HNZ Birthday Werewolf 🐺

This is the forum variation of the game "Werewolf"/"Mafia".


The Story:
It is a small town of Obsidian Harbour, close to New Zealand. The townsfolk are enjoying the time while their children and relatives are at Hogwarts New Zealand. Everything seems to be going well until they find a mysterious ring near the pier. It was an Ouroboros ring. There was a new threat looming.

The next day, cloaked people stood in the square, making their presence known. The Scitorari have descended, and they seek to rid all the good doers of Obsidian Harbour!

Team Ministry: You will need to find and lynch the Scitorari members, and survive!
Team Scitorari: You need to kill all the ministry folk without getting caught.

How to play:
  • Sign-ups will begin immediately and close in a week - 5/5/25. Once closed, PM's will be sent out to each player with their roles and/or instructions if required.
  • The game will begin on 5/6/25 with the night phase. During the night, no one must talk in the forum. The ministry folk will be sleeping. Anyone with night roles, you will need to PM me with your action - if you so choose to.
  • When the sun raises, I will reveal the outcome from the previous night, and all players can discuss who they believe the Scitorari members are. You should decide between yourselves on who to lynch. Dead players cannot talk. You can lie and deceive all you wish, but you absolutely cannot share your PM with your role to any player.

And now, the roles!
  • Scitorari- You are the enemy. Each night, you may choose one person to visit and kill. If/when you are killed/lynched, your role will show up as a Scitorari member.
    • Additional Scitorari - First is at 11 players, second at 17, third at 23
  • Ministry Officials - You do not have any special powers, but your role is very important. Lynch the Scitorari, and survive!
  • Seer - Once per night, you may look into your crystal ball, and see the role of one person
  • Faux Seer - You think you are a seer, but your use of tarot cards and scrying leave you with uncertain answers. Once per night, you may draw the cards and see a role of one person, but the roles are random. They may or may not be correct. Upon death, you will show up as the seer. You will not know you are a faux seer until the end of the game.
  • Healer - At night, you may visit a player to heal them if a Scitorari attacks them. You may also protect yourself once per game. If you try to heal a Scitorari member, you will die.
    • Additional Healer - Second at 15
  • Minister of Magic - You lead the ministry officials. Your vote to lynch off players will count as 2 votes.
  • Azkaban Guard - Once per night, you can block a player from using their night action.
  • Ghost - You will not know that you are a ghost until you are lynched/killed. Your role will be tole that you are a ministry official. However, once you are lynched/killed, you can choose to take someone down with you for revenge the following night.
  • Curse Caster (at 12 players) - Once per night, you may visit a player and cast a spell to take their voice away. Your target will only be able to communicate with GIFs, except with choosing a name to lynch.
  • Auror (at 14 players) - You cannot be killed by the Scitorari at night.
  • Hit Wizard (at 16 players) - Once per game, you can choose a player to strike down who you believe is a Scitorari member.
Additional Notes:
  • During the day phase, bold your votes. If you are changing your vote, be sure to put that in there as well.
  • The game is OOC, so one account per person. Use it during the whole game, so it might be best to use your main account.
  • If there is a tie with the lynching votes, the death will be settled with RNG.
  • Since we have a lot of time zones, each phase will last 24 hours. This should give everyone ample time to plot, discuss, murder, lie, etc.
  • All game discussion will need to be in the thread, or via PM with the Scitorari members. Do not communicate outside the thread!

We have two but scits work together so they would have been choosing only one to kill

Thing is though, I'd want to keep the not super active players because it'd be easy to stay on top of the conversation if you're an active wolf.
Truue, I guess it depends if the active players are barking up the wrong tree, though - it’s useful for the Scits to keep people alive if they’re loudly suspecting all the wrong people (I have been kept alive a couple times in previous games for this reason HAHA)

I kind of want to vote a bit earlier today, so that I can change my mind if people come in with more info. I hate being the first one to vote again but nobody else is really talking much about voting yet. So based on the fact I think Kiersten might protect a typically-active player on night one, and the fact she’s been unusually quiet so far, I vote to lynch Amber Chou Wilson

(I have considered that Daphne as a Scit might try hard to be as active as she usually is, as not to draw attention, but it’s the best I got atm)

Edit 2: I’m curious, if the guard blocks one Scit, does it block their kill even though there are 2 scits? @Professor Killian Borisyuk

pls i'm so scared this is what it looks like but i'm genuinely just lost xD I keep rereading the rules etc and missing important key points anyways. I'm just gonna have to see what others think for a bit and make my voting decision later
 
At this stage im not personally suspicious of Daphne, you're right that she's usually active and the fact she isn't tells me she's not a wolf, she's played this game too much to think we wouldn't notice and iirc she's been good at the game when I've played with her in the past, so I would chalk this up to her being busy.

