The Sorting Ceremony

Euthalia had always thought that big groups of people were, well, big groups of people. She didn't care about much, but she'd never felt comfortable in big groups of people. Too much exposure. Her sisters like this, the people, the sounds, the feelings. Ali always preferred to be on her own or with Ro. They would sit together in the corner of the room and she would watch him read. She always wondered why he was so fascinated with books. The only time he wasn't reading was when they were discussing, and he was making an executive decision for the both of them. Honestly there was nothing she disliked more than making decisions. She always preferred to be informed before making a choice and since she didn't care, she found that she was very rarely informed on anything, thus she could not make an informed decision. Ro, however, was very well read and seemed to know everything that was going on all the time. Ali much preferred to follow her brothers much trusted opinion than to form her own. It wasn't that she couldn't think for herself, she could, when she wanted to. Most of the time however, she cared so little, she saw no point in trying to understand the subject.

"Vetrova, Euthalia"

The first of the pair, Ali would have preferred to be second, only so that she could see which house her brother was in, then she could make her statements to the hat attempting to be placed in the same house, but, as it happened, the string of fate had other ideas, birthing her first and giving her the name that came first, rather than Ro. She shrugged, nodded to her brother and made her way to the sorting hat. She had nothing to say and so she remained silent as she waited for the verdict. She had no doubt that hat knew all about her anyway, there was likely no need to plead. It was so beneath her.

Not even the temptations of a spelled hall, or the blathering on of professors could get Ro to put down his book. History of Harry Potter and the Days Before the Second Great War was enthralling and he leaned into his sister to read out particularly interesting parts. He was not sure if they were acknowledged, but he knew he would pass the time much faster for her this way. She was always so preoccupied with watching him read that he sometimes thought she would ask him more about the subject of the tale, only she never did. Maybe one of these days he would, but that day was not today. Ro had gotten so used to their routine by now, that it was almost throwing him right off not to be sitting down to a lovely dinner. Kaz probably popping in and being hungry, eating all the food and then disappearing again. Val didn't show up nearly as often, but he was pretty sure they still lived together, it was hard to tell.

"Vetrov, Eutropia"

He didn't put his book down as he headed for the chair. The hat was sat on his head and he finally, in respect of the ancient piece of artful magic on his head, lay his book across his lap to give the hat his full attention. He'd read so much about the hat, he was almost giddy to see such a complex bit of magic up close. It had to be able to grow and learn like they did. It was crazy to think something like this could even be sentient, and yet... he couldn't wait to see how this all went.

Rex walked through the Great Hall, following behind the other students that he had gotten off the Hogwarts Express with. He was having a hard time taking everything in as it was just so foreign to him. He had grown up in a purely muggle household, and so being in a place like this was very different and a little bit frightening, but he was quite keen to learn anything he could about the world of magic. he took his place at the front of the Great Hall with the rest of the first years and watched as they were sorted. This was quite a strange way for things to happen, but he wasn't really one to judge, he was eager to get sorted after all. When his name was called he ascended the small amount of stairs and took a seat, and before long the hat had been placed on his head. He fidgeted a little as he waited for the hat to make its decision, he was excited to find out where he would be placed.

Sam was looking forward to going to Hogwarts, as her brother Xavier was also there. She was keen on getting sorted and visiting the castle and she didn't know what to expect y, because despite the descriptions she had been given by all of her siblings besides one she liked knowing what to expect. She wasn't one for surprises. She didn't talk as much as some of the people in her year group on the train, not even when they entered the room known as the great hall where they'd be sorted. Sam immediately searched for the familiar pair of eyes and when she found them she smiled towards her brother and then quickly looked away to absorb the beauty of the castle around her.

Sam didn't mind it that much that she had to wait a bit before her name was called. When it was she took a breath before moving towards the stool. The fact that she had all the attention now didn't matter to her and she wasn't nervous about it either. In fact the girl had no idea what to think right now except for maybe just one thing: she really didn't want to be sorted in the same house as her brother, she wanted to distinguish herself from the rest of her siblings. She loved him dearly, but not to that extent.

