@Celia Vuong vs @Caleb Thorne

Round one thankfully hadn't been too rowdy this year, with the exception of some of the upper year students, and Angel was grateful he wasn't spending 20 minutes cleaning up slugs today. Once the two competitors seemed ready, Angel directed them up to their places at opposite ends of the platforms before addressing them and the crowd. "Welcome to your final round of duelling, you should know what you're doing by now so let's keep it clean. The victor will be crowned the winner of their year level so you know the stakes. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.
The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Celia hadn't been that worried about her duel with Valeria, but she was still glad she'd defeated the girl. Now she just had one more duel before she could claim the championship title. Still, a small part of her wished there were more people from her class competing. Celia actually enjoyed dueling, and she was a little disappointed that the tournament this year only had two rounds. While looking over this year's bracket, she'd noticed that Louis hadn't signed up, and she couldn't help wondering if his decision had something to do with her.

Professor Castillo was once again her proctor, which was a bit annoying since she usually had some choice words for Caleb during their duels. She knew he would be a tougher opponent than Valeria, but she was still confident she could win this. She'd already beaten him three times; she could do it again. At Castillo's signal, Celia bowed before launching a "Confringo!" straight towards Caleb. The explosion charm had worked well for her last round, and she was immensely curious to find out what exactly happened when a person was hit directly with it.

Caleb was feeling nice and loose as he stepped up to the dueling platform. He hadn't been thrilled to sit out of the first round but he was glad to be fresh going up against Celia once again. He shot her a smug grin as Professor Castillo spoke and hoped his casual attitude would annoy her like he hoped it would. He bowed and wasn't surprised she got off the first shot. Always something to prove. But Caleb was ready and cast a shield charm with ease before firing off a spell of his own. "Diffindo!"

Just the sight of Caleb's stupid face was enough to annoy Celia. She couldn't wait to wipe his smug grin off with a curse or three. Celia was irritated, but not surprised, when Caleb managed to fend off her first spell, and she was ready with a shield charm to block his counterattack. She immediately followed it up with an "Incarcerous!"

Caleb almost chuckled as he saw ropes suddenly coming his way and he cast another cutting spell and they fell uselessly around him. With his grin still intact he cast a slug vomiting curse back at her just to keep things interesting.

Celia had dueled Caleb enough times by now to know that his Slug Vomiting Curse was just an attempt to annoy her. Mindful of Professor Castillo's presence, she bit back a sarcastic remark and instead gave Caleb a disdainful look as she cast a shield charm. Then Celia sent back a jet of Gubraithian flames, slashing her wand through the air in a wide arcing motion. She was technically aiming for Caleb, but if any of the rope lying at his feet caught fire instead, well, she wouldn't complain.

Caleb was getting into the rhythm of their back and forth, and cast a shield charm to block the not unimpressive flames that came right for him. He felt flushed from the heat of the spell but didn't miss a beat before casting his next spell. "Langlock!"

It was a shame that neither Caleb nor the rope caught fire. Maybe one day she'd learn how to create fiendfyre. Surely sentient fire couldn't be stopped by something as trivial as a basic shield charm. In the meantime, she'd just have to make do. Celia quickly blocked the oncoming spell and sent back a Tongue-Tying Curse, carefully watching Caleb's reaction as she did so. There was a chance he knew how to do nonverbal magic, and she didn't want to be caught off-guard if that was the case.

Caleb wasn't surprised that Celia blocked his spell. It would have to be a stroke of dumb luck to get one up on her so soon. But when she didn't immediately cast her next spell he was instantly on edge. Thankfully he had been hyper aware and was able to cast a shield once he saw the spell coming at him. His heart was racing after such a quick move. "Tricky tricky." he chided playfully before pausing for beat. He knew she was likely to pull some nonverbal magic at some point and now he was expecting it. Then as quickly as he could he raised his wand and cast a stinging hex right back.

It took all of Celia's willpower not to roll her eyes at him. But what was more annoying was that she still couldn't quite tell if Caleb had blocked the spell because he simply didn't want to get hit or if he'd been forced to block it because he was incapable of nonverbal magic. She was leaning towards the latter theory since the spells he was sending her way weren't exactly that advanced. The pause made Celia narrow her eyes in suspicion, and she hurried to block the hex when it finally came her way. Then she threw back another "Confringo!" this time aiming for the platform under Caleb's feet. Celia knew she had a certain style when it came to dueling, and while she would have loved to hit him dead-on, she didn't want to be too predictable.

Caleb was hyper aware of Celia's movements now since she brought out some of her nonverbal magic. He didn't feel strong enough with it to use it in a duel yet but it was nice to know his reflexes were awake. He nearly rolled his eyes as she cast another exploding spell and he had to take a step forward to cast his shield to block it. She was aiming for the ground but he wasn't knocked off his feet that easily. "You're getting predictable." he groaned before casting his next spell. "Levicorpus!"

Celia smirked a little when he groaned and was forced to move to block her spell. It wasn't the same as blasting him to pieces, but she would take her victories where she could get them. She knew (much to her irritation) that Caleb was unlikely to go down easily. She blocked his spell with a lazy flick of her wand before sending back a Canary Transfiguration Hex. Celia wished she knew how to transfigure him into a more unpleasant creature, one that really suited him, but sadly her transfiguration skills were not advanced enough for that.

Caleb was grateful that he was as well rested as he was. Even after diving during the last round he felt good. He was at least glad Celia was pulling out something new and he cast a shield charm with ease before sending one right back lightening quick. "Diffindo!"

Celia was disappointed not to see Caleb turn into a giant bird and drop his wand. It would've been a fun way to beat and humiliate him. She quickly blocked his spell, wondering why he was so intent on trying to cut her. She didn't take it personally, though, since she'd been throwing what were arguably much more violent spells at him. Celia flung another "Confringo!" at the platform underneath Caleb. Even if it didn't blast him off his feet, maybe she could wear him out by forcing him to constantly move to meet her spells.

Caleb did roll his eyes this time when she sent yet another exploding charm at his feet. This time it hit but he took a few large steps back as the platform cracked in front of him and got dust on his shoes. "I'm starting to get bored." he groaned and shot back a babbling hex.

The explosion was satisfyingly loud, and Celia couldn't help a smile as a large plume of dust arose. It hadn't been enough to send Caleb flying, but it had forced him back several feet. Eager to press her advantage, Celia took several steps forward and swiftly blocked his hex. She then aimed another "Confringo!" at the platform, pouring even more energy and concentration into the spell. She didn't care if Caleb found it repetitive. She wanted a bigger, more destructive explosion. Eventually, one of her explosion charms would hit him, or he'd run out of platform to stand on. Personally, Celia was hoping for the former.
