The Sorting Ceremony

The journey to New Zealand from France had been quite pleasant and it was made all the better by the fact that Aveline had spent the journey with her sisters. The three of them walked into the hall together, hand in hand, and waited amongst the other first years to be sorted. Aveline would be the last of the triplets to be sorted so she whispered "good luck" to her sisters as they left her to find out the house they would be spending their time in during the duration of their time at Hogwarts.

She watched nervously as Amelie got sorted into Ravenclaw and Arielle into Gryffindor. She was sad to see her sisters split up but she knew that they would love their respective houses. Aveline had no idea where she would be sorted and it was daunting to think that, for the first time ever, she would be without her sisters. She took a deep breath once her name was called and walked up to the stool and took a seat before the hat was placed on her head.

Benjamin walked into the Great Hall and instantly looked over the other end of the hall where he assumed his siblings would be sat. He waved and threw a little thumbs up at them while the hat was singing it's song. However, he paid full attention again once it had finished and the student's names were beginning to be called out. He shuffled his feet as he waited for his name to be called out; Walden was very far down the list and he was eager to find out where he would be sorted.

"Walden, Benjamin"

Soon enough it was his turn and he walked up to the front of the hall and sat down on the stool. He quickly glanced at his siblings again and shot them a worried look as the hat was placed on his head and fell down over his eyes. He breathed in deeply as he waited for the hat's verdict.

She was excited for the first part of arriving at the Hogwarts Express Station but when Yvette found out that none of her relatives will be attending Hogwarts New Zealand anymore because of some problem, her mood change quickly. Up to when she and Noelle went to grab a compartment to coming to the castle on boats, her expression was still dark. The dark haired young girl has to go back to square one. Meeting new people to survive her seven years in her new school. A sigh came out of her mouth as the huge double doors to the said Great Hall was open and two straight lines of new students marched on inside. Noelle on her side. It was an awkward moment for the two. No one decided to struck a conversation while they were on their way to Hogwarts.

Maybe he can feel I was furious She thought. As the group made to the front. They were greeted by a woman who's vibe so strong and as the whole unfolds, one by one, new students were sorted into their new houses and as it came to their time to get sorted. Noelle went first and was happy to his house. Yvette clapped slightly while she was called upon. "Maxwell, Yvette!" Said the woman in blonde. The dark haired girl proudly walked up front and sat at the stool provided. She wanted to be with her brother but she knows that will get old for him and didn't want Noelle to ignore her. All she wanted was to have a house that has great people and mentors that will mold her to be the greatest. Yvette waited as the hat was placed upon her head ...

Sage was excited, she had barely been able to the sleep the night before she was due to board the train to Hogwarts. Though her parents were not magical her two elder sisters had both attended the school before her so Sage had not been too surprised when her letter arrived, though part of her did wonder for a long time if magic had only blessed her siblings and skipped her. It had come as a big relief when that was proved not to be the case. The train ride had been nice and peaceful which was just how Sage liked it which gave her plenty of time to acclimate to her new surroundings and she had still got the chance to meet a few new people before she arrived at the castle.

Hogwarts was just as magical as Olivia had always described, whenever Victoria talked about the school it was always more focused on the outside and the direction of the Quidditch pitch. In time Sage hoped she would become well acquainted with the grounds though she wasn't sure she would take to Quidditch quite as well her eldest sister. Sage fell in line with the other students and quietly waited even as the others around her talked among themselves. In light of such a big change in her life, Sage felt she needed to take the time to contemplate and breathe before she went into the Great hall to learn her sorting fate. There would be time for her to talk to classmates once she was inside.

Soon the talking quieted down as they were led into the Great hall and down between the tables where the sorting hat waited for them. Sage wasn't nervous about her destination. She only really knew about her sister's houses Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Victoria never seemed to show much house pride outside of sport but Olivia always seemed so proud to be a Ravenclaw. The only mention of the other two was when Sage learned Olivia dated a girl in Gryffindor but Olivia never told her what made her a Gryffindor in between her constant gushing. Finally, it was Sage's turn as her name was read out for all to hear. She instinctively looked around before realising she was all alone. In all the excitement it had escaped her that Olivia had been a part of the recent graduating class. No one in the crowd really cared where she ended up. It was just her.

