Folks! Welcome to the BWU brought to you by me! There is a good amount to get through so I'll just jump right into it.
Sorting Ends for Y51
With us now being in Week 2 of the semester, we have officially wrapped up sorting, and below is the official breakdown of the sorting numbers. A massive thank you to all who participated in sorting this time around. We also had one transfer, who was sorted into Ravenclaw. All in all a great sorting and looking forward to seeing how all the little first years develop.
New Semester, New Professors
With this being the first BWU of the semester we have a number of new professors, we'd like to take a moment before we tell you who they are, to thank everyone for the work which has and will go into being a professor. But without further ado, please say welcome and congrats to our new professors:
Professor Lena Williams - CoMC 5-7
Professor Syrah Glass - Divination 3-4
Professor Wendall Layton - Herbology 5-7
Professor Arvel Ayers - Flying
Professor Vader Hume - HoM 5-7 (temp)
Professor Killian Borisyuk - Charms 5-7 (role switch)
We also have a new Head of Slytherin House: Professor Yvonne Dubois (Kadi) and a new Headmaster: Professor Kalif Styx (Ghost). A massive congratulations to both of them in their new roles.
Club Fair & Quidditch
There's always so much happening as the year gets underway, be sure to check out the club fair found here for all your club needs, and then to the various quidditch try-outs. Some of the latter have wrapped but a few remain open and you can follow the freshly formed teams as they begin practices. The first game is coming later this month so teams have a little time to prepare for it.
Holiday Areas Closed
The holiday area are now closed. The Brightstone weekend will be your next opportunity for characters to explore the world outside of school.
Accio Y50!
The long awaited yearbook for Y50 has been released. A massive thank you to the Accio team who were instrumental in putting this together. Head on over here to check it out! If you have graphics experience and would like to join the team head on over here on how you could do that.
Shopkeeper activity
As ever, we'll be checking in with inactive shopkeepers, and remind people that though we're not asking for a thread or activity every week, we would say that some activity in areas is being asked - like something every IC year (importantly doesn't need to be a big event just something). If you do not have time for a Shopkeeper then just let us know and we can find someone who would.
And that's it! A lot to get through but we did it!

Cash in on White Elephant
If you won a prize in last birthday's white elephant, you have a limited amount of time to cash that in before next birthday. Reach out to Cyndi and myself so that we can discuss honouring the prize won.
Calendar - Extra week in Reading Week
The calendar is now up to date, and importantly folks, we have made a little change to the cycle of HNZ's IC years. A week has been added to the reading week, making it two weeks rather than one, this is to help give people more time to catch up ahead of the exam week.
Advertising
As we've done previously, with it being a new IC year we've done a little advertising. This can help get new members (as the ad has done), so we'd ask as always for people to be nice and of course give new folks a hand if they want it.
Spotlight!
We are in February! That means a brand new spotlight, and this couldn't come at a better time, as it is Kadi with the new Head of House for Slytherin: Professor Yvonne Dubois. Head on over here to read all about the character, and join me in congratulating Kadi on both the spotlight and the new role!
