The Sorting Ceremony

Conan entered the great hall with his sister, Ai, and all the other first year students. He looked at eyes gazed upon the crowd he was in. He is going to be in one of those four tables. He listened attentively to the headmaster as he called upon the students one by one. Expecting that his sister was going to be called first, he was surprised when he heard, "Edogawa, Conan". He rushed on to the platform and sat on the stool, as the Sorting Hat was slowly lowered to his head. He waited for the house he was going to be in.

"You'll find all you need at Hogwarts in the house of HUFFLEPUFF!"

Emmeline entered the banquet hall behind the Professor that has met them at the doors. She followed patiently behind her along with the other first year students. Emmeline hung towards the back, not wanting to be seen first. In the group there were about sixty or so. When she reached the steps at the front of the hall, she pushed her way towards the front more to see what was going to happen. The Professor picked up the scroll from the stool that sat in the centre of the platform. She then began calling names of students out and the numbers around her slowly started to dwindle. Finally her name was called. "Emmeline Lestrange, please". Emmeline confidently walked up to the steps and sat on the stool that the professor had indicated. The professor placed the sorting hat on her head and it began to mumble itself about her traits and what not. There was silence for a few seconds before it came to its decision.

"Your attitude could use some work, no doubt, but I won't hold that against you. There's no reason something you can learn to handle should keep you from your brightest future. You're a RAVENCLAW!"

Leon slowly approached the stool, he nervously looked around him and all the faces staring at him, only him. He was beginning to feel a bit self conscious, however he overcame this and approached the stool, he once again looked at the all the people around him, they looked at him as intently as he did at them. The Hall was submerged in silence, a silence that spoke for itself, every eye on this one small figure. Leon looked away from the crowed and looked at the old, battered sorting hat that lay on the stool. He sat down slowly, and then looked up with more confidence as the hat was put onto his head.

"No need to be so nervous. In fact, I see a good deal of bravery and thirst for adventure behind all your timidity. You'll be a fine GRYFFINDOR!"

The Great Hall was not much of a surprise for Ai, since she rarely gets excited. She just walked in beside her brother. She may have a troublesome personality, like what her brother said, but, deep down, she just doesn't want to get close to other people after her parents died. After all, she just opened to a little of her friends in Japan, and she got separated from them, again. While daydreaming, Ai didn't notice that Conan had already been called and she was up next. She was surprised to hear the headmaster, "Edogawa, Ai," so she hurried to the platform and sat on the stool. The sorting hat was placed on her head, she wanted to stop unnecessary thoughts, but, it just came to her. Thoughts that said, "Please let me be with my brother. I don't want another separation." She was surprised because what she wanted to think was that, "I don't care where you put me in." And with that in mind, she waited silently for the Sorting Hat's decision.

"Well, Helga would take you. You'll have a lot of transforming to do to fit in, but you'll be accepted: HUFFLEPUFF!"

Taylor looked around excitedly as she walked into the hall. She was very excited for her first year of Hogwarts and she just knew that it was going to be an exciting year. She had always known that she was a witch but she hadn't known, until recently, which magical school she would be going to. Of course she was pleased with the decision. She had heard alot of good things about Hogwarts and it was clear to her why it was such a talked about school. With ceremonies like this it was no wonder everyone wanted to come here. She could see now what her parents used to mean when they spoke of the pretty school. They had transfered here in their last year and after Graduating had conceived her about three years later. They had always spoken highly of this place, and now she knew why. She couldn't believe she was here. Her parents would be so proud of her. She was going to have to talk to them, write them a letter and tell them what house she got into. She couldn't wait, she was so excited.

"Blare, Taylor"

Her name was at the beginning of the alaphabet so she didn't have long to wait. She looked around at the tables to the side as she stepped closer to the scruffy hat. She knew the drill, her parents used to tell her all about it. She smiled. This was for them, this would make them happy. This would be their happiness. She stepped closer to the hat and sat on the stool. Place me where I will grow hat. My fate lies with you. And she meant every word. She wished her parents could be here to witness this.