Baltair tried never to stand out. It was a fundamental rule when he was growing up. His family had always been pressured into not being the one picked in the crowd, mostly it was from his grandmother disliking the small children making noise around the house and since her death most of his siblings had moved out of that phase, but Baltair, he never did. It was a fundamental element of his personality, standing in shadows, never standing out, being one with the group, all for the sake of keeping in line with his family. He didn't want to be the one to step up and make himself noticed, his sisters were doing a fine job of that themselves, his problem now was figuring out his true place in this new world Isla had forced them into. Parker was a little different and seeing his older brother in charge did change some things for him, but even that made it hard for Baltair to keep his head up, he just didn't now what to do in most situations.

His name was called and he tentatively stepped forward. He was fine on his own, or amongst people he knew, but in crowds of strangers? No way. Baltair moved cautiously to the chair and waited as he felt the weight of the hat on his head, like his entire life was about to be decided in this moment. "Oh Merlin, I have so many regrets!"

Noelle was excited to be finally in Hogwarts. Although, he would not be seeing any relatives during their stay in Hogwarts, at least he had his twin sister with him. Now, that still worried him since Yvette was an exact opposite of him. He literally had to spend much of his time apologizing to people for Yvette's behavior.

The oak doors opened and in they walked into the Great Hall. The older twin heard Yvette sighed beside him. Noelle looked around as he followed the other students toward the small platform in front of the hall. Yvette was unexpectedly quiet and this somehow worried Noelle a bit, knowing that they did not know anybody here. They were like strangers in a new place. This did not discourage the Maxwell boy since he was optimistic that they would soon make friends, and enemies for Yvette, in no time.

They were gathered in front and the headmistress started calling out their names. Noelle thought over the four houses Hogwarts had. Traditionally, Ravenclaw had been the dominant house in their family. Noelle saw no problem with that but personally, he was hoping to be in another house other than Ravenclaw, Gryffindor perhaps. He knew Yvette would most likely be in Slytherin and as much as he wanted to keep his sister company, Hogwarts was the only place where Noelle and Yvette had the possibility of being separated at some times of the day. After a few more names and Noelle heard Prof. Alicastell call him out.

"Maxwell, Noelle!"

Pushing his glasses up his nose, Noelle separated himself from the remaining cluster of students and made his way toward the wooden stool, sat on it, clasped his hands together and felt the sorting hat on his head. "I'm okay with whatever house you place me. Ravenclaw like my family or other houses.", he whispered softly, enough for the old hat to hear him. "If it is not too much, I would really love to be in Gryffindor." The eagerness evident in his voice. Noelle knew it was a long shot for the hat to consider his choice but who knew, right?

Aleksandra looked around at all the people. She wondered if her family felt the same as she currently did about all of this. She was more excited in this moment than she had been in a long time. Which was saying something, because she was quite an excitable person naturally. She did wish that she could see more of her siblings though, she loved them dearly. Though when your father was a dingo most of the time, sometimes it was hard to really know what to think. Ben was the one who had it all figured out. Her brother had been placed in Ravenclaw, but she wasn't sure what she would be best suited in. She didn't understand much about the house breakdown, she wasn't sure anyone did. Either way she thought it was kind of a strange way to sort people.

Her name was called and Aleksandra excitedly made her way up to the chair. She couldn't wait to see where she would be spending the next seven years.

It was ridiculous how excited someone of the students seemed to be at the prospect of being sorted into a house. Taerin smiled along with them though, trying to convince them she was just as pleased to be with them, but deep down she just wanted the event to be finished. The sooner it was out the way the sooner her parents would stop questioning her on whether she'd be with her sisters in Slytherin. She didn't really care, it wasn't as though it made any difference. She just wanted her family to quit nagging.

