!" If he wanted to move around the platform, maybe he'd willing to fly off.

Santiago felt his face flush as he heard Tempest laugh. He grit his teeth and was sure to be ready for her next spell. He was pleased when he saw her have to shake out her hand after his last spell. But he was a little too pleased and she moved faster than expected and the spell crashed into him before he had a chance to block it. One moment he had been standing and the next he was flying backwards and landed flat on his back. He considered trying to get to his feet but the wind was completely knocked out of him. It felt like a bad fall from his skateboard but this was worse. So much worse and in front of the whole school.

Killian watched as the duel carried on, and it was a lot of back and forth, until the Slytherin girl blasted the Gryffindor boy completely off stage. The lad seemed all right, just a little winded. He gestured with his hand to signal that the duel was over, "Tempest Vero is the winner, and will advance to the finals."

Tempest was ready for Santiago to send back his next spell when she saw his feet sail off the platform, and she watched as he humiliated himself with her assistance. Tempest grinned as Professor Borisyuk declared her the winner and giggled with excitement. She took took one more moment to look back at Santiago and made eye contact, winking before flipping her hair as she made her way off the platform to Enzo, giving him a big hug. She didn't expect herself to get this far, and all she had to do was beat one more lowly Gryffindor.
