Ava King welcomed the students entering the Great Hall with a small smile. The holidays had flown by, and the Headmistress couldn't believe that it was time for another year of school to start. She actually had had a very enjoyable holiday break; she had found a way to keep herself busy, and happy. The Sorting Ceremony was something Ava loved attending, so she made sure the Hall looked immaculate. The roof was, as always, charmed, the stars twinkling high above the student's heads. The roaring fires on each end of the Hall kept the large room warm and homely, the candles flickering above the tables made the room even more magical.
Ava approached the podium, the chatter in the Hall quickly dying out. "Hello all, and welcome to another year at Hogwarts." Ava started off happily. "Welcome to all our new students, this will be your home for the next seven years - if you treat it well, it will treat you well. And welcome back to all our old students, it's great to see you all again!" Ava stated smiling warmly. "A reminder to all that the Forbidden Forest is strictly out of bounds, and any rule breakers will be punished." Her blue eyes studied the new faces in front of her, some looking nervous, some excited, others indifferent. "First years, when your name is called, please come and sit here," Ava started, gesturing to the stool "And I will place the Sorting Hat on your head. The Sorting Hat will decide where you will be staying for your school years. When it's made it's decision, you may go and sit with you new House." Ava smiled.

OOCOut of Character:
As stated in the Information about Sorting thread, you must fill out the sorting form entirely properly and fill in an RP as exemplified in the post. If your RP does not leave room for the sorting hat to sort you: you will not be sorted. If the sorting hat does not receive your sorting form: you will not be sorted. Follow instructions and: you will be sorted.

You can edit your post once you are sorted, but be sure that you only reply to this topic once and it is through the sorting form provided. Thank you.

It comes but once, but once each year,
When, I, the sorting hat appear.
I appear to sort the latest batch,
To look within and find a match.
To seek the person who does reside,
Beneath the skin, deep down inside.

Rest assured, I do take care,
To avoid mistakes and always be fair,
Because I know my duty is very great,
The decisions I make affecting fate.
So do not approach with a sense of fear,
Embarrassed when seated upon your rear.
And when I’m placed upon your head,
Your thoughts should not be full of dread.
Approach with confidence, pure and true,
Give me the chance to honour you.

Those who step forth brave with pride,
Likely in Gryffindor they will reside.
Fire and Lion, scarlet and gold,
A house of friends, strong and bold.

Hard working kids who value fair play,
May find that Hufflepuff is where they stay.
The Earth and Badger, yellow and black.
Loyalty and tolerance, keep them on track.

Creativity and intelligence will help some soar,
Above the rest to Ravenclaw’s door.
Air and Eagle, bronze and blue.
The wisdom to make dreams come true.

And finally those, resourceful and cunning,
Ambitious and powerful are in the running.
They’ll join the house of silver and green,
Where water and serpents stage the scene.

Now, one last thing, please take heed,
Here is some advice that you may need.
This school has grown in a short time,
So have mistakes and heinous crime.
A challenge to all present, to look within,
No matter the house I've placed you in.
To do your best and persevere,
To use your strengths and face your fear.

The time has come, no more delay,
I call you forth, come on, let's play

Abigail Carter walked inside the Great Hall for the first time of the year, and the first time in her entire life. As she walked, she pushed her way to the front of the line in the hopes of being sorted first and when she found out that it was done in alphabetical order instead of whoever was first in line, as it should be. She angrily screwed up her face and gave everyone who went before her the most angry look that she could muster. She should be first, it was her right, nobody else in this whole room mattered until she was sorted.

"Carter, Abigail."

She heard her name and strutted up to the Sorting Hat, taking her seat and rolling her eyes when they placed it on her head. Let's get this over and done with. I'm amazed that it took you so long, I'm obviously the most important person here. She thought to herself, hoping that the hat was somehow able to hear her. As she looked over the crowd in front of her, she spotted her brother and smirked at him. He was nothing special.