The majority of the first years were looking around with only their mouths wider than their eyes, and Stefan was much the same, only significantly more subdued. Mouth shut, he was still looking at everything at once, soaking in the atmosphere and the general air of anticipation. Neither of his older siblings had gone to Hogwarts New Zealand, so there was very little that they could tell him about the castle or its inhabitants; everything from the location to the school houses was a surprise to him. He was quite taken aback to find that they would be 'segregated' into houses with very different traits. Stefan imagined that the rivalry between them may have been more friendly if there weren't certain personality traits attached to the inhabitants, but either way, he was determined to make the house he was sorted into very proud. The whole school, if possible.

Fortunately he didn't have to wait too long to find out where he was going. 'M' was right in the middle, not too soon and not too long, so he was stepping past the others in ten minutes or so to take his place on the stool. For the first time that he could recall, the Russian boy felt intimidated by the sheer amount of eyes on him, but he told himself that they were mildly curious and not penetrating. The mind did tend to play tricks on you under pressure. He wanted to be calm, so that the hat was not swayed by his sudden spike of anxiety. Curiously, he believed he could hear the hat thinking, so he stayed very quiet so as to not disturb it. It wouldn't do to be impatient, but the sooner it made its decision, the sooner he could begin to settle into his new home. Stefan could not wait.

Yet another Kyle managed to find their way into the school, but after Stefan, there was only one more that might attend, and that was the baby sister, Tatia. Stefan was born a year after the twins, where one of them died. Somehow, he got the name that Sione's twin would have had. Stefan did not mind it, but did wonder what name he would have received otherwise. Stefan wondered into the Great Hall, looking about with eagerness shining in his eyes. Sione and Camelia were both Gryffindors, and Cristian was a Hufflepuff. Little did he know was that there was another Kyle that was sorted, and was a Hufflepuff as well. What would he be? Stefan felt that he was different from his siblings. He did not mind if he was magical. He wanted to study the wildlife that lived in the ocean, where he felt he would be best at.

"Stefan Kyle!" Stefan flinched as he heard his name. The boy walked up and sat down on the stool, feeling the hat on his brunette hair. He looked around to see Camelia waving to him, Cristian smiling, and Sione looking in another direction. Stefan sighed as he listened for his fate. While he wanted to be with his siblings, a part of him wanted to be alone so that he could face Hogwarts on his own, without the guidance of either sibling. After all, he had a lot of potential and growing to do.

Willow was so excited she could not stand still as she waited for the procession into the great hall. as she walked in among the other first years she looked around. she saw the four house tables exactly how Chante and her mother had described them. Gryffindor, her favourite house, Ravenclaw, the bookworms, Hufflepuff, Chante's house. Then there was Slytherin, Willow had a feeling she was to be sorted into that house she needn't bother returning home. As she waited for the ceremony to start She tried to make eye contact with her cousin, when she finally did she smiled and waved feeling reassured and proud that her cousin and best friend was there for her. it would be a fun year, they could hang out without their parents hovering over them.
Eventually the hat had sung its song about the houses and the names were starting to be called. she was practically dancing again with excitment. Thankfully she had her dads name Cullen so she was near the start of the list and didn't have to wait long Cullen, Willow. She walked over to the seat and sat down feeling the hat get placed on her head and the world turn into darkness. please please please say gryffindor she thought.
"Gryffindor, did you say? Let me take a lo- Ok, you've got it...GRYFFINDOR!"

It felt like the hat had hardly settled on her flaming scarlet hair when Willow heard a whisper in her ear challenging her over her thoughts of which house was right for her. it wasn't a long challenge. before it had even finished the threat she heard it resign hits self to the fact that she was destined for the house she had hoped for. as a shout for Gryffindor echoed through the room she got up and made her way excitedly to the red table happily hi-fiving a few people who put out their hands.