She watched with boredom behind her eyes as student after student gleefully hopped up to be sorted, and she glanced around the Great Hall aimlessly as they did so. How long was this going to take? At least she looked good though, and when the others in the room saw her sat under the hat she looked more presentable than some of the other kids. She didn't want to overdo it, and she'd tried to keep any accessories to a minimum, but she would have told you she looked great. Not wanting to get off on the wrong foot, she'd gotten herself her own bracelets in time for starting at Hogwarts. If Kimmy had seen her wearing hers from home she would've thrown a fit there and then.

Finally her name was called, and moving past the others she took a seat. Hufflepuff and Gryffindor had too many students in it with smiles on their faces, and while Taerin didn't care where she ended up, she did at least want to be somewhere she could let her hair down and relax.

Connelly had just gotten off the express and stood in awe of the castle and the giant doors that stand between him and sorting, the doors open grandly welcoming Connelly into the great hall, he walks into the hall amongst all the students chatting and eating, Connelly then spots the Sorting hat and the front of the hall and makes his way towards the line for it, Connelly could not be more nervous than this moment, Where would he end up, Hufflepuff, raven claw, or even gryffindor? He just hoped not slytherin, the line kept progressing but Connelly knew he had a bit before he was called as it was a VERY long line. Closer and Closer he got but also the more nervous he got listening to the professors sweet voice call each student knowing soon it would be his turn, then finally he heard it, Connelly Maxwell!, he walked up to the stool and professor, She placed the hat on his head, this was it, this was the moment he had been waiting for! He sat waiting to hear the hats decision, then the hat spoke, this was the moment, now he finds his house!!!

Killian's extremities tingled from his anxiety as he was lead into the aptly named Great Hall. He had a lot to prove to people that he could be successful but mostly he wanted to show both of his moms' that he could do right by them and so the boy hoped he would quickly find which house he belonged in. It wasn't everyday your future was in the hands of a hat so he wished the experience would soon be over. He knew his moms' had both been in Hufflepuff and would be glad for him to be in any house but he wanted to belong with them - he wanted to be a part of that house so he thought maybe he could trick the hat into thinking he belonged there but with each person ahead of him exposed for who they truly were he wagered that he would not be able to do so. The blonde boy's hands pulled down on his cheeks and rubbed over his eyes letting him see stars when his name was called.

'Hayward, Killian.'

He quickly went over to the seat and exhaled deeply just before the hat was put onto his head and tried to think positive, lovely things as if this would somehow allow him to be made to be in Hufflepuff over any other house even if this hat could somehow see into his brain and tell that maybe he didn't belong there whether he liked it or not.

On the 21st of June 2034, the first Gerry FitzWallace song soared into the world. It was loud, screeched off-key and sparked unbridled joy in the hearts of those that heard it. In the eleven years that had passed since that date, Gerry had learned how to stay on-key and keep her music inside. It reverberated around her skull, the never-ending soundtrack of her life. Standing in the Great Hall, Gerry rocked back and forth on her feet as each new classmate stepped towards the sorting hat. Music swelled, jumped and skipped between tunes for each student had their own approach. For some a power metal ballad for others a sweet and soft nursery rhyme. She waited for her name to signal her start of her musical, no magical, journey. She had spent every day since receiving her letter composing the perfect anthem for her official entrance into the wizarding world. It had been modelled off the opening songs of multiple musicals. It had a chorus and a triumphant finish.

"Gerry FitzWallace."

Gerry took a deep breath and stepped towards the hat. The notes of her perfectly crafted anthem did not start. Instead a tentative string quartet sprung quietly into being. She stumbled slightly over her new robes. She was well practiced at ignoring masses of people staring at her, but for the first time in a long time she could not block out their faces. It was with some relief that she hit her mark, sinking onto the stool. As the sorting hat was placed onto her head, her mind quieted letting some faint echoes of her personal anthem seep in.

