The first round of duels had been.... eventful, to say the least, and Kahurangi hoped the less rules-inclined competitors had all been weeded out by now. She still had a bit of a headache from listening to Theodore go on and on, and half hoped Oswald would be making a complaint to James about him. For now, though, she had another round of duels to proctor. Glancing between both competitors, Kahurangi stood up straight as she addressed them. "Alright, let's make this a clean match. On my mark." She stepped back, curious to see the shape this duel would take. "Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Gabrielle was surprised she had managed to get past Edward, but she supposed he was a little slower moving. It was fun to get to duel and cast more varied spells again, as she didn't really get to in her line of teaching. She knew James was quite skilled and she'd certainly have her work cut out for her going up against him, but she was determined to give it her best shot. She knew Miranda was watching for the paper, too, and perhaps it was far too immature for someone of her age but she did want to look impressive in front of her daughter. She imagined James was similarly motivated in front of his myriad children.

Gabrielle politely nodded her head and bowed, and with a quirk of her eyebrow and small half-smile cast a silent Levicorpus. It was a favourite of hers, and one she thought she ought to consider using on students if they misbehaved in class or cheated on exams. She'd probably only need to use it once in a class before the message got across.

James' newly bald head gleamed under the lights of the great hall as he prepared for his second duel. He looked ridiculous, but there was nothing he could do about that for the time being. He bowed to Gabrielle and took his place on the platform to begin the duel. Blocking her first spell and casting his own, "Expelliarmus,"

Gabrielle was a bit sympathetic to James' unwanted haircut. She had had to ditch her robe after losing all the buttons on it to Edward's mass transfiguration, as well as the buttons on her pants pockets. It was perhaps a little easier to mend than hair loss, but it was still rather finicky and time consuming and she had more important things to worry about for the moment. She wasn't at any risk of indecency, so she'd fix it up later. She raised her eyebrow again at the spell, blocking it, wondering if he was just trying to lull her into a false sense of security. Well, Gabrielle saw this as a teaching demonstration first and foremost. "Graviatus!"

Gabrielle's choice of spell was inspired, if not a little unexpected. It wasn't often people dug out recently invented spells. James raised his wand and blocked it, though it was significantly harder to do so and figured he'd take a leaf out of her book. "Evasto"

Gabrielle smiled, quickly shielding to block the spell but having to be ready to move just in case she was that bit too slow. "Let's hope they're taking some notes," she joked, not expecting any of the students to of course but hoping some might be interested and want to learn some more (acceptable) spells. With that, she decided she might try a sleep bewitchment spell, for old time's sake. She may or may not have used it on the odd first or second year out after curfew in her last year at Hogwarts. But Gabrielle supposed it might be best if the students didn't take notes on that.

Gabrielle had no intention of being beaten with one of her favourite spells, and blocked it with a silent shield charm. Sometimes it was so much faster to cast them silently. It was like the difference between reading aloud and reading to herself. She was half tempted to really show off for the students with a patronus charm, but that was certainly overkill, not to mention cockiness. Maybe simplicity was a good option, she thought, firing back a confundo.
