Killian might not have been able to duel when he was a kid - due to his giant genes, this was the next best thing. He did wonder how dueling was in Hogwarts New Zealand versus the dueling that was over in Durmstrang. Only time would tell. He signed up again this year to help proctor the dueling matches. At least if a spell went sideways and hit him, he will likely not feel it. "Choose opposite ends of the stage. When you are ready, bow to your opponent, and begin. Whoever wins will advance." Killian took a step back and folded his arms across his chest to witness the chaos.​

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Lumos smiled at Magdalene. He wouldn't have said they were friends, but he liked her well enough. She was lucky she and her sister managed to get into the same house, that hadn't been the case for him and Nox, but he did consider him and Maggie to have some things in common. "Let's make it a good one, huh Maggie?" He said, before quickly shooting at her with a simple stupefy.

Maggie had wanted to make up for her poor dueling performance last year. She had done okay, but she didn't win, and that just wasn't her showing off her best self. The Ravenclaw took to the platform and stared at Lumos, indifferent about the pairing. She hoped it wouldn't matter in the end, as she had to go through everyone to be the champion. She smirked at his comment and blocked his spell, hoping that wasn't his attempt at distracting her or something, before sending back a spell of her own. "Expelliarmus!"

"Protego! Rictusempra!" Apparently she is no nonsense. That was okay, he could work with that. He hadn't gotten out in his first duel last year and he wasn't about to be taken out in his first duel this year either.

"Protego!" Maggie called, blocking Lumos' spell. One thing she enjoyed about dueling was having to be creative and quick on your feet. Before a moment had passed, she waved her wand and sent a slug vomiting curse towards her opponent.

He quickly shielded and locked his feet into place as he thought through the spell list and hit her back with tarantallegra. He thought he'd like to watch her dance.

Maggie felt so focused, maybe a little too focused or not quite focused enough as Lumos' spell hit her legs and she felt a wave of magic take over, moving her legs and dancing around the stage. She grimaced, deciding whether she should stop the effects or let them continue for a moment before waving her wand at her legs. "Finite," she said quickly and then looked up at Lumos. "Wanted a show, huh? Stupefy," she sent back. She couldn't think of anything to send back that would have perfected her banter, but maybe she didn't need to if she stunned him quickly enough.

Lumos rather enjoyed the show, grinning as Maggie took a dance around the stage a little. He clapped her, of course, because he was being polite and then when she freed herself of the spell, he readied for her next one, blocking it quickly. "Expelliarmus!"

Maggie finally felt her legs feel normal again just in time to block Lumos' disarming spell. She thought about a spell she'd been working on and decided to try it out on Lumos, really hoping he blocked it. "Reducto!"

Maggie was somehow near the edge of the platform and nearly fell off as she blocked the next spell. She rasied her wand and cast another spell. "Engorgio!"

Lumos was so shocked by the spell choice that he forgot to block it and it instead hit him in the left hand, which made his hand swell and made it very difficult to sort of stand completely up right because now his hand felt way to big for his body. Thankfully he still had use of his wand hand, but felt he would be unable to dodge appropriately. He would need to make sure that he kept his wits about him, because he was going to have significant trouble moving. He returned a spell, with everte statum.

Maggie watched as her spell hit and smiled before putting her focus back to the defense. She blocked Lumos’ spell. “Stupefy!”

With his enlarged hand it was a little more difficult for him to move the way he wanted to, but he wasn't about to be taken out with a knock out spell. He barely managed to block as she aimed at him, and then he tried to hit her back with the same spell. Stupefy.

It was getting harder and harder to move with his swollen hand. Could he just finite the effects? He honestly wasn't sure. When he saw her spell coming he jumped out of the way.