Analei walked into the Great Hall, her eyes trying to take in as much as possible. She was a giant mixture of nerves, excitement and anxiety but she knew she couldn't let that show. The blonde took a small breath in, briefly closing her eyes before opening them again and continuing forward with the other students about to be sorted. Analei could barely focus on what the Headmistress was saying, focusing more on trying to settle her stomach and stop herself from freaking out. It was a stressful moment, and though she didn't know too much about each of the houses, she hoped that she would be sorted into the right one. That hat's singing snapped her back to the present however, though she wasn't unaware of magic as muggles were, Analei wasn't used to seeing hats sing.
After what felt like years and seconds at the same time, Analei's name was called out. As she stepped forward, Analei took in another deep breath before sitting down and facing the Hall. It definitely wasn't the best feeling for someone who didn't like to stand out, but she knew it would be over soon and that everyone would forget about her; even she didn't remember who the first person was who was sorted. As the hat was placed on her head, Analei waited with bated breath for the decision to be made.

As Sophia entered the Great Hall, she could literally feel the eyes of every person in the room watching her. She knew that it wasn't really her they were watching - not specifically. It was the group as a whole they were so interested in; the terrified and excited huddle of new students all making their way up the hall towards the professors at the end. Towards the Sorting Hat. Sophia could see it now, if she craned her head upwards, around the head of the person just in front of her. She didn't know where Rory was. Sophia had tried looking for her, but the older students were just a blur of faces - she couldn't even be too sure which table was which right now, they all just seemed to possess a sea of black robes. Besides, Rory was the type to make herself known if she wanted, and even though it would likely cause a scene Sophia couldn't help but feel a little glad to think about it. Seeing a familiar face would be more than welcome.

Students quickly started being sorted, and Sophia became so focused on watching each person make their way up to the hat, waiting for it to reach a decision, that the time flew past. She almost missed hearing her own name being called - but only because of the loud cheer that rose to mask the announcement from somewhere across the room. "Yeah, go Sophia!" Rory's bright red hair was unmistakeable, and Sophia was happy to give her sister a small, if slightly embarrassed wave before she moved to sit down on the stool. She had a feeling she wouldn't be joining Rory in Gryffindor - Sophia knew she just wouldn't be exciting enough. Any house she ended up in would be fine though, even if the Mustard family bet was largely split between just two of the four possibilities. Sophia hoped the ones that lost wouldn't be too disappointed. Placing her hands firmly in her lap to stop them from twisting together, Sophia tried to stop thinking. She didn't want to distract the hat from doing its job.
"You won't be following in your sister's footsteps, but I think you knew that already. No, you'll be able to forge your own path in...Hufflepuff!"

Upon hearing his name called out to be sorted, Bobby slid his way between and past two students standing in front of him, allowing him a clear path toward the stage. He felt excited in that moment, excited about finishing his first day at his highly unusual new school with a magical talking hat telling him which house he was destined to be sorted into.
He perched himself on the stool and waited in anticipaton for the hat to be placed on his head and start him on his path of wizardhood. It was a new adventure and one which Bobby intended to enjoy.

The dim lights that shown in the castle were much gentler than the florescent bulbs of her home. The native kiwi was surprised to see that this was what everything looked like in the castle. She'd read about it, she'd heard about it from people who were adopted before she became the eldest that the castle was spacious and beautiful. They were right. That only left Vesper to wonder about the state of the teachers. Were they prissy, did they think they were better than others because they worked in a magical school? It frightened Vesper mildly to think about them thinking of her as a street rat. It wasn't totally inaccurate. The blonde stood with one wrist held in the opposite hand behind her back. Patience was not a strong suit of the girl, and soon she began to move in place, and stand on her tip toes moving to try and see over the student in front of her. She wanted to tell them to move, but she knew they were only trying to see as well.

Vesper waited forever it seemed, her patience nonexistent. She approached the sorting thing, adn sat steadily on the three legged stool, her robes flowing around her. Blonde hair made the contrast as she adjusted herself, before she was sat with a hat atop her head that other students had worn. "This is unsanitary." She protested quietly, crossing her arms. "Fine. Get it over with hat. Been standing forever, I just wanna sit and eat." She whined. Perhaps hanger was her real problem.

