Irene stood in her Ministry robes looking as poised as ever as she awaited the sixth years' arrival. Today, they'd finally get some practice in. She knew that some students had experience with side-along apparition, but doing it alone was a very different experience. They'd soon find that out for themselves. It was one thing to go along for the ride, and quite another thing to be the person who had to remember the 3 Ds and execute them perfectly.

"Let's go. You don't have all day and neither do I." Irene Finch urged the students forward impatiently as the first student walked tentatively through the open Great Hall doors. She took roll as they entered, shutting the doors from the distraction of younger students who wanted to see what was happening. "You don't need to be on top of each other. Space yourselves out!" she stated, exasperation in her tone. Irene gave her wand a small flourish and a large wooden hoop appeared in front of each student, falling into place before them.

Looking around at their faces, Irene stared at each student for the briefest of moments, making judgments about their ability to succeed at the task before them. She had been doing this long enough that she was rarely wrong. "Alright, let us begin. Today, you will make your first attempts at apparating" she declared, her hands on her hips as she walked around. "Before we begin, however, can someone remind us of the three Ds?" she pointed to a student and nodded her head as they responded.

"Excellent" she stated. "Now that you've all been reminded of the three Ds, it is time to put them into practice. For your safety, one of your school nurses is here" she nodded towards the corner where the nurse was stationed. "If you splinch yourself, please remain in your spot and the nurse or I will come to you. No sense bleeding all over the place" she stated with a small shake of her head, not even thinking about how startling that sentence might seem to a muggleborn. She didn't explain splinching either. Sooner rather than later, she was sure they'd learn if they didn't already know. "Begin. I will be walking around."

Points will be given to the student who answers the question. RP the lesson.
If you'd like your character to splinch themselves, please PM me first.
School nurse welcome!

Branson had enjoyed the valentines day celebrations, it helped that with them was his girlfriend’s birthday, he enjoyed that too. Branson had tried to make sure that she had a good time, given it was a number of things at once, but he knew there wasn’t too much he could really do to make the celebration that unique. It was a school holiday at the end of the day. Branson was getting himself together for the day, putting the fun memories of valentines behind him. He had to focus, he had classes. He gathered up the different things he would need, reviewing each of them in turn, and making sure that he was only taking what he needed to that day. With that Bran headed out of the dorm room and to his first class of the day.

Branson had done a lot of reading ahead of the next apparition class. He wanted to do it, and he wanted to get it right. The ravenclaw was with the rest of the year and shuffled into the great hall. He glanced about and then moved into a space by himself. He watched as the professor conjured a wooden hoop in front of him and everyone else. He nodded a little and then smiled. The professor asked about the three D’s but Bran didn’t raise his hand, instead just focused his attention on what he was supposed to be doing. Getting into the middle of that hoop. Bran focused, he thought about where he wanted to go, and was determined to go there. He didn’t feel anything for ages, could hear as others managed it. But he just stayed focused, stayed determined and then he felt it and then in a second it was over. He found himself in the hoop with all of him there. He smiled and went to try again but there wasn’t any time. Somewhat frustrated by this, but glad he’d managed it, Branson left the room.

Jordie was falling into the routine of being back at school. It was stressful, and he knew that even with dropping a few classes he had so much to do. He'd felt a very weird, extra protectiveness over Leo. Jordie wasn't sure how he knew, but he just knew that something was going to happen. He tried to ignore it, sure it was only in his head.

He tried to focus on his classes instead. He walked into Apparition that day with that in mind. He smiled at the woman as she gave them their instructions. Right, the three D's. He'd been reading everything that he could find on the studies of apparition, and he was sure that he had the idea for what he had to do. He took a little time to center himself, sure he could do it if he got his mind into the right spot. He took a deep breath, before throwing himself into it. His stomach twisted, he flew across the room, and when he opened his eyes he was standing in the center of the hoop. He smiled brightly, looking around to see if there were any of his friends nearby he could celebrate with. He spotted Branson and hurried after his friend, following him out with every intention of gushing over their successes.

Once again, Weston had made it to the Great Hall early. Ms. Finch had told them not to bring anything to today's lesson, which he hoped meant they would actually be apparating today. He tried to stand with his friends, but Ms. Finch immediately yelled at them to spread out. Chastened, Weston tried to find an empty spot, jumping a little when a wooden hoop appeared in front of him. He glanced questioningly at Ms. Finch, who appeared to be scrutinizing him. It was more than a little unnerving.

