Kahurangi had never helped run the duels before, but after having so much fun competing last year she had jumped at the chance to help out. Later on today she had a title to defend, but first she would get to monitor the students' duels, to see what they could do and maybe even get some ideas if any of them were particularly tricksy. Her third pair were two sixth years, including the club president, and she was excited to see what the two older students would bring to the table. "Alright, welcome to your first duel of the day. I expect a clean fight, but give it your all. On my mark, you may bow to your opponent, and begin. Ready?" She glanced back and forth between the two students, before giving a tiny nod. "Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Savannah felt pressure to actually do well. Where she hadn't ever really felt it. It just, this was her club, she was leading this event, surely she had to not fail at the first duel. That and she was keen to hopefully face off against Anisha again. Savannah bowed to her opponent, she knew Leah well, but was hoping to win this. Savannah raised her wand and cast the stinging hex

Leah had been eagerly awaiting the tournament and hoped this year she might get past the first round. She knew she wasn't awful but it was a shame the rest of her classmates were less awful than she was. But when she saw she was going up against Savannah first she wasn't sure if she liked her odds. She bowed quickly but unsurprisingly she was the slower one to react. But she cast a shield charm in time and fired off her next spell. "Langlock!"

Savannah couldn't help the little disppointment she had the moment that she failed to immediately win the duel, of course it wouldn't happen like that. She blocked the girl's spell, and wasted no time in casting, "Levicorpus," back.

[Ruth Thorne]

Ruth was watching the duels with interest, getting some idea of the skill level of the other duelists in the school and learning what sort of things to expect for next year. Just casually, of course, lest anyone get the wrong impression. What was more helpful though and what was the main reason she was actually in the audience was to watch both Cyrus and Leah participate. She had swapped her blue ribbons very quickly for red ones, and watched her cousin with interest. "Yeah, Leah! You're awesome!" she cried, hoping to encourage her a little.

Leah was focused, or as focused as she could be as she waited for Savannah's next move. But when she heard Ruth's voice it she spared a glance to the crowd just long enough for the other girl to catch her offf guard. She was able to move out of the way in time but her rhythm was off. "Obscuro!" she cast and planted her feet as she tried to ground herself again.

Savannah was a little startled at the shout, but rolled her eyes a little at it. Though doing so did almost cost her the duel. She just barely managed to get a shield up in time. She cast the bat bogey hex back.

Leah gripped her wand tighter as she readied herself for Savannah's next move. At least she had been started slightly be her cousin too. But not enough to slip up. She expected nothing less. She was ready this time as the other girl fired back and she blocked it with a well timed shield charm. She was itching to use something a bit flashier but she held back. "Incarcerous!" Some ropes never hurt anyone.

Leah readied herself as water came rushing her way. She cast a shield charm in time before it could knock her off the platform but as the water fell harmlessly in front of her it soaked through her shoes. This wouldn't be good for her concentration but she composed herself to fling another spell. "Confundo!"
