Professor Tobias Blade sat at his desk, glancing over the familiar rows of parchment and a half-filled teacup beside him. The third years began filtering in—quieter than the first years, which he appreciated. His robes were charcoal today, modest and worn, much like the man himself. As the last student settled, Blade rose with a slow breath and stepped to the front of the room.

"Alright. Let’s get started." He cast a brief glance across the room, the corners of his mouth twitching ever so slightly into something resembling a smile. "I'm Professor Blade. You’ll be with me through to fifth year—assuming you make it that far." There was a bit of dry humor in his tone, but his eyes were kind. "You chose this subject. That tells me you’re ready to take your spellwork seriously, and I’m here to make sure you get the tools to do that."

With a flick of his wand, the chalkboard behind him filled with a tidy list of spells. "Today’s lesson is simple. Group up—no more than two or three per group—and start reading through the charms listed on the board. Take notes, write down questions, and come to me if something doesn’t make sense." He looked around the room as students began shifting into groups. "We start casting next week, and I don’t want any of you walking in unprepared."

He paused, voice lowering slightly, more sincere now. "I also want to speak with each of you individually—either today during class or sometime this week. My office is open from breakfast until dinner. Stop by so we can talk about what you want out of this class—and how I can help get you there." Blade gave a firm nod and returned to his desk, picking up his tea and watching the room with quiet attention. "That’s all for today. Use the time well."

When Eoghan was a first year, he was quite sure he'd made Susie feel stupid during one of their trivia sessions. It had all started during a game of truth or dare that had gotten way out of hand, resulting in Eoghan, Tori and Susie attempting to revive the questioning amongst themselves. By their third year however, Eoghan had come to realise that Susie was actually quite smart, only she may have had her own strange way of doing things. These days, Susie was one of his best friends, so he'd already planted himself in between Susie and Lilith when they'd come in for their first Charms lesson of the year. It was still strange that Tori was gone for another whole semester, but he'd support her doing what she needed to, and only hoped she really would be back next year.

When the professor told them to get into groups to go through the Charms they'd be learning over the next few weeks, it was obvious who he would work with. He glanced between the girls, glad for the opportunity to be able to work with both of them. "What do you think he wants to talk about with us one on one?" he asked them both between note taking, a little concerned given no other professor wanted to chat before the next lesson.

@Lilith Ilves @Susie Lagowski

Lilith was quite glad she'd worked out the little assignment Professor Pirrip had given her during the holidays. It had taken some time and she couldn't have imagined doing it all while also trying to do everything for her lessons. She sat happily next to Eoghan who'd planted himself between her and Susie, it was weird not having Tori around but she had full faith the Gryffindor would be back next year. If not she'd have to drag her back herself, or something just as lovely.

Taking notes, including every charm listed up, Lilith made sure to pay attention to what the Professor was saying. She'd been a bit sad o have Professor Grayveson gone, but she supposed the new Professor should be just as good. And so far the mans seeming wittiness was a fun start. When they were told to get into pairs or groups the trio formed a group quickly. Lilith was writing notes when Eoghan asked a question so the third year raised her gaze to her boyfriend and then to Susie before eventually glancing at the Professor. She had no idea what he Professor would want to chat about exactly but she had her guesses. "Well given he is a new Professor I'd imagine he'd want to get to know us a bit and see if there's anything we need from him as our Professor, considering he only just began teaching us. However I have no clue if its that or something else entirely." Lilith kept her tone quiet, only for her friends to hear. As the lesson finished up the Ravenclaw gave a quick smile and wave to the professor, deciding to take the opportunity to chat with him later on in the week.

Susie had been sad to hear that Professor Grayveson was leaving. She had always been so nice - no other professor was going to be anywhere near as good. Still, she was curious about the new one. Maybe he'd be really funny, or kind, or just super-strict. It didn't make much difference to her. She'd never been in any real trouble.

At this point, it was a given that she, Lilith, and Eoghan would be sitting together. They were basically best friends. Susie did sometimes wonder whether they'd only started hanging out with her because they felt sorry for her, but if that was the case to begin with, she was pretty sure it wasn't now.

The professor seemed okay. Not too strict or too laid back. When he told them to get into groups, Susie simply rotated her chair a bit, so she could talk to her friends more easily. "Maybe it's a careers thing," she suggested, after Lilith had finished. That was the only other idea she had. She jotted down the spells on the blackboard, looking them up in her book as she went. They all seemed quite useful.
