Jonah’s mind was racing. He had just been sorted, his uniform had changed just moments ago, the plain robes and tie now sporting the colors of his new house. Hufflepuff. Just like Tou-chan and Corey-nii and Hina-nee. Jonah would have been happy of course, except for one tiny detail. Eli was in a different house! In Ravenclaw! Jonah of course tried to convince the Hat that he could be a good Ravenclaw and he had failed. He looked at his housemates as he walked towards the table just as Rose was called up. He didn’t sit though, he walked to the far end and made a sharp turn towards the Ravenclaw table where his brother was seated. “Bathroom break. Don’t wanna get lost alone,” he said, more to the other Ravenclaws, as he grabbed Elijah just as the Sorting Hat yelled out Gryffindor and Jonah watched in horror as his sister’s robes turned red. This was an utter disaster! And so he dragged Eli over to the Gryffindor table and grabbed Rose, telling her housemates “Need her help in finding the bathroom, thanks!” He didn’t even notice Sayuri getting sorted up on the platform.

They had barely made it out the doors of the Great Hall before Jonah looked at his siblings in disbelief.
“We’re in different houses! How are we in different houses?!” he blurted out. Maybe he was nearing hysteria? He wasn’t sure. Was this how Ro felt all the time?! Oh Merlin they were in different houses!

He barely even sat down and already he was being forced away from the Ravenclaw table and over to the Gryffindor table to grab Rose and then off and out in search of "the bathroom" which was clearly not actually what they were doing because otherwise (even if he would be annoyed by it) Rose would not have been necessary, seeing as she is a girl. Eli sighed, his arm still resting in his brother's grasp as he went completely off the rails and started making up some weird story in his head or something about the fact they were all in different houses. Just based on this reaction alone, Eli was pretty sure that was probably why they were all in separate houses, though he did wonder how it was not Rose currently on the panic bus and Jonah was instead. That didn't seem to follow the normal pattern he was used to with his siblings. A pattern he rather likes, so how dare Jonah start to change things now. This wasn't allowed.

"Please calm down, Jonah, you are making a scene," he hissed, sighing, deeply, at the pain this was causing him. He wondered if maybe Jonah had learned too much from their brother Ru, because this felt like something he would have done as well. "The hat probably looked into your head and saw that you were going to be a baby and that's why it put you in the sunflower house, to make you feel better about it." That probably wasn't how it worked, just give what he'd read, but he didn't actually know, and he didn't really want to waste his time trying to explain it either.

She hadn't been here two minutes and already she was the damsel in a familial kidnapping, and whilst this felt on brand for her it did not feel on brand for Jonah of all people. She hadn't even gotten to sit down and she was literally dragged by her robes out and into the outside part of the hall because apparently, other than her, who was genuinely pretty happy to be in mama's house, Jonah was being a child. They were eleven now and practically adults, surely this gave them the chance to be who they wanted to be, right? Well, that's what Rose was going to tell herself, until she could get to her dorm room and fall apart. She didn't want to be separated from her brothers, but now that she was on her own... oh Merlin, she was going to have to be on her own!

Rose swallowed hard, trying not to let the tension creep up onto her face. Honestly she was glad that Jonah had said it first, it kept her from panicking, and she didn't want to. On the train was one thing, but here? No, she had to be brave, she had to show them she could be brave. Now that she didn't have her Kaa-Chan and Tou-Chan to guide her, and neither of her brothers were in her house, she was on her own. She would have to do this completely by herself.

Holy crud, she didn't think she could do it! She couldn't even really hear what Jonah or Eli were saying through the pounding in her ears.