Mazikeen was in disbelief, finally, this moment, this first moment of her magical life was upon her. She knew that for muggles the thought of going to school was something to dread, especially a first day, but knowing that she was going to be spending seven years having fun in a school that would teach her how to succeed at magic was just going to be amazing. Maze had spent the train ride, practically pacing up and down the train as her excitement boiled over and manifested itself in her being unable to sit down calmly for any length of time. It was a particular, since Mazikeen usually had no problem being calm and collected, but it seemed that the excitement of what was waiting for her at the end of the train journey and the fact she was in the train trumped all calm she could've had. The young witch was excited for this, she was eager, she was practically glowing with it. The girl had known that talking with others on the train might've made her feel better, calmer, but she just hadn't found it in herself. There would be plenty of other opportunities to make friends, she could make friends with all those with whom she was in a dorm with, in a house with. That was the most important and nerve wracking thing, being sorted. The young witch was now stood with the rest of her year as the hat sang his song and the sorting ceremony was getting underway.

Mazikeen had thought hard about where she wanted to end up, but in the end it didn't matter to her where she was, as long as she was able to grow as a witch, as long as she could have fun. She could do that in any of the houses, she was just keen to know where she would be able to do that. her parents had told her to go outside of the house, both of them had attended Hogwarts in Scotland and had pressed the importance of not allowing oneself to become bogged down in any of the house rivalries, since they were silly and Maze had to agree, she'd be friends with anyone who was willing to be her friend, she'd create fun wherever she might be. She just needed to be sorted, and it was taking really long. There were so many names before her, but it was enjoyable to watch as others before her were sorted, the young witch tried to put as many of the names to memory, but she knew there were too many. She just wanted it to be her name to be called, and finally, at long last it was called. Mazikeen stepped forward boldly, making her way confidently to the stool. She sat down and looked out at the great hall, a smile so clear on her face, wherever she would end up, it didn't matter, she would have fun. She would make the absolute most of these seven years in front of her, and she wouldn't live to regret any of it. As the hat was placed on her head she knew that this was going to be amazing.

Brayden Zhefarovich did not know what to expect when he was given the letter to go to Hogwarts New Zealand after moving back to New Zealand with his parents, Alyssa and Vincent. He was not the youngest, since Chacen and Azelle went to their own schools. But, Chacen did once attend Hogwarts, and wanted to return when he could. Brayden looked around the Great Hall, and sighed when he heard that the names were going to be sorted in alphabetical order, which put him dead last. If only his father did not chance everyone's last name, just because his grandfather wanted to go back to his original, blood family. Brayden would have been one of the firsts! It was definitely sad. But his grandfather returned to Bulgaria for now, and wouldn't come back to New Zealand for a while. Vincent loved it in New Zealand more than Greece, where he lived for a little while.

After what felt like forever, he finally heard his name. "Brayden Zhefarovich!" Brayden found his way to the front of the hall, and sat down on the stool. He looked up to see the hat lowering on his head, and quickly moved so that it was not on his face. Brayden's eyes darted around, looking forward to this event perhaps more than he realized. He wondered what house he would be in. His grandfather was a Ravenclaw, his mother was a Slytherin, and a lot of the Snows were in all sorts of houses, and same went with the Zhefarovich family. Brayden didn’t care where he ended up, as long as the hat didn’t take forever.

Winnie was completely and utterly excited on the train ride to Hogwarts. In fact she had been practically jumping up and down from the moment she let go of her father's hand at the station. She could barely stay still in her seat, impatient and ready to finally see Hogwarts with her own two eyes, begin attending school, and lastly, to be sorted in a house. She knew about the looming sorting ceremony in which a hat would be placed on her head to decide the colours she would wear for the next seven years. The houses themselves however, were a mystery to Winnie as her father kept them a secret so she would be surprised when she was eventually sorted. Her mind was left to then fill the blanks between leaving the train and walking through the castle to the doors of the great hall. The castle itself was different to how Winnie imagined it, but she did not notice the scenery nor the few people she already knew as she stood with the group of soon to be first years.

