Apparition 2

Irene stood in her Ministry robes looking as poised as ever as she awaited the sixth years' arrival. Today, they'd finally get some practice in. She knew that some students had experience with side-along apparition, but doing it alone was a very different experience. They'd soon find that out for themselves. It was one thing to go along for the ride, and quite another thing to be the person who had to remember the 3 Ds and execute them perfectly.

"Let's go. You don't have all day and neither do I." Irene Finch urged the students forward impatiently as the first student walked tentatively through the open Great Hall doors. She took roll as they entered, shutting the doors from the distraction of younger students who wanted to see what was happening. "You don't need to be on top of each other. Space yourselves out!" she stated, exasperation in her tone. Irene gave her wand a small flourish and a large wooden hoop appeared in front of each student, falling into place before them.

Looking around at their faces, Irene stared at each student for the briefest of moments, making judgments about their ability to succeed at the task before them. She had been doing this long enough that she was rarely wrong. "Alright, let us begin. Today, you will make your first attempts at apparating" she declared, her hands on her hips as she walked around. "Before we begin, however, can someone remind us of the three Ds?" she pointed to a student and nodded her head as they responded.

"Excellent" she stated. "Now that you've all been reminded of the three Ds, it is time to put them into practice. For your safety, one of your school nurses is here" she nodded towards the corner where the nurse was stationed. "If you splinch yourself, please remain in your spot and the nurse or I will come to you. No sense bleeding all over the place" she stated with a small shake of her head, not even thinking about how startling that sentence might seem to a muggleborn. She didn't explain splinching either. Sooner rather than later, she was sure they'd learn if they didn't already know. "Begin. I will be walking around."

Points will be given to the student who answers the question. RP the lesson.
If you'd like your character to splinch themselves, please PM me first.
School nurse welcome!

The Valentine's dance had been more eyeopening than he could have prepared for honestly. He had not gone in with the intention of admitting everything with Snowdrop to Kael, but by the end of the night it just made sense. What he hadn't expected was being corner by Hinata later that night as they were trying to leave and being bombarded with so many questions he's still trying to figure out what he had potentially agreed to. He can barely remember the conversation it had happened so rapidly. The worst part was that it was in English, so he really has no excuse for nothing able to follow it other than the cousins just somehow speaking telepathically. For his benefit of course Mikael had tried to pawn her off, but Hinata had not allowed it and he continued to pester them all the way to the Gryffindor Common Room, and then Mikael had been forced to take her back to her common room as well. When he'd woken in the morning he'd had a terrible headache about it.

Elio stands in the Great Hall, his heart racing as Ms Finch urges them forward. The sight of the large wooden hoop that appears before him make the task seem more real. This is it, the moment he's been waiting for. His usual confidence is a bit shaky now, since he has to apparate on his own. The stakes are high and he doesn't want to splinch himself. As Irene calls on a student to recite the three D's, his mind races as he remembers them. "Destination. Determination. Deliberation." He can hear her voice from before, firm in his mind as he says them.

When it's time to start, he takes a deep breath, his eyes fixed on the centre of the hoop in front of him. He can visualise the spot in his head, focusing everything he had on the idea of stepping into the zone, but not physically walking over there. The noise of the hall falls away as he narrows his focused attention. Destination. Determination. Deliberation. He repeats the mantra in his head, practically willing himself to get it right. He doesn't want to mess this up, because it will be painful. With his hands clenched at his sides, and just a tiny push against his magic, he takes a deep breath and lets go. Elio steps forward with as much conviction as he can muster, not letting the desire to hesitate overwhelm him. When he opens his eyes, he's moved. He's not where he wants to be, but he is closer to the circle even if he's not fully inside it. He closes his eyes again and continues to practice until they're dismissed.

Savannah walked into the great hall with the other students in her class. She glanced towards the teacher and spread out like the woman asked them to do. She was eager to get to finally apparating, so was quick to move into the necessary position. She looked to woman as she got started, but didn’t raise her hand to answer the question. Instead she just focused on remembering them and then the professor let them get to trying it. She focused her mind on what she wanted, on getting to the centre of the hoop. She felt the pull eventually and then with a snap was where she wanted to be. She felt pleased that she had managed it. She wasn’t able to practice again during the lesson which was a bit annoying.

