Angel hadn't actually expected the flutterby bushes in the greenhouse to be blooming anytime he was working at the school, so when he'd spotted the buds starting to open in his last class he'd half thought he was hallucinating. With as little sleep he'd been getting it was really only a matter of time before something like that happened. But the blooms were in fact real, and when a few students had expressed interest, Angel hadn't minded getting some air out of the greenhouses, moving the flutterby bushes out into the gardens so anyone could observe the once in a century occurrence themselves.

"You know, the flowers supposedly smell like whatever the observer would find most appealing," he said to a nearby student, leaning forward himself to take a sniff. It smelt something sweet and spiced, almost chocolatey, that Angel recognized as something his mother used to make when he was a kid. It was a strangely bittersweet memory and Angel stepped back, pasting a smile on his face an inviting anyone who was curious to come a little closer to check it out for themselves.

Kiara knew that with her exams slowly coming up, she couldn't skip any chance to interact with something that could show up in her exams, but if she was being honest, nothing could stop her from coming over. She had never seen Flutterby bush bloom but she was pretty sure that there actually weren't a lot of wizards and witches who could be proud of seeing that. So here she was, looking at the blooming plant and not being able to keep back the smile, she was sure that she had never seen something more magical.

Kia got distracted from the bush when the professor talked up, the Ravenclaw immediately looked at him and acknowledged what he said, and gave a nod. She started to think what it would smell like for her. She took a sniff a bit after the professor and tried to understand what was the smell, it seemed so well-known but it took her a moment to understand that it was the smell of the jasmine. Girl weakly smiled, she wanted to go back home... It was spring now there and the flowers started to bloom, they had several jasmines in every corner of their garden and it was the most spring scent she had ever smelled, it almost made her feel bad that it was autumn here. "I haven't smelled jasmines in several years," she admitted as she took back a step to let someone else approach the magical bush, while she was drowning in memories about the jasmines. It wasn't her favorite plant but it had always reminded her of her mom who seemed to be the happiest person alive every time when it was spring. And her dad was often with mom in the gardens and just ended up smelling like that plant too so Kiara associated this plant with both parents and the endless love her maternal side of family loved to talk about.

After being told the flutterby bush only bloomed once a century and being notified that the ones they had been working on might bloom any day she felt like she had no choice but to head over and see if they were actually blooming already. It sounded like a missed opportunity not to, after all. She smiled when she reached the garden and noticed Kiara already there, as well as the professor and the blooming bushes. She quietly watched the flowers for a little while, trying not to be surprised by how pretty they were. They kind of had to be though, it would be a massive let down if a plant that only bloomed once in a century turned out to be bland and boring. Chloë smiled when the professor mention the flowers were supposed to smell like something they would find appealing, his face after he sniffed it giving away that certainly was the case for him. So did Kiara for that matter, and she wondered whether she should step forward to have a smell. After seeing the others react to the flowers she couldn't exactly shy away though and she confidently stepped over to get a whiff of it herself. She'd be lying if she said the flowers didn't smell nice and it didn't take her long to realize what it was she was smelling. She grinned when she realized it was the ocean, which completely made sense since she had been living close to the ocean here entire life and had a lot of good memories connected to the scent. Both from back in France as well as from right here in New Zealand. Living and being close to the ocean had been a fixed factor throughout her life and something she wasn't keen on changing anytime soon.
