Lowan headed to the quidditch pitch. it was time for try outs and as the last co-captain graduated he had the team to himself again. he headed to the pitch. he had ben approached by a couple of the youngest students wanting to try out. whilst he was usually cautious of the first years on the team. last years proved to be a good investment and these two wee from a family that seemed to have quidditch in their blood so she said that they could try out. he headed to the pitch with some spare balls. "Okay guys we forfeited the last game last year otherwise we could have done much better. he let a serious look cross his face.
"everyone has to write their name and position on the paper. fly a lap as fast as you can. then if you were on the team last year you are done but can play if you want to. new members take to the sky and show me what you are made of. chasers try and score goals, keepers sage goals, seekers catch one of the snitches and and beaters have fun i have a few targets flying around to try and hit." he said explaining the tryout to the team. it was much the same as usual. this year there were a few targets flying around coloured in each of the other other houses colours.

Link showed up for the practice, he knew first years normally didn't get to play on the team however he hoped he would be one of the lucky ones that did. He carried his bag out along with an old school broom. He tried to act like he was older so they wouldn't immediantly dismiss him as he wrote on the paper.

Link Potter
Position: Beater
*Willing to play any position if I can be on the team please please please with butterbeer on top!

Link wanted to be a Beater but just being on the team would be good enough for him. He mounted the school broom, grabbed his bat and released his bludger that had been enchanted to only go after him. James had helped him and he'd been practicing alot so he hoped he would be able to prove that he was good enough. The school brooms were old, hopefully if he made the team his mother would buy him a newer one.

Due to it's age, it kept trying to fly to the left and wasn't able to move as fast as some of the newer ones. Luckily for Link, his size helped to counter the slowness of the broom as he flew around the Quidditch pitch. He wasn't the fastest but he did feel as though his time wasn't bad.

Link turned around to see his bludger flying right at him, he panicked for a brief moment before wacking it away. It didn't hit any of the targets however Link flew after it before it could recover from the hit and wacked again this time hitting the Slytherin colorered one.

The bludger recovered and began flying towards him again, he was able to hit it however the force caused the old broom to bounce back which knocked the bludger off it's inteded target. Link was starting to feel nervous about his chances as he wished he'd had a better broomstick to fly on. He waited for the bludger to come back to him as he wacked it again with similar results as the last time, it was closer to the target but it still missed.

Link realized that he would have to get stronger if he wanted to be able to counter the force of the bludger and any defects his broomstick might have. It didn't matter at the moment however as he tried a third time pushing forwards on the broom as he hit the bludger. He was able to succesffuly counter the force of the hit as it knocked into a Ravenclaw target, this time the bludger actually went through it.

Knowing that it was now or never to impress the Captain of the team, Link flew after the bludger and quickly wacked it again so that it hit the Hufflepuff target on his first try. He felt that he'd shown his skills enough as he flew down towards the ground and waited for the bludger to come after him. As expected the Bludger knocked the wind out of him as he tackled it and strapped it back into his bag. Link thought about trying to explain the problem with the broomstick but remembered something his Aunt Ravyn had said, "Nobody likes to hear excuses in Quidditch" she had said to him, so instead he merely thanked Lowan and walked over towards the stands to watch the rest of the tryouts.

James had seen the notice pinned to the Gryffindor Bulleting Board about the Quidditch trials, and with Professor Kingsley's words ringing in his ears still about joining the team again, James had picked up his broom and walked down to the pitch. Over the past week or so, he'd been getting back into playing, but he was still slightly out of practice on the seeker front. Maybe a couple of games as an alternate with regular practices would help he mused. He had plenty of time ahead of it yet. Entering onto the pitch, he saw Lowan Kickett standing by the side. Walking over he smiled warmly at him "Lovely day for this, eh? Thought I'd make a return to Quidditch now, seeing as Professor Kingsley wants me playing again. Always spacd for another alternate I hope, unless you've suddenly lost your seeker?" He trailed off, secretly hopefuly, but also pretty certain that they hadn't. Apart from himself, he'd known no one who'd actually left halfway through their Hogwarts years, and he doubted there'd be a space on the team anymore, regardless of whether he had co-captained it for a season or not.

Scribbling his name and position down on a piece of parchment, James mounted his broom and kicked off. Following instructions, he leant close to his broom and flew a rapid circuit around the pitch before coming to a hover near the centre of the pitch once more. He rose steadily higher, searching for a snitch. By ridiculous chance, there happened to be one buzzing around his head, and his arm snaked out and caught it. Feeling like a slight cheat regardless, he released it and shut his eyes for a while. Once open again, he slowly circled the pitch, trying to notice a flash of gold, or any indication that the snitch was somewhere. On his fourth flyby of the entrance, he noticed it, and he dived, loving the feeling of the wind on his face that he now realised he had so desperately missed. Pulling out at the last minute, he chased the elusive orb across the pitch, before climbing up behind the goal hoops. As he twisted in midair, he felt the snitch hiss past his face, and once again he launched himself forward, inching closer to his prize. His broom accelerated him steadily towards it, and he slowly reached out a hand and grabbed it, loving the feel of the cool metal beneath his fingers. He may have left for a while, but he still retained a lot of his skill he realised as he shook his hand triumphantly in the air.

