There was one place Lily hadn't dared to go yet. But today was the day. She was just too curious about the Forbidden Forest not to go and explore. Of course she knew they weren't allowed to but a little rule bending surely wouldn't do any harm, or would it?
Today Lily decided to go into the Forest, but one thing that scared her was the fact that she was going alone. Hopefully some other first year also decided to explore the Forest and they could explore together. But for now she was alone.
She started walking toward the trees and the entered the Forest. Suddenly a her whole body was covered in goosebumps. She walked further and further into the woods and it got darker and darker. She looked around and spotted a big rock. She walked toward it and decided to sit on it. As she sat down she heard footsteps. She looked around and spotted a boy...

Ruben was wondering around the Forbidden Forest, he was not sure how but he had convinced himself to go there. He packed a bag with some snacks, a blanket, a flashlight and a compass, just in case he would get lost.
He was walking around when he heard footsteps, he looked around and didn't made a sound, he decided to turn off his flashlight in order not to attract any creature that might be close by. Then he distinguished a shadow, almost seemed a human shadow, it was very hard to tell due to the darkness but he decided to quietly follow the shadow, maybe it was an adventurous Hogwarts students who had decided to go there to.
He saw the shadow sitting on top of a rock and decided to approach it quietly, as he was approaching it he was more sure that it was a human so his jitters went away. As he was walking to whoever that was he grabbed his flashlight ready to turn it on again.
"Who are you?" he said almost in a shout and turning on his flashlight pointing at the person's face. It seemed like a girl, a Ravenclaw blonde girl who was really scared but he decided to take some caution, who knew what type of shapeshifter beasts could exist.

Lily stood in fear. She froze in her track, but when a flashlight shown right in her eyes, shecovered her face with her hands. It took a while for he to realise it was a person. Her mind went crazy trying to think of possible creatures it could be. Finally she said " Get the light out of my face! I'm Lily. I'm not a beast. " Lily couldn't help but sit down. Her legs felt as if they were made out of jelly.
When she looked at the boy again she could tell he was a Slytherin. She looked around to see if he was alone. It appeared he was, but why he was carrying a back pack, Lily didn't know.
But her biggest worry now was that he would tell a Professor, and maybe she'd lose house points. That was the one thing Lily never wants to experience. So she decided to make a deal " I won't tell if you won't. Who are you anyway? " Lily asked curiously

Ruben looked at her, he recognised the girl from the Astronomy classes, the one that waved at his sister right on the first or second class he couldn't tell precisely.
"I think neither of us would benefit if one of us decided to tell the entire school we were here so..." he said completing the sentence with an explicit look that meant that he would not be saying a word about it.
He pointed the flashlight at the floor so they would still be able to see something but at the same time to keep the beam of light from being noticed "Sorry, would be better with a Lumos spell though" he said chuckling while looking at his flashlight "I'm Ruben Right, a Slytherin in case you haven't noticed" he said with a smile and turning his back to her to show her his green backpack with the Slytherin house emblem on it.
"So what brings you here?" he said curiously, he knew exactly why he was there but she didn't knew what the girl was doing. His sister might trust her but he didn't yet, who knows what she could be up to, the idea of her being sent there to spy on him crossed the boy's mind for a second but then he remembered that no one knew he was there so that would be an impossible hypothesis.

Lily was still standing there with her hands infront of her face, trying to block the light. " Good. " Lily said and sighed with relief. The knot in her stomach disappeared when she realized that she wouldn't get in trouble for being in the Forest.
Once the boy finally pointed the flashlight at the ground,Lily revealed her face. She could she the boy clearly now. He looked familiar, but she couldn't make out where she had seen him before. When he introduced himself Lily smiled. He was Veronica's brother, one of the triplets. " Nice to meet you. I'm a Ravenclaw. " Lily said pointing at the emblem on her pocket.
She smiled at the boy a little awkwardly. She didn't know what to say, especially since she was snooping around in the Forbidden Forest. " Well,I was just curious about the Forest. I haven't been here long though. Why are you here?Planning to catch something in the backpack of yours?" Lily asked teasingly

There was an awkward silence between them for a but, they both knew they shouldn't be there and even thought they said they were not going to snitch on each other the whole thing was still awkward.
The blonde girl was the first breaking the silence making him a question "Not really. The backpack only has snacks and things that might be useful like ropes, a knife, extra batteries, the essentials" he said. He wasn't sure if he should reveal the true reason of why he was there so he decided to gave her half of the truth. After all she was still a stranger.
"Just came here looking for magical creatures" he said looking at her "and you?" he said wondering why was she there if when he found her she was sitting on a rock.