Pippa was ecstatic, bouncing off the walls with energy. There was nothing more beautiful, other than perhaps her home, than this castle. It was well lit, paintings everywhere and the glow of candlelight made her feel warm, olive skin illuminating in it. The brunette blew up on her bangs as she finally arrived before the sorting hat, standing front and center, even though she was near the end of the list due to her last name.

There was wonder in the girls deep brown eyes, her home far away, her mind focused on the chill of elation shuddered her form, goosebumps seemingly trying to break the surface. What house would she be in? What house was Tempo I'm in Scotland. Wasn't she a Ravenclaw? Was Pippa good enough to be one of those? Finally after what seemed like an eon of waiting she heard the familiar sound of her name. Pippa bounced up to the platform, and sat on the step, grinning like a fool. She'd seen other kids seemingly talk to the hat, but she thought to herself here was no need to sway him. Any house would be her family.

Theresa looked around the Great Hall, her face scowling with mild disinterest. In reality she was fascinated by the new world she had entered, and her keen excitement was barely tempered by her desire to appear cool and collected. She continues to scan the room, trying to take it all in when she hears her name. "Bettingfield, Theresa". Suddenly shocked into action, Theresa strode forward, her confidence fake but her smile real. All of a sudden the hat was placed on her head.
Here it was, the decision that would impact the next seven years of her life.

Lauryn was tired of mourning her father. It's been months since he was killed on duty. She'd seen her mother and uncle had moved on, maybe because of the twins they had to look out for now. Alexander and Damien were the only joy they got when their father died because they were the exact replica of their dad. Lauryn would smile from time to time when thinking about them and now that she'd arrived at Hogwarts New Zealand, a constant reminder of them would be a helpful one for her. Donned on her school uniform, she was ready to tackle any means of survival in this school. Once the huge oak doors opened. A line formed into two and they all walked inside the grandeur that is the Great Hall. The brunette was amazed at how beautifully decorated it was.

Although, keen eyes still look at them and Lauryn was nervous about the people around her. What if they don't like her? Is she going to be bullied? There was a lot going on in her mind but by the time they were stopped in front of a podium. She stopped thinking other stuff and focused at the sorting going on. A beautiful blonde woman greeted them and the older students. As it progresses, she looked around, back in the States, she hasn't met any children that has a wizarding blood on them and maybe this is the start for her to do it. Turning her gaze back to the woman, she started calling names and each person called was to sit down on a stool and a hat was placed upon on their head. Lauryn jump a bit when the first person was sorted, the brunette didn't expect for the hat to speak that loud.

Her father was schooled in Ilvermorny where she was supposed to be, too. But the move to New Zealand scratched that. The sorting in Ilvermorny was different than this according to her father. As each students were called alphabetically, her turn was almost at the last. The group was getting smaller when ... "Lauryn Woodlock!" The woman called to her. Lauryn felt her face was burning, she was nervous. You can do this. Just go up there. Get sorted. And sit with your house. Easy. She thought to herself and that's what she did. Lauryn walked to where the stool and the woman was, she sat and felt the hat on her head. I have no clue how this hat does it. Augh! I'm sorry if I'm being ugly. Just got some culture shock here but I'm no no-maj. I know some wizards. Lauryn wanted to stop talking to herself but she didn't know how everything works. Okay, I'll just tell a joke ... What do you get when you cross an elephant and a rhino? ... Elephino. Hell, if I know ... Get it? I don't think so. okaaaaayyyyy, just sort me. The young girl was embarrassed about her rant that she had to close her eyes to not see her fellow future classmates' faces.

With a heart beating so loud it almost feels like a sledgehammer inside her chest, Chienna made her way to The Great Hall along with the other freshmen. She is totally pumped, this is the moment she has been waiting for until she received her Hogwarts acceptance letter a month ago. It feels so surreal. Looking around, she noticed that a lot of the other students are beaming and cheering at them. She smiles at a couple of other freshmen, and she always gets a smile back from them.

