Given his family, Lewis knew he had to try out. It was competitive, he could see that, but he was sure it wouldn't be hard to show off, since he'd been playing chaser since almost before he was born. Maybe that was not entirely the case, since his mother was a beater professionally before she'd become a Coach, so he liked to think he'd been flying at least that long. Still, it wouldn't hurt to show everyone how good he was, even as a first year. He headed down to the pitch, eager to show everyone an Edogawa flight, grinning when he saw Rose who gave him a little wave before paying attention back to the Captains. Rose was an alternate, and probably would be for a while, he suspected, but he didn't think it was too bad of a thing. He was hoping her tryout would go well today, and he hyped her up in Japanese quickly before joining the group of tryouts for the year.
He adjusted his gloves and the hold on the borrowed broom, he wasn't really expecting to make the team this year, first years rarely did, even if Jonah had last year, but he wasn't complaining, he could just keep trying. He didn't think it would matter too much really, and there was probably a couple of open spaces too anyway. He had spent the lead up, practicing, not that he needed much, he thought, since he'd been playing chaser for years. He quickly moved to practice with the other chaser hopefuls and waited until his turn bouncing forward when he realised he was next. "Lewis Edogawa! Trying for Chaser!" Some of these people were asking for more than one position, he gave those students a stare, because you couldn't just play any position. It's not like a seeker can play beater, or a chaser be a keeper. He absolutely did not understand how someone could want to play the game and not even know their position. It just seemed so silly to him.
The chasers drill was pretty simple, and he wasn't surprised really by that. Catch the quaffle, get it to the other end of the pitch, pass to a team mate, score. All of this was with the caveat of "if you can," but he didn't think it was going to be terribly hard, he'd probably been playing longer than some of the people in the team had even been playing officially. It helped that his mother was the Tengu Coach, so she always knew what she was looking for, but it also meant that all of them knew the rules of Quidditch, they all had their positions and they all liked to play. The fact that Hina wasn't on her house team more or less came down to her not being as into Quidditch as the rest of them, but she was just as good of a keeper as anyone else. She wasn't for grand standing, though from what he'd heard she was pretty aggressive off the pitch. Lewis quickly caught the quaffle when it was thrown to him and then raced his way across the pitch, ducking under at least two bludgers. He got hit by a third, but it only affected him for a moment because he was used to being his by bludgers, when they used to play at home, Ru and Rica didn't waste any energy on holding back.
"Eto... pass, pass, pass-!" his motto was helping him remember what he needed to do as he tossed the quaffle to a team mate, it might have been a little high, but he was used to flying faster than this, so he hadn't accounted for the speed and rate of falling. Soon he received a quaffle back and he quickly headed for the hoops, hurling the quaffle at the hoops and celebrating when it managed to zip through the middle one. "Yossha!" He finished off his try out and then quickly made his way back down, bowing to both captains. "Ah- Arigatou!" Then he stepped aside for the next flyer.