"At Hogwarts, everyone's fate lies with me. But that's only for the moment. In the future, your fate lies in GRYFFINDOR!"

Moon Sailor walked in the Great Hall to attend the sorting ceremony because she was next. She was nervous because she has friends from the Hufflepuff and one from Ravenclaw and maybe she be in the Slytherin. She was called "Moon Sailor" so she walked in and sit on the stool and the sorting hat was placed on her head.

"Most certainly a HUFFLEPUFF!"

Temporarily pausing at the doors of the Great hall, Levi's eyes flickered from one side of the room to the next, momentarily occupying her thoughts. A hand swiftly moved to verify that yes, her hair was exactly as she'd left it, smooth, sleek, flat. First impressions, she knew, were everything and this could possibly be the most important part of her life.

A small smile crept across the brunette's face as she walked into the room alongside her peers, her back straight, her head high, aloof. Confident. A confidence that she did not feel, but that was not the moot point. That was insignificant, as she had felt growing up. But no more. She knew that this had been truly magic, the small window of hope to finding the family that she had always longed for. This was a small window of opportunity that she could not afford to mess up.

"Hunter, Levinia."

This was it, her golden opportunity. And with as much grace and confidence, the brunette walked over to the stool, plastering the well-practised smile back onto her face as the hat was placed onto her head.

Okay...er, hat thing...I'm not really Levinia Hunter. I prefer Levi, and Hunter is my mother's maiden name. I'm looking for my paternal side, so just....get this over and done with so that can happen. Thanks.

"I'm magical, but no miracle worker. I don't know who your father is or what house he may have been in, or how your house will help you, but I do know that you're a SLYTHERIN!"

This was it. The moment she'd been waiting for.

The months of agony and anticipation were ending here, at this precise moment. "Lange, Hannah" was called, and a small brunette timidly made her way through the crowd. She felt her heart beating wildly out of her chest; Hannah, having been Muggle-born and lived in seclusion in the countryside her entire life, was still quite new to this. There were so many people of so many sizes, shapes, and varying degrees of excitement. Hannah had never entertained the idea of witchcraft actually existing; it had seemed far too silly for her. But, here she was, walking up to a stool to have a hat placed on her head to decide how to segregate her into a house full of people with relatively the same personality type and ambitions as she (or, at least, that's what she was comprehending out of all of this). Though this was a very simple and painless process, she still felt... nervous. A kind of indescribable nervousness that one would get right before a theatre performance, or giving a speech in front of a skeptical class.

There's nothing to fear but fear itself, she reminded herself, as she sat on the stool and entered a world of darkness with boundaries of some sort of rather tattered leather.

"While you may not be focused on school, you don't need to be to excel as a Ravenclaw, and I think you have the sort of stuff Rowena loved to work with. Certainly a RAVENCLAW!"

Nadine knew that she was attending an academy in New Zealand for witches and wizards but she hardly understood how this was even possible as she had sat on her flight from France and now on the train to her new school. She was simply stunned by the whole ordeal but kept it all blank to her peers who seemed to be bouncing around in excitement about their perspective houses and all the magic they would learn. She didn't know anything about the houses they spoke of because she had kept her eyes on the window as they we lugged through the land of the small country. It wasn't until she walked into the castle that she realized this wasn't just a strange dream because she was hardly creative enough to think of something this intricate or strange, especially when a hat started to sing.

The eleven year old stared forward as child after child had their name called until she heard a familiar one – her own. Immediately Nadine's stomach dropped and she looked down at her feet knowing very well that this was not who she was but she couldn't help but feel worried or perhaps like the minute she sat down on the stool she would wake up from this oddly realistic dream. She exhaled deeply and walked forward in silence as she lifted her eyes to the crowd of students before she sat on the wooden stool and felt the hat be placed on her dark hair.

I don't know much of anything about magic, sir, but please don't put me where all those mean children seem to be, Nadine pleaded silently as she glanced over to the Slytherin table. She seemed to notice that while they were ambitious as the Sorting Hat said they would be they were also glaring and looking quite sour. The French girl did not want that stereotype for herself although she really did not know what she wanted. She hardly ever did.

