His lips drew back into a smirk when he saw on the leaderboard his name matched with that of Rhiannon McGowan. A reason why Perseas had been looking forward to the second semester was the resumption of the Dueling Tournament. He did a good job last semester when he was victorious at his first two matches. Now Perseas knew that his next opponents were going to be more of a challenge. Like him, they had already won against othes, proving their potential. Like he always did, he was studying his opponent before the duels and he had watched both of Rhiannon's duels. Someone could underestimate her, and probably her two previous opponents did and lost, but he wasn't going to make this mistake. She was highly strategic but also methodical and maybe the cracks of her defenses could be found there. He revised and practiced all the spells that had helped him get to the next round and looked forward to have this duel with a good friend.
Next morning he had a light but energizing breakfast. Dueling while stuffed was a bad thing and he was going to be mindful even for these tiny, little details. After all, details were making the champion. He arrived at the Dueling Chamber to see that his opponent was already there, greeting Professor Styx who was going to be monitoring their duel. He approached her with his half smile already on his face. "Stop being a backscratcher." he broke in as he stopped next to her to leave his own bag. "Styx is not going to be touched by your kindness." he mocked her for her habit of always greeting politely all their professors, both at the start and the end of classes. Then he left for the south end to warm up with a few streches and drew his wand. He flicked it several times to hear the whistle of the thin wood cutting the air. He moved closer to the center of the arena for the custom bows.
"Good luck to you too." he wished her while bowing his head but retaining eye contact with her. He moved back to his end of the arena and pointed his wand at her, waiting for her first spell. Always letting his opponent cast the first spell.
"Protego!" he shouted to summon the protective force field in front of him as the red flash of her stunning spell zoomed dangerously close. The flash of a bat-bogey hex traveled across the dueling arena as he sent it right towards her.