“I’m calm!” Jonah said. He was! He totally was! Rose was the one prone to panicking. Not him. He was just… confused. Yeah, that’s the word! Confused. “And I’m not being a baby, this is a completely normal reaction to the whole thing,” he said in rapid fire Japanese. It was getting a little hard to maintain the English at this moment, which should be fine. They all grew up speaking both English and Japanese and no one was around for him to actively need to speak English too. “That doesn’t even make sense! We’re a badger house! Badger! You don’t see me calling yours the bluebell house!” he harrumphed. They were getting entirely off topic really. Honestly, Jonah was actually happy for his triplets. He knew Ro wanted to be in Kaa-chan’s house and they’ve all heard countless times that Ravenclaw would be a good fit for Eli. So the whole thing was not a disaster really. It was just him that was the disaster. He didn’t really think he’d be separated so completely from his siblings when he’d been so excited just this afternoon. It was maybe just a little, but only a little, painful that he wasn’t smart or brave enough to be with his triplets. And it wasn’t helping that Eli was being mean even if Jonah already knew he was not being mean mean just normal mean so he kind of wanted to cry but that would probably make Eli mean mean so he was trying hard not to. And Rose hasn’t even said anything and this was a disaster.

"You are definitely being a baby," Elijah said, not changing to Japanese despite his brother's panicking and losing the ability to speak in English. He wasn't sure it was going to make a difference anyway, considering things were probably all jumbled up in his head. He wasn't sure what was making Jonah panic so much, but whatever it was it was very tiresome and Eli didn't want to have to deal with it. One of the reasons he'd asked to be allowed to come to Hogwarts was because he knew he would have been stuck with his siblings in Mahoutokoro, he knew, or suspected at least, that they would be in seperate houses. With another deep set sigh, that seemed to resonate from his chest, Elijah placed a hand comfortingly on his brother's shoulder, though it probably wasn't all that comforting to Jonah once he would realise what Elijah was actually doing. "And you have to be quiet to be a badger, but since you are very loud, you are a sunflower, because you are letting everyone who sees you know that you are a problem," he said patting his brother on the shoulder and then letting him go just as effectively. "If you wanted to call it the blue bell house, you could, but either way, you wouldn't belong in it because even bluebells have more sense than you," he said, with the tone of someone talking to a fool.

Rose didn't like it when her brothers fought and this felt like something she should be trying to get involved with, but she leaned against the wall instead, quietly trying to calm her breaths. She could do this if they would just stop fighting for like two minutes.

Jonah… Jonah was lost. And he really wanted to cry, but Eli was already calling him a baby and he wasn’t a baby. He was just lost. Hogwarts had been something that he’d been looking forward to, he’d been waiting so long that when they left this morning it didn’t really feel like an upheaval. It was a little weird being out of home and knowing that they won’t be back for months. It was weird knowing they’d be away from Tou-chan and Kaa-chan. Like they would be adults. But that was fine cause it was just like switching houses right? Like they lived in Japan and now they would be living in Hogwarts? But Sorting took him by surprise and now it felt like an upheaval. He thinks it kind of feels like how Ro felt on the train. His heart was beating really fast and he was trying very hard not to cry because Eli was being mean and Ro was just there and he felt really alone and he wanted to go home but he was not going to cry because he was not a baby even if Eli said he was. Eli was mean and Jonah just needed to reorient and adjust to the new setup and he had hoped Eli and Ro would help but they weren’t. And now Eli is reminding Jonah that he’s dumb and he already knew that just like how he knew that Ro was Tou-chan’s favorite because she’s always with him and that Eli was probably Kaa-chan’s because he’s so smart and Jonah just wanted to be Ro and Eli’s favorite but Eli was so mean and he just wanted to cry. But he’s not going to cry because he wasn’t a baby and he just had to remember that only babies cry and he was not a baby. He just had to breathe.

