Rory hadn't really wanted to go to the dance, he had decided to, but as he stood in his suit he was beginning to regret that decision, hr wasn't much of a love guy, and though he had given roses to people he had done it out of what he decided was politeness, Flavio did his homework, and Alaska was a decent friend, someone he would actually not mind to spend time with, and given he didn't quite know how to express that in person a little note felt better, easier and then he had decided perhaps against his better judgement to attend this dance. He didn't care about Valentine's Day, he didn't care about couple and dancing, but here he was dressed in a suit and just gone to it, he stood awkwardly st the side holding a cup of juice in his hand and looking around at those dancing, he was trying to spot the few people he spoke with, but they just didn't seem to be about, perhaps they hadn't chosen to come which would leave the Scot feeling kinda lonely, but striking up a conversation with someone he did not know didn't feel right with him, they should come to him, he was of course superior to them than most. But for now, as he stood alone he did desire perhaps a little company.

Tess was as excited as ever for the Valentine's dance, even if she were going with a group of people she was sure had invited her just because they were extremely kind. She felt pretty good about it though because she could dance the night away with everybody and they didn't mind that she was a muggle born from what she could tell. The girl, who felt out of place in dresses, wore a nice white collared shirt and black trousers but had left her hair as curly as ever because it was too much effort otherwise if the process to straighten her hair magically was as frustrating as it was in the muggle world. It made her look a bit more gawky than she already was but she felt pleased with herself tonight. Tess was happy to reward herself with a sweet drink and maybe a cookie if she was so inclined. While approaching she saw the rudest boy she had ever met but also the one who had introduced her to the reality of this world and how unwelcome Tesla was there. She quickly looked away from him because she didn't want to ruin her evening by speaking with such a person.

The Valentine's dance was almost as wonderful as the Yule Ball had been, and Amber felt giddy. She had decided to go alone this time instead of with her best friend. Tonight she was determined to meet more different people and make a lot of new friends. And there was also a part of her that felt like it was a little bit weird to go with a friend to a Valentine's dance when there were so many couples around.

She spent the first part of the evening admiring the decorations and the many wonderfully dressed people around. But soon found herself a little bit thirsty. As she made her way over to the drinks, she saw two first years standing somewhat close to each other near the drinks. It didn't look like they knew each other, but Amber decided that she could kill two birds with one stone. Not only was there potential here to make two new friends at once, but maybe they would like each other too and become friends as well.

With that thought in mind, she stepped up to the two of them, smiling. The boy wasn't in her house but she recognized the girl from Hufflepuff. Wasn't her name Tessa? She clasped her hands together happily. "Hi! You're both first years too, right?" She asked brightly, looking at each of them in turn. "I'm Amber, doesn't the Great Hall look wonderful tonight?"

As Rory stood alone he noticed the girl, the cannibal girl, he hadn't spoken to her since that time they'd met, and he'd had very little reason to do so, the fact that she was a hufflepuff while he was no frustrated him to no end, to the point where even in his boredom he would not speak to her, but this plan went swiftly out the window when a second girl he recognised from classes began speaking, from what he remembered she was not a slytherin, quite possibly a hufflepuff, and he wondered if perhaps he should warn her against the girl. But after glancing back at the girl he hated he decided he would answer this new comer, "Aye," he told the girl, nodding his head. He was fairly certain that the girl whom he was sure are people was a first year like him, so while she might choose to also answer it. The girl introduced herself, and Rory ran a hand through his hair, wondering if he should stick around or if he should just go, but the Scottish boy decided that he was bored and glancing around he still couldn't see people he liked so he guessed for now he was stuck with these two girls, "Aye it does, am Rory. Ah'm pretty sure they got the house elves tae decorate,"

Tesla looked up briefly when she was approached by a girl. Someone she recognized but didn't know by name. "Kia ora," she said quietly, trying to be polite so she could get her drink then leave before being accused of being something more than just a cannibal. As house elves were mentioned the first year shrugged her shoulders. All she could say was what had already been said - that the great hall looked great. "I hope they're paid well for all the work they do," she said offhandedly. While a good day's work was satisfying, she could assume the elves would feel happy to receive payment and appreciation for their efforts. Especially with all the events that Hogwarts put on. It was more than her primary school had ever done and to a much greater degree.

