Yvonne stepped up to the dueling platform and greeted the students with a warm smile. She was pleased to be back proctoring the tournament again and was looking forward to seeing how the students would do. It was a good way to show off what they had learned in their lessons after all and with the older students it was bound to get interesting. "Welcome to this year's tournament." she said brightly. "The winner of this round will be moving on to the next. Be sure to keep things fair and no funny business or you will be disqualified." Yvonne added trying to seem stern with most likely mixed results. "Now you may face your opponent and bow before beginning. Good luck to you both!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Jingyi had managed to win the tournament last year, and he was hopeful he might be able to do it again. Though from the looks of things it would be tough as it was Genevieve he was facing in the first round. But that didn't mean he wasn't still confident about it. He listened to the Professor before offering the other Gryffindor a quick bow, wasting no time in raising his wand, "Stupefy!"

Evie was excited for another duelling tournament, hoping she could do well this year. She was ecstatic that her first duel would be with Jingyi. She bowed to him when instructed, and let him go first. "Protego!" she said with a flick of her wand, blocking his first spell. She then sent the jelly-legs jinx his way.

He hadn't expected Genevieve to go down easy, so he wasn't all too shocked when she managed to block his first spell. A part of him would have been disappointed if she hadn't. Instead, he grinned, raising his wand to block her comeback before firing back with a quick Confundo.

Evie promised herself she would stay focused throughout this duel. She was quick to block the boy's next spell and hesitated a little before casting another, hoping it would put him off. "Muffliato!" she exclaimed, pointing her wand directly at him.

Dueling was almost like dancing in a way, there was a rhythm to things that Jingyi quite liked. A back and forth made it easier to concentrate. So he was always caught off guard when something happened to break the rhythm, like someone hesitating for a moment. He was actually early with the shield charm, already anticipating a spell coming straight back at him. So he was surprised when it actually took a moment for one to come. Thankfully, he hadn't been stupid enough to drop his shield early, letting out a short breath before aiming back across the platform, "Impedimentia!"

Genevieve watched as the boy easily blocked her spell. Why hadn't she tripped him up yet? She was a little frustrated that her hesitating hadn't done anything to distract him. She opened her mouth to say something until the spell hit her square in the chest. "Hhhh-eee-yyy!" she exclaimed, her eyes widening as she realised the spell had slowed down her talking and her movements. Furrowing her eyebrows, she slowly raised her right arm and pointed her wand at Jingyi again. "Re-duc-to."

Jingyi was actually pretty surprised that his spell managed to hit. But, as far as he was concerned, that meant the duel was as good as over. So long as he kept up the pressure and didn't give her a chance to cast finite, there was no way she could block or dodge every spell when she was so slowed down. So he quickly raised his wand again. Nowhere in the rules did it say he had to wait for a return spell, taking the opportunity that she was slowed down to aim, "Expelliarmus!" His spell left his wand about a fraction of a second before the other Gryffindor's. Which meant he had little time to put up a shield, having to quickly dart off to the side to avoid being hit. But that also meant she would have little time to react as well, or so he hoped.

Genevieve was a little surprised when she saw a spell come out of Jingyi's wand before the shield charm. She had no choice but to step out of the way. She was extremely close to being hit, but narrowly missed it. "Phhheew." she said out loud, completely relieved. She was surprised that Jingyi was putting up such a challenge. Taking a deep breath, she composed herself a little before slowly sending the conjunctivitis curse his way.

It was unbelievable how annoying the other girl was being about this. Why wouldn't she just admit defeat already? Jingyi offered a scowl as she still managed to dodge out of the way of his next spell. Huffing, he easily managed to put up another shield to protect himself from her next attempt before firing back with a rather annoyed Slug Vomiting curse.

Genevieve frowned as the boy seemed to be getting frustrated. She didn't mean to make him annoyed. He easily blocked her spell and Evie just knew she had to keep pushing on. Luckily, the effects of impedimentia didn't last forever, and after a little hesitation, Evie beamed as she managed to block the curse flying towards her, and sent the jelly legs jinx back.
