Vanity couldn't say she had loved being captain with Horror last year, but it also hadn't been awful. She was glad she could do it on her own this year, though. It felt like she was truly in charge now. She had tied back the front part of her hair with green and silver ribbons for the tryouts, and waited until the team arrived, as well as the players who were hoping to join the team. Vanity smiled, tossing her hair back. "As you know, my name is Vanity Mettlestone and I'm your captain for the year. I'll work to make the team as good as possible. If that means cutting anyone who fails, so be it," she said, checking her nails briefly. "Understood? If you're a bad player, don't even bother to try." She added. Then she gestured for them to begin.

Kanako knew what she was about. If she wanted the keeper position, she'd go for it. But that's not what she wanted. She wanted beater. She wanted to hit things. That was her thing, and no guarantee of a place on the team would change her mind. She was going for alternate - like always. "Kanako, trying out for beater," she said confidently before taking to the skies. Kanako didn't benefit from any kind of practice in the traditional quidditch sense but she'd practiced plenty with swinging bats during the break. As such, she hit her fair share of bludgers though her flying was seemingly a little rusty. Kanako got into the swing of things (pun not intended) and managed to do some very well-coordinated dodges by the end of the session - clearly indicating that she had the skill, it had just been dormant. After the practice came to an end, she came back to the ground, pleased with how she'd done and knowing if she somehow didn't make alternate again it wouldn't be due to any fault of her own.

Sayuri arrived and flew off just to see if they actually had competent prospects this year.

Zeke didn't really know why he was here as he didn't like Quidditch that much. Perhaps it was curiosity. Or the feeling that he ought to at least try out, given how good he was at Quidditch, or at least that's what his family say. Zeke wasn't exactly that bothered with Quidditch but facing the simple fact he had energy to burn and no other sport to pour it into. That's why he was here.

He read the player sheet and saw there were no openings except keper, which he didn’t fancy because it was way too stagnant. With no open positions that he actually wanted, it left him free to pick. With a shrug, he made his choice for the best position for actually winning all the games, “Zeke Baros, trying out for seeker,” he told the captain.

He mounted his broom and kicked off, climbing fast above the other hopefuls cluttering the space. From higher up, he scanned for that flicker of gold. The moment he caught sight of it he dived straight down for it, the wind whipping his hair back as he flew downwards. Once close enough he stretched out his hand and wrapped his fingers around the snitch and held it tight. He whooped, holding it up so Vanity couldn’t miss it. Then he released it and reset.

By the time the tryouts were over, Zeke had caught the snitch five separate times. He tried not to get ahead of himself but he had a good feeling about it all. Maybe he did like Quidditch after all.

Sybil's stomach was in knots as she approached the quidditch pitch. Her less then spectacular season last year had made her nervous for try outs even though she had a spot on the team fair and square. She had experience and she hoped she could only get better from here. By the time she was in front of Verity and the rest of the team she held her head high and took to the air when it was time. It wasn't long before she grabbed a quaffle and headed towards the hoops and manged to score a point. See, that was already and improvement. Sybil made sure to get some practice in but mostly let the new players have the time to show off their skills.

Sunny was so sick of these tryouts each year. Several years on the team and she still had to prove herself each year which was ridiculous, especially when Vanity, the least deserving person of all, was their captain. Sunny had never been subtle about her dislike for the seventh year and enjoyed hitting bludgers at her whenever she could to remind her. Today her gripe was about trying out at all. "Honestly, it’s insulting that I don't automatically get my spot," Sunny grumbled as she swung her bat under her arm and sighing, "Sunny Day trying out for beater."

She mounted her broom and set off for the first bludger she saw. When she was close enough, she swung hard and hit a bludger straight at a chaser trying out. Sunny was delighted, getting a buzz out of the hit. She took a breath, then chased another bludger but didn't reach it before someone else trying out for beater whacked it away from her. "Hey that was mine!" She shouted angrily, turning and chasing another bludger. She had the correct angle to hit, but her aim was off and she missed hitting any players. By the time she finished, Sunny's tryout hadn't gone exactly as she'd hoped, but she fully expected to keep her spot after already having proved herself.