Weston tried to raise his hand to answer her question, but she pointed to someone else. He blanched a little when she mentioned splinching. Did that really happen that often? Weston had certainly heard horror stories about people splinching, but his mum and grandmother made apparating look so easy. He'd never splinched while sidealong apparating with them.

It was soon time to practice. Weston stared intently at the hoop, his destination. Next was determination. Well, he certainly felt determined. And finally, deliberation. Weston tried to turn on the spot with an air of deliberation — and tripped over his own feet. Unfortunately, he didn't even trip into the hoop. Okay, so this was a lot harder than it looked. Weston got up to try again. He tried over and over again with no luck. It was rare that Weston grew truly frustrated, but he was definitely starting to feel irritated with himself. Every so often, there was a loud pop, which he knew meant his classmates were finding success. Finally, just as class was about to end, Weston felt himself yanked into oblivion. A horrible, but not unfamiliar, squeezing sensation came next, and he instinctively closed his eyes. When he opened them, he found that he was standing several metres away from his original spot. He was nowhere near his hoop, but at least he'd done it. He'd apparated. Grinning, Weston left the Great Hall, elated that he'd successfully apparated.

The last apparition lesson had been a huge bust, and Jenna's mood around the whole thing had soured substantially. If she didn't need the stupid classes to get her license, she would have dropped it in a heartbeat. But here she was, arms folded and head high as class began. She spread out when instructed, listening as the teacher explained. At least they were actually going to do something today. She turned her attention to the inside of her hoop, and thought about the three D-s. Destination, determination, deliberation. Easy. She could do all of that. She was totally determined to get to the middle of that hoop. Eyes locked on the spot, Jenna waited. And waited. And waited. And nothing happened. "RRRGH!" She growled in frustration, stomping one foot before turning to the teacher in irritaiton. "It's not working!"

Rune could feel the butterflies having a war in his stomach. He felt like his was going to get sick. He did not want to learn to apparate. He did not want to splinch himself. He just wanted to get this over with or even better skip the class. He knew that wasn't an option, although Rune was seriously considering it as he entered the Great Hall. He wished he could turn around and run away, but his feet would not move. He stood along some of his classmates as the lesson begin. Rune could barely hear the professor over his own nerves and his buzzing ears. He cringed at the mention of splinching themselves and the idea of bleeding all over the floor. The professor had said this so casually. It terrified Rune.

His heart was pounding as his feet finally moved to space out from the other students. A hoop was placed in front of him. Rune was sweating slightly, his hands clammy. He closed his eyes trying to focus on his breathing. He had this. Nothing bad was going to happen. He repeated this over and over in his mind, hoping he would believe it soon. He opened his eyes realizing how much time he had wasted. Other students were already in their hoops but not everyone. Rune had not seen anyone fall to pieces yet.

He let out a sigh. He tried to think about the three D's that they had covered. He knew the destination. He was determined not to get splinched and come out in on piece. And he could deliberate. He had this, hopefully. Rune closed his eyes and pictured the inside of the hoop. Nothing happened for a long time. Finally out of no where, his stomach twisted. It felt like he was going to throw up. He knew the nerves were bad but he didn't actually want to get sick. He opened his eyes to try to focus on one spot in the Great Hall only to realize that he had done it. He had apparated inside the hoop. His legs felt weak. His stomach still not the best. He did not like this one bit. Rune sat down in his hoop for a little bit. He had done it once that was enough. He had to feel better.

He didn't for the rest of the lesson though. Rune sat there in his hoop until they were dismissed. Getting up on shaky feet, Rune left the Great Hall. At least he had done it. He was in one piece. It was terrible, but he had done it.

Ryder had been so bored with the last appariation lesson. They had just been lectured about some dumb three D's that seemed rather obvious anyway. They only had three lessons of this before the exam and the ministry worker had wasted the first one. At least they would be able to give it a try today, or so Ryder had remembered she had promised them that anyway. He wasn't too hopeful since the ministry worker didn't really seem to care to teach them.

The Slytherin boy entered the Great Hall. He joined his fellow classmates, ignoring his brother as he did so. Ryder was thrilled to learn this, but he could tell from his brother's demeanor that that wasn't the case for him. What a baby Ryder thought as he turned to pay attention to the ministry worker. She seemed to think it was funny about the splinching, even making a comment about getting blood everywhere. Ryder rolled his eyes. It wasn't that big of a deal.