Oh for Merlin's sake -

Eli took another long and deep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose. This was why he would constantly call Jonah a baby because he was not going very far to proving it wrong. Even Rose was holding herself up against the wall like this was the end of the world, how could neither of them see that this was a good thing, they didn't have to be together all of the time, and they were making this very difficult to be able to enjoy any of this. He was trying to get used to being away from the rest of their family, and he was trying not to let it get to him that he wasn't going to be able to watch over them all the time now. As the oldest of the triplets it had always been his job to be the responsible one, and honestly, like Jericah, he had been the one to take the mantle of responsible sibling. Most of his other siblings were just... well, they were like the rest of his very loud and obnoxious family. Sayuri was okay, because she was mostly quiet - he noted with some annoyance that it appeared Jonah hadn't bothered to bring her (why couldn't she have been his twin instead of Rose and Jonah?) Corey could never seem to remember something he'd been told five minutes before, Yuki asked every question about everything under the sun, Hina got involved in everything somehow, without actually knowing what she was doing, Kakeru had a big mouth and didn't know when to shut up, Jericah could also be very loudly aggressive and Lewis? Merlin, he didn't even know where to start with Lewis. All he'd wanted was some time to be alone, to figure out who he was without his siblings constantly at his back - and now he couldn't even have that because Jonah had put it upon himself to decide that now he was going to develop a breathing problem. How was any of this supposed to be his responsibility alone?

"For f*ck's sake, why do I have to be the responsible one? Do I have to throw you off the tower for you to understand that sometimes you have to do things on your own instead of expecting me to be there for you all of the time?" Maybe it was harsh, but he was frustrated, he didn't want to think about the fact he as suddenly thrown into this place with no real idea of what was happening, having expected to be put into seperate houses, but not really thinking about what that would mean, and now being faced with the understanding that even with his siblings, he was still going to have to be the responsible one, because Jonah apparently couldn't be trusted to be a big boy on his own. "Grow up! You're not supposed to be a baby anymore."

Rose couldn't believe what she was hearing. Despite her inability to properly breathe, she didn't want them to continue fighting. "Eli! Don't be mean! Don't say those things!"

Sorting had just about wrapped up which meant James was finally free to move around the Great hall now that the feast had begun. Now, he could investigate the group of students who had snuck out of the hall while sorting had been going on, at least one of which was one of his newly minted Gryffindors. Once things settled down in the hall James stepped out into the entrance hall where he saw the three of them, there was yelling, swearing and one of them looked on the verge of tears. Siblings he thought as he looked between them. The twins were easy enough to spot, he wondered if their different coloured robes were the spark of whatever this was.

“You know,” James cleared his throat as he approached the three of them. “First years are expected to stay in the hall until they are escorted to their common room by prefects,” James looked between the three of them. “Does someone want to tell me why you’re yelling?”

Jonah had been doing a valiant effort to hold in his tears and not cry and he didn’t know what to do anymore because Eli was so mad and this was probably the first time he was this mad. And Eli wanted to throw him from the tower and he didn’t want that and there was cursing and now there was a professor and Jonah just couldn’t hold it anymore. And so he cried. Full-blown sobs. “Bathroom,” Jonah cried out, wiping the tears furiously. Eli was so mad and he was gonna call him a baby and they were gonna get in trouble and Kaa-chan was gonna be so mad even though he said he was a big boy now and Eli was mad. “I couldn’t find the bath-bathroom,” he said crying, the tears just won’t stop. “I’m sorryyyyy, don’t be mad anymore. I’m sorryyyyy.”

Eli couldn't believe that somehow managed to drag a professor out into the middle of their family affair - that tracked though because Jonah did have a habit of their parents always coming to the rescue whenever Jonah was about to cry. They were probably going to get into trouble now because no way was he going to believe Jonah's sad excuse of a bathroom thing. He hadn't believed it before they had come out here and been forced into this teary reality. It wasn't that Eli hated either of his siblings, it was that he was trying it damndest not to think about the fact they were in seperate houses and now Jonah had to bring it to his attention and really mostly he was worried about Rose, because she was the one who had the tendency to let stuff get to her that was perfectly preventable if only she would remember to breathe which was something clearly also Jonah needed help with. And now there was a professor here, and Eli wasn't happy about it at all. However, given there was a professor here, he had to be careful what he said. "Baka," he hissed at Jonah, because now he was pissed. "We're going to get detention on our first day, and it's going on our records and you know someone is gonna tell Kaa-Chan," he said, glancing over at Rose who looked pale with exhaustion and clearly was not happy about this either. Formulating an idea in his head, he put his hand around the back of Jonah's neck, and reached out to pull Rose a bit closer. "Rose is sick, so's Jonah, I'm being a good brother," he told the new arrival, staring him down, almost daring him to call him a liar. No way this guy spoke Japanese.