"I fear these are difficult years and every house has at least a few mean children in it. No doubt you can handle yourself, though. You have far more strength than you've given yourself credit for. I think you'll find GRYFFINDOR very much to your liking."

Rafael did not stand next to his sister in line. Though the two looked nothing alike he did not want people associating him with her. All his childhood his family said he was going to be Squib because strange things never happened to him. This was his chance to prove his family wrong. In a way he had already done that because he had received an acceptance letter. Rafael did not feel that was enough. When he saw his sister sorted into Slytherin he applauded. He chuckled because the hat did not bellow his sister's house. Soon his name was called.

"Todd, Rafael."

Rafael walked up the stairs and sat on the stool. 'Please not Hufflepuff.' He thought in his head. He was sure there were some pretty cool people there, but he did not want to be there. He started to scratch his arm. All the eyes on him made him nervous. He started to wonder what happened if the Sorting Hat got itchy. Not like he (or it) had any arms or hands.

"No, not Hufflepuff, but not Ravenclaw, either. Sorry, you're not as wise as one might think. You're a SLYTHERIN!"

It was like an exam... But this time he wouldn't get a grade, but yes a family.... All the other kids were nervous and stressed out, but it wasn't normal in him so he was quite relaxed. He was talking with his friends about the four Houses, and they all agreed that the Gryffindor one was the coolest... 'Girao, Rojer!' The teacher shouted, and he slowly walked towards the Sorting Hat. It all went dark, and he could only hear the Sorting Hat:

"As you wish: GRYFFINDOR!"

Boston was still very nervous, just two weeks ago he was on top of the world! But now he is in a school in which he knows nothing about. Magic seemed that it was all just lies, the weirdos with their funny hats that hid rabbits. Boston was with a bunch of new students, I wonder how many students are like me, who don't know anything about magic Boston wondered. Many students went up and down onto the large stage. Boston was getting anxious, when will it be his turn to find out which house he is to be selected it? He wanted to be placed in a house where he knew he would have a lot of adventure in.

"Hatch, Boston"The deputy headmistress projected very loudly.

Boston placed himself on a stool in front of the entire school and a patched up hat was placed upon his head. Please put me in a house full of adventure! I want, no I need to create adventure! Slytherin sounds fun! Boston thought to himself. The hat spoke which caught Boston off guard.

"I agree that Slytherin sounds fun for you, but can't guarantee your adventures. Regardless: SLYTHERIN!"

She jumps up with joy and says wow guys this is brilliant go hogwarts

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

He is Alon Barlev, son of Avravanel Barlev, pureblood and love to harm another with cunning face. After tiring day, almost died because of boringness and foolishness among people around him. Hell, yeah, now He is here in a ceremonial hall—or whatever it is. Alone, and ignoring the others. He doesnt care about the other but himself as his father told him. It's killing. Aye, waiting in a queue is rubbish but he's not brave enough to confront the others about his desire to get the first line. He's waiting for the line quietly, as his father said,—dont be silly to the others just cover up your self and be nice as long as you are not the strongest one. Indeed.

"Barlev, Alon."

"For God sake, It's time." He said, and walks down into the sorting hat. Well, she is very ugly as a hat. Cunning and He tough not good enough for kids like him. But, he doesn't care much as long as he could get everything what he wants. Everything—underlined it! Okay, his turn now.

"Definitely a SLYTHERIN!"

