Emma still couldn't believe she was here with Sully, on a date. She had been both too excited and too nervous to sleep much the night before, but she didn't feel tired at all. Instead, she felt somewhat jittery and energetic, and she had to restrain herself from skipping through the corridors on her way to the great hall. She had asked Sully to meet her there, it felt more 'official' to her than walking to the great hall from the common room together. And a part of Emma hoped that the sight of her in her dress in the magical decorations of the great hall would make Sully realize how much he liked her. That maybe she should be his girlfriend. She was absolutely obsessed with her dress, and had spent a lot of time looking at herself in the mirror and turning to see the way the light hit the shimmering fabric. She could only hope Sully liked it too. Bouncing a bit in place in her excitement, Emma waited near the door of the great hall for her prince to arrive. She just knew, deep down, that this was going to be absolutely perfect.

Heading down the stairs, fussing with his buttons, Sully was fairly convinced he was probably late. He couldn't quite remember what time he'd said he'd meet Emma, but considering how empty the dorms had been by the time he'd left, Sully had a hunch he'd left it a little long. Even heading down the stairs, he was still trying to decide if buttoning his vest would look like he was trying too hard or not before eventually deciding to stuff it and leave it unbuttoned.

Emma was easy to spot by the door to the great hall, her hair still as red as ever, and Sully gave her an effortless smile as he reached her. "Hey, you look uh. Shiny?" He said, offering her his arm so they could go in. "You seen Aisa or Noel in there yet? Or Jarica?" Sully asked, already scanning the crowd as they headed inside.

Emma felt like she had been waiting for a while when Sully finally arrived, but any anxiety or sadness about that disappeared at the sight of him. He looked so good! She grinned at him, glad he was here. “Thanks!” She said, no question in her mind that ‘shiny’ was a compliment. “You look good too.” She added a little shyly. He offered his arm like a gentleman, and Emma took it happily. But his next question made her hesitate. “Uh, no.” She said, a little uncertainly. They were here together, right? Why was he looking for other people? She knew Noel from the Gryffindor Quidditch team, but didn’t really know the other two that well. The only thing she knew about them was that they were girls and friends with Sully, which made her not like them very much on principle. “Do you want to dance?” She asked him, trying to distract him from finding his friends so they could have fun together instead.

"Ah, lame." Sully was disappointed when he and Emma couldn't immediately spot any of his friends. The best part of dances and stuff was hanging out with everyone in your fancy clothes, but he supposed he still had Emma to talk to in the meantime. It was still a shame though, Sully had been looking forward to teasing Noel about asking out Minnie Calida, the enemy captain, but he supposed he had plenty of time later tonight when they were back in their dorm. He was still scanning the crowd when Emma spoke again, glancing at her to catch the tail end of an offer to dance. "Oh, yeah sure," He shrugged, walking with her out to the dance floor and dropping her arm to free up some space. Sully wasn't really much for formal dancing, enjoying more modern stuff, not that the music at school dances was ever that great, but he wasn't about to spin Emma around the room or anything stuffy like that.

Emma frowned a little when Sully expressed his disappointment about her not having seen his friends. It made her wonder why he wanted to see them. Wasn't this a date? Surely it was, he'd asked her and everything. She was glad when they headed to the dance floor, eager to get some dancing in. Surely, that would make this feel like a real date, just like all the older couples dancing around them. But the hopeful grins lid off her face as he let go of her arm and moved away from her. Clearly, he didn't want to dance like the other couples. But Emma decided not to let it bother her, she started dancing to the music near him, moving a little closer as she danced. "This is so cool!" She told him. "Thanks for asking me." She added with a grin, a subtle reminder that he'd asked her on a date. "I think you're awesome." She added, right before twirling in her dance.

Sully grinned as Emma joined in with the dancing. The music still wasn't the greatest but it was still pretty fun. "Yeah, right?" Sully agreed, happy that Emma hadn't turned out to be a super boring date or anything. He did wonder if he should try to be more romantic. The whole point of the spin the bottle game and inviting someone to the ball was to achieve exactly that. "You're pretty cool too," He said, feeling bolder with Emma's compliments to try and grab her hand after her spin and pull her a little closer. He didn't need to be nervous or weird about it, Sully reminded himself, they'd already kissed before and she'd wanted to come to the ball with him, so Sully was pretty sure Emma was at least sort of into him.

Emma was dancing somewhat wildly, waving her arms around happily. It was fun! Even if she had imagined slowdancing like the older students were. But maybe that would come later. This was a lot like how she usually danced with her friends. She grinned and blushed as Sully said she was pretty cool too, her heart fluttering. That was so nice of him, and Emma wanted to compliment him back, but she felt too tongue-tied to think of anything. After spinning, she was surprised when Sully grabbed her hand. She had just intended to do another spin right after, and was thrown off balance. She barely had a moment to enjoy that Sully wanted to hold her hand before she tripped over her own to feet, tumbling to the floor. "Crap- Ouch!"

Sully wasn't sure what he'd been planning, grabbing Emma. Maybe some sort of cool spin or romantic moment pulling her closer, but instead there was just some flailing and Emma hit the floor in an ungainly heap, Sully belatedly letting go right as she went to the ground. There was half a beat where he just watched her fall, processing it before he burst out laughing, having to pause dancing entirely. "Oh my god, your face," Sully cackled, imitating her shocked expression before wiping an imaginary tear from his eye. "You okay? That was amazing," Sully said, still laughing. "Maybe we should go get a snack or something?" He said, trying to sober up for a moment, but still letting out a few renegade snickers as he composed him.

After Emma tumbled to the ground, she was frozen for a moment in sheer horror. She couldn't believe this had happened on her first date, her date with the cutest boy on the Quidditch team. She scrambled back to her feet, noticing with some disappointment that Sully didn't even try to help her up. She knew her cheeks must be burning, but it only intensified as she realized the other boy was laughing at her. She could have been hurt! Broken her ankle or something! She felt tears burning behind her eyes, and blinked quickly. Then she tried to smile, brushing her hair behind her ear. "Oops. " She said, trying to play off the whole thing as a joke. "I... would like to try dancing more?" She asked hopefully, more uncertainty in her voice than usual. She wanted to redeem herself, but also feared Sully might laugh at her again.