Alana was glad to see her fellow beater Vanity appointed as captain, they'd been on the team for the same amount of time so there was certainly an argument that she could have gotten the nod instead, or Alana could have been Vanity's co-captain. But Alana didn't think too much of it, she was definitely of the opinion her teammate had earned the role, despite what the alternatives might be. Alana gave her new captan a welcoming nod as she filled in with the rest of her teammates to start to greet the new people trying out for spots. There was only one open spot on the team so Alana expected the tryouts to mostly focus on keepers, but there were always a few hopefuls going for alternate spots to play the long game. Once tryouts begun Alana climbed into the air to give her support and keep bludgers away from people when the ones trying out to be her alternate failed. Which they would, they weren't as good as her or Vanity after all.

Gaia had grown around her father's liking to quidditch and unlike Nia who understood nothing and wanted to understand nothing of the sport he Slytherin had always found herself interested in it. She had decided last year that this year she'd at least try for the team, what could go wrong with that? Right. As she arrived to he pitch she waited for the captain to speak and her approach wasn't exactly the nicest but Gaia didn't mind it. "Gaia Athanasiou, for keeper." She told the girl promptly as soon a s she could, no use in wasting time.

Once that was over with Gaia got on her broom and headed for the hoops. Gaia kept a keen eye on the chasers and their quaffles making sure to block as many of them as possible. It was really about paying attention and reacting as fast as you could to lunge in front of the right hoop. Even then a few got past her, but that was better than letting them all go in freely. Besides it wasn't like anyone was expecting her to be a star Keeper already. Once the tryouts wrapped up Gaia was quite satisfied with her efforts and whether r not she made the team she knew she'd a least tried out now.

Ignatius lined up once again for Quidditch, starting to wonder if he was perhaps a glutton for punishment. But the glory was so worth it, at least so he thought. He was kind of relieved Horror had gone, Vanity was still terrifying enough but at least she seemed like she could be a little more reasonable. Also, she was pretty, so that helped. He raised an eyebrow when he saw someone else trying out for seeker. He wasn't quite sure whether to be happy someone else would be taking part of the load of bludger hits in training, or affronted that someone wanted to steal the position that was rightfully his. He supposed, like with his schoolwork this year, he'd have to actually try.

Logan's hands were shaking as he made his way to the Quidditch pitch. This was it, he had to make the team this year. He honestly didn't know what he would do if he didn't. He couldn't stand the idea of watching his classmates play games from the sidelines. Logan waited impatiently until it was his turn to go up. He stood up straight and nodded at the captain. "Logan Ashworth, trying out for chaser, but I can play keeper too if necessary." It wasn't a position he wanted, but he'd do it if it meant being on the team. He decided to play chaser now, though, as it was his preferred position. He took to the air and flew around until he got his hands on the quaffle. He pushed on until he reached the hoops. Logan moved fast, and managed to score in the middle hoop. He grinned, but knew he shouldn't celebrate too soon. He kept on playing showing off that he could pass the quaffle and catch it as it was passed to him, as well as keep it out of the hands of other players. He scored two more times, but also had one of his attempted shots blocked by the keeper. In the end, he felt tired but like he had done his best. He let out a deep sigh as he finally touched down on the ground.

Tryouts close soon, last call!

Amanita gripped her broom tightly as she joined the rest of the team hopefuls, trying to stand as tall as possible. Being on a broom already made her feel small and tiny and standing amongst a bunch of older students wasn't helping the feeling. The captains speech had her filled with determination as she stepped up, checking over her should to see if anyone had actually taken her advice and given up on trying if they weren't up to snuff. She wasn't going to be cut, first year or not.

"Amanita Castillo, trying out for chaser," she said, kicking a leg over her broom and launching upwards. "You know, you should really focus on one thing and not spread yourself too thin, you'll look better than way," she told the other boy, Logan he'd said, who was ostensibly trying out for chaser. Or maybe keeper. Unlike him, Amanita had focused. She could fly straight and hold the quaffle and everything. Scoring was another matter, she found.

After nearly losing her balance on her first shot, Ama hung back, working on showing how well she dog the other players. She stayed in the other chasers business, making them work as much as she could to keep possession and pass, and did her best to intercept. When it was her turn with the quaffle, Amanita passed as much as possible, quietly dreading failing another goal. By the time the tryouts ended, she had just one additional measly shot on goal, also blocked, but she liked to think she'd showed plenty of other perfectly good chaser skills in the mean time.