Alkestis had brushed up on her English just for this day. The young girl was terrible excited for this sorting ceremony, even though she wanted nothing more than to have her siblings with her. Her cousins would do, however, and she stayed near them, holding their hands. She had a bit of the jitters, wondering what would happen next, and who would be first. However, a quick calculation in her brain told her that, of the Dragonslayers, she would be first. 'Leap of faith,' she thought, squeezing Frona and Artaxias' hands as the names were slowly coming towards her own. They wouldn't have to wait long at all, considering their last name. She wasn't sure if they would need to take their maiden names during school, seeing as the family occupation was not only blatantly suggested in their name, but also somewhat illegal. She would do right by her family, though and gave her cousins another squeeze, before her stomach did a million flip-flops as her name was (rather impressively pronounced well) called.

She sat on the stool slowly, her eyes locking with those of her cousins for strength. She loved her family, and was glad to have some of them with her. She pulled on her robes as the hat was put on her head and waited in silence. It was a rather old hat, a little tatty, but she rather liked it. It showed a bit of class. With her hands in her lap, the hat slipped past her eyes, and the wait began.

His mother went here, and his uncle is teaching here. Chacen Chevalier stepped into the Great Hall, amazed by just how bright and cheerful everything was. Alyssa explained that Hogwarts New Zealand was a great place to go to school, and Vincent did not have the honor of going there, but he favored Beauxbatons. Because of where they had the beach house in New Zealand, and the main house in Greece, he was able to come to this school. Chacen was really excited, and his new friend, Rosalina, was coming here too! He looked for her in the crowd of first years, but could not seem to locate her. Sighing in frustration, he gave up for now. He was just glad that he would be sorted really soon. He was in the first few letters of the alphabet with the surname. Chacen did not know what house he belonged in. His mother was a Slytherin, and some would say that his father would have been sorted into Gryffindor or Hufflepuff. Chacen was not told much about the houses though. They wanted him to be pleasantly surprised when he came into the school. He knew that he had a cousin that attended here, and apparently, she was sitting at the Slytherin table.

Hearing his name called, Chacen Chevalier made his way through the first years. He was thinking that he looked better than most of these people in here, but that was likely due to his grandmother being a Veela. It was something that he loved a lot too. He knew that Astarte would be just as pretty, and be able to charm men. Chacen did not have that. Instead, he just looked really good. Plus his parents looked really good, so it worked out in his favor anyway. Chacen finally arrived to the stool and sat down on top of it. He felt the hat placed onto his blonde head, and he waited to be judged and sorted. Or just sorted. He did not know if the hat judged or not. It was none of his business.

Eddie walked into the great hall and looked around, his face a picture of awe as he took in the sight before him. Amy had told him that this place was nice, but she'd been a little sparse on the details. He looked towards where she'd mentioned she would be sitting and waved a little at her. He stood in the groups of students he'd met on the train and was happily awaiting his time to be sorted. It was times like this that he wished his muggle friends could see him, because he'd never looked cooler in his life than what he did right now. A name was called and Eddie looked at the person as they confidently made their way up onto the stage. His own last name would be high on the list he was sure as it began with an A.

"Applewhite, Edmund."

He rarely actually used that name, but he shrugged as he carefully walked up the stairs. Unfortunately his legs had a different agenda and he tripped over something and fell, sprawled out in front of the stool. He looked up at the professor and laughed slightly before wincing as he stood up and put himself on the stool. The hat was lowered on his head and he smiled at Amy as he awaited the verdict.

His brand new Robes were pristine and suited him well, the darkness brought out his piercing grey eyes and gave him an air of superiority, which is what he wanted, his family wasn't noble or well known but he wanted to change that, years of being brought up the right way, he was now in school and the next 7 years would be dictated by what happened tonight and how he acted.
The eleven year old proudly walked in with the group of Student's all a buzz with tonight's events, every year new students arrived and got sorted, some with families already in school. Cole got his focus lost by the ceiling for a brief moment before getting nudged by the student behind him, he shot a glance over his shoulder and continued to walk.