In saying that, Marga and Cyndi both seem sus to me, one of those reasons is because my gut just tells me Marga is guilty, but this could just be me. I know she's something, I don't know what, but she has a role as something, I'm sure of it. Cyndi too, I am a little suspicious of, but I can't quite say for sure. I don't want to vote yet because I'm heading to bed, but that's my two cents. I'm also really suss of Claire right now because whilst I see the logic in this early vote, it feels suss to me (sorry girl!)

I have two people I'm currently sus of and that's Kadi and Faye (and I'm saying this because I think with how this conversation it is going to be absolutely amazing if I survive this phase and the night phase)
Ooof what an unfortunate series of events :) I guess the bright side is narrowing down one of the special ability roles.
This post has seriously been bugging me xD Who says unfortunate series of events and then smile? Could be just a typo xD But more than that, I don't think narrowing the special ability roles is a bright side. Especially so early on in the game. There are two Ministry officials left and all the special roles that we have left are killable at night. It doesn't help that they voted for me to make it a tie =)) Why me? Why not Verity or Cyndi?

And the reason I'm suspecting Faye is because it was Zeph that was killed the previous night and I know that if I'd been a wolf I'd have killed Zazz early on in the game cause I would be convinced she could smell wolf on me. =)) I would also be upset if Faye had been playing confused to get away with murder =)) The only reason I'm holding off for the moment is because the amount of confusion she playin is very plenty
So from what I am gathering is we hace two scits?…….. and a dead healer?

and my brain decided to interpret it in the moment that the first additional scit would be at 17, for what reason? Who knows.... sobbing rn IT LITERALLY SAYS SECOND AT 17

but looks like this night Mia was hit by the curse caster, I'm still not sure who'd I'd sus on because again idk any of your play styles nor clearly am I very on track with the whole game bc I keep getting confused over smallest things
 
Hmm if Zazz's gut is saying Marga and my gut is saying Marga, that's got to be something! If you're not the scit then I am sorry, but I vote Ai Nightray.
 
So I just read back and realised Zephie pointed out yesterday (when Zazz was cursed) that a Scit could be hit by the cursecaster

Daphne chimed in then to say that anyone could be hit (subtly deflecting suspicion away from Zazz, if there was any)

Zephie then dies overnight

Now I accuse Daphne of being a Scit and Zazz immediately jumps in to defend her

They've both been pretty quiet up until now, other than to defend each other. I realise there are special roles that can help people potentially confirm innocents, so jumping to someone else’s defence isn’t necessarily suspicious, but it’s fairly suspicious at the start of the game, when there haven’t been many opportunities to use night time abilities. Let’s say Zazz was the seer or faux seer - she’d surely be more likely to look at (for instance) Marga than Daphne, so them jumping to each other’s defence seems odd to me.

Not only did Zazz immediately defend Daphne but she also threw out 3 suspicions based purely on gut feelings (more deflection?)

I hope my logic makes sense, just want to explain why I’m voting as I am (and sticking with it for now :lol: )

If Marga isn't scit then Zazz likely is, and Claire's theory is probably right. I need to think on it some more because... šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

I have to say this is a hilarious reason to be suspicious of me lol. But yeah it was a typo with how emojis work here. I had originally put an upside down face that got auto switched to a smile and I guess I didn't notice. And yeah, picking you was completely random out of the three.

And I'm still vaguely suspicious of you. I get saving yourself but you could have also three way tied to up your odds of survival without voting for Sarah at the absolutely last second.