She tried to stay as calm, cool, and collected as possible as her name was called and the Sorting Hat was placed on her head. She sat there awaiting for its decision with a nervous heart.

"You could be a Gryffindor, with your love for adventure, but your fear of the unknown is very Ravenclaw, perhaps even paralyzing to a Gryffindor! There's nothing that says Ravenclaws can't enjoy a good bit of excitement. Yes, yes, I think that's right. You're a RAVENCLAW!"

Echo walked though the great hall fingers quivering with concealed nerves and excitement. She sister walks unconcerned beside her already making friends among the first years. While her friend Storm has already gotten into trouble twice. She listen curiously to the funny sorting hats song, but then she stomach clenched as names started to be called and the sorting begun. The sorting seems to go on forever till Storm's name is called and he confidently goes up to sit under the hat, which mulls for a moment before calling out his house. Echo feels a flash of jelously as he carelessly goes to join his new table, and she hopes yet again to be in the same house as him. Then her sister elbows her, "You are up!" and Echo squeaks involuntarily, before stumbling up to the stool. She sees a flash of faces staring at her and a thumbs up from her sister before the hat falls over her eyes, and she can only hear her pounding heart.

Ever since he had received the acceptance letter, Alkander was yearning for this new journey, despite having to separate from his father and his little sister. His wings were strong enough to have faith in them and soar on his own now to new skies. Hogwarts was one of the top, if not the top, institutions for wizarding education in the world but for Alkander was also a hub of endless opportunities for adventure. He had heard all about the rambling corridors, moving staircases and concealed corners, safeguarding well hidden secrets awaiting for curious adventurers to discover them.

Alkander had passed the trip to the school alone at a quiet compartment, enjoying the company of his pet owl Nyx and the stunning scenery shifting outside the window. As soon as they reached Hogwarts, he joined his fellow first years, getting ready for the sorting ceremony. He was familiar with the procedure, yet he had a know in his stomach until the moment the heavy doors opened and the magnificence of the Great Hall was revealed. Alkander just didn't know where to set his eyes first.

He stared overhead at the floating candles and the enchanted ceiling, thinking of the powerful spells that were cast and wondered when he would be able to cast them himself. The sorting hat claimed his attention as soon as it started talking. The boy had pondered before on which house he fitted the best. He didn't think he was brave enough to belong to Gryffindor. Sometimes it took him significant time to admit his mistakes and that required much courage that he seemed to muster only after he had managed to set aside his stubbornness and ego. He didn't consider himself nice enough to belong to Hufflepuff either, and definitely wasn't the type of person that would comply strictly with rules and prefer the company of a book over a random venture outdoors, to match the profile of a Ravenclaw. It was true that he was ambitious when it came to his dream to become an auror but at the same time he believed in equality and he was really against the apparent obsession with bloodlines that Slytherin represented.

No matter what he thought, the sorting hat had the last word. He didn't have to wait long enough, soon his name was called and he didn't hesitate to come over to the stool. With the hat on his head, he closed his eyes and held his breath in anticipation. No matter where he belonged, Hogwarts was still going to be available for exploring.

"Well, if you were sorting yourself you wouldn't belong anywhere at all, would you? Such simplistic impressions of the original founders, what they saw in their students... no matter, GRYFFINDOR would take you, even if you don't know why."

Cailin looked around her at all the hogwarts hopefuls. Quite a few of them didn't seem to know what was happening and at least one looked completely awestruck by the room. Cailin rolled her eyes. Some people made no sense to her. She didn't hate muggleborns, but it seemed such a waste to put them in a school with a bunch of people who actually knew what they were doing. How anyone could go ten years in life and not know what they were was beyond her. Cailin had blown up her pet rat once. It was the size of a small dog by the time her Grandmother had caught it. She'd killed it after, but the point was that Cailin had performed magic as a toddler, as had most of her family with the exception of Baltair who was well into childhood before he produced any magical signature at all. She had to wonder what people were thinking. It seemed silly, to her atleast, to allow muggleborns to set everyone else back. She was sure she wasn't the only one who knew some basic spells after all and that was probably only because they weren't allowed to learn any others, which seemed dumb in her mind. Still, it wasn't her decision so she supposed she would just have to hope she wasn't stuck with any of them, she wasn't about to spend all of her time answering stupid questions. Soon her name was called and after watching Baltair head to Ravenclaw - Cailin was not surprised - she decided that was definitely NOT the place for her. "Please don't send me to Ravenclaw, I absolutely can not stand the thought of living with my brother here as well as at home."