Gregory walked into the great hall with everyone else. He’d done a bit of reading of the subject matter and had brought along a quick notes quill that would enable him to understand what the professor said. He spaced himself out and then watched the not eof what was being said appear beside him. He then looked at the hoop and tried. He really, really tried, but he couldn’t concentrate, couldn’t get himself to focus on it enough that it actually worked. By the end of the time, he still hadn’t managed it at all. He wasn’t sure why note, when it appeared most everyone else had managed it.

-splinch approved-

Zerrin was irrationally nervous about this. He wasn't sure why- he didn't have to be, but he was just worried about Gregory. He'd tried to help as best as he could, but he wasn't sure if it had helped. He was chewing on his lip as he walked to class, looking to the woman leading the class. He repeated the three d's in his mind, trying to calm down and focus on just himself. He only had to get through this, had to center himself and- crack.

Zerrin let out a strangled groan and stumbled over the hoop. At least he'd landed where he'd meant to, but the pain in his arm and the blood soaking through his shirt told him he hadn't made it in one piece. He stumbled over towards who he thought was a nurse, pale and shaking. He wasn't sure if it was as bad as it felt, but it sure hurt enough for him to think it was bad.

Roo made her way to her next Apparition class. She honestly couldn't wait for the class to be over as she just wanted to learn how to apparate already so she could focus on other things. She thought learning how to apparate was more of an inconvenience than anything. The teen gathered around as the professor ordered everyone to hurry up, and then listened as the professor asked them again for the Three D's. A Gryffindor student answered the question before the instructor then announced that they would be apparating into a hoop in front of them. Keen to get this over with, Roo began thinking of the Three D's in her head. That was until she noticed a Hufflepuff student nearby whose arm had completely fallen off. She stared as the blood soaked through his shirt and suddenly felt butterflies course through her stomach at the thought of that happening to herself. Why did the instructor not care to explain this as a possibility before they started? Roo knew that it could be dangerous, but seeing it in front of her just made it all too real.

The teen had never felt so nervous before about the possibility of her also losing an arm. Her mother would surely not be pleased with her if she returned during the holidays with one less limb. These thoughts spiralled in her head until she realised she was one of the last to attempt apparating. Everyone else seemed to be just fine however, so Roo just tried to believe that the honest chance of her splinching was almost zero, that she would be absolutely fine, and if she wasn't going to be fine, perhaps that would be a good reason for her to get out of classes. She thought again of the Three D's, closing her eyes this time so nothing around her could distract her. Destination. Determination. Deliberation. She just kept repeating them in her head. A little frustrated at not getting anywhere, Roo opened her eyes to realise that she had in fact done it. She was perfectly inside the hoop, with all of her limbs attached. She could almost cry with the amount of relief she was feeling. The teen then quickly ran out of the Great Hall before anything else could happen.

Writing letters throughout the week to one of the nurse's daughters was a little odd for Cassius Styx, since he did not want to meet her anytime soon. The mother not the daughter - she was cool. Cass found himself thinking of her more and more, and wondered if he would be able to see her again over break. She did go to another school, which was unfortunate for him. He doubted that he could convince her to transfer either. He shoved that thought aside and gathered his books and parchment paper into his bag. He needed to get ready for class before he was late. He was having a better semester this term, thankfully. Even with him helping Gregory Friend.

Cass walked in the Great Hall once more, eager to get this done and over with. They were not even at the exam yet, but he remembered what they had gone over the previous lesson. The three D's. Ms. Finch seemed to be eager to get the class going. Not that he could blame her. He walked away from some of his peers so that he had more than six feet of space around him from all sides. Cass heard the instructions, and immediately focused on getting it right and done on the first try. Cass was determined to make it work because he was a fighter. By the end of the class, he did apparate. Six inches but still.