The Headmistress did her speech, listing places which couldn't be entered and how they would be punished for breaking any rules and he rolled his eyes 'Welcome to Hogwarts, Don't touch anything or you'll be severely punished' he mocked in his head, pulling an expression while he thought to himself. The ceremony began and student's were called and they approached the hat, got sorted and went to their respective tables, Cole looked around his eyes making some awkward contacts with other student's at their tables, 'Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor and Slytherin' he thought to himself checking out the different uniforms everyone wore, he glanced down at his basic uniform and wondered how they were going to change it to the house he was sorted into, or would he have to buy more robes.

'Ignatius, Cole'

Cole's attention went straight forward to the seat and the hat, he walked forward sliding past students too stunned to let him walk through and made his way up to the stool, sitting down and tapping his knee's as the hat was placed upon his head 'Can you read my mind? does it make it harder for you to find a house for me if I think about things? Do you have a name or is your name Sorting hat?' he realized that the Hat would probably relay his thoughts to everyone involved, he sat up straight and looked over to the house he desired hoping it would be enough to get him to where he needed to be.

Skylar walked somewhat asides from the other new students as they entered the grand entrance hall. His first glimpse of Hogwarts had been when he was around seven and his father had taken them around New Zealand and they past the edge of the Hogwarts grounds and they could see the grand towers in the distance. It was in that moment Skylar knew that he had to get inside them and learn as much as possible. He already had a plan for Hogwarts; Find the Library.

Following the general stream of children they filed their way into the great hall and formed a line near the professor's table at the front. Maybe one day he himself would be sat there. He waited as the names of students were called up and then it was his turn. "Grey, Skylar!" At this point he was beginning to feel somewhat nervous, what house would he be in? Would he follow his mother's family tradition of Gryffindor or his father's Hufflepuff? What if he was in neither, what would his parents think then? He sat on the stool and looked at his feet as the hat was placed onto his head. "Please, help me do my best." He whispered quietly to the magical hat.

One thing that Gavin Kovac was worried about, it was being sorted. With his father in Slytherin, and his mother a Beauxbatons beauty, Gavin wondered where that would place him. His blue eyes only showed determination, because he had a dream, and that was to continue in his parents' footsteps to become the greatest healer that he can be. Gavin looked to the side to see his cousin, Chacen. Well, half cousin. Gavin did not really know him, but he knew what he looked like because of some pictures. Colton, Gabrielle, Vincent and Alyssa all worked together. But, the two have never officially met. Shaking his head, Gavin turned to the front, with his eyes on the sky of the Great Hall. He admired the magic that made the ceiling the way it was, and wondered if Scotland's Hogwarts would have been the same way. He only wondered. Gavin would never go there because he lived in New Zealand, and his parents had no reason to go to England. They worked hard enough as is, with long hours and he had to learn to take care of himself and his sister when both parents had to work. Sometimes, spending time with his cousins like Cole, Lauden and Andromeda were pleasant.

Once his hand was called, Gavin looked down at his sneakers as he crossed through the half empty first years, before sitting down on the stool. He felt the hat fall onto his brunette head, and he closed his eyes, not wanting to see the students. He hated being the center of attention, and he felt really anxious. He felt as though people were judging him, thinking of who he was based on the house because of stereotypes. He cared not, he tried to tell himself. But, he did. Gavin did not want ill will toward him, but he ultimately decided that it would likely happen no matter who he was. He opened his eyes, daringly, and stared almost defiantly toward those that crossed his vision, but it was just a false sense of bravery.

It was unsure what Eleanor was feeling at that moment. She felt very excited to be attending a new school with new faces but also felt very nervous. What if she embarrassed herself on the first day and then suddenly everybody hated her? She also knew that she was going to be missing her family despite how annoying they could be to her sometimes. Hopefully boarding school wasn't going to be too bad. She promised to write to her family and friends back at home by owl so the owlery was probably going to be where Eleanor spent most of her time writing letters to them. She wasn't bothered at all by this and was actually quite pleased that they still wanted to stay in contact with her through this big journey. Besides, she had someone other than Lily to talk to about things which made her feel more comfortable about the whole experience.