Matt Greene looked forward to Quidditch once more. He might not have been on the team for long, but he already proved to be a good seeker. Both he and his brother had a small talent for Quidditch, for different positions respectively. He entered the Quidditch pitch, just in time to hear what James said about suddenly losing their seeker. Matt cleared his throat and smirked, "Not yet. But hey Lowan, good to see you." Matt did not know the boy well at all, but he was just more interested in playing Quidditch. There was nothing wrong with that, was there? He heard that all he needed to do was go around the pitch once. He mounted his broom, and did the lap with haste. He made sure not to disturb other players, since he did not want to hinder their chances of being on the team either. Matt was soon done with his lap, and landed onto the grass once more. He looked forward to see who all was trying out.

Ailsa wandered out to the pitch, she knew that Archie would be here shortly and they could begin another year of quidditch. She had practiced over the break and was sure she was up to speed with it all. It was just going to be great fun, and the teen was hoping that they might once again win. Perhaps, they would play longer games and be able to continue playing, since she hadn't gotten many opportunities during the last few games. She walked out on to the pitch and smiled at the people already there, she looked at the players currently on the field and just smiled slightly, she couldn't wait for Archie to get there so that they could mess around in the air while they were practicing. It would be good fun, she was sure of it!

Lyra arrived on the pitch with her broom in tow. She had borrowed one of the better school brooms for the tryout. She was excited to have the opportunity to play Quidditch with an actual team instead of just her family members, not that it wasn't fun. Quidditch was something her entire family loved. During big family gatherings, Lyra and Link would play with their mum, Aunt Cyndi, Aunt Katheryn, Uncle Gabriel, Noah, and even Uncle Cameron on occasion even though he said it wasn't his sport.

Several other people were on the Pitch when she arrived. Lyra waved to her brother in the air before walking over to the team captain. She had already gotten permission from Lowan prior to the tryouts. "Hello. I'm Lyra Potter and I will be trying out for the position of Chaser." she said confidently. She hopped on her broom and pushed hard off of the ground.

Lyra started off by showing her speed since that was important for Chasers. Lowan needed to know that she could fly fast and control her broom. She zipped back and forth across the pitch as fast as she possibly could, taking sudden turns and drops. She had been flying (on a toy broom) since she could walk. The Gryffindor girl grinned widely as she dropped back to the ground to get a Quaffle. She spent the rest of her tryout taking shots at the Keeper and passing back and forth with the other chasers. Lyra made four of the six goals. She was pleased as she walked back to the castle with her twin.

((OOC: I know this isn't part of OSW however I have to say Favortism!!! Link is using a school broom and Lyra shows up with a Scarlet Streak... definately gonna have a talk with mum :glare: ))

Link's jaw dropped as he saw his twin sister show up on the field with a top of the line broom. Here he was using a school broom while she got to use something that was completely uncomparible. "I love you both equally, there's no reason to get jealous, mum's don't show favortism" Link said to himself in a tone mocking his mother. Anyone that heard him would probably think he was jealous and they would be absolutely correct.

Skye made her way down to the pitch with her broom over her shoulder. The try outs were due to begin soon and she wanted to support the trialists and to see the team together for the first time that year. Skye was feeling confident about the upcoming season. Already dressed in her practice robe she headed straight into the stadium to greet her teammates. When everyone had arrived Lowan told everyone to get on their brooms and take a lap of the pitch. Eager to fly Skye swung her leg over her broom and took off, she bolted round the pitch as fast as she could thrilled to have the wind blowing through her hair once more. Skye felt alive as she came back to the ground and was even more eager to get the season started.

Archie strolled from the Gryffindor common room to the quidditch pitch with his smile wide and his broom in tow. In spite of Orwell staying at his house during the holidays and other numerous distractions, he had managed to practice often and was confident in his ability to continue saving goals for the Gryffindor team. When he arrived at the pitch he gave Ailsa a friendly nudge with his elbow as he listened to the captain's words. When the captain had finished speaking and the trials officially began Archie quickly mounted his broom and kicked off the ground into the air. It did not take Archie long to complete his lap around the pitch, so when he was finished he stayed in the air in case any potential teammates needed someone to block the quaffle for them.