Again I'm probably biased but I wouldn't immediately take Daph's silence as guilt because I know she's capable of being perfectly chatting and still tricking me x_x

Claire is making some good points about a Zazz and Daph alliance. But I'm also growing a little suspicious. She was first to vote today when there's still plenty of time to discuss but I guess I can see it as a way to get things moving. Also first last time but that feels less of a reason because I know time was it was late.

I don't think I'll vote quite yet but currently I think I'm leaning towards Daph.

My werewolf play style tends to be pretty bold HAHA. I did want to get the discussion moving, so there wasn't a repeat of last night - where by the time voting started, I had to go to sleep and couldn't have changed my mind if someone came in and made a more compelling argument

I knew being the first voter twice would make me a bit sus but I'm okay with that for the sake of prompting some discussions really

I protected me and why would I make a three-way tie that would make my chances 66% when I could make it 100% for that day phase and just hope I make it through the night without scits killing me off?

Edit: Also, I voted for Sarah at the last second, despite my hesitation that I mentioned posts previous that it's unlikely to be Sarah, because you made it a tie with me at the last second. I voted less than 10 minutes after you did because I've been put in such a position.

I have to read through everything a bit more but I don't think many people are/were playing to usual, just taking day 1 one into account when there were hours between my post and the next post when the pacing is usually a bit more like this day seems to be going. So either folks were being extra, extra cautious or were extra busy day 1. I'm glad it's a more active day today.

I'm unsure about Marga as a Scit. Her early talk was just trying to clarify what was written so I don't read too much into her first post especially because there was an error but her almost daring Zazz 'are you sure you want to risk it?' feels more suspicious. But I think so far I'm most suspicious of Faye because most of what she's bringing up is in the rules. Could be just because it's her first time playing or an attempt to use that so we don't suspect her. Idk yet.
 
True Cyndi, and on that note I'm bearing in mind Daphne might just be busy. I don't think anyone should accept my logic necessarily, I just wanted to share my reason for voting to be clear that I am trying to think about it logically and it wasn't random
(Plus I guess it might be useful to look back on later)

Also at this point I’ve calculated and accepted the low probability of me making it past Day 3 =))

To a certain degree, I agree with Claire re: Daph, but I’m waiting for the hours where Daph’s usually more active which is my usual bedtime hours (thank god for Fridays where I can stay more awake longer) Day 1 was mid-week so people being busy doesn’t surprise me compared to today where it’s nearly weekend

So... it's worth noting that the guard has already confirmed 2 people to be 100% innocent (assuming they used their role both nights so far)

I mean, thinking about this logically.... there are only 2 ministry officials left, everyone else has a unique role. I'm not saying we SHOULD claim roles... but if we did, we'd already have up to 6 pieces of evidence to confirm them (2x seer ability, 2x faux seer ability, 2x guard blocks)

That does rely on everyone having used their abilities, but in any case, the only thing the Scit can really claim without looking suspicious is Ministry Official (every other role would cause a double-up claim), so we'll know that 2/4 of the people claiming Ministry official are lying and then we can probably use the evidence from special roles to figure it out from there xD

And even if we get it wrong the first day, and the Scits pick off one of the useful roles tonight, we'll still have at least either the real seer OR the guard alive tonight, who can check one of the suspicious people claiming a doubled-up role

I don't think the village could lose if we did this.... but please someone poke a hole in my idea if I'm wrong xD

(The guard also knows they haven't blocked the Curse Caster yet)


Edit: otherwise, statistically a special role is going to die tonight anyway and their evidence dies with them
Edit 2: this does also rely on everyone posting in time today so :zombie: might not work

I think that revealing the roles of seers would be helpful if either of them spotted a Scit so the guard can give a shot at blocking them when night comes. Especially now that we know blocking one scit blocks both of them so we’ll find out if a seer is legit or not and potentially have a safe night - woo more survivors.
 
A role reveal day 2 does feel a little crazy but I guess at this rate it might be worth it. Hopefully we can get one of the two scits and nab the other without too much loss.
 
It's pretty crazy but it's also crazy that we have so many unique roles alive and so many ministry officials dead by day 2 haha!!

@Professor Killian Borisyuk - if the guard blocks a Scit, and the Scits attack the guard, what happens?