Eleanor gulped when she caught Lilyanna's eye as they walked side by side into the great hall. Lily had always been very comfortable about everything and this situation was probably no different. Eleanor admired her confidence as she never had any herself. She wondered what it would be like to be confident about everything no matter what it was. Sometimes she thought Lily was crazy and that there had to be something wrong with her. After all, how could you be calm in a situation like this? They were going to a new school and meeting new people and Merlin only knows where they'll be after they both leave school. School was a very important part in anyone's life and surely Lily knew that.

Eleanor froze as she heard her name being called for her to go up and get sorted. In less than five minutes both she and her sister were going to be sorted into a house that would fit them best and Eleanor had no idea where that will be. She probably knew where Lily was going to be sorted but what about Eleanor? She didn't feel like she fitted in any of the houses. She sat on the stool shaking with fear. If there was ever a scary moment in Eleanor's life it had to be this one.

This was it. Entering the Great Hall with his friend at his side, Lestat Styx was ready to take on the school. It looked as though he had the devil in his eyes, but he was just looking at people that he could end up tormenting later on. Yes, this was going to be entertaining. He would love this in due time. Lestat looked toward Zared, another pureblood, before he pointed out someone in the crowd, "I think that she might be an easy target. And that guy too!" Lestat was already planning a reign of terror and pain, but in a way that will not get him in trouble, because he had to be sneaky about it. His cousin was expelled from here for attempted murder, but was doing fine. Lestat himself did not know why he had to be sent here. He did not want to even attend a public school. He would rather be home schooled and learning the dark arts like his family already mastered. But it could be something he could fit between semesters. Maybe, if he did not have to practice magic outside of school. Lestat had his mind racing, but his sister was nowhere to be seen.

Looking up, he heard his name called at last, after Zared was sorted, and Elysia. He walked up to the stool with his head held high. Lestat sat down, and felt the hat drop onto his head. He glared at the students that stared at him, but it was not very intimidating yet, because Lestat was still a child. Soon though, soon he will have his way and end up with a reputation that would have him remembered for days to come. If he could that is. He knew that he could never surpass Chaos. He waited for the hat to sort him, but he felt his impatience rise up, more and more. He wanted to go sit down. He hated being in front of the student body. Lestat forced his mind to stay quiet and not voice out his impatience with the old piece of rag. However, it was likely that the hat knew what he was thinking anyway.

The tall ceiling of the great hall looked like the night sky as Lilyanna made her way to the front of the hall with the new group of first years to be sorted. She looked to her right at her twin sister and gave her a reassuring smile. She knew that Eleanor had already made a friend or two before even stepping foot inside the Hogwarts grounds but no matter what was going to happen to either of them from this day forth, they were going to be by each other's side through it all. Admittedly, Lilyanna was very glad that she had someone to begin this journey with but she knew that she was probably the one that Eleanor was going to look up to being the older twin. Lilyanna gladly took the role of leadership but hopefully these next seven years of their life weren't going to be too hard. After all, it was only school and Lilyanna loved the idea of learning new things. If thousands of other witches and wizards could do it then so could she.

Lilyanna could feel sweat building up in her hands when the professor started calling the names of the students alphabetically. Before Lilyanna came Eleanor and Lily watched as she nervously sat down on the stool. She knew that they probably weren't going to get the same house and had read up on each of the house's characteristics and personality traits before attending the school. In Lilyanna's opinion, Eleanor would probably end up getting something like Hufflepuff just like their father. Whatever it was, Lilyanna doubted she will be joining her at that table.

When it was her turn, she kept her head high and made her way confidently over to the stool. If she looked comfortable then hopefully everyone else would be feeling the same way. After all, it was only sorting and they were only just getting sorted into the house that would determine where they will be placed for the next seven years. Where would she be sleeping? She obviously hadn't been inside any of the common rooms yet but she knew that they were all different from one another. Hopefully she'd be able to be sleeping in some place comfortable. 'Please don't place me somewhere silly.' she thought once she felt the professor place the hat on her head, hoping it might hear her. It was magical so why not?