OOCOut of Character:
I am trusting the "Kill him of course, next day." response to a situation on your sorting form was a joke, and your character isn't a mass-murderer in the making. :jesse:

Juliette walked into the big hall, her Uncle was a muggleborn and she was a half blood, so she had magic in her veins but not the knowledge to use it, she was excited. Juliette flicked her long Red hair over her shoulder and moved with the group towards the Hat on the stool, she looked at it and wondered what it was.
Listening to the speach she stared at the hat curiously, It was a Hat.. Surely.
Juliette hopped nervously on her feet trying to pass time when she heard the first name get called and she stopped, she watched as a Student walked up and sat on the stool and had the hat placed on their heads, she cringed her nose, What if hey had headlice. The Hat talked and called out a house and the student walked off, Juliette watched as child after child went through and had the hat placed on their head, she crinkeled up her nose thinking about headlice, her Uncle was very strict with his hygiene.
Juliette took a deep breath and shook her Uncles voice out of her head and tried to enjoy herself, she wanted to get out into the big world and start the adventure, it would be so exciting! Juliette was eager to meet people and learn all about this massive school she had been enrolled into when she was a baby.

"DiSnow, Juliette"

Juliette made her way through the crowd and walked up to the stool gingerly easing herself onto the seat as she looked up waiting for the hat, she realised the hat would have been placed on her face if she looked like this so she looked ahead and felt the hat on her head.
The Young girl waited for a voice, any voice which would start her journey.

"It may take some time for you and others to see this, but it's really quite obvious to me that you're a GRYFFINDOR!"

Charlie stood patiently near the back of the line, silently admiring the great hall. His mother had waxed lyrical about her experiences at Hogwarts, gushing about the food, the ghosts, the friends and all the wonderful things she had experienced. Yes, she'd admitted when pressed, there were also bullies, homework and detentions, but time tended to wash away the darker things and leave happily glowing memories. He had to admit, he had a hard time disagreeing with her assessment. The sorting ceremony was set up to impress, with huge long tables swathed in silk and huge banners proudly falling from the ceiling, each with an animal guarding its shield. Personally, he found the floating candles ('levitation!' His mind piped up) particularly fascinating and he found himself watching them as they dripped and the wax dissipated mid-air, never reaching the table below. Watching candles drip for fun. Well, that said something about his personality, he thought with a small smile.

Charlie wasn't particularly nervous about being in front of all these people, though it would change when he had to go up to the hat to be sorted. After all, right now, he was a mousy haired, short boy amidst a hundred mousy haired, short boys. No one was going to remember him and certainly no one was going to single him out. Not unless he had toilet paper or something embarrassing on him, and he'd done a thorough check on the train to make sure he was presentable. Just in case.

He lifted his eyes to the ceiling as a girl in front muttered about the negatives of each house. Personally, he saw no point wasting time deriding every house when they weren't that good a personality test anyway. After all, you could easily have all the traits in abundance and get into one house purely because you happen to lean a little more towards one of them. Besides, every personality type had extremes. A bold brave Gryffindor could be reckless, an intelligent, studious Ravenclaw could be a recluse, a gentle, kind Hufflepuff could be a doormat and a resourceful, strategic Slytherin could be, well, You-know-who. But then, everyone seemed to forget that a Gryffindor had helped He-who-must-not-be-named rise (or so his mother's school textbooks he'd been devouring all summer had told him), so it really didn't say much about either house.

Charlie allowed himself to drift in and out of his thoughts as the rest of the students whittled down. Now the nerves started to kick in as the hat began to approach the 'P's. Poirer, Nadine, he repeated silently as a nervous girl approached the hat. Her turn was swift, but Gryffindor gained a new entrant. Now who was ne-

"PORTER, CHARLIE"

Suddenly, he regretted eating anything on the train. Just a personality test, he thought to himself as he approached the hat with his best poker-face, trying to avoid looking at any other student, A highly sophisticated, magical personality test that can see all your memories and thoughts, but still a personality test. Wow, he really knew how to comfort himself. With that, he sat down slowly on the chair and stared at the door on the other side of the room as the velvet-black material squashed down over his face. Wasn't really designed for 11 year olds, was it?

"I'm far more than a personality test. Is it personality that makes a person wise enough for Ravenclaw? Personality isn't wisdom, it's what one might do with wisdom. Was it personality that can Hufflepuff sought in her students, or some other intangible ideal? Is it your personality through which I can see not only where you might belong in this moment, but also in your seventh year? I don't think so. You have a lot to learn, but I trust that your education is in good hands in RAVENCLAW!"

