A Day of Flight

Estrella's expression was contorted in a frown, paranoia consuming her as she flew around, attempting to get a better look. She hoped that he wouldn't get lost over the cloud cover- now wouldn't that be a story, losing the date she had just gotten to the Yule Ball.

She did not see him burst out of the clouds, starting a bit and gripping her broomstick, her knuckles white as she gripped the smooth wood. She laughed nervously as she looked to him. He seemed to be alright.

Trying to cover up her worry, she forced a grin, adding, "Yeah? I figured they would be. Seeing as they're moisture and all."

Jaken cocked his head to the side. She seemed to look worried. Considering the grip she had on her broom. He laughed a bit too. "It's a shame how kid stories led you to believe that they are fluffy." Jaken glanced up, thinking that it will rain one of these days. He turned to her and asked, "Do you want to fly around a bit more, or throw a quaffle around? It's your choice." He gave her a reassuring smile.

Estrella attempted a grin back at Jaken, glancing back up at the clouds. Her voice trailing, she stated, "Yeah-" and looked back to the Fifth Year Slytherin. She had had the same thoughts about clouds being fluffy and solid, although that could probably be attributed to muggle cartoons.

She shrugged. "Either is fine with me, although I don't think it'd hurt to toss around a quaffle."

Jaken wondered where he had gotten the idea that clouds were fluffy. Surely not from his father. I bet it was mom. She was the one giving me crazy ideas on how good the world is. Jaken turned to Estrella, wishing that he never went into the clouds and almost gotten lost. The coldness in his hair and clothing made him a bit cold.

Jaken felt rather relieved to hear her say that the tossing a quaffle wouldn't be so bad. Jaken smiled, "Okay, quaffle it is. Um, where do we get the quaffle?" Jaken looked about, curious.

Attempting to push her worry aside, Estrella gave him a sly grin. "Well-" she pursed her lip, more than a bit amused, "I do have one in my trunk somewhere, although it would almost to be silly to go rummaging for it at this time of day." Indeed, in an hour or so they would be approaching darkness. "It's a nice thing that they have extra ones in the broom shed."

Without another word Estrella dropped down slowly on her broom, her eyes alight as she strolled into the compact space that had been so carefully tended by Groundskeeper Willie. Her dark eyes trailed along the quaffles, taking her time to decide, as she bit her lip, her expression one of elation. She had not been so excited in years, especially over something as trivial as a ball. At least, she had been dismissing it as trivial, although beneath the surface she was immensely excited about it. This time, she was having no problems letting things beneath the surface flow over. She had the right to be her own person, and was not going to let anyone else make her think otherwise.

Her hand moved over a Quaffle that was not caked with mud and dirt, rubbing it off a bit on her robes and observing it as she held it up. The weight was good, and it was as shiny as she could get it to be. Determined not to look silly she attempted to surpress the broad smile on her face to a slight grin, moving out of the broom shed, closing the door and swinging her leg over her Amethyst Streak. The red ball impairing her arm movement as she held it snugly to her body she flew back up to Jaken, her eyes flickering with a bit of competitiveness. He was the Slytherin keeper, after all.

Tossing it in the air and catching it again repeatedly, she inquired, "So, how are we going to go about this, Mr. Styx?"

Jaken grinned, and looked at the sky. Indeed, it would be dark soon. How time does fly whenever you are having fun. Jaken listened to Estrella, and just as he was about to offer to retrieve a quaffle, she flew down to the ground. Jaken forced the broom to lower to at least thiry feet from the ground. Jaken patiently waited for her to fly up to him.

Jaken laughed silently to see her fly up with the quaffle. Jaken saw the feeling of competiveness in her eyes. He smirked a bit. However, he wasn't a good chaser, so he couldn't prove that he was better than her unless some other chaser was here. He shrugged, "I suppose just toss it around before it gets twilight."

Estrella smirked broadly, turning around to Jaken. She ascended into the air, keeping her eye on him. She spared him any dialogue, suddenly turning and whipping the red ball at him, the object disappearing from her hand quickly, sailing towards the boy. Indeed, she was up for some competitive play before the night struck, even if it was just toss around.

Jaken watched her pitch the ball at him, rather unexpectedly. Jaken swiftly grabbed the quaffle and smirked, realizing what nice feel it had, and that his reflects are working just fine. Jaken glanced back up at Estrella, and without a warning, threw it back to her, but not too hard either.

Estrella's dark eyes followed the Quaffle as it sailed towards Jaken, and he caught it without effort. Smirking, she caught it with one hand as it sailed towards her, her competitiveness getting the best of her. "Is that all you got?" she challenged playfully, tossing the quaffle to waist height and administering a swift kick to it, causing it to go sailing across the pitch. It was going a long way; she wondered if her flying partner would be able to catch it.