Lily wasn't one to usually break the silence , but this was and exception. She wasn't very comfortable around the boy since he was a starter and had a knife with him. She didn't know if she could trust him. Why he was really out there Lily had no clue, what first year would dear going out there alone looking for creatures.
Lily wasn't even sure why she had come out here alone, but there she was a young Ravenclaw alone in the Fobidden Forest who had encountered a Slytherin.
" To be honest, I have no idea what I was thinking coming out here. It's the one place I haven't explored " Lily said softly. She looked the boy in the eyes and smiled.
Lily sat down on the rock one again and asked the Slytherin " Well do you wanna sit down? "

Ruben looked at his watch, he still had a little time before the time was right. He was looking for a specific magical creature, one he had found in the books of the library. He had no idea if they were studying it during the Care of Magical Creatures class, when they started having it.
He decided to took the girl's offer and took a sit beside her "So... have you met other people from my house? I might know them. I don't think I have met any Ravenclaws" he said trying to make a conversation topic, he was trying not to look too suspicious. She wouldn't say anything the last thing he needed was a girl mindid his business even though that having company in there at that time of the night sounded really appealing.

Lily noticed the boy looking at his watch, she didn't know what he was looking for, but he was timing it. She wouldn't mind joining in on the hunt, asking as the creature he was searching for wasn't dangerous.
Lily smiled as the boy excepted her offer to sit down. She made sit to leave quite a gap between them, since she still wasn't sure if she could trust him.
He started talking, Lily listened as he spoke " Yeah, I've met a few Slythrrins.. . Eustace, Dililah and your sister Veronica as friends and Ali as an enemy." Lily replied

Ruben looked at her embarrassed "Wow! You know more Slytherin people than I do. From the one you talked about I only know Veronica." he said laughing "You clearly give me a run for my money when it comes to social skills". Ruben took a mental note to work on that, he clearly would need some more friends now that his brother had decided to leave Hogwarts unexpectedly.
He had just been so focused in his classes that he had absolutely no time for his social life but that had to change soon so he considered telling the girl what he was doing but he changed his mind and decided to keep everything under wraps.
"I'm sorry you met V. She is... a tough cookie to say the least I know how she can be" he said smiling at her, he knew how his sister was and she wasn't the most friendly person at first sight so she probably didn't have the best impression of her but he was glad that Lily considered her a friend.

Lily smiled at his reaction. She didn't think of herself as a social freak...Not at all, she was actually the opposite. Which made her wonder, if she wasn't very social, then the boy must have been quite antisocial. But it didn't bother her much. " No, I'm sure there are a lot of other people who have loads more friends and social skills that me. " Lily said and chuckled.
Lily still had no idea what he was really doing and she ached to find out. She heard him saying sorry about meeting his sister. But she had no idea why. " I'm happy I met her, just it had to happen twice before we got along. " Lily replied. Veronica was quite bossy the first time around, but actually she isn't as bad as she appears to be.

Ruben couldn't believe that Lily was actually serious, she clearly had met a lot of friends so she definitely had social skills, and pretty developed ones "I usually am good at socialising with people, I've just been slacking. I should definitely meet some more people though, that would definitely come in handy" he said giving his watch another glace, he was still on time.
The Slytherin boy couldn't help but laugh at Lily's comment about her sister, Veronica was definitely a hard person to get along with "Trust me, I know! I know her for eleven years and me and her still don't get along sometimes. For example my brother just transferred to Ilvermorny and while I was devastated she was so calm that I just wanted to scream at her, it's like sometimes she forgets she is human and she is supposed to have emotions" he said, not mentioning other aspects of Veronica like her usual vanity, lack of empathy and manipulative abilities. On the other hand she could be a really good person too, once you would get in her good side she would face the whole world to defend you and she is actually very resourceful "If she ever bothers you she come to me. I have an infinite amount of embarrassing stories that she wouldn't like people to know. With her you have to fight fire with fire, that's the only way she will ever stop attacking people and see them as equal" he said giving the girl a wink. He knew that it probably wasn't correct of him to give out his sister like that but Lily seemed and good girl and the Slytherin boy decided to warn her before she started world war three with Veronica over a stupid thing like a cupcake or something.