It was only as the big wooden doors opened up to reveal the great hall, that Winnie noticed how magical the castle truly was no matter the difference to how it looked in her imagination. She walked with through the hall, smiling at every older student she made eye contact with, and eventually weaved her way to the front of the group to get a better view when they stopped in front of the person she assumed was the headmistress. Winnie listened to the woman's speech, nodding along but not fully paying attention in lieu of the fact she was about to be sorted. It was soon after the woman stopped talking that names were called one by one, and Winnie watched as people in the group were slowly sorted into different houses. She felt her impatience grow as she waited, but soon enough her own name was called and she stepped forward. Winnie smiled as she sat on the stool, not at all minding that the eyes of the entire school were watching her as the hat was placed on her head to decide her fate.

<SIZE size="50"><FONT font="georgia">Having made friends on the train ride already, the young boy was in good spirits, he was in high spirits. He had heard about this ceremony and he was happy to finally be attending. it didn't much matter to him the house where he ended up, he would do his best to uphold the traditions of the house while trying his best to have fun and do things that he wanted to do. He was looking forward to all the clubs he could join, he was looking forward to all the events he could get himself involved in, there was so much to look forward to about this school, and Derek was keen to get started upon it. The boy had been looking forward to this day for years, the first son of his family to be attending the school, and he had spent much of this year learning the basics of magic that would be useful to him moving forward. He wasn't overly interested in the classes, but he wanted to be great at magic so he would have to make an effort for it, but, he was far more interested about all the fun that was going to come his way the moment he was sorted and free to engage in the things the school had to offer. He just wanted to experience everything, specifically he just didn't want to become bored in the school and have nothing to do. He'd make friends sure, but he needed things he could do with his friends.

The boy was pleased when the hat's song came to an end and the real sorting began, he had met a few people on the train and eagerly watched as they were sorted before him, as many of the students were sorted before him. Derek knew his name would come fairly near the end, and he was actually enjoying the sorting of others. It was interesting to see the faces of different people as they walked forward and got sorted. It was interesting to watch how they reacted to the house they were placed in. He found himself mentally trying to sort people just based upon what they looked like, it wasn't very right, but he found it fun and it was something to do in the time he was waiting. It wasn't that long a wait, it was just quite boring to him and so he gave himself something to do. He didn't mind where he ended up so he wasn't nervous about his own sorting, he was calm and ready for it. The boy's name was finally called and he stepped forward, holding his head high and taking the steps quickly, his calm movements showing his confidence, he didn't give one hint of being remotely about this. Seeing the hall from this perspective was interesting to him, all the little faces, all the people he might interact with while at the school. The hat was placed on his head and Derek mentally thanked the hat before it even got started. He knew to be respectful of such an amazing piece of magic.

Athena was early up this morning. Finally! the day that she would go to Hogwarts NZ just like her cousin Evelyn and Espen. And she would not be alone, since Emilia was going too. They were the same age and apart from that they were family they were very good friends. Athena hoped to get sorted in the same house as Emilia did. The blonde said goodbye to her parents and younger sisters and stepped on the train and sat next to her cousin. They talked about their expectations in the trip to Hogwarts. Athena hoped she would get in the same house as Espen or Evelyn. But if it wasn't the case it didn't mattered. Athena hoped to meet nice people and make friends for life. The blonde wasn't afraid of talking too people and made friends quickly. She hoped it would be the case here too.

When they left the train and walked to the castle the blonde her mouth fell open. It was big! Not as beautiful as she expected but it was something in their family nature she got spoiled with luxuary. Her mother gave her everything and hoped her oldest child would do good at school. Her father was a gryffindor once and her mother a slytherin. Perhaps she could follow them in their footsteps, but she knew especially her father was ok with everything. Her mother on the hand hoped ofcourse to be a Slytherin. Athena smiled at Emilia as they walked into the great hall and looked out for Evelyn and Espen once they stood in the front waiting to get sorted. She waved at her cousins as she spotted them and waited a bit nervous on her result. Athena saw Emilia get sorted in Hufflepuff, it suited her the blonde thought. She was glad for the girl and thought of the fun they could have if she would be there too. Now it was just waiting and waiting..