Rose nodded her head vehemently to try and help to sell the story her brother was telling, it was bad enough that her brothers were fighting, she didn't want them all to get a detention too! "Yes, I am sick!"

James raised his eyebrow as the Ravenclaw sibling seemed to take control of the situation and stepped forward to provide an excuse, one more believable then the crying one’s pathetic excuse about not being able to find the bathroom. Was James this pathetic when he had been a first year? Nah, he’d been awesome, clearly kids today were just soft. The slightest hint of a smirk crept onto James’ face before he managed to supress it, he couldn’t speak…whatever language they had been speaking to each other but he could only assume that they were doing so in order to hide their true intentions, though he suspected it wasn’t nefarious it was just three siblings struggling with being separated by the sorting hat. “Likely story,” He said to the boy before turning his attention to the girl in red trimmed robes, her he remembered, he remembered the names and faces of the students who had been sorted into Gryffindor that evening. “Miss Edogawa, we haven’t been formally introduced but I am Professor Cade, head of Gryffindor house, I don’t recommend getting on my bad side so early in your time here, you’re going to be stuck with me for seven years,”

Hinata was worried about her siblings since they went out of the Great Hall. Once, she actually worked up the nerve though to follow them, she found a professor talking to an angry Eli, crying Jo, and on-the-verge-of-panicking Ro. That… was not good. And well, Hina wasn’t sure how to intervene. Should she intervene? Unsure, she just stood there watching the whole thing happening.

Jonah could not stop crying and this professor was scary, though at the moment, everyone probably seemed a little scary. And he was going to stick to the story. Eli was gonna kill him if he didn’t and that just made him cry even more. He didn’t want to die. “Bath-bathroom! We need the bathroom,” he insisted even more. “She’s sick because she forgets to breathe and she’s gonna die if we don’t remind her to breathe,” he hiccuped and he wasn’t even really lying. And he probably should’ve used different words cause now, he heard the tell-tale sign of Ro forgetting to breathe again and now it was his fault too and the professors fault and so he just cried harder. “SEE! She can’t remember how to breathe and now - now we gotta - we gotta tell her - waaah.”

"Baka!" Eli hissed again, bringing his hand up to cuff the back of Jonah's head. It wasn't hard, but it would let Jonah know that he was messing this up big time and to maybe reel it in, they were all going to get into trouble and it was going to be entirely his idiot little brother's fault. "Damare!" he said, hitting him upside the back of the head again, honestly if this was going to keep happening he was going to have to become permanently affixed to his brother's collar to remind him constantly that he needed to "Hanashi o yamete!" immediately. He did manage to look over to Rose though, to see her momentarily pale face grow slightly paler, but he could see from her expression that she had her breathing somewhat under control, all he had to do now was control Jonah and they could be on their merry way. Merlin, he wasn't usually this physically violent but Jonah really needed to shut up.

Rose could see they seemed to be attracting an audience and so she pressed her hand sharply to her chest to try and quell the way her heart hammered behind her ears. She didn't like it, but these things happened sometimes. She looked up at the Professor, she could already feel it calming down, perhaps it was the presence of an adult, someone more equipped to handle this situation than she was. Eli would never hit her but Jonah was apparently fair game. "P-please, Sir, they're just upset. We don't want any trouble, right Eli?" Maybe if she could get the Professor to go away, they would stop.

