@Celia Vuong vs @Valeria Iglesias

Angel stretched as he stepped up to the duelling platform, motioning to the two students to join him at opposite ends before surveying the crowd. Content everyone looked ready, he addressed the gathered students. "Welcome to your first round of duelling, let's have a nice clean duel today. The victor will be able to continue on to the rest of the tournament, and the loser will sadly be eliminated. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.
The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

After the disaster that was the past year, Celia just wanted one win. For once, she just wanted things to go her way — no pyrrhic wins, no unexpected losses. Just a straightforward victory. Was that really too much to ask for? She didn't think so. And yet, lately, it seemed as if the entire universe was conspiring against her.

Jaw set, Celia stepped onto the dueling platform. She tried to remind herself that this wasn't like Quidditch; her ability to win this tournament didn't depend on a bunch of incompetent teammates. Still, she felt a flutter of nerves. Professor Castillo wasn't her first choice when it came to proctors. She just had to beat Valeria so completely and wholly that there was no doubt as to who the winner was. At his signal, Celia bowed and raised her wand. "Confringo!"

Valeria knew she had no way in hell of winning this. She would have fun with it though, she always had fun with the duels even if she didn't win them. She was quick to block the spell that raced towards her, the heft of it hitting her protego harshly. Val resumed her stance and held her wand tightly before casting the Conjunctivitis curse.

It dimly occurred to Celia that perhaps she shouldn't have used such a violent spell in front of Professor Castillo. But he didn't intervene, which she took to mean that throwing explosion charms directly at your opponent was perfectly acceptable. Celia blocked Valeria's curse with a practiced flick of her wand before throwing back a stream of Gubraithian flames. She'd always had an affinity for fire charms.

Valeria just barely managed to block Celia's spell, a little concerned that she was well out of her depth for this. She didn't hesitate in throwing back a Babbling curse. Not as violent as the spells that Celia had sent thus far.

Valeria seemed to struggle to block her spell, but Celia wasn't about to let her guard down. After all, it only took one mistake to lose a duel. She quickly summoned a shield to stop the oncoming curse before pointing her wand directly at Valeria and retaliating with another forceful spell, wanting to press her advantage. "Reducto!"

Valeria dodged out the way of the spell sent her way, and it found its mark behind her. She just sent back an instant scalping hex

Celia felt a surge of adrenaline as she forced Valeria to dodge out of the way. That was one of the things she had always enjoyed about dueling, that it gave her power over others. She blocked Valeria's hex, frowning as she did so. Was the Ravenclaw trying to humiliate her? Celia sent back an "Incarcerous," figuring that the mass of flying ropes would be harder to dodge than a jet of light.

Valeria just felt a little out of her depth, trying her best, but she just had to duck and dodge out the way of the ropes. She cast quickly back, "Langlock," though the spell was weak.

Celia was a little irritated when Valeria managed to avoid the ropes, though she took the constant dodging to be a good sign. She quickly cast a shield charm, noting the way Valeria's spell fizzled weakly against the barrier. Was she getting tired already? Celia flung back another "Confringo!" This time, she aimed for the platform underneath Valeria — not out of mercy, but rather because she thought she had a better chance at destabilizing the Ravenclaw if she aimed for the platform.

Valeria was flung back as the spell hit the ground in front of her. The wand clattered out of her hand and definitely didn't enjoy that, but she knew when she'd had enough.

Angel hadn't expected anything different, but the duel with Celia and Valeria had still be rather vicious. Perhaps more one-sidedly so. As the platform exploded, Angel winced, spotting Valeria disarmed and on the ground as the dust settled. "Celia Vuong is the winner," he announced, before shuffling over to check Valeria still had all her fingers and toes before sending her to checked over by the nurse.