"I know you don't want to hear this, but you really are quite similar. You could do very well in Ravenclaw. If you're quite sure, though, I suppose I could see a very interesting path for you in SLYTHERIN!"

Aria Kovac could not believe this was happening. She was finally going to Hogwarts! Sure, this was not the same one her father went to, but she always loved the area of New Zealand. It was gorgeous. Where her father came from, Aria preferred New Zealand over it, easily. Aria wanted to get this over with, so that she could see what house she belonged in. Her brother was in Ravenclaw, and her father was once in Slytherin. She doubted that either of those houses were for her. She wanted something more than that. Aria heard the names called up, and eventually, her name being in the middle, was finally called. Aria walked up steadily to the front, and perched herself onto the stool. She felt the hat on her blonde hair, and she waited for the hat to speak. The hat knew all, and she trusted it not to put her into a boring house. She looked around until she found her brother, and waved toward him, hoping that he was just as happy for her to be sorted as he was. Which she doubted.

Ithica was average in height for her age but she was in her own opinion the least average person she knew. Her hair was as black as ebony and her skin as white as new falling snow, her eyes were dark almost black and so round and wide in her small pixie like face that most people became transfixed by them when they saw her first. Her voice was soft and girlish, playful and sweet though again this seemed to be at odds with the thoughts that powered the young girl forward in life. She looked so vastly different to the inner person that she was, her ambitions for her future were everything to her and she did not care who she trampled on to get there.

Her ambitions were fueled by the memories of her drunk abusive father, who had frightened and terrorized herself and her mother for a long time. The past two years without him had given Ithica a better sense of herself and who she wanted to be and what she would no longer tolerate. She would never let anyone bring her that low again, would never give anyone the opportunity to see her cry or make her feel small. This was in itself another new beginning for her, standing amongst all the first years in the Hogwarts great hall - Itchy glanced about her, her long black tresses almost lost in the blackness of her robes. The school looked so more impressive than anything she had read before.

Her name was suddenly called and she turned her head in the direction of the worn hat upon the chair. She made her way through the crowd, her genteel voice giving lie to the steel within as she bid 'excuse me' of those about her. A good first impression would last she had been told and every good spider spun an intricate web to catch a fly. Sitting upon the stool, the hat was lifted onto her head and she sat quietly with hands neatly folded on her lap, waiting the verdict of where she would spend the rest of her school years.

Elsa felt like she'd been waiting for this day all her life. Finally she had the chance to step out of the comfort zone of her house and see what the rest of the world had to offer, starting with her time at Hogwarts. It had been three years since her sister had joined the school, and while she missed seeing her she couldn't help be slightly envious of the things Lily got to try out. She spotted her now as the younger sibling looked across to the Hufflepuff table, and was pleased to see her with a smile on her face. Elsa made her way through the hall, hoping that no one was going to do anything like jinx her robes without her realisation so that when it was her turn to be sorted she looked out of place.

With so many eyes staring at the new first years, it would have been more comforting for the room to have some kind of calm ambient music in the background for them to focus on. So many students had come through this event, someone must have figured it would have been a good idea, especially for the most nervous of students. She looked through the small crowd of eleven year olds, a few faces confirming her thoughts. She would have to mention it to her Head of House, whoever that was meant to be.

As her name was called, she stepped up to the talking hat. Sorry no, the sorting hat, and took a seat beneath it. The room was quiet as it pondered her position in the school, and while she didn't really mind which colour her bedsheets were to be for the next seven years, she really hoped she wouldn't be in Slytherin, her Ophidiophobia sending a shiver down her spine.