Amelie was excited and very curious how her sorting would go. She was together with her sisters and wanted to know the answer from the sorting hat. She had like a million questions for the hat. Amelie wanted to know stuff and why someone acted the way they did. Amelie was the youngest from the triplets and often a peacemaker between her sisters. They were both stubborn and looked a lot alike in their personality. The brunette loved her sisters but was also fine with being seperated. She wasn't afraid of losing a good connection. They were always together so now perhaps it was time to search for her own path. But it would be alright too if she would be with her sisters in a house.

As Amelie entered the great hall with her sisters she smiled at them. It was excited and she would be the one to get sorted first. '' That is the sorting hat! I'm so curious what he will say. He can really speak, awesome right?'' she said to her sisters. Amelie observed the sorting hat and thought of that magic as very interesting. As she heard her name getting called she sighted and walked up to where the sorting hat would be placed. She thought of the sorting hat and didn't thought of any house, it didn't matter.

Damian walked into the hall along with the rest of the new students; for a moment he paused, entranced by the multitudes of candles that floated effortlessly above the students with no visible means of support. It really was magic; once again before him was unavoidable evidence that magic existed in a world that he was about to step into. A world where science was overruled by the arcane as it wished and the laws of nature were probably fairly flexible. A shiver of trepidation crawled down his spine; mixed with it was a sense of excitement.

As the group came to a halt, there before them perched rather precariously on a stool, was an old and tattered hat. To Damian's manifest surprise, what he took to be a large tear turned out to be a mouth of some sort, and the hat burst into rhyme. I suppose this must be the Sorting Hat, he thought to himself. After it finished its poem, the teacher that had spoken to them produced a scroll of paper (Or rather parchment I suppose, he thought) and began reading names off them.

The summoned individuals walked up to the hat and as instructed, put it on their heads. A few minutes would pass before it shouted out their House. At the brisk rate it was going, it would no doubt be his turn soon.

Maggie had considered this moment in her life for the last three years, but no image in her head matched the one that was now directly in front of her. Everything was so much larger, brighter, and more vivid than she'd imagined, and as she looked around the room that the new first years were making their way through, she felt a wave of sickness spread through her. It was one thing to dream of such places, but it was completely different when you had to face it in the flesh. Candles seemed to be hovering in the air, it just wasn't possible. She knew she was overreacting, and that everything her brother and cousins had told her was true, but it was difficult for the eleven year old to take everything in. She gave a reassuring smile towards the students beside her as they approached a stool with a hat. The hat. The one that would apparently tell them where they were to sleep for the next seven years. Maggie couldn't say she thought it would make a massive difference, surely all the students were under the same roof, and would need to look out for one another regardless of the colour of their robes, and as she watched the students before her be sorting into their houses, she just wanted the day to be over. Soon she would be faced with a new dormitory, and she planned to settle herself in as quickly as possible, she hated being on the outside.

As her named was called, she made her way up to the front, and watched as the Professor put a talking hat on her head. Not even she could have come up with something as absurd as a talking hat, no matter how much she loved to play and pretend in fantasy worlds, and as it became animated on her head she closed her eyes and froze. This was so unnatural.

"Walker, Jordan."

Her name was called and she found her way to the front of a crowd which was a place she always had felt comfortable, yet anxious all at once but this was different from all other times. Firstly she was alone and not with the supportive group of young improv actors or even her friends and secondly she was sitting down on an uncomfortable stool to get sorted by a singing hat. This sure wasn't mentioned on Bewitched. Jordan's dark eyes looked around at the people who were soon to become her classmates and wondered where she be sorted to but truly didn't think that it mattered. Her own mother had been a Slytherin and so many people seemed sour on that house for reasons she couldn't grasp but she didn't see how one was better than the other. All Jordan wanted was to better learn who she was, her hope was maybe her house would help her with that.