Just stepping at the pitch made his breathing rapid and shallow. JT could feel his pulse pounding in his temples and unconsciously gnawed on the inside of his cheek. He had no idea how he did managed to show up at the pitch that morning with his broom. Playing for Gryffindor was something he secretly always wanted but he never seemed to muster enough courage to do so. He wouldn't have decided to arrive at the pitch today either if it wasn't that girl he had practiced with a couple of days ago. She had breathed courage into him and they had promised to try out both of them this year. While he was among the group, he scanned the faces surrounding him to find her. Not seeing her there made his insecurity creep in again but there was no going back now.

"Hi. I'm JT Hunt. I play beater." he introduced himself to the captain and named the post he liked to play the most. Once his name was registered, he mounted his broom and soared. After a lap, he received a bat to do what he knew to do best. He circled the pitch, chasing bludgers, sending them mostly towards chasers to make their attempt to score more difficult. Now that he was on a broom his confidence returned with a warm rush. He wanted to find Doriana and thank her. Didn't really matter if he was going to play in the end for the team. He had just managed break out of his shell, step out of his comfort zone and it felt so right. He didn't stop striking bludgers, either towards other players or deflecting them. He surely had to thank the girl.

Stepping into the fresh air, Doriana felt revitalized and contented sighed as she stared around the pitch. The gryffindor girl liked a lot the outdoors. She was sometimes asphyxiating within the walls of the castle and she knew that this was her call to find a good reason and get out to the grounds. She was usually sneaking into the forest, in the lush embrace of nature. This semester she was going to add another reason to find herself out of the castle. The girl liked Quidditch but she hadn't really considered playing for her house before meeting that guy who was one year older than her. Sometimes at weekends she was teaming up with other students to engage in friendly matches. They were more fun and there was clean competition when there wasn't a Quidditch cup to make waves. Last time she had visited the pitch for a friendly match, she met JT. A nice guy, natural beater with the bat being the extension of his arm. However, for some reason he was holding up and avoided the try outs. Doriana thought he was insecure for some reason she couldn't really see but ultimately didn't matter. After practicing together that day, they promised to show up at the try outs and test their skills and luck. As she had told him, they had nothing to lose but everything to gain.

She joined the group and a spark filled her gray eyes as she recognized the tall boy at the front. JT was just registering, mounting his broom and flying for a lap around the pitch. She smiled to herself as she walked towards the captain, glad that JT had actually listened to her and didn't cower. "I'm Doriana Strati. I would like to try out for chaser." She said excited and glanced at JT who was flying at the other end of the pitch. Once her name was written down, she hopped on her broom and kicked the ground beneath to propel herself into the air. JT was finishing his lap as she was beginning and she saw him taking a bat. She had seen him using it and knew he had nothing to fear.

Once she was done, she flew over where other chasers were passing the quaffle. She joined them practiced passing for a while with them. At some point she scooped the ball and bolted towards the goalposts. She caught the keeper unprepared and the quaffle passed through the lower, left goalpost. She liked unexpected offenses like that and certainly going to be her strategy in case she was going to play at a match. She stuck around the chasers, passing and giving a shot at scoring but the keeper was good and ready, letting nothing to pass through. She hoped he was going to perform similarly during an actual game. Eventually, the girl grew tired of attempting scoring and being constantly blocked by that keeper so she searched for JT and flew towards him. "Hey!" She greeted and ducked to avoid the bludger he struck. "See? Isn't that bad, is it? Nothing to lose but everything to gain." She reminded him with a warm smile and hovered beside him.

Jean arrived to the pitch with his polished broom in tow. His quidditch robes flapped behind him as he headed to Lowan. "Jean Snow. Chaser" he stated, his French accent strong. He glanced around, surprised at how many young students were already on the pitch. He fastened his goggles, ready to take to the sky. He pushed off, doing his lap quickly and without talking to anybody. Jean was pretty cordial with several of his teammates but he wasn't close to any of them. It wasn't all by choice. They just didn't talk to him much for whatever reason.

Landing back on the ground, Jean headed to the bench and took a seat. He wasn't going to help any of these new people make the team and potentially take his spot. If they wanted to, they'd have to work. Leaning on his broom, Jean watched them try out. Some of them were pretty good and had potential. Others did not. Jean hoped that Lowan would make the best decision for the team.

Zachery was excited about attending the Gryffindor try-outs. Quidditch was in his blood; both his father and grandfather played for their Houses back in the days. Even though he was the only child around the house, Zachery had trained hard during the summer holidays and was ready to show Lowan his skill. Zach hurriedly put on his robes and gear, and with his Silver Arrow in his left hand, in his right a Beater's bat and robes dangling besides him he made his way to the Quidditch Pitch. Zach walked onto the Pitch, not nervous at all. And it showed. An aura of confidence poured out from him and his scarlet colored robes. The boy was not a newbie to this sport. And really wanted to hone everyone - especially the ones wearing green- besides that, Zachery wanted to prove to Lowan that he was a good Beater, and that he really ejoyed playing Quidditch. He greeted everyone when he arrived and almost immediately wrote his name and position on the paper. ''Hey,'' he said to the bunch, ''I'm Zachery and I'll be trying out for the position of Beater.''