Lily nodded her her side to side and the boy's comment about his social life. Lily didn't really understand why he was slacking at such a great time in life. But it had nothing to do with her really.
She was quite surprised that the boy opened up to her so quickly, one moment he was all awkrawd and the next he was telling her about his brother who transferred to Ilvermony. " Oh, why did your brother transfer? Did something happen? " Lily asked curiously.
She couldn't understand why he was so kind to her. But it didn't bother her a bit. She laughed at the boy's comment about his sister, one thing she didn't expect from Veronica was that she did embarrassing stuff. " I will keep that in mind, thank you. " Lily said with a smile.
She noticed the boy looking at his watch again, this time she just had to ask" Mind telling me what you are really doing here? " Lily asked the boy pointing at his watch

Lily had just asked the million dollar question, Why did he transferred?, the Slytherin boy had no idea what happened as it was all so sudden so he couldn't exactly tell much to her as much as he wanted to "I honestly don't know, he just said he didn't exactly felt like he was fitting in. Veronica says he'll be back before third year, I'd like to believe so, we never really got separated like this before". Ruben knew that eventually each would follow their own path ending up separating but he wasn't expecting for that to happen so soon, besides he always thought Beronica would be the first leaving them.
The boy didn'r really wanna give out much so he gave her the same answer as he previously had provided "Just out here to see if there's any magical creatures around". What he didn't mention was that he was there for a specific creature, one that he would probably have more luck seeing at night or at least he thought so. The disadvantage was that the creature was black so it wouldn't be easy to find. He kept watching his watch waiting for midnight, in every story he had read midnight was always the hour where the impossible happened so he was confident that he would found the magical creatures he wanted at midnight.

Lily saw the boy's face drop and his answer was quite surprising. If she had sibling, she would have hoped they didn't just take off without an explanation. " Oh,I'm sorry to hear. Well I hope he comes back sop. " Lily said in a comforting voice.
Once again Lily got the same answer as before, though she knew it wasn't the whole truth, she accepted that she had to find out little by little " Okay, any specific creature? " Lily asked curiously. She knew he was waiting for the right time to look for something. Then she heard somethig... Something moved between a nearby bush. " Did you hear that? " Lily asked softly. She was super frightened. She looked around and grabbed Ruben's flashlight. She switched it of and waited... It was almost midnight

Ruben gave Lily a small smile. He appreciated that she cared but at the moment there wasn't much she could do.
He looked at the girl when she asked another question, she was definitely getting suspicious, he was going to try to lie harder. From experience he knew that if he lied to her now and made it obvious if he lied after without looking so obvious it would look like he would be telling the truth, at least that worked with his parents "Oh nothing special really" he said giving her a weird smile, hopefully she would suspect he was lying.
Once he saw the face expression of the Ravenclaw girl change from a neutral expression to a 'i'm not buying it' one he decided to finish up with the second part of his slightly elaborated lie "Fineeeee, you got me. I'm looking for Nifflers, those creatures are adorable even though they'd probably rob every shiny thing on you" he said looking defeated. He knew that nifflers weren't exactly a nocturnal animal but hopefully Lily wouldn't know.
The gurl suddenly got startled by something "Hear what?" he said not quite understanding why she got so suddenly frightened. "Hey! That's my flash-" he said, not even finishing the sentence as he saw Lily turning it off. He got quiet. He gave a few steps towards Lily, trying to be as quiet as possible, he came up behind her and tried to look to wherever she was looking but he couldn't see much, it was too dark. "What are we waiting for?" he said in a whisper.

"Waiting for me perhaps?" Angel said, enjoying the drama as he emerged from the undergrowth. The effect lost some of its impact as he had to quickly brush a few stray leaves and cobwebs from his shoulders, but it was fun none-the-less. "I could be wrong, but I'm pretty certain that first years aren't suppose to be out this late, let alone in the Forest," He said, surveying the young pair with an arched eyebrow.

Surveying the Forest boundary was always a bit of a drag, but something about it just drew in students like moths to a deadly and annoyingly overgrown flame, so patrol Angel must. It hadn't been hard to spot these two either, with their voices carrying through the still night air and their flashlight whipping around off and on. "Might a suggest a stealthier approach next time. Come on, up you get, we're going back to the castle," He said, waving his hand impatiently in the hopes the kids would get a move on without too much fanfare.