Glad that he had finally arrived at Hogwarts School, Eamon walked amongst the other soon-to-be-sorted eleven-year-olds, taking in the new surroundings. Every now and then he poked Arcturus in his side when he noticed something he thought his cousin would find interesting as well. He listened to what the old Professor said, eager to find out what kind of danger was lurking in the forest on school grounds.

''Tulloch, Eamon''

He looked up at the Professor when his name was called out and smiled nervously as he walked forward. Having just seen his cousin being sorted into one of the four houses, he hoped that he would be sorted into the same house as him since the two had decided on going to this school so they wouldn't get separated from each other. The young teen sat down on the three-legged stool and waited for the Professor to place the hat on his head. Eamon could already imagine the good times he was going to be having during his seven years of education - joking around and having fun with his cousin but also with new friends. Hogwarts was going to be a blast.

The day he got his acceptance letter was an odd day. A staff from Hogwarts came to deliver the letter personally to his doorstep which was odd. he wondered if that happened with every kid that got accepted into the school. That seemed a bit expensive and over the top, but Jacob didn't question it. He didn't question the person at all, the person just spoke about the school and his parents looked worrisome. Like they still didn't believe their perfect mundane Jacob could do magic. Last year they had experienced some freak accidents surrounding Jacob and if that wasn't enough someone from some magical ministry came to talk to his parents. It had to be done since his parents had almost called the police to get him shipped away to some instituut to check what was wrong with him.

His parents still didn't trust him fully so the person with letter wasn't accepted with much glee. They knew the day would come, but they had hoped it all had been a horrible dream. Jacob still cared a lot about his adoptive parents, at least they cared about him not like his biological ones had. They had just dumped him in the adoptive home where the Finley's found him. Not wanting to think about it anymore Jacob touched the ticket for the one hundred time this week. He was ready for everything he had packed a big suitcase and got all the stuff he needed. His parents brought him to the closest possible station and gave him a firm hug and left. This was it, he was on his own now.

He searched the train for an empty spot and sat down. Enjoying his peace and quietness, he grabbed his journal and started to write about his day. Writing in his journal made Jacob his mind wander off to different places and kept him sane. When they were escorted outside the train Jacob shuffled behind everyone. He observed everyone and looked for nerves and other behavioural differences. Living with his adoptive parents made him good at reading behaviour. He noticed some students acting a bit nervous and he didn't blame them. As soon as the castle grew closer and closer he felt the knot in his stomach too.

They entered the castle and were told a bit of welcome speech. Then a large pair of doors opened and large dining room came into view. Four giant tables with different colours banners for students and one horizontal table for staff it seemed. Jacob tried suck every detail in before it was his turn. He didn't want to hear were the other students were going, he would try to see if there was logic behind it. ''Finley, Jacob'' Now it was Jacob his turn and he felt the knot going tighter and tighter. He walked up to the stool and let out a sigh. What if the hat decided he didn't have enough magic in him, would that mean he would be expelled on his first day with his memory wiped. He didn't want to think about it anymore. Jacob closed his eyes and waited for the mighty hat to do his own magic.

Arcturus hated that his cousin was jabbing him in his side but did not say anything about it because he could not blame him for being excited about finally being here. While he listened to the Professor and smiled when the hat began to sing its song, the boy could not stop himself from looking around the enormous room they were standing in and at the things his cousin pointed out. It was nice to know that from now on his life was going to be much more interesting.

''Rabson, Arcturus.''

At last, after all that waiting around, his name was called out. Arcturus walked straight towards the three-legged stool and sat down on it, smiling up at the Professor before looking into the great hall. As he waited for the sorting hat to be placed on his head, he wondered what would happen if the hat would be unable to find a house to sort you in. Would they put you on the next train back to train station or would they let you have another go with the hat in a private room away from the other students so it could concentrate? So many thoughts raced through his head as he waited.