Jaken watched Estrella catch it with ease. However, he felt something missing. Competitiveness. He didn't have any as of the moment, whereas Estrella did. Jaken brushed it aside, considering he didn't want to be competitve over throwing a simple ball around. He cautiously watched her kick it, and it soared well past him. Jaken shot a Look at her and vaulted after it. He traveled at high speeds and passed the sailing quaffle up. It descended, and Jaken swung his body to the other side of the broom, causing him to become upside down. Luckily, his legs were strong enough to hold. The quaffle landed softly in Jaken's left arm. He flipped his body back to the right position and threw it with all his strength to her. He smirked, wondering if it would sail past her.

Estrella's eyes followed the quaffle as her flying partner sped down the pitch, her concentration moving from the red ball to him. For a moment, it seemed as if he wasn't going to catch it. Her lip pursed in worry as he swung upside down, not sure if it was intentional or not, but all the same his legs seemed capable enough of holding him up. I may have to try something like that one of these days, she thought to herself, knowing that she could always use different keeping skills. If she used a variety of techniques the other team would not be able to expect her next move, and that was her goal. She didn't want to be predictable.

She had to brace herself as the quaffle sped towards her, with speed that whispered of strength that she could only achieve by kicking. As far as strength was concerned, she as a female was at a disadvantage; but, she did have agility on her side. She may not be able to throw as far or hard but she could move around like no other. She spun ahead of the quaffle, which was long past her. She used her 'Starfish and Stick' trick that she had picked up from Quidditch through the Ages, making as if to fall off of her broom. She clung tightly with a leg and an arm, the other two spread eagled out. With a smooth move she caught the quaffle in a curling of her arm, the trick having never failed her.

Grinning back at her opponent, although he was probably too far away to see her expression, she held onto the quaffle, soaring into the air. She simply let go of the quaffle unexpectedly, wondering if the fifth year could catch it before it hit the ground. She watched as gravity attempted to claim the ball.

Jaken watched the quaffle soar toward her with impressive speed. He smiled, seeing that maybe she wouldn't catch it. It would give him an excuse to laugh. However, he grew impressed with her trick, upon doing that once or twice himself. Only, the last time, he lost balance and fell off the broom. Luckily, he didn't tell her that story, as if it didn't matter. His team won that game. Jaken wondered silently what was next.

His eyes widened. She dropped the quaffle! And he was far from her. He leaned forward, gaining extreme speed toward the quaffle. He cursed gravity itself. He realized that if he didn't do something quick, then either the ball would hit the ground, or he would crash into the ground. It came too close to the grass. Jaken swung to the side, caught it, but didn't have enough time to ascend. Jaken didn't notice what he had done until it already happened. He stared up at the sky, laughing silently, seeing that his back was on the grass. He sat up, and glanced over at his Ruby Streak, not far from him. Luckily, it wasn't harmed. In his arm, was the quaffle. He glanced up at Estrella. He didn't bother getting his broom. He waited to see whether she would come down to the ground herself.

{Haha I made him crash, ^-^}

A rather mischievious smirk played about Estrella's lips as she watched Jaken's attempt to catch the quaffle. Her dark eyes followed his descent, realizing soon enough that he wasn't going to make it. The ball had fallen too far, and while the fifth year Slytherin had gone after it full speed he wouldn't get there in time. Her eyes widened as she realized that he was going to try and catch it anyways. She figured that he would have the sense to pull up.

She gritted her teeth as he came extremely close to the ground. He did not come out of it without scratches, however, letting out a gasp as he skidded across the ground a few feet, the boy still holding the ball. Swerving down quickly, she landed none too gently, racing over to him.

"Merlin! Are you okay, Jaken? I swear I didn't try to make you do that!" she inquired hastily, her eyes large in worry. She wasn't sure whether to try and help him up or let him lie there. If he was hurt, the former would not be a good action to make.

Jaken sighed, he should have used his legs to pull up. He watched Estrella swerve down to him. He saw the worry in her eyes. Jaken glanced to the side, silently summoned his broom to his other hand. He laid the quaffle to the side. He glanced up at her and nodded, "I'm fine. I know you didn't make me do that. I kind of...forgot to pull out of the dive." He gave her a reassuring smile.

Jaken decided to stand up. He slowly stood on his feet. He then discovered a sharp pain in his back. He had that feeling before, in the past. He bent his arm behind him, and felt the skin behind his shirt. He had scrapes from the ground. He shook his head, "That kinda hurt." He laughed a bit.

The look of concern had not dissipated from Estrella's face. Although he was trying to be reassuring she was not reassured that he wasn't hurt at all. Boys were notorious for keeping any kind of feeling inside them, whereas girls were quick to address it right away, whether it was pain or sadness. Men! she thought to herself. She would never ever begin to understand them.

"You're not fine," Estrella stated bluntly, gazing back at Jaken knowingly. The way he had stood up was not normal; the fall had taken a toll on him. "I know that whether you are going to fess up or not." She smirked, looking back to him and wondering how back his back really was. Well, he could stand at least. That was a feat. She wasn't trying to be dominating or anything but she didn't take such issues lightly.

