Open Y46 End of Year Feast

Cornelius didn't attempt to bite back a bitter laugh at the younger girl's comment, raising an eyebrow. "Studying all the time doesn't make someone that good. I know it's nice to think our education system is fair and free of corruption, but I assure you it's far from. No matter how hard the rest of us might work, there are always people totally happy to buy their success and jump the queue." And people whose parents loved them enough to buy that success, unlike his. No, Cornelius was expected to succeed through hard work alone, and apparently that hadn't been enough.

Hazel noticed Morrie's reaction to her comment and flashed her a quick smile. After Valentine's, she was going to make an effort to be nicer to Morrie. Surely, she was nice, deep down? "Are you okay?" She asked, aware that June probably lost intesest in her now that Hazel had aligned herself with Morrie over her. But hey, second years had to stick together right? Or maybe not, as Kyousuke chimed in. "I heard we won like, seven years in a row." Hazel said with a shrug. "I think it's fine for another house to win sometimes." She said, aware it was probably a divisive opinion in Slytherin. She was also aware she was one of the people not 'pulling her weight' as he put it, but she didn't really care.

Once the boy laughed at her, Vanity knew she couldn't let this go. "See, you say that, but maybe you're just bad at studying." She pointed out coolly. "I don't think it's fair, but I also don't think anyone but nerds care about house points. Who would bribe someone for fake points that don't mean anything?" She rolled her eyes. "Now a head boy badge I believe." She smirked. "Must suck though, trying your best and not measuring up." She said lightly, inspecting her nails.

Cornelius felt his blood boiling, biting down his frustration. He refused to even entertain the comment about his studying habits, it was preposterous. He spent plenty of time studying - more than the rest of these idiots, he dared assume. He had perfectly colour coded study schedules and all of his quills were trimmed to perfection - he even used a magnifying glass to make sure the angles were optimal for writing. He had every facet of studying down to an art, and that was a very time consuming hobby! It may have eaten into his time actually hitting the books, but anyone who saw his study space would be impressed with how dilligent he must be. The comment about head boy though... he scoffed dismissively. "We'll see, two years time and I'll be wearing that badge, count on it." He lied.
