Apparition 3

Before the end of the lesson, Irene Finch hoped that all of the students would succeed in apparating to their target. She knew that wouldn't be the case, but the pressure was on for the students. This was the last practice after all. Several of the students had managed to apparate during the last lesson even with the splinching that had happened, but that didn't always translate to success at the exam.

Addressing the small group of sixth years, Irene walked as she spoke. "Today, we will resume practicing" she began, her icy blue eyes staring at each of the students in turn as she spoke. "I am hopeful that those of you who weren't able to apparate last time will do so today. The next time we meet will be your exam and you will only get one opportunity to succeed or fail. Your test will require you to be accurate when you apparate." She let that sink in before continuing on.

"Line up beside me please." It didn't take them long to queue up. "Alright...I'd like you all to attempt apparating from this end of the Great Hall to that end" she said, pointing towards the doors of the Great Hall. "The red X marks the spot" she added, knowing that they had probably noticed an X etched onto the floor with magic as they walked in.

Glancing at all the students beside her, she hoped there would be no splinchings today, though she had asked for one of the school nurses to join them once again. "You can begin whenever you're ready" she said to the student who was first in line. "As soon as you feel comfortable, you may leave. But, please do remember that this is your final opportunity to practice before your exam." They were adults by wizarding standards or close enough anyway, so she wasn't going to force any of them to stay. It was in their best interests to take advantage of the time provided to them though.

**************************
Practice attempting to apparate one by one. Practice as many times as you'd like. Please PM if you plan on splinching.

The line felt like it was longer than it probably was in reality, and Elio's gaze fixed on the red X at the far end of the Great Hall. This was their last chance to practice before the exam and the pressure was thick in the air. He could feel it, and it made his hands feel clammy. If he failed here, it probably wasn't completely the end of the world, but he really did want his apparition licence. It would make everything so much easier. Failing here might not have meant he would fail at being a wizard, but it sure felt like something akin to that. They only had on shot on the test, so he needed to practice here as much as he could. He hated that this was the only time they could do it, though he understood why. This was probably one of the more dangerous forms of magic - and there were anti-apparition wards around the school that prevented them getting in and out at will. It was entirely too easy to splinch oneself, even if apparition was a common form of travel, fully trained wizards or witches had been known to get splinched. He hadn't done it yet, but it was certainly something at the back of his mind.

Elio's nerves kicked in as he watched the students ahead of him, each of them vanishing in an attempt to reach their target. Some of his peers seemed to manage it with ease, others stumbled, though they all looked relieved to have reached the end in some form. Was this the definition of unscathed? Elio's hands clenched, he silently repeated the three D's like the mantra he'd been using for the past weeks: Destination, Determination, Deliberation. Damn, he had never wished Mikael was with him more than he had these last several weeks, mostly because somehow he just knew he'd be great at this - he'd take to it like he took to everything else. When Elio seemed to struggle, Mikael was just right there doing it right the first time, and it was a bit beyond infuriating, but he couldn't blame Mikael, he had lessons with his parents, and whilst so did Elio, it was a bit different. Mikael wasn't learning the basics like Elio had been, he was doing more advanced stuff - Elio was just trying to figure out how to hold things together.

When his turn came, Elio took a steadying breath and locked his eyes on the red X, visualizing himself arriving there in one smooth motion. Gathering his focus, he reminded himself not to overthink—just focus and trust the magic. With a concentrated effort, he summoned the familiar pull of apparition and felt the shift as he left his spot. An instant later, he found himself at the far end, feet firmly planted on the red X. Relief washed over him, though he worked to keep his expression calm, suppressing the urge to celebrate too openly. For a moment, he glanced back at his classmates, feeling a renewed sense of confidence. He had done it—and now all that remained was to do it again for the exam. Ah Heck - he was definitely going to fail the exam.

Savannah was so ready for this, so ready to be able to apparate, and with each lesson she was one step closer to it. She was trying her best to not get over eager or ahead of herself. She joined the rest of the class in the hall and was able to easily guess what they were to do. She let others go before her, not wanting to be the first and then stepped forward, she kept her gaze on the X and let her mind clear. It didn’t take long, she felt it and in a crack she was across the room. The teen felt sure she had all of her pieces and then smiled. She stood out of the way and let others go, but of course did try again. She practiced twice more before heading out of the room.

Apparition wasn’t going well for Gregory, he was trying his best, but it just seemed, beyond him. Though given his track record with magic, it being beyond him wasn’t the most surprising thing. He joined the rest of the class in the great hall and glanced around. He could see they were going to have to do it in front of others but Gregory hadn’t even managed to do it once. He watched as other succeeded in apparating across and without even realising it, he was suddenly next. He stepped forward and glanced at the x, trying to remember all they’d been taught. It wasn’t difficult to focus when he couldn’t hear anything, but it was difficult to stop thinking. He spent a good amount of time with nothing happening and then suddenly he felt a pull. He leaned into it, though also leaned a little out and then was across the room. He was on the X before he realised it. It caused a sharp and short pain in his hand. He let out a breath, unaware of the fact that someone was saying his name, until he raised his hand and noticed the cut. OH. He’d splinched. It didn’t seem that bad, bleeding but not too terribly. He made quick excuses and stumbled over his own feet as he headed to the nurse.