The Gryffindor shot up into the air, one hand holding on to his broom and the other hand clutching his Beater's bat. After flying a lap as fast as he could, Zach flew over tot he other Beaters. He began a bit rough, not hitting every bludger that was send his way, but after a few minutes he recovered, sending almost every bludger the right way and preventing the others from trying to hit him.

Lowan was surprised at how popular the team was this year. he had a feeling it was going to be a good year for them. he watched as playes some familiar many new came to try out. he saw the first person onto the pitch was one of the first years hwo had been bugging him to join the team. he had heard they were professors kingsleys nephiew and neice so after a bit of bugging he had decided to let them try, partially to stopp the nagging and partially because they needed players after forfiting a match last year he wanted anyone he could get and also because their family had a good history of quidditch skills that he was hoping to tap into. Hello Link." he said in greetng before the next person crossed the pitch. as james approached he smiled. "Hey James. yep todays a beaut, course you can be back on the team, but i still have one chaser" he said as he saw matt approaching. that would have to be sorted out. but he would be glad to get james back, he could remember him winning a few matches for them. and members were members. next was the other beater last year alisa, Hey" he said before the second potter twin was on the pitch and the two of them were strting to show sibling rivalry. "calm down guys, you wont be getting onto the team because you have a certain broom. it will be because you can play" he said trying to defuse the tension and wondering if having the twins would be worth it if they were going to bicker.
skye and archie came next and Lowan watched the players who were already in the air. they all seemed to be doing well.
wow the gryffindor team seemed really popular this year. the next person to cross the pitch seemed a little uncomfortable. he seemed quite a big guy but seemed uncomfortable. as he drew nearer he nodded. "hey mate, no need to stress. give it a go and there is no need to stress" he said if his build was anything to go by he would make a great beater. he watched the team members going their laps before another girl arrived to try for chaser. "hello... Dorina" he greeted as she wrote her name down. she seemed enthusiastic, and seemed to know JT. Next came Jean who had shown he was good and adaptable in past games helping them to victory many times. he was glad the goy was back. though it was a bit of a shame he wasn't flying, he was guaranteed a place on the team and it would have been good to see how he interacted with the new players. finally another new boy, zachary, oe of his room mates, arrived to try for beater "Hey good luck" he said as the boy set to the sky. this year that role seemed very popular. and he had no beater places to fill. he would have liked a second keeper, and he was happy he now had two well tried seekers. as trials progressed he watched as the players played calling out encouragement and instruction to the people from the ground. it looked like they were to have a strong team this year which was good news. a big team too which was better news the one thing worse than loosing sometime was not having to forfeit due to lack of players.

Lowan looked at his watch and saw that time was getting on and no one else was arriving. he looked at the sky and saw that evertone was doing great. placingthe whistle in his moth he blew it to get the attenetion of the team and gestured to them to land. he was going to do the team the same as last year. anyone who tried out would get a spot. even if it meant duplicating roles. and the first years could join for training and be alternatives. he just didn't see the point in having alternatives as some roles they had two great players trying for and he didn't want to loose either of them. "good work today guys. i will be putting the team list in the common room soon. he said watching them head back ot the change rooms. whilst he headed to the stands to make the team draft. now all he had to so was to assess the first year trying out for alternatives. it was odd that this year so many people were trying for beaters.
Gryffiddor team.

James was thrilled to finally be able to try out for the Quidditch team. Since he had arrived at Hogwarts he had talked the ear off anyone who would listen about how much he wanted to join the Quidditch team. He already knew his position and even as he stood on the sidelines watching the older students try out and he saw that Gryffindor already had two seeks he wasn't deterred. Finally it was James' turn along with the other first years to try out and earn a spot as an alternate. James picked up one of the old school brooms and when it was his turn he mounted the ancient broom and took to the air a little shakily. James kept his eyes peeled for snitch once it was realised again. A couple of times he thought he saw a glint of gold in the corner of his eye only for it to be a false alarm. Finally he saw it, and it wasn't a glint it was as clear as day flying around by the corner of the pitch. James leaned forward and shot to the other side of the pitch in chase of the gold ball. The snitch shot passed his ear and he pulled up to fly the other way. He weaved around to practice dodging players and bludgers and quickly began to close the gap between him and the snitch. James held out his arm and clenched his fist as he closed the gap and flew to the ground with the struggling snitch between his fingers.