I am walking up to the stand, the sorting hat staring deep into my eyes. If they told me about the houses correctly, then I was sure to be placed with the "Gryffindors". Supposedly, they were the brave and courageous. They never let anybody bother them, and were the most mentally secure group. The Great Hall was silent and staring me down, but I ate that stuff. I could think of only one thing that could truly scare me, but I was fine. My mother was all the way back home, cooking herself a meal, so I wouldn't have to deal with her on a bad day. As I took the last step towards the hat, I was more confident than ever.

"As you wish. Gryffindor!"

OOCOut of Character:
As a note, remember that roleplaying on HNZ is in the third person past tense. So, instead of saying "I" or "my" you would say "he" or "his". Additionally, instead of saying "I am walking up to the stand" you would say "He walked up to the stand"

Luthor stood in the great hall, he was in the line with the rest of the students, he did not like being surrounded by them but couldn't do anything about it. He was to be in school and learn magic, he couldn't let the professors or the other students know that he wanted to kill them so that they would quit breathing his air. Other students were nervous when their names were called, but Luthor was not. He simply walked forwards and sat as the sorting hat was on top of his head. He had been told that the sorting hat could look into the minds of the children and a part of Luthor was nervous because it would mean that the hat would know the bad things he's done. The hat could report him to the Ministry and have him arrested before he even had the chance to bring true horrors to the world. That nerve was quickly replaced by the cold logic that Luthor possesed, he was not the first child to be born and live in darkness. The darkest lord had been a terrible child and guilty of horrible crimes and yet the hat never sent him away, instead it had placed him in a house that only helped to increase his power. Luthor's eyes burned with desire, "Put me in the house that will help me rise to power" Luthor said coldly under his breath. He looked at the other students absently, none of them were important only objects to be used and discarded on Luthor's path towards absolute power.

"Last I checked, I don't take orders - not even from Silverbacks. Fortunately for you, you're one of the most plain cases I've seen in years. SLYTHERIN."

Kaleb strolled into the great hall casually pushing past the other first years. He noticed that some of them were looking around the hall in awe and Kaleb couldn't help but roll his eyes, 'stupid muggle borns, they really have no clue.' Kaleb couldn't stick muggle borns, they had no idea what was going on and it made him chuckle. There was no denying that he was excited to be here, to finally attend a magical school but he couldn't be bothered with all this sorting stuff. Looking around the house tables he studied the Slytherin table closely. He was told by his parents that he was going to end up in Slytherin, and Kaleb agreed whole heartedly. Hufflepuff sounded like a bunch of duffers, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw sounded too goodygood for the blond, so there was no other option, Slytherin it is. Running an impatient hand through his blond hair he watched as nervous looking children went up and got sorted, huffing a sigh he waited.

"Santino, Kaleb"

Exhaling in relief he pushed past the remaining students and confidently strolled up to the awaiting sorting hat. Sitting on the stool he felt the hat be placed on top of his blond locks. Frowning he crossed his arms. 'Slytherin if you please you filthy hat.' Kaleb didn't like the idea of having such a old, dirty hat on his head, but in order to get sorted, that was what he had to deal with. 'Get on with it.' he waited impatiently for the sorting hat to announce his house.

"Unfortunately for you, I don't please. I'm rather quite tired of little snots like you thinking you're Slytherin material with no respect for the ancient magic that courses through the fabric on your head right now. I'm more magical than your whole family has ever known, and this is how you behave. Then you have the audacity to spout your blood purity ideals. No, thank you. You've got plenty of lessons to learn before you live up to the house where you belong, but once you reach the ideal I'm sure the members of this house, and its founder, will forgive me. In the mean time, if you don't shape up you'll have some miserable Hogwarts years ahead of you. GRYFFINDOR!"