The first week of classes went well, considering that his load was extremely small. He only wanted to learn what he felt was important. All the spells of course, but he did not want to have anything to do with Astronomy or things like that. Terror Zhefarovich had a small mind on what he felt was important. It still irked him that his twin brother was chosen as Quidditch Co-Captain and not him. Why not him? Terror actually loved Quidditch. It was unfair in his eyes but he couldn't risk going against the captains without risking his spot on the team. So he would just grit and bear it. He was still steaming as he got up and headed out to class. It might not be visible on his face, but it was in his eyes.

Terror walked in the Great Hall and made sure that he was spaced out from the rest before the instructor told them to. Terror liked having some space so this helped tremendously. They were going to start the actual process of apparating now, and that was what Terror looked forward to the most. He sighed and started to practice. He focused, and tried to picture it. At first, it did not work, but eventually, by the end of the class, he managed to apparate a few feet. That was it, and part of his robe was missing. At least it was not his arm. He grabbed his back and left the great hall.

It was time for the second lesson of apparition, and Anisha was hoping they would be trying to actually apparate She had gone over the three Ds a lot over the past few weeks, usually revising a bit during meals. Anisha headed to the great hall and head inside as Miss Finch ushered them all inside. Anisha found a spot in the room, and jumped a bit when a hoop suddenly appeared in front of her. It was pretty clear what it was for, though. Miss Finch told them a bit more, including what to do if you splinched yourself. Then it was time to start. Anisha tried her very best to focus on her hoop and not look at anyone else. Thankfully, before the lesson was over, Anisha had managed to move. She hadn't landed in the hoop the first time, but the second time she did manage that. She was pretty happy with that outcome, though she wished she could practice between lessons.

Leah was as eager as ever when it came time for their next apparition lesson. She was ready and waiting when the instructor appeared to let them into the great hall. She stood towards the front hoping to be called on or for the chance to go first if that was an option. They would be trying to apparate themselves and she couldn’t wait. After a quick review of the three Ds it was time. She really didn’t want to end up in the hospital wing so she did her best to clear her mind and focus. Which wasn’t something that came easy to her. But once she finally felt ready she held out her wand and thought about where she wanted to go. It happened without her realizing it. It was like one moment she had tripped over herself despite standing still and the next she was standing on the other side of the room. She beamed and looked towards her friends, excited to share in their success too.

Bethany was a little late for the second apparition lesson, so she hoped she hadn't missed anything important. As soon as the lesson started, she entered the hall and listened attentively to what the representative of the ministry was saying. They had to stand so as not to disturb each other. Bethany didn't say anything when the questions were asked as she tried to overcome her fear before trying the three D's when she would have to use them in practice.

Inhaling and exhaling, overcoming his fear, he realized that it wasn't going to be that easy, and still had to focus for the lesson, but it had to be done for the satisfaction of a job well done. Bethany took her place in the room and stood by the hoop. The girl tried to remember everything as it should be done, but fear made it difficult. She tried to focus on the hoop, then her mind flashed around the three D's where the girl wanted to go and he had to focus very well on that. It took a few minutes before he felt anything, then it felt like a small jolt. Bethany tried so many times that by the end of the lesson, everything was almost right. The practice will take some time, but you could try it later. When it was over, she left the Great Hall.

The ministry woman giving their apparition exams didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. Surely she could delegate the job to someone in her department if she hated coming to Hogwarts for the lessons that much. Once she had finished taking role she closed the door to the great hall and summoned wooden hoops in front of each student for them to practice apparition with. What struck Astraea the most was that they weren’t given much instruction. They just had to try. Focus on the three D’s and just…do it.

Once they were left to their own devices Astraea stood in front of her wooden hoop and thought hard on the three D’s, mentally repeating them over and over again. She thought about where she wanted to end up, which was the centre of the hoop, it couldn’t be more complicated than that could it? If it was, surely the instructor would have said something. She focused on her destination, concentrated on getting herself there unharmed and unscathed. She didn’t know how long she was stood on that spot, Astraea felt like she was fantasying rather than doing the productive thing she was actually doing. When she was finally confident in how she felt, in what she could visualise, she twisted on the spot and felt like her insides were being pulled towards the hoops and the next thing she knew she was on the other side of her hoop, but stood right next to it which was…an improvement on her previous spot. She had apparated, just not to where she had wanted. She could improve her destination in the next lesson, but she had made progress and that was the most important part.