Ruben blushed. They had been caught, Damn it, he thought to himself. He had no idea who the guy was but he remembered seeing him in the welcoming banquet so he was probably a part of the Hogwarts faculty.
The boy quickly found a loophole in the man's speech and quickly answered back "You said first years aren't supposed to be up this late and in the Forest... does that mean we will get the perks of being up late AND being in the Forest in our next years?" he said smirking and trying maybe to get a laugh out of him.
"Mind if I ask who are you?" the Slytherin boy said not moving, he didn't really liked to be bossed around, especially from people he didn't know "Your suggestion was taken into consideration. Next time we will be stealthier, promise" Ruben laughed.
The boy knew that Lily was still listening and he did told her he was looking for Nifflers but since there was an adult present he decided to ask something that was related to his real reason of visiting the Forest "Do you know if there are any Thestrals in here?" the boy said excitedly. That was the reason he was in the Forest, to see some Thestrals. He had read about them in a book in the library and they seemed rather bizarre but intriguing creatures so he decided to go find them himself.
Before giving any step forward the boy looked at Lily, if she didn't move so wasn't he. He looked at her looking for a sign of what to do, if she decided to leave they would but if she decided to struggle a bit and try to stay for a bit more the boy would certainly stand by her side.

Lily's legs turned to jelly when she heard someone talk, but yet never in her life had she been so relieved to see a Professor. Then a thought popped into her head... They were caught and they would most probably lose points for it... A knot of stress formed in her tummy and then she managed to say something " I guess you must be a Professor? Does this mean we are going to lose points? " Lily stuttered out. She looked at Ruben and then mubled to him " Now what? "
Lily managed to smile a little when Ruben joked about being wealthier next time, but Lily doubted that there would be a next time. She stood up from the rock they were sitting on and followed the Professor back to the castle, all she could think about was her mum, how disappointed she would be. She gave Ruben a deadly look, how could he be so calm and think about was Thestarls.
She followed the Professor back to the castle with jelly legs and a knot in her stomache, it must have been past midnight and Lily could hardly keep her yes open.

Angel regarded the Slytherin boy curiously as he asked his questions and shaking his head in amusement. "Well, nobody said that... But the secret to getting privileges is not breaking the rules in the first place," Angel said magnanimously, motioning the pair to their feet. He was grateful the Ravenclaw girl seemed to be coming along without a fight, considering previous encounters with students in the forest, especially the younger ones. "Thestrals? I don't know, I've never seen one but that doesn't mean much. You'd be better off asking Professor Ateara or Professor Faye about that," He said, scratching at his chin and giving the Slytherin a speculative look. "Is that why you two are out here? Thestral hunting?" He asked, wondering what on earth a pair of first years would want to do with a thestral. Sometimes it was better off not knowing.

At least the girl seemed suitably contrite about the whole thing, practically shaking as she got up to follow him. Angel was just grateful she wasn't putting up much a of a fuss, it was far too late to be tromping through the forest after students. "Hmm, for tonight let's settle with a stern warning and going straight up to your dorms. Next time the call of adventure gets to you, maybe go poke around the dungeons or something instead. And not after curfew," He added, not really wanting to have to deal out punishments when all Angel wanted was to get to bed himself. And at least the dungeons weren't a place Angel typically had to go so it would be someone else's problem. "Now stick close, last thing I need is the Headmistress upset cause I let some first years get eaten by something," Angel said ominously, lighting his wand to lead the way out.

Well, Ruben couldn't have a come back for that, he knew the man was right about the priveleges and rules thing so he couldn't exactly come up with something to contradict that.
"Who is that and that?" he asked, while walking, about the names the guy had just referred "Wait, I presume those must be the Care of Magical Creatures Professors? I'm a first a year so I don't know if they were exactly willing to talk to me about that" Ruben said rolling his eyes a little, he didn't wanna seem rude but the truth was that Thestrals were kind Dark Creatures, even though they weren't necessarily evil, and he could bet that no one would talk to a first year about something like that.
Ruben started talking, ready to tell the man the reason why he was there, yes he was looking for Thestrals "Well..." he started talking, but the he remembered Lily wasn't there for the Thestrals. Actually he didn't really knew why she was there, he found the 'I just want to explore' answer kind of suspicious but the last thing he needed were problems for both him and her, "Yes! Yes we are! You caught us" he said forcing a laugh, Damn it!, he thought, I'm not being convincing enough, so he did what every great liar would do, he created a whole plot.
"So you see, I was at the library and I came across some books about Thestrals and I thought 'why not go to the Fobidden Forest to go look for some?'" that part was true, that's the secret of good lies, they always need to have a bit of truth to avoid slip ups and to make you look more confident saying them "But I had the stupid idea to come here alone. Then, before coming, I found Lily, and she offered to come along because she didn't want me to go alone in case something bad happened and here we are" he said smiling, the guy didn't exactly need to know that they had just met and that was something that would stop him from asking questions. Ruben looked at Lily, she owed him a big one.
"Are you kidding me?! Something could have eaten us?!" he said looking panicked and almost in a yell. Then his face suddenly changed to a smirk "That's so cool"

