Professor Misha Haden had been a bit surprised to be asked to help out, he didn't often, but he didn't mind it. Though of course he was feeling a little more tired than usual with the boys keeping him awake. It was nice though, they were adorable. He looked at the two students whose duel he was overseeing. "Let's keep this clean," he said, before inviting them to get started.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Beatrice had been practicing, maybe not quite as hard as her sister, but still hard enough for this dueling tournament. She wasn't a competitive person, but it seemed that everyone in her year had signed up, and the Ravenclaw didn't want to miss out. Having been paired with Ruth, she followed the rules and bowed after Professor Haden gave them the go ahead, sending her first spell. "Stupefy," she said.

Ruth was looking forward to the duels, though she had to admit she was a little worried. She knew Leah and Cyrus were good at duelling, and wasn't sure if people would expect her to be on the same level. She kind of wanted to be better, but she hated hard work. She figured she'd just try and see what happened. She grinned at Bea, mouthed 'good luck' and waited to see what she'd do, putting up a quick Protego in response to block. She fired back with an Expelliarmus of her own, testing the waters.

Beatrice watched as Ruth blocked her spell with, seemingly, ease, and readied herself, blocking the disarming spell the Slytherin sent back. She was surprised she had managed to block it. "Petrificus Totalus," she said.

Ruth beamed, this was actually a lot of fun and she could see why Leah and Cyrus liked it so much. She was on her toes, ready to quickly block the spell that came back her way - she'd have to actually thank Bea after for the dance workouts. She thought about casting a dancing spell after that, but since Bea was a good dancer she instead decided to make her laugh and cast Rictusempra.

Beatrice readied herself as Ruth sent another spell her way and blocked it, feeling a lot of her energy draining. This was a lot more tiring than she had expected. Defensive spells were not the easiest to cast for her, and she hoped she could keep up with her competition. The Ravenclaw sent back a jelly legs jinx, wondering what it might feel like to have your legs be jellified.

Ruth watched carefully, because if there was one thing she was good at, it was observing people. She had to be, if she wanted to make sure she was staying on people's good sides. Or at least, as best she could have. She could see that Bea was maybe not loving dueling, but she was still giving it her all. Ruth's lack of experience was showing, barely managing to block the spell in time - her legs still felt kind of wobbly though, maybe that was just a mental thing? But if Bea was good on her feet, then the best option was probably..."Locomotor mortis!"

Beatrice was ready for Ruth's spell, or so she thought, when she felt it hit her legs. Her knees became bound, and Bea felt herself falling foward, her wand rolling off the platform before her face hit the ground. She felt a lot of pain around her nose and instantly started tearing up. Bea looked up and over at Maggie, trying not to let anyone else see the tears as she realized she'd lost the duel.

Misha was watching the spells go back and forth until one finally managed to hit and end the duel. "The winner is Ruth Thorne," He then moved to the girl who'd lost, conjuring some tissues and intending to take her to see his wife - the nurse.

 

[Leah Thorne]

Leah was so excited to see her cousin duel. She had given her some pointers but not too many. She didn't want to overwhelm her but it was exciting to share something she cared about with Ruth. Cyrus had to deal with enough with her trying to "help" him with quidditch. She silently took a seat not wanting to make her presence known in case she distracted her cousin, knowing that a shout of encouragement could do more harm than good. Leah held her breath as the second years bowed and fired off their first spells. It was almost cute to watch the exchange of stunning spells and disarming charms when her classmates were trying to blow each other up. Finally one of Ruth's spells landed and the other girl's legs were locked together. "YES!" Leah shouted as the match was called and she stood up clapping. "Go Ruth!! Wooo!!"