Finally, they were allowed to attempt it themselves. Ryder spaced out and looked at the hoop that appeared in front of him. He closed his eyes and focused. He pictured the hoop in his head. Ryder waited for what felt like forever until something finally happened. He felt a twisting in his stomach, much like when he took a portkey. He opened his eyes to find that he had made it into the hoop. Part of his shoe was outside the hoop, but for the most part it was a success. He was still in one piece though as did seem the people around him. He had done it. Ryder stood in his hoop until they were dismissed. This was just too easy. Why did people make such a big deal about appariation?

Indi was curious to see if they’d actually get to apparate today. As far as she knew they only had a few lessons and she didn’t want to waste them all sitting around talking about theory. She supposed it was fairly dangerous but that's why they should practice. She fought the urge to roll her eyes as the instructor led them into the great hall. They could only move so fast as a group. She lost the battle when Ms. Finch fussed at them to space out. But her irritation was replaced by curiosity as a wooden hoop appeared in front of her and the rest of her classmates. Indi nearly cracked a smile when Ms. Finch said they would be apparating finally. “Destination, determination and deliberation.” she raised her hand and answered in a clear and confident voice. Then it was time to focus and not think about splinching.

Taking a deep breath, Indi stood firmly with her wand in hand. It was just about focusing on where she wanted to go and doing it. It was simple really when she thought about it like that. She tried to hold on to that belief as she kept her eyes glued to the hoop in front of her. Maybe believing she could do it would be half the battle. With a final mental push she felt her vision blur before her body constricted and felt as if it was flung to the other side of the room. She gasped when she came back to herself and she let out a shaky laugh when she realized she had ended up right in the center. The jump had been exhilarating but she couldn’t claim to enjoy that feeling of being out of control. But today was a success and she was glad for that.

River had done all the reading that she possibly could about appariation. She had gone through books after books even if they had only mentioned the skill once. River wanted to be ready. She had limited time to get this right, just two more lessons before her exam. She could not fail the exam. She would never hear the end of it. After all, Emmaline had passed her exam the first time. It was only expected that River did the same. Not only that, River really did want to learn this skill. She wanted the new freedom that would come with it.

The purple-haired girl entered the Great Hall, not having anything on her except for her wand. The professor had mentioned to pack light in the last lesson and River had definitely listened. Although it felt odd not to be carrying about a bookbag full of textbooks and note taking items. Surprisingly, River felt like she was standing up straighter without the heavy weight on her back. She held her head high as she found a spot in the Great Hall alongside her classmates.

The professor did not waste time before starting. She was as ready to go as River was, except River felt like she had a better attitude. The professor told them, rather harshly to space out. River did as she was told. Soon a ring appeared in front of her, not right in front of her, but definitely close. They were starting small, which made sense.

River thought about the three D's, Destination, determination and deliberation. She had this. She had read everything that she could. She knew the process, the important facts. Now she just had to do it. River thought hard about the destination, inside the ring. She pictured it in her mind as she would do with any Transfiguration or nonverbal magic. She imagined the hoop, closing her eyes. Now the determination. She had that down. She was more than determined. The deliberation was next and probably the hardest part. River thought over the three D's over and over again until an odd feeling appeared in her stomach.

It was like she was being sucked through a water slide going at extreme speeds. Her stomach flipped around, not the most pleasant feeling in the world. But when she opened her eyes again, she was in the hoop. All the sickness melted away with her excitement. All her work had paid off. She had done it. She had appariated into the hoop in front of her. Of course, longer appariation would be more difficult, but this was a great first step.

The students were soon dismissed. River stepped out of her hoop, more pleased with herself than she had been for awhile. She left the Great Hall, tempted to try to find Emmaline and tell her the great news.

By the time Lucie's next apparition lesson had come around, she had remembered The Three D's like the back of her hand. She didn't want to get to the next lesson unprepared, as the teacher seemed rather strict and she didn't want to get on her bad side. The teen gathered around with her classmates as the teacher started talking. Some hoops appeared in front of each of the students and Lucie knew it would then finally be time to start putting everything to practice. The teen closed her eyes, focusing on The Three D's as best as she could as she tried to imagine herself standing right in the middle of the hoop that was just in front of her. She wasn't sure how long she had actually been standing in the hoop, but when she opened her eyes she was very much there, and she beamed, happy that she had been one of the successful ones in that lesson.