Standing as far in the back and away from everyone as she could, Elysia Styx waited in the Great Hall, unimpressed by the magic that displayed the ceiling. Instead, she was keeping her eyes on two boys up front in particular. One was her older twin, Lestat, but the other was someone that she did not like. Lestat's little friend. What she did not understand was how her brother could even make friends. Lestat was too bold, too fierce. Elysia kept hers hidden whereas Lestat wore his on his face. She preferred to keep everything hidden because she felt better that way. Looking down at her boots, she waited patiently to be sorted. She was going to be one of the last, and she knew that she would have some time to wait. She said nothing to anyone around her, because she did not want to talk. She wanted to watch people be sorted and judged, before taking their seat to the appropriate tables. Elysia looked to finally see the Slytherin Head of House, who happened to be her grandfather. She did not smile toward him, but she did bow her head in respect. He was the Patriarch after all.

Finally, Elysia heard her name, spoken by the professor that taught her older brother to be an animagus. Shame she was not interested in that kind of stuff. Walking with no hesitation or excitement to her step, she made her way to the stool. She sat down, and felt the weight of the hat on her head. She had to remember to push aside how she thought that being here would be a waste of her time, because of her family and their history here. Elysia wanted to go to Durmstrang because she valued their beliefs, and how they did not allow muggleborns into the school. She favored that more than anything else, and the winters. She loved the winters in the north. Down in New Zealand, it would be lucky to receive even a snow flurry. Elysia felt so out of place. She hushed her thoughts, so that the hat could make a hasty decision.

The young blonde was proudly standing outside the double doors of the Great Hall, Teagan Maxwell was finally going to be sorted, though she hope she will get the house her father and aunt had when they were at Hogwarts themselves. She heard that it was tradition that every Maxwell was sorted into Ravenclaw because of their smart nature and kindness. Teagan was not alarmed just merely hoping. Hoping that her attitude will be masked just for today and she will be back to normal tomorrow.

Being kind is tough, she learned that from her mother because when you're ruling people you have to be cold and friendship doesn't exist. Teagan glam herself up before the double doors opened. Two rows of new students started to walk in an orderly fashion. She heard amused tones from her peers when the Great Hall emerged. Teagan's was calm and collective, she had seen more elegant than the Great Hall's decorations, it was more on a 5 scale over 10 if she would have been a judge.

As the line stopped in front, Teagan almost collided with another student who was in front of her. She was about to say something when a gorgeous lady came up and spoke of welcoming. Though, she could sense that the lady was sad but acted as happy, Teagan was after all the master in disguised and know all about masking emotions. The lady was the headmistress and she explained how the sorting works. The young lass smiled to herself that was easy to do; sit and wait. Sorting began after a little more speeches from the headmistress and alphabetically called the unsorted students.

A's ... B's ... C's ... and then came to M's ...

"Maxwell, Teagan!" The headmistress called.

Teagan opened her mouth partially to speak about how her name was called but closed it when she remember that her title as 'The Lady Maxwell' doesn't applied in New Zealand. The young girl simply obeyed the headmistress and came up in front, sat at the stool where everybody was staring at her and an old smelly hat was placed on her head. She could smell the foul odor of the old thing and can't control her mind going off like a war siren. Oh no! what if the smell clings on my hair? I could never get rid of it, there has to be a way to call a service for my hair. Oh dang! my stylist is a muggle, she would have fainted if she finds out I'm a witch. I so wish this thing only takes a few minutes on my head and be done with it. Hello! sort me already

Teagan didn't care about people right now, all she thinks was her hair for those grueling minutes pass.

Yuki Arai could hardly contain herself. She was incredibly excited; if a little nervous. Yuki wished that her younger brother were there with her, it would've been nice for them to do this together. On the train ride over, she wondered if she had done the right thing, in asking to come here. She could have stayed with her family, her brother, and she wouldn't feel so lonely or homesick. But, if she had stayed, then she never would have known what she could miss out on. Yuki would just have to trudge on, and learn as much as she could. She also hoped she'd make some friends in the process, someone that would help her to not feel so lonely.
The young girl looked around the Hall, amazed. Of course, she had grown up with magic, so she knew what it could do, but it didn't stop the beauty of the castle from being impressive. Perhaps it was also because of the adrenaline, the students and Professors all around. Yuki couldn't tell if her heart was beating too fast, or not beating at all. She listened intently to the Headmistress, and the Sorting Hat, her breath hitching in her throat when she heard her name called out. She should have known she would be one of the first, with a surname like hers. Yuki tried to remember everything she could about the moment; the sights, the sounds, what happened when they got there, what will happen next. She wanted to write to her brother, and she wanted to paint some pictures, she wanted to make flower crowns for all the Professors.
Yuki sat on the seat, closing her eyes as the hat was placed on her head. She had no idea what to expect, but she was excited.