Jaken sighed. He knew that she knew as well that he was indeed, hurt. He had always shrugged his injuries off. He had hid them well in Potions. He sighed again. He wouldn't be able to fly as well as he did before the incident. He didn't want to spoil her fun. He blurted out, "Look, I just wanted you to have a good day out here, and not have me ruin it. Apparently, I am a bit more clumsy than I thought."

He smiled and continued, "I will fess up then. I am hurting, rather badly, but it is tolerable. I am not going to say that I'm not hurt, but I am more than capable of handling this. It is nothing compared to my latest accident on the broom." He chuckled. Jaken added cheerfully, "At least I didn't wreck in vain. I caught the quaffle." He would have hated to crash for nothing. He wondered whether she was a bit more cheered up, and perhaps the concern would lower just a bit.

Estrella gave Jaken a wary look, smirking at him as he at least admitted that he was hurt. She was thoroughly positive he was still sucking it up, however, and she fought the impulse to shake her head. Boys.

"Are you sure you don't want to get it checked at the hospital wing?" she inquired, biting her lip. She cared about her friend, and he really had gotten hurt because of her. Although this time around with one she was relatively close to it was physically and not emotionally, even though that wasn't really any better.

"You did catch it-" she stated with amusement, her voice trailing off as she looked back at him, her brown eyes wide.

Jaken laughed, thinking of being sent to the hospital wing. Jaken smirked, "You want to look it the scrapes yourself? They didn't even bring blood. I felt more pain from that Bouncing Bulb in Herbology. And that one knocked the breath out of me." Jaken wondered if she felt guilty. Just in case, he added, "Don't feel bad. I get hurt all the time. I just...didn't let you know that at the lakefront. I thought it would make me look weaker." Jaken shrugged, and in doing so, grimaced a tiny bit.

Jaken nodded, "So, I didn't go down in vain." He had amused her. He could see it in her eyes. He couldn't help but wonder what his looked like as of right now. Probably embarassment, though he wasn't blushing.

Estrella smirked back at Jaken. "Okay then, so what do you presume we do? In any case you prolly shouldn't be flying after that." And to add on top of that, dusk was quickly approaching. "Don't worry about it- admitting to pain isn't weakness." She smiled at him encouragingly, adding, "And I agree, I hated those things! I still have a scrape on my jaw from that." Indeed, she still had a tiny scrape on her jawline, although it was healing more and more by the day.

Jaken thought just for a moment. "I wouldn't able to pull off the fancy stunts." He glanced to see the dusk. He smiled, "Instead of flying, perhaps we can watch the sun set in the sky, on the broom of course. I can do that." Jaken noticed the the stinging began to tingle just a bit, and lessen the pain he was in. Jaken laughed, "Pain doesn't show weakness, half the time. Clumsy-ness does." Jaken looked closely at her jawline, and grinned, "Looking better. I have already healed; thankfully, I'm a fast healer."

Estrella's lip pursed as she looked back to the boy, her face stricken with amusement. "Are you sure?" She didn't think that he should be flying at all if he had actually hurt his back. She chuckled nervously. "I guess I show weakness all the time then!" She usually wasn't clumsy, but she did have her days where she was simply a klutz. "How can you have already healed?" She raised an eyebrow at him.

Jaken's hand clinched his broom, and he got on it and hovered from the ground. He ascended slowly. Jaken smiled as the tingling ran through his spine. It didn't bother him, as long as he didn't lean forward. Jaken laughed, "Surely you aren't as big as one as I am. Being a klutz, that is. I don't think you are as easily distracted." He then felt his chest. He hasn't looked at his ribs since the bulb punched him. Jaken shrugged, "There might still be a bruise...but I don't feel any pain. That, in my term, is healed." Jaken laughed a bit. He wondered if she would come up with him, as he ascended as high as the hoops.

Estrella had soon found herself jumping on her broom as Jaken talked, having no choice but to follow him towards the hoops. She laughed. "Not easily distracted? I guess it depends on the day." She smiled. "Well, it's good that you don't feel any pain, but you probably shouldn't chance worsening it anyway."

Jaken smiled as Estrella followed him. He laughed with her, "Depends on the day? I guess it is better than all the time." Jaken sighed. She began to sound a bit like his mother, sounding worried. "Chancing is what I live on. Life is boring if you don't risk anything." Jaken pointed out. "Besides, this is all we are doing." He pointed at the sky, slowly turning a bit pink and orange.

"It is better than all the time-" she stated, her voice trailing off. She smirked, hoping that she didn't sound too bossy. However, she could tend to be paranoid about things from time to time and his inevitably lead to worry. "Just make sure you don't get yourself hurt during that, shall I say it, chancing," she added, grinning broadly as her dark eyes trailed to the skies. It was rather pretty- she would never imagine that a boy, especially not Jaken, would appreciate the beauty of a sunset. The colors were spilled across the horizon like a rather eccentric painter who had all the time in the world with a canvas. The sun setting also meant curfew in an hour or two- but in this case, dinner.

"Well, it's better than the clouds in any case," she added, better appreciate this while it is going on. Winter was a time that tended not to have beautiful sunsets, and that season was fast approaching.
