@Professor Percival Zephyrmoon v @Professor Kahurangi Josephs

Gabrielle was probably mad to volunteer herself to supervise duels again, but on the other hand, she hadn't volunteered to actually duel her fellow staff members so she was probably not as mad as she could have been. She did feel rather bemused as she gestured for her colleagues to take their positions, feeling somewhere between inadequate and simultaneously too powerful. "Well, we have a bit of a treat for the audience this year, with a staff championship title on offer. Pay attention, students, you might learn a few things." She looked between Percival and Kahurangi with a quirked eyebrow. "I certainly hope I don't need to remind either of you to keep it clean, hm? Ready?" She stepped back, making sure that they were both ready to go before nodding. "Have at it."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Percival had dueled in his youth but had to admit he was rather rusty of late. He stepped up to the platform, wand in hand, and listened to Gabrielle's instructions, giving a small nod to show he understood. Percival had never been very good at small talk. He quickly moved on to the task at hand. "Incendio!" he cast, beginning with a mid range spell.

It had been far far too long since the last round of staff duels and Kahurangi looked forwards to having the chance to flex her muscles once more. She had put in quite a good showing in the last tournament, and now that Aeon wasn't around to best her she was looking forward to taking the victory. She didn't know the new professor she was facing off against, but bowed politely in greeting before taking her place. She let the newcomer strike first to get a decent measure of his style and abilities, but she was braced to retaliate. As the fire shot towards her she conjured a large wave of water that crashed forwards, both drowning out the fire and surging towards her opponent to knock him off guard.

Percival’s instincts kicked in as he saw the wave approaching, though his reflexes had grown a bit rusty over the years. Still, he felt a spark of his youth when he cast, "Duro!" turning the wave to stone. With a flick, he immediately followed up with "Confringo!" The stone shattered into a cascade of small rocks, hurtling toward his opponent.

Kahurangi had been braced to shield herself, not trusting her opponent to go down so easily, and with a quick flick of her wand a banishing charm sent the rocks flying away from her in all directions. She was quick to retaliate, feet shifting as she cast a caterwauling charm on the section of the platform Percival stood on, hoping the loud, ear-piercing wail would startle him into dropping his wand.

The caterwauling was unbearable. Percival, wincing from the noise, had no choice but to turn his wand on himself and cast "Muffliato" to muffle the sound. The silence was a relief, but it left him at a disadvantage, unable to hear anything in the room. Feeling unbalanced without his hearing, he hoped to even the score and swiftly sent "Incarcerous" towards Kahurangi.

Kahurangi couldn't help a small grin as Percival reacted, pulling up a quick shield to block his spell. She swished her wand and mouthed silently as though she were conjuring something directly behind him, hoping to distract him from the "Expelliarmus!" she cast a moment later.

Percival was disoriented and didn't pick up on the lip syncing. He managed to block the disarming spell more by luck than experience. Feeling his age catching up on him, he took a moment before firing back his next spell, "Levicorpus!"

Kahurangi was pleased to see Percival on the back foot a little bit, easily pulling a shield up well before his spell struck. Sweeping low she cast below her opponent, the ground beneath his feet freezing into a thick, slippery layer of ice in hopes of completely bowling him over in his confusion.

Already feeling worse for wear, Percival's world turned into a disorientated blur as the ice formed beneath his feet. He struggled to keep his balance and his wand hand wavered. Desperately, he tried to cast another spell, but his senses were gone and it was off target. With a final slip, he fell to one knee. Percival knew it was over. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay upright, and raised his free hand in a gesture of surrender. "Alright, Kahurangi," he said, his voice shaky but resolute. "You’ve got me. I yield." The old man's concern now was how on earth he'd get up again.

Percival yields

Gabrielle was impressed by the display, she hadn't gone to many duels of late and the staff had that higher level of skill and experience compared to the students. It seemed that Percival knew when he was outplayed, though, and Gabrielle also made a mental note not to get on the wrong side of Kahurangi. "Professor Josephs is our winner!" she called, stepping forward and applauding. "A round of applause for our professors, that was an incredible duel. Well done." She nodded towards the Ravenclaw Head of House, extremely impressed by what she'd done, before moving over to help the Astronomy professor up. Even if mostly just to clear the way for the next duel.