Aminia's head was held high, blonde hair done in a rather elaborate braided bun. The petite Russian child neatly spread manicured fingers over her school uniform - the same uniform that she would be wearing until she graduated. Well, perhaps not the same, but close enough, the girl figured. With a smile on Mini's face she waited patiently for the sorting hat to do it's bit. It was really something, a hat that spoke. While she'd always been around magic, the blonde was not quite accustomed to things such as the sorting hat. Graceful and excited as she was, the ballerina had to admit a small amount of nerves was building up inside of the pit of her stomach. With a small smile on her face and straight posture she let nothing show through though, and instead remained calm and composed.

It seemed quite the wait, but the patient woman stood among others in the crowd and waited her turn. Names were called one after another, and finally - being near the middle of the list - her name was called. It was a heart stopping moment, and the woman placed one foot carefully in front of another, as if walking onto a stage to begin a dance. She took a seat on the stool, allowing her skirt to slide beneath her rump so as not to freeze on the cold wood. Unsure of much, other than that most students seemed to remain silent, Aminia allowed herself to get lost in her thoughts of schooling. "I wonder if everyone will be as focused as I am, or if I will make friends that are as ambitious as I am. Will they make fun of my Russian accent?" She thought for a few moments, steady breathing filling her lungs in wait for the answer of her house.

An anxious ball welled in Binnaz's throat as she entered what was called the great hall. The sight of the magical building itself was spectacular, the inside aromas and textures overwhelming. Binnaz had seen palaces, but this - this was far better. The woman, feeling more than afraid, gently caressed the Bindi that adorned her head. The red jewel, her mother had once told her, could ward off bad luck - it was her third eye, and something to wear not only to galas, but after marriage it was to be worn always. The girl had worn this to sorting by the recommendation of her brother, and it was a comfort to think it might keep her from being consumed by bad luck - or the room itself.

Brown eyes searched the room before finding her brother, whom was the caretaker, and she gave a small smile and nod. She needed as much comfort as possible, because before she knew it, the sorting hat was being placed on her head, and her knuckles were turned white from gripping the school. "Sir, I would like to thank you for sorting me, and please do not view this as disrespect because I know your knowledge is great, but I only hope you will put me in a place to make me successful." She thought to this magical hat, the one that they said would decide her fate - her house, friends, and life for seven years to come.

Noah's chin was up and his mind was filled with excitement and wonder as he entered the great hall. Floating candles, children in uniforms just like his - his moment had arrived. For the young Warland boy he'd waited his whole life for this moment, his father had prepared him for this moment. The wait was almost too much for him to bear. As he watched student after student be sorted he felt his patience slipping. A Hufflepuff here and a Slytherin there - when was his turn?

Noah finally heard his name, the crowd had dwindled down to just a few by the time he was called. Puffing out his chest slightly, the man put on his bravado and took the seat to be sorted. This was it, the moment he'd waited for. "I hope you know what you're doing." He muttered to the old hat before closing his eyes behind it and waiting.

Kayla was almost shaking with a combination of nervousness and excitment. This was it! Even when she saw the beautiful building of Hogwarts, she felt closer to her Dad. She almost felt like he would be standing there, welcoming her. Her thoughts could have gone on a downward slope from there but she was just too excited and surrounded by fellow first years. She idly wondered which house she would be sorted into. She didn't really mind, she knew the hat would pick the best house for her, even if it wasn't the same as her Dad's. She wasn't keen on Slytherin, from what she had read but she would just have to wait and see!