Louis made his way to the Great Hall with the rest of his peers. He decided he would take some writing equipment with him this time, as he almost forgot The Three D's during the week. He had to consult his sister, who had a better memory than him, and luckily she knew, as he was starting to lose some sleep over it. But he knew them now and wasn't ever going to forget. The teen took his writing equipment out of his backpack as he waited for the important Ministry lady to begin, but when she did, she conjured some hoops in front of them and immediately told them that they were going to start putting it to practice. Everyone seemed delighted about it, but Louis was a little taken aback. Surely there was a lot more theory work to do? This was quite a difficult thing that only people their age and older could even attempt. Why was she throwing them in the deep end like that?

Louis dropped his quill to the ground with a shaking hand as the instructor mentioned bleeding everywhere. What did she mean by that? And what was splinching? He looked towards the nurses who were there to help them if anything happened, but that wasn't good enough. Why did anyone at all think this was good enough? Why was she throwing out terms they weren't even familiar with yet? Was there a lesson he had missed? There was no way Louis was doing this. Furious, Louis picked up his belongings and stormed out. He didn't care about learning how to apparate anyway.

If Salem had been excited for their first apparition lesson it was nothing compared to today now that she knew they'd actually be practicing the real thing today. She hurried over to a free hoop, smiling as she grabbed one nex to Natalia, giving her friend a smile as she tried to get a good view of the instructor as she started a brief introduction and Indi even managed to answer the question before they were left to get to their own practice.

Salem had convinced herself she'd be a natural at this; she'd done side-along apparition with her parents practically her whole life after all, but she was finding it a little hard to focus. First she spent too long simply just staring a hole into the floor in the middle of her hoop before realizing she'd zoned out, then she got distracted chanting the three D's in her head, realizing she wasn't actually achieving anything with it. Plus it was hard not to want to watch as her friends and classmates achieved various success with their own attempts too, Salem's own eagerness to manage it herself rising with each pop that sounded in the hall. Eventually, she managed to hone in, feeling a tugging and flowing with it, body relaxed as she felt herself shift and pop back into existence, nearly losing her balance as she tried to step forward and stumbled. She'd managed to move though, no where near her hoop, but Salem was discouraged, eager to keep trying until the lesson ended.

Natalia had been very interested in continuing apparition lessons after the last time, she had been very interested in the subject and had done some research of her own in her free time. She remembered everything the teacher had told them last time, including the three D’s and how they were relevant. She had remembered not to take anything with her, leaving her pockets empty and her hair unbound as she entered the great hall for the next apparition lesson. She already stood apart from everyone else when the instructor told them to spread out, so she barely had to move. She raised her hand to name the three D’s when the instructor asked, but Indi was picked to answer instead. It didn’t matter, she doubted she could give house points if she wanted. They then got a few instructions, as well as a reminder of the nurse being on site to help them out if they splinched. How embarrassing would that be? Natalia tried the whole lesson to apparate, trying to focus on the three D’s. It took her a while, but she eventually managed to apparate into the hoop. She tried a few more times until she felt more confident in it, then looked around to see who had managed and who hadn’t yet. She felt like she was doing well, which made her smile. When the lesson was over, she left with a smile on her face.

Alice arrived in time for the second appariton, so we had to wait a little while for the others to arrive. As soon as the lesson started, she entered the hall and listened carefully to what the representative of the ministry was saying. They had to stand in such a way as not to disturb one another. Alice didn't say anything when the questions were asked as she tried to overcome her fears before trying the three D when she would have to use them in practice.

While he breathed in and out, overcoming his fear, he realized that it would not be so easy, and still he had to concentrate on the lesson, but he had to do it in order to have the satisfaction of a job well done. Alice took her place in the room and stood by the hoop. The girl tried to remember everything, how it was supposed to be done, but fear made it difficult. Alice tried to focus on the hoop, then her mind flashed around the three D where the girl wanted to go and he had to focus very well on that. It took a few minutes before he felt anything, then it felt like a small jolt. She tried it so many times that by the end of the lesson everything was almost right. It would take some time to practice, but it could be tried later. When it was over, she left the Great Hall.