Lily followed with jelly legs. Still surprised how calm Ruben was, the Professor didn't seem to angry, which was a huge advantage. It also made her wonder why the Professor would tell Ruben to speak to other Professor, as if he would encourage a next adventure. When Ruben replied rolling his eyes, the first though that crossed Lily's mind was that he was just the slightest bit rude and disrespectful. But when the Professor asked if THEY were Thestral hunting, Lily knew she had to disagree, bit then Ruben started talking and staging her into something. She was never ever part of his little adventure. But then again, how could she explain why she was there. So she just went along with Ruben and agreed " Yes Professor, you caught Us. " Lily said as sarcastic as possible. She looked at Ruben with anger in her eyes, if looks could kill, Ruben Right would be dead.
As they walked further Lily walked right next to her new friend , then she whispered " How dare you drag me into your little lie? ". Then the Professor's next words scared her even more. Something could have eaten them and Ruben thought it was cool... " COOL?! " Lily exclaimed " Do you think dying is COOL? " Lily couldn't imagine why someone would think that unless they were a bit crazy.

Ruben tried not to be to loud answering to the girl, he didn't understood why she was mad, he was doing her a favour "Do you really wanna answer his questions about why you were here or you wanna play along? I bet he'd love to hear why you were here" he said looking at her hoping to put some sense into her. Clearly this girl preferred honesty instead of saving her skin, he would take note on that. He was about to tell the man that he was there alone after all and throw Lily under the bus since she looked so angry about being part of his white lie but he saw that doing that wouldn't exactly make her happier so he decided to keep silent and pray that she would understand.
Ruben laughed a little a the girl's exasperating voice "You clearly are a cup half-empty kind of girl aren't you?" he said looking and her still smiling "I'm not saying I'd like to die but how cool would it be to see a dragon? Or a chimera? They could all eat us, yes, if we weren't careful but it would be amazing to see them. Unlike you I have a cup half-full view of things" he said sticking his tongue out to her and keep laughing, she was certainly not very adventurous, he was still wondering why she was there in the first place but she certainly was funny.

"You'd be surprised how chatty the professors are if it stops you from running off into the forest to find out yourself," Angel said loftily. "And yes, Professor Faye and Ateara are the Care of Magical Creatures professors. You probably walked past this offices this evening without realizing," He said, stretching a bit and trying to stifle a yawn as they continued to pick their way through the underbrush. Angel had to raise another eyebrow as the boy explained more about their little threstal hunt. There was a reason he preferred sticking with the upper year students. The lower year kids were always so weird and energetic. And not entirely convincing, but Angel wasn't about to push if it meant everyone could get back to bed quicker.

The two kids seemed to be having a bit of a spat though and Angel had to watch impassively as the two squabbled under their breath at each other. Very smooth. If they weren't careful Angel was going to have to give them detention and then he'd have to contact their heads of houses and the whole thing was turning into a headache. "At least Ms uh. Your Ravenclaw friend here seems to have some common sense," He said tiredly, shifting a branch aside for the group and sighing with relief as the castle grounds came into view ahead.

Ruben blushed a little by the professor's comment but inside his mind he was furious, how dared he telling him that he didn't have common sense. With all his strengths the Slytherin boy faked a smile and said "Yup! She is the most down to earth of the two of us. That's why I hang out with her, she keeps me on my toes" he said chuckling. He would need to talk to Lily sometime after to clear the lies but for now he hoped that for the sake of both she pretended that they were long date friends.
The first year tried to change the subject in order for the professor to stop getting nosy "So, yawning so much, are you already tired? Oh yeah! Classes...is that taking a lot of your energy? I bet being a professor isn't easy...I would never dare to be one" he said with a repulsive face. Actually being a professor was not on the bottom of Ruben's possibilities, he always liked to study and teaching stuff could actually be fun but there were still a few other jobs that he would rather have.