She couldn't help her mouth from just opening when they entered the Great Hall. It was magnificant. All this magic, all this decoration. She wanted to scream with happiness. This was a moment she would remember forever. It almost rivaled the moment she had put on her new uniform. It hadn't really felt real until then. She had thought to herself, I am actually going to Hogwarts. She literally was a ball of energy but being an actress, she with-held this energy somewhat so she didn't look silly. All she had was a wide smile on her face and a look of wonderment in her eyes.

Finally, the names were called. Kayla waited anxiously for her name. She was nervous about sitting in front of the whole school but she just brought in her techniques from the stage. If she didn't she wasn't sure she would be able to sit up there. She knew she could though and that her Dad would be looking down at her from above. She almost jumped when she heard her name, slowly she made her way up to the stool. Her heart racing, she sat down and closed her eyes for a second. She took a calming breath and imagined it was only she , the stool and the sorting hat. It worked, she felt a calmness come over her as she awaited the sorting hat's verdict.

Daisy couldn't believe she was finally here. It felt like it had taken forever - longer than it did waiting on the day when her dad comes home. There were of course, major drawbacks in coming here. She couldn't bring Gus with her. She would miss her mom terribly. And she wouldn't be able to go to the airport to pick up her dad with her mom. Or see him off. Daisy was missing out on an entire month of leave that he had. But, as her parents had said, the pros completely outweighed the cons. She would be able to make new friends, explore a new part of the country, but most of all, learn about magic. Daisy could hardly believe it when her mother told her about what she was. Daisy had hardly seen any magic before, as her mom had given it up for her dad; Daisy didn't think she'd ever do that for anyone.
Apart from a rude boy trying to steal her bag (just because it wasn't dressed up with flowers, doesn't mean it's not a girl's bag!), Daisy had enjoyed the trip. She had met a few people, and the views were amazing; she couldn't get enough of her country. Her heart was thumping as she stood with the rest of the students in the Hall. It was magnificent. It was better than anything she had even dreamed of, or could imagine up. Daisy rolled her eyes when she discovered the rude boy from before was standing next to her, but tried to focus on the Professor and the singing hat. She could hardly wait her turn, and she was tapping her leg quietly, to get rid of the jitters and excess adrenaline.
Unfortunately for the boy next to her, they were quite squished in. Somehow, everyone else managed to make it to the front without falling on their face, but when the rude boy was called up (and what a name!), he caught his foot on hers, and ended up on the floor. Daisy pursed her lips to try hold back a laugh; she hadn't meant for him to fall, but it was his fault for not knowing how to walk. A few short words were exchanged between the two, hers mainly commenting on her latter thought.
Finally, finally, it was Daisy's turn. It felt like she had been waiting for this moment her whole lifetime. She made her way to the front - successfully and gracefully - and she sat down on the stool, a huge grin on her face.

The doors of the great hall open before Amarina's eyes and she confidently walks at the front of the group, she passes the Ravenclaw table and hugs her cousin Zania before joining the group where she mills into the middle. When they have all stood around the front of the hall in front of the old wooden stool. A professor steps forward with a scroll and the old tattered hat and begins to call the names. Suddenly she hears it "Amarina Gills" her face drains of colour as she takes a small step forward, she turns around and locks eyes with Zania who gives her a small nod. Amarina turns back to the stool takes a deep breath and sits.

Sheridan had been having a bad day. First off, this girl went off at him for accidently taking her bag - it was identical to his, how was he to know? She was a xenophobe, completely, and he couldn't stand it. It was rare for him to get mad, but he was rather cross with her - especially now that he was stuck standing beside her. It was ruining the entire experience, really. He was rather far from home, and missed his parents, but he was here now and wasn't going to back out. He was living with his family here, and of course the ones in France - really it wasn't that far. Just an owl away. All he had to worry about was trying to make friends here, and it didn't feel like he was getting off on the right foot.

He shot a glare at the girl as his name was called, and tried to stomp on her foot on his way, but missed. With all the robes lying around, his ankle was caught and the boy fell hard to the ground with a rather loud thump - at least he wasn't the only one that tripped today? Red around the ears, and shooting his mouth off back at the girl with a glare, he dashed up to the hat and dropped his bottom down. "Hurry up, I'm red in the face enough Mister Hat," he whispered frantically, trying to get this all to move on.

