@June Davenport vs. @Oswald Brambleheart

Kahurangi had never helped run the duels before, but after having so much fun competing last year she had jumped at the chance to help out. Later on today she had a title to defend, but first she would get to monitor the students' duels, to see what they could do and maybe even get some ideas if any of them were particularly tricksy. Her second pair were two prefects she was fairly sure had a contentious relationship, and she made a mental note to monitor their conduct closely as she made sure both duelists were in their proper positions before she spoke. "Alright, welcome to your first duel of the day. I expect a clean fight, but give it your all. On my mark, you may bow to your opponent, and begin. Ready?" She glanced back and forth between the two students, before giving a tiny nod. "Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Oh, of course Oz would face June round one. Of all the people in the year level...still, Oz would just do his best. He knew he could beat her in a duel, and he knew she'd be insufferable if she won which only inspired him to try harder. But he'd fight fair, he had a prefect's badge after all and he had to be a good role model. He bowed to June politely and quickly fired off a babbling curse before she could say anything snarky.

June was determined to do well at dueling this year. And she had seen the list of students who signed up. When she saw she was paired to Oswald for her first duel it made her very determined to beat him. She had a lot of thoughts and spells she could fire at him. And it would just be luck the first time that he beat her. June gave an sugar sweet smile to Professor Kahurangi. And than looked at Oswald with an smile, bowing to him and hold up her wand. Deciding to let him begin, to make him think he had an chance. The spell he fired was boring and June easily put up an shielding charm to block it. And quicky fired an silencio his way.

Part of Oz wanted to rile June up by commenting that a silencing spell, which he blocked with a quick shield charm, was such an obvious and boring choice. Soon enough he'd be able to cast spells silently, though he wasn't quite there yet. She was, however, full of hot air, and as such he decided to cast a hot air charm on her wand.

June watched the little hufflepuff and saw him block her spell. Beginners luck. June wanted to say a lot of stuff but decided to just think them in her mind. And looked full with confidence towards Oswald. Blocking his spell. She decided to go for something fun. And casted an incendio, aiming at his robes. Which was not far from the ground.

Oz had to give credit to June, as much as he didn't want to - she was actually very good at what she did. Of course, you could respect someone's skills without liking them. Oz thought he could dodge as she aimed low, but she hit the hem of his robes with an Incendio spell. He had got to fix the tailoring on these. "...the hell is wrong with you?" he spluttered, shrugging out of his robes and stamping out the flame before it got unmanageable. Now he was just a bit cross, and fired back with an instant scalping hex.

June watched her fire spell going toward Oswald. As she hit the hem of his robes she smirked proudly. When he commented she already felt good, and it made her smirk even more. What did he think this was? A childs play? He should try harder. She stayed silent, because there was an professor and she wanted to achieve higher goals later on. And just focused more on beating him. When he fired back after stopping his own fire, she was quick enough to cast an shielding charm. And fired an good old petrificus totalus his way.

Morrie had been disqualified from her own duel but that didn't stop her from standing on the sidelines, arms crossed, judging everyone else's. She made a point to stop and watch June's duel because she was hoping to see June get seriously injured. But, as usual, June was doing just fine, much to Morrie’s disappointment. She scoffed when Oz asked what was wrong with her, "What's right with her is a shorter list!" Morrie called out, before raising her hands in mock defence, "Just saying!"

Oz was a little invigorated by the shout of the younger girl in the crowd. Yes, it was petty, but Oz had never claimed to be free of pettiness. He could accept his faults, unlike certain other people in the arena. The fire had, appropriately enough, fired him up, and now without his robes weighing him down he could move a little more freely, blocking the spell that came his way with some quick reflexes. He quickly fired back a stinging hex, having a bit of fun with some of the new spells he'd been practicing in the leadup.

June watched her spell get blocked by the little man. And made herself ready. And heard the annoying voice of moaning morrie. She was not gonna be distracted by that pig. And ignored her since she knew that made her just feel irritated. And let the professor handle her. She would only bring herself in trouble. June blocked Oswalds spell with an shielding charm and quickly had her next spell ready in her mind. Casting an expelliarmus aiming at his arm. Hexes were stupid. She wanted the more powerfull and fun spells.

Oz had a lot riding on this. There weren't many Hufflepuffs competing so he had to try and represent the house well. Audrey had lost her duel so a part of him had to win either to rub it in her face or to get vengeance (or both?). But he mostly wanted to knock the smug superiority off of June Davenport's face. He blocked the spell, and fired back with a muffliato. It gave him a moment to think of his next moves, and if her hearing was hampered, bonus.

June casted an shielding charm as Oswald blocked her spell. June decided to pick up the pace. And end this. “Stupefy.” The blonde casted. And tried to picture in her mind the victory.

Block, counter. Even with the fire, Oz was in a comfortable rhythm. He shot back a trip jinx - simple, yet effective.

June focused on her goal. She could try to burn him again. But decided to go for an classic. After putting up an shielding charm against his attempt. “ Expelliarmus.” June casted back still full of confidence. Picturing what she wanted.

Sweat beaded on Oz's brow, but thanks to Quidditch he was pretty fit and able to keep going. And with the freedom of movement, he felt even more energetic. He'd have to thank June once it was done. He would need some water though. He blocked the spell and fired back with a petrificus totalus.