Roo made her way to the apparition lesson, feeling a little nervous. She somehow managed to do it last lesson, so she just had to stay positive and continue to remember the Three D's. She just couldn't wait for the lesson to be over. When instructed, Roo lined up with the class and was one of the first handful to apparate. She wasn't keen on getting so far ahead in the line, however thought it better to get it over and done with. She closed her eyes just as she had done last time, as this seemed to help her. She thought of the Three D's and repeated them in her head multiple times. She opened her eyes, expecting herself to have moved, but she hadn't moved at all. She sighed, just trying to clear her mind so she could do it. Positive thoughts were imperative. It took a few more goes, but eventually she was able to do it, but despite doing it perfectly a second time, she still wasn't very confident. She thanked the instructor before leaving.

The semester was coming to an end, and Cassius Styx felt that his letter writing has been getting better and better. His handwriting had always been neat, but he had issues with just writing in general. To people. He preferred face-to-face interaction. He might get that soon though. Cass looked forward to the end of the year so that he could go home, and maybe see his friends. It wasn't like he had many nowadays. His attitude overall had improved over the years. He calmed down a lot, and thought that it had to do with Dante's condition. That and his experience before humbled the hell out of him. He didn't want to think about it though, so he grabbed his stuff and left to go to class to get his mind back on track.

Cass entered the Great Hall, and felt more than ready to get this done. Cass wanted to be a successful apparator. He needed it to succeed in his life after he was done with this school. He was more than ready to leave. Cass wanted to get on without the pressure of having school with him. He heard the instructions on what they would be doing. Resuming practicing. On the exam, they would only have one shot and that was it. He looked at the X on the floor, and knew what they needed to do from there. He started to focus and apparate to the X. It took less tries than before, but he managed to apparate to the X. He practiced a few times, and then left once he was comfortable.

The year seemed to be going by quickly, which Terror Zhefarovich had no complaints over. He needed to hurry and graduate so that he could go and do his own thing. He yearned to get out there and see the world as he played Quidditch - if any team would want his skills. He thought that he did decently, but he felt that he needed a lot of improvement. Well, practice made perfect. He gathered his bag regardless, nearly forgetting his prefect badge. He could not forget that since he earned it. Somehow. Still baffled him but he would take what he could get. He left the Slytherin dungeon so that he could make his way to his next class.

Terror walked in the Great Hall and stood among his peers. He kept his red eyes on Ms. Finch as she gave them all instructions, and a warning for their exam. They have one shot. And if they failed, that was it. Terror shifted his stare to the X on the floor, and then went back to looking at the instructor. It was interesting that he was related to her, somehow. He had not worked out the connections yet and never thought to until now. Terror forced himself to think of the task at hand. Apparating. He immediately focused and started to imagine himself apparating on the X. He managed to get it within three tries, and continued to do so until he felt comfortable. He left around the same time as Cassius.

Anisha felt a little nervous about the lesson today, but not too much. After succeeding last time, she was fairly confident she would get it this time too. She showed none of her anxiety as he headed to the Great Hall, smiling at her classmates until the teacher demanded her attention. She told the they would resume practicing, telling them they would have to succeed today if they didn't last time, as this was the last test before the exam. Anisha was glad she had managed last time, it was less scary that way. They had to line up and attempt to apparate from one end of the great hall to the other. Anisha watched as a few of her classmates got started, then she did the same thing. She focused and tried to do what she had done during the last lesson. It wasn't easy, but she eventually managed to apparate. It wasn't on the X, but she was halfway there. She kept on trying, eventually managing. When the lesson was over, she left the great hall.

Leah was feeling confident as she walked into the great hall. She listened to Ms. Finch’s instructions and got in line with the rest of her classmates. This time they had a very specific destination in mind. It seemed like a challenge but she wasn’t worried about it. She shuffled back and forth impatiently as she waited for her turn. Finally she was up and was a little self conscious and knew she couldn’t take too much time focusing on the destination. She took a few deep breaths and tried not to think about everyone watching her as she held her wand. She actually found it easier to focus with her destination marked, and just like last time one moment she was next to the instructor and the next she was across the hall and a little breathless. Pleased with her performance she was confident for the exam but she still practiced a few times to be safe.

Bethany arrived on time this time because it was before the last class, which was the most important, so the stress and fear were even greater. However, walking to the Great Hall, the girl tried to comfort herself that everything would work out and she would be able to be proud of herself later. She stood in the crowd and listened to what was waiting for them today. At first it seemed like nothing crazy, but in the end, when I had to do it myself, signs of stress appeared again. He looks at others, but then he decided to try it himself, he probably won't succeed on the first try. The more you try, the better you get.

It remained only to focus on the red light, then try and even several times. When it was time to try, you had to wait for him to get even closer, there was someone else to try. Until it was Bethany's turn, he looked at the X, then focused his thoughts solely on the mark. The girl kept in mind the idea of the three D's they had learned in the previous lesson when she felt the pull and didn't specifically resist but let herself be pulled. At one point the girl was already across the room on the X mark. By the time she realized that everything had worked, she rejoined the back of the line and then tried to train a few more times until they were dismissed.

Astraea’s previous attempt at apparition had been reasonably successful. Her destination had been slightly off but performing the act without splinching and getting in the general area of where she wanted to go was a success in her book. Their final lesson was a little different, they would have to apparate from one end of the great hall to the other with everyone watching. Astraea didn’t want to think about the other eye sin the room when she stepped up to take her turn, she just wanted to focus on the red ex on the other side of the hall. She had to hit her target this time.

She stood on the designated marker and remembered everything she had done right the lesson prior. She focused on her destination, the exact spot she wanted to land, not just the vague idea of the x, she wanted to land in the very centre of it. Astraea took her time, much to the frustration of the some of the people waiting behind her, but when she was ready she stepped forward to make her move and she vanished and reappeared on the other end of the hall, on the x just as she hoped. Astraea let out a cheer in celebration and then moved to join the others who had completed their attempt.