Lavinia couldn't even speak as the group was led to a large room with four tables and a lot of students. Lavinia looked around her at the people in her own grade, those who would be sorted with her and she wondered who from this group she would befriend. She saw one or two familiar faces from the holidays or the train, but other than that the rest were strangers. Lavinia smiled, avoiding Athena and Sara who were probably just as excited as Lavinia herself that she was here. In fact, Lavinia didn't really want to meet their gazes or wave in case they made a big deal out of it. Really, she could see them later...they wouldn't be offended, right?

"Benivieni, Lavinia"

Oh of course, how silly - her surname was somewhere in the beginning of the alphabet and therefore the girl was one of the first people to be sorted. Lavinia didn't wait any longer as she walked up to the stool and sat down, waiting for the sorting hat to cover her eyes. However it didn't when it was put on her head - oh. So she must've been taller than she'd expected. Lavinia pursed her lips in concentration, she had promised herself that her thoughts wouldn't interrupt nor distract the sorting hat and its decision (was it male?) but she couldn't help but to think all the things she had to do as soon as they went up to the dorms. Lavinia was basically coming up with a list of things in her mind. Please not Slytherin, she thought. If there was one thing the girl learned was that in order to find your place in a school or society you had to be different from those around you, not seen as the same as somebody else. And that included cousins. Lavinia was determined to establish herself as her own person.
"Why not Slytherin? It's a perfectly fine house. Some of the greatest wizards have come from there. But you don't have to worry too much. Slytherin isn't the house for you. No, no, for you, there's something different. You belong in...Hufflepuff!"

Jacob could not believe the day was finally here! He'd said goodbye to his parents, even though he'd be seeing his mother before long, in order to ride the Hogwarts express, and now he was walking into the Great Hall, squeezing his cousin's hand whenever something caught his eye and he wanted her to check it out too. The young boy was taking it all in. It was just as it had been described to him, but better. Jacob couldn't stop staring at the ceiling, and really he'd have done so all day had something more fascinating not happened. The Sorting Hat.

Jacob watched it sing, letting go of Jemma' s hand to clap for it. As name after name was called, Jacob heard some familiar ones. The Willow girl his mother had told him to look out for became a Gryffindor. And the dumb girl from the park became a Slytherin. "Surprise surprise" he muttered under his breath. He spotted a few others but it wasn't long before his name was called. "Kingsley, Jacob." Jacob smiled at Jemma before making his way forward, not really noticing the mutters that were no doubt from hearing his surname. Noah had told him to expect that since their mother worked in the school and had for a long time.

Making it up the steps without tripping, Jacob settled on the stool and was able to see the entire school staring in his direction. His heartbeat sped up, but the view only lasted a fraction of time as the sorting hat covered his eyes. Jacob didn't know what he was supposed to do. His mother and brother had shared knowing glances when he'd asked about sorting, but now this thing was on his head and he didn't know what to do. Do I need to tell it what I want? he wondered.

"You'd be a good fit for Slytherin....but a better Gryffindor!"

Asphodel King looked around the great hall, Green eyes in a relaxed position, trying not to look too shocked. Pho had been raised around magic, but the orphanages were nothing like what she was seeing at this point in time. Her father had told her that Hogwarst New Zealand was expansive, large and overly flashy. That candles floated and the pictures talked. The students were diverse. Everything was obviously true that her father had said - but why had he spoken like it wasn't a good thing. Pho felt her father wanted her to be home schooled all her life, but for Asphodel as much as she loved her father, she felt that what she wanted to learn wasn't going to be done in his house. He was a potions master not a wand maker - the ginger haired girl needed the latter.