The train journey to the castle had been thoroughly exhausting, but Ray wasn't expecting to get a wink of sleep that night. Dodging pointy elbows and broad shoulders, she pushed her way to the front of the crowd to catch a better glimpse of the great hall as they entered. The murmurs of the crowd grew increasingly excited (and frustrated), until finally the doors swung open and the unsorted students flocked in. Ray didn't know what to look at first. There wasn't an object nor person in the room that didn't feel as if it were imbued with magic, which was probably because it was. Ray had never seen so many magnificent things; even the goblets on the lengthy house tables looked as if they could feasibly have been made from solid gold. The only thing that sparkled in Swallow Barn was the cutlery, and even that was beginning to look tarnished with age. Most of what the Lagowskis bought was at least second hand, if not third or fourth, which was why Ray had been feeling particularly smug about the brand new school robes hanging from her back. It seemed, however, that new robes were simply customary, and that had she not had them, she would have been the immediate subject of a good teasing.

But these worries were irrelevant and quickly forgotten. Ray had made it to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and not even wild horses could have driven her out. She pulled her gaze from the enchanted ceiling to glare daggers at a girl on her left, who was clearly looking at Ray like the dirt on her shoe, and then came to a halt before the steps to the sorting hat. Her future Professors watched from their seats at the front of the hall. Some of them looked delighted to greet the new faces, whilst others looked as if they'd rather have been anywhere but here. Ray wondered which of them would be teaching her, but didn't have long to ponder before the names were called for sorting. Eventually, it was Ray's turn, and she left the crowd to climb the steps and sit down on the stool. She held onto its edges, rigid with anticipation, and was sure she saw one of her brothers waving at her from the sea of faces. I'll be great anywhere, she thought firmly as the hat was lowered onto her head. Just get the f**k on with it, yeah? This stool's making my butt go numb.

"Watch your mouth. Let's see where you belong. You've got the brains of a lion but oh...look at this. I see that you'll do much better in another house. You're a cunning one, aren't you? It's got to be Slytherin!"

The train ride in had been very enjoyable, Liam had met some rather interesting, if not strange people and he hoped that he would see plenty more of them over the term. Some of them may even end up in his own house. Knowing that his mother had once attended this school made Liam all the better about leaving home to come here, he was leaving a lot behind after all, his friends, his school, his favourite surf spot and of course his father. Liam had been a little annoyed at his father who had chosen to ignore this and hide it from him rather than prepare him from it so now it was all hitting him at once. As he and his fellow first years were led through the school towards the great hall he couldn't help but look around and marvel at the architecture of the place, it was beautiful and like nothing he had ever seen back home.

After a quick talk by one of the teachers the students were led into the Great hall down to the front. It was nerve racking to stand before the rest of the school l, it was like they were some side show to be marvelled or laughed at. The Professor took out a sheet of parchment and called students one by one to have some hat placed on their head. He suddenly hated his last name as it meant he was the first person to be called up. "Adams, Liam," The Professor called. Liam gathered his composure and took his seat on the stool amd had thr hat lowered on his head. "Hello, do I need to do or say anything, how does this work?" He mumbled so only the hat could hear him.

Agrippina stepped happily into the Great Hall, she was more than a little excited about the prospect of being placed into a house. Her brother was beside her and she grasped swiftly to his hand for a moment to make herself feel better before looking on at the rest of the students. Her last name meant she would be waiting for a while, but she had her brother with her so she was okay with that. It would be fun to learn things that weren't from the mouths of her parents for a change. She looked on excitedly as more names were called and sent to their places to be with their housemates. She definitely couldn't wait to receive her own house and rather hoped that she might be with her brother.

After he name was called, Agrippina walked confidently up to the stool and sat carefully on it, waiting patiently to be told where she was to be placed. She had to admit that this hat did require quite a bit of upkeep and thought that maybe they should be fixing it up every now and then, but it was, after all, on loan from the sister school in Scotland, so she supposed she could not complain too much.