James looked between the three children, he was momentarily concerned when Jonah, the crying Hufflepuff, started to wail about his sister not being able to breathe. The last thing James needed was to escort students to the hospital wing on the first day of term. He winced when the so far unnamed Ravenclaw sibling smacked his brother on the back of the head. “That’s enough, hit him again and you’ll spend so long in detention the only time you’ll see the sun is during flying lessons,” James hissed, a little more curt than he intended but he didn’t care, the first years were trying his patience. Merlin, he finally understood why Styx was…well Styx.

“You don’t have to be in trouble Miss Edogawa, its the first day of term, if as I suspect you’re all just a little upset about being separated by the sorting hat then you can take a moment to collect yourselves and we can all return to the feast, no detention, no points deductions,” He turned to the Ravenclaw sibling that Rose had called Eli. “And stop hitting your brother,” Merlin, he could have been talking to his own kids.

Jonah was having a difficult time to stop crying. He was sure Eli hated him now and they were never gonna be speaking again and he was going to be sent off to live with Aunt Ai and it’s just gonna be awful because Mikael was also mean. And he knew Eli hated him now because he’d never hit him before. His wailing softened into hiccups though when the professor said that they weren’t really in trouble which is good cause that meant they wouldn’t be getting detention. And now Jonah didn’t have to die but Eli still hated him and he had no idea how to fix that because he tried to say sorry and that didn’t work so maybe he really would get kicked out and he’ll have to live in the castle forever as a Hufflepuff. And so he just hiccupped and sniffled as he tried to stop crying because he didn’t think saying sorry again would work because Eli hated him. And Ro was gonna hate him too. He just wanted to go home.

Elijah kept a tight grip on his brother's neck, but didn't immediately say the first thing that came into his head since the Professor had spoken to him. You're not my dad, you can't tell me what to do, there were two things wrong with the statement. Three things, but two important things. The first thing was that as a Professor he could tell Eli what to do, and Eli was well aware of that. The second thing was that he didn't need to be his father to tell him what to do. Since, as a student at this school, he is expected to follow school rules, and since he's read the school charter, he knows that physical assault is generally frowned upon. With that thought in mind, Elijah, very reluctantly, and very slowly, let Jonah go. "Ato de kimitsu o shimasu," (roughly translates to: I'll be dealing with you later) he said into Jonah's ear before sidestepping his brother to ho and make sure his sister was alright. He swallowed visibly, though he couldn't say for sure if he was swallowing a retort or now. "Yes Sir," he said, unable to keep his tone as even as he would have liked. "My-our apologies." He said, glaring at all of the siblings that had come to watch. "Hina," he said, gesturing for her to head back inside. There was little point her being here, she couldn't be of any help to them, Merlin, he missed Rica.

Rose, trying not to cause more of a scene, moved closer to Jonah, effectively taking Eli's place, and ran her hands down his back to try and calm him. "It's okay brother, please be calm, everything is okay, we're not in trouble, Kyōju-Sensei said so."

@Jonah Edogawa @Professor James Cade

James was glad to see that the three of them were calming down. Though Eli seemed like he had more to say, but it was probably best for all involved that he swallowed whatever it was. He heard another name thrown around and looked over his shoulder at another girl who he assumed was related to them, based on Eli’s reaction to her. “Go back inside, all of you,” He said, making sure to address ‘Hina’, though she was free to leave on her own accord, it was just the first years that needed to be escorted by the prefects. “And we’ll forget this little incident, enjoy your first night at Hogwarts,” James said, remaining in place and sweeping his arm out towards the entrance to the Great hall, beckoning them back inside.

Jonah sniffled as his crying was finally coming to an end. Admittedly, he felt a little better though he was sure he looked like a mess. He couldn’t face Eli as they were being ushered back to the Great Hall and he only nodded at Ro’s reassurances. His triplets made it back inside first but Hina pulled him aside to clean him up before he went back with her to the Hufflepuff table. He was halfway decent by the time they sat down and he didn’t care what his housemates thought but he didn’t leave his older sister’s side until they it was time to leave. He hated this school.