Asphodel stood amongst the students whom chattered, even while the strange and old hat was singing. The bull headed girl told a couple to stop, who gave her strange looks - but Pho wanted to experience this without the interruption of their conversation. Once the song was over she listened as name, after name, after name was called. When it came her time Asphodel King approached and took her seat, silent and staring as ever. She knew in her heart she didn't want yellow or red. They clashed with her hair - blue and green would do fine. However she wondered if her reckless behavior would get her placed elsewhere, or if her personal want of wand maker - would influence the old, ratty hat.

"Slytherin!"

Marlowe stepped into the Great Hall, the journey to the school had been exciting and fun. She hadn't thought it would be, but having Jocelynn there and Jocelynn's friends made the ride so enjoyable. She thought she fit in well with Jocelynn and her friend Nixon, she even thought he was kind of cute. Though she didn't think she'd want to start dating any boy any time soon. They still were far too gross for her taste and she'd rather just have friends and hang with a group than just one person. Looking around she wondered where all these other students were going to be sorted to, she had a feeling she might be put into Gryffindor. She wondered if the hat remembered Jocelynn and would know if they really were as similar as everyone always told them they were. Jocelynn was a tomboy and well Marlowe liked dressing up in frilly things more, they were different and not the same. She wouldn't be upset being in her sister's house, but she wouldn't mind being in another. Then they could always try to sneak into each other's houses, which could be very fun!

A lot of other people were being called and Marlowe started to grow bored listening. Suddenly she heard her name being called however, glad the Professor who was calling names got it right, silent s at the end. She knew it bothered Jocelynn more when people pronounced the s at the end of their last name. Walking up she sat down and felt the weight of the hat on her head. She hoped it wouldn't give any sort of lice or something after all the heads it had been on. She'd have to ask Jocelynn later to look in her hair for her. Waiting for the hat to speak Marlowe looked over the Great Hall and the four rows of tables each with house banners hanging above them. Soon she'd be walking to one of those houses.

Suddenly, her name was called out.
Zoe flushed with excitement and took a deep breath, ruffling her unruly blonde hair in an attempt to neaten it up a bit. She skipped up to the stool - before recalling the instruction from her mother to behave and move with grace. Instead she slowed down a little, calmly walked up the steps and gingerly climbed up onto the stool. She wondered if she would be put in the same house as her siblings - granted, she was not entirely like her older sister and brothers, but she hoped she could carry on their legacy. She would not be completely disappointed if it turned out she was completely different from them - but it was important to her to feel a little closer to them.
The Sorting Hat sat on top of her head, and she squealed. She could not wait to begin her years at Hogwarts.

Maggy Harrington was not one to want to be the center of attention, so the sorting ceremony was something that she was weary about, although she wasn't very nervous about it. She was excited to be finally old enough to go to the school. Her mother spent the summer break telling her where all the classes and things were located at the school which made the young girl feel good about having an idea of making her way around the school. She wondered what house she was going to be put in. Her mother had gone to Hogwarts Scotland where they have the similar sorting ceremony with the hat. Her mother had been a Ravenclaw but she told her it didn't matter if she was put into the same house although she thought it would be nice be to be a Ravenclaw like her mother. The other houses were nice and she liked the red of the Gryffindor and her mom told her a lot of the nicest people were often in Hufflepuff so she would like to be considered nice and friendly like a Hufflepuff. Looking around, she didn't really know anyone, but she did recognize the Minister's son Jacob that was her age and had been sorted before her.

"Harrington, Maggy."

Maggy sighed as she walked up towards the front reminding herself any house would be fine, it wouldn't truly matter what house she was put in. November was in Hufflepuff and she could see her cousin looking up with a friendly smile. The fifth year was really the only person she knew at the school. Being a Hufflepuff with her cousin would be nice and she knew November had friends in Ravenclaw, so being in her mother's house would be pretty nice as well. "Okay Mr. Hat. Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff? One of those please," she said crossing her fingers in front of her in her lap for lucky as she felt the weight of the hat on her head and she could see November waiting in the crowd with a big smile on her face.