Mariana Bridge was standing along with the students in the Great Hall. Her heart was pounding with tension and excitement. She didn't know what house she'll be in and all she wanted was to be one of the best house she want to be in. Here feet was going cold and her hands was getting sweaty. The Minister of Magic was calling the students one by one and Mariana took a deep breath. Suddenly, she look at the Ravenclaw table, she saw her sister, Laura. She saw that she was looking at her and smiled. Mariana smiled back. Likewise on the Gryffindor Table, her brother Edward was looking at her too and smiled. She waited to call her name until,

"Bridge, Mariana!"

Mariana was relieved that the minister finally called her name. She walked towards the Sorting Hat and sat on the chair. The minister took the hat and put it on Mariana's head. "Please put me in Gryffindor." she pleaded to the hat. Gryffindor... she wished it. Well, she's kinda brave because she's not tends to be nervous in some things that people fears of. And she's very proud of it but not from being arrogant. She hates Slytherin but not very much of course. She knew that not all Slytherins were jerk and mean. Laura once told her that she she met a Slytherin girl who was nice as she thought so, no doubt about it.

After a couple of seconds, Mariana closed her eyes waiting for the Sorting Hat's response.

"While Gryffindor might make you happy now, I don't think it's where you belong. But don't worry, you'll have plenty of adventures and be a great Keeper in HUFFLEPUFF!"

Please do not edit out the sorting hat's response.

Jessie awaited nervously at the front of the Great Hall as one by one her fellow first years were sorted into their houses. She looked around her at the nervous faces of her piers, she could relate to the terrified looks on their individual faces. The group began to thin, students where walking off to one of the house tables. "Vega, Jessie," Jessie heard her name but did not move. Frozen on the spot, she waited for name to be called again and for the few remaining students around her to push her off her spot up to the Sorting hat. As the hat was placed on her head she took a deep breath and she awaited the reveal of her fate.

"Might as well be a HUFFLEPUFF!"

William breathed in deeply, before taking a step into the Great Hall. He was in awe of the beauty of the Hall. He looked over at his twin brother wondering what he thought, but, not to his surprise, Chad was focussed on other things. He had been waiting for this day for a very long time, however he did feel bad for leaving his sister behind. He was very protective of her, and it was hard saying good-bye. Ever since his parents died, he had definitely stepped up, growing up a lot faster than any eleven year-old should. But Will supposed it was good for the future, he would be able to look after his wife and family sufficiently.
Shaking all the thoughts out of his head, Will moved forwards with the rest of the first years. His stomach turned over as the Minister of Magic stood up to speak. He listened to her carefully, happy with what she seemed to be saying. Then, after listening to the hat sing, he got more nervous; knowing he would be one of the first up for the sorting. He watched as his twin got sorted, then waited with baited breath for his name to be called. Slowly making his way up the stairs, once his name was called, Will sat down on the stool, and waited for his fate to be called out.

"There's no doubt in my stuffing that you're a HUFFLEPUFF!"

Rohanna walked in the Great Hall. It was indeed her first time there. She was with other first years, which were about to be sorted. They stopped in front of a platform and waited for their names to be called. She watched as the students around her be called one by one and get sorted to different houses. Alas, "Panandigan, Rohanna," she was called. She sat on the stool while the Sorting Hat was lowered to her head and she waited for its decision.

"As you wish: GRYFFINDOR!"

Chad strutted through the Great Hall's magnificent doors. His eyes weren't focussed on them though; he was looking around the Hall, noticing all the different tables. Realizing it was too late to ask his brother why there was separation and which table was the coolest one to be at, he silently cursed himself for not studying up - or for not asking his brother all his questions.
His feet seemed to be moving slowly forward, the other young students being painfully slow as they looked around the hall, filled with ooh's and ahh's. He rolled his eyes and tried to walk a bit faster to move the pace along. Finally, they reached the front, and, though he would never admit it - Chad was nervous. He waited anxiously, but not for long, as he was one of the first to go up. He quickly, and confidently walked up to the stool, and sat down, with a smirk on his face.

"That's a smirk I've seen at least a few times before. SLYTHERIN!"