Amber smiled. "It's nice to meet you both, Rory and..." She trailed off, realizing the other girl hadn't actually said her name. "Is your name Tessa? I seem to remember something like that." She said, hoping it wasn't too impolite. Honestly, it was more impolite not to introduce yourself, but it probably just slipped her mind. "You're in Hufflepuff as well, aren't you?" She paused, looking at Rory. "And you're not. Which house are you in?" She couldn't remember what classes she had seen him in, but she knew she had never seen him in the Common Room. When the subject changed to the decorations and House Elves, she nodded in agreement with Rory. But when the girl started talking about payment, she couldn't keep a surprised look off her face. "Paid? Are they really?" She asked. "That's not the norm, is it?" Her family never had a House Elf, but she had heard stories about what they were like in grand Pure Blood estates like her distant relatives on her mother's side. As far as she knew they were so happy to do their work that they didn't need payment the way humans did.

Rory spared a glance at the girl that he didn't like before looking back at Amber, who like him had picked on the fact that the other girl had opted to not introduce herself to them, even in the time he had known and hated the girl he'd never once paid attention to her name, and though he was about to break to Amber that the girl was a cannibal, he held his tongue he knew it to be true, well, he assumed it, but he didn't want to scare off Amber from her because currently she was helping his boredom. As the girl said she was a hufflepuff he couldn't help but sigh in an annoyed manner, so this girl, Amber was hufflepuff material but he was not? When the question was turned to him he wanted to just not say, "Slytherin," he practically snarled out, clearly unhappy with such a placement but his words were drowned out by the girl he hated speaking, talking about the elves in the castle who had done the decorations, he knew the hogwarts elves could receive wages if they desired it, but most did not at all, "They dinnae get paid tae dae it, their sole purpose in life is to serve their master, as in us magical folk," he didn't think the girl would like such a statement, but it was unfortunately the truth. His family had a few elves helping out with the kitchens, but they were not paid, they were treated well, he thought it was a pretty good deal.He liked house elves they did what he said.

Tess smiled in embarrassment as she realized that she had forgotten to introduce herself to Amber. "Tess but Tessa works too, I guess." In truth, she wasn't too bothered but she did feel Tess was more relatable than Tesla. No one at this school would even know who Nikola Tesla was. Luckily they would never find out her really awful middle name because she might just have to run away if that were the case. "Yep. I'm in Hufflepuff." She felt quite pleased with her house because she had met a few really nice people there and none of them seemed to think she was a cannibal. When Rory said he was a Slytherin she made sure to avoid that house at all costs. They were already pretty dodgy to be so grim and bleak but to have him in their house. Well they must be truly awful. She had been blissfully unaware of such injustice in the magical community but hearing about this made her feel sick. "That's disgusting! How can the government allow that? How can the school abuse them?" Tesla was hating magic more already. She didn't want to keep a slave because that's what this felt like.

Amber smiled. "Tess, that's a nice name." She said politely. It was a tad embarrassing that she had gotten it wrong, and she vowed not to guess next time but just ask someones name. "Hufflepuff is great, isn't it? Everyone's so nice!" She said happily, forgetting for a moment that there was someone present from a different house. When she realized, she blushed a little. "Though I'm sure Slytherin is good too." She added quickly.

The subject of House Elves made her a little uncomfortable. The way Tess put it, it did sound very bad. But she had always heard people talk about it like it was normal. She felt like she had to reassure the other girl, even if she didn't know too much about it herself. "Well, I think they really like working..." She said, her uncertainty clear in her voice. "And I'm sure the school treats them very well! House Elves would be sad if you tried to pay them, I think? Maybe we should find one and ask? Or ask a teacher?"
