It had been a while since elvera had any amount of free time. Despite having sold her shop, but since Selene had returned to teaching, she had also taken over the majority of the caring duties for her mother, whose health was rapidly deteriorating. Today, however, was not only a lovely afternoon. It was also the autumn equinox, and a day she had some time for herself. and she had decided she was well overdue catching up with her friends.
She had spent the morning at home in the kitchen baking scones, little goodies, and making sandwiches. had now found a nice spot in the garden, a table under a pergola covered in jasmine and roses. She set the area up with a nice tablecloth and cake stands, set up for a traditional afternoon tea. and of course several teapots brewing an assortment of teas charmed to not oversteep or go cold. She helped herself to a cream cheese and cucumber sandwich as she waited to see who would be first to arrive.

Gabrielle was feeling a little pleased with herself for how she'd conducted herself in the dueling tournament, and even better when she'd recieved an invitation for an afternoon tea hosted by Elvera. Perhaps it was part of seeing her ex get married and be happy, but Gabrielle figured it really was past time that she made more of an effort in friendship. She wasn't looking to follow Stephen's footsteps, but there was probably something to having at least platonic companionship.

Having an afternoon off (we'll, there was grading to do but it could wait until after - the students would appreciate her grading on a full stomach she was sure), she'd slipped into comfortable casual clothes sans work robes and headed down to the garden, hesitating slightly when she was early. Then she remembered she was far too old for that sort of behaviour. "Good afternoon," she said, raising a hand in greeting. "This looks lovely. How are you?" Small talk had never come naturally to her, but by Merlin's beard she intended to try.
