@Tempest Vero vs @Conan Elliott

The tournament was nearly at an end and if Angel could just make it through one more match without any serious maiming, explosions, or slug incidents, he would be happy. Once the two competitors seemed ready, Angel directed them up to their places at opposite ends of the platforms before addressing them and the crowd. "Welcome to your final round of duelling! you should know what you're doing by now so let's keep it clean. The victor will be crowned out third year champion and the loser will sadly be eliminated so give it all you've got. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.
The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Tempest cracked her neck as she prepared herself to take on her final opponent for the tournament. It had been a suprising chain of events that had led her to this moment, but the Slytherin was no longer questioning her abilities. After all, she had defeat two opponents, and in turn, beat the people they had beat. And all she had was one more person. She didn't recall ever having spoken to the boy or even cared to glance his way, but her attention was squarely on him as she stepped onto the platform. She looked out and gauged who was watching the duel. Making eye contact with Enzo, she took a deep breath in and sent it directly out her nose, zoning in on Conan.

Professor Castillo started with the usual, but he then said that they would be a third year champion. She wasn't sure how they were supposed to trust his ruling of the duel if he wasn't even sure what year he was proctoring. But Tempest didn't want to give a chance for Conan to throw a spell her way and quickly bowed once Professor Castillo finished before throwing a stunning spell at the Gryffindor.

Conan felt like a bit of a mess, hands sweating and legs shaking just a little as he rose to the platform to face his final opponent. How he had even managed to get into the finals of all things was completely beyond him. The past two duels felt like nothing short of a whirlwind and the Gryffindor had absolutely no idea how he was going to get through this one. No ideas, no strategy, and the constant feeling like he was going to throw up any moment.

"Good luck," he still managed to get out without stuttering, offering the Slytherin girl a shaky looking smile. Then it was go time, Tempest managing to be the first one to raise her wand, though that was no surprise to Conan. He was, thankfully, quick enough to put up a shield charm to protect himself, dropping it so he could fire back a quick Expelliarmus.

Tempest hadn't watched any of Conan's duels, which she was realizing now might put her at a disadvantage, but she paid attention to his body language, something her father had taught her, to see if she could pull out any clues. "Protego," she said swiftly, blocking his simple spell and sending back a jelly legs jinx, hoping to embarass him quickly.

He was still incredibly nervous about this and just a little bit shaky, though the Gryffindor was trying to keep all of that under control. While he had no expectations of winning, it would still be nice to put up a fight. Managing to block the counter attack, Conan had to stop for a moment, taking a breath as he tried to think of what spell he wanted to send back. Though, it didn't take long for one spell to pop into his head, aiming his wand back on his opponent, "Tarantallegra!"

Tempest almost thought she had a moment to send another spell back to Conan as he paused, but he came back at her before she could remember if that would have been allowed. She thought it probably would have seeing as Professor Castillo thought he was at an entirely different duel. Tempest held up her wand strong and blocked Conan, feeling a little too confident. "Are you ready to give up?" she asked. Tempest wasn't sure how "trash talking" worked, but she had seen other students do it, and she thought it added a lot of character to the duel. She had practiced the slug vomiting curse with Enzo since her last duel, and while it still was a little wishy washy whether it would be successful if she did hit Conan, she figured it was worth a shot and sent it to her opponent.

"No!" He was quick to shout back, "I don't give up ever." He wasn't very good at this trash-talking thing, but he knew he wasn't going to just throw in the towel. He was still determined to try and win if he could, even if he was unsure of himself. Though he felt a new burst of confidence, feeling a little bolder as he blocked the next spell heading his way, not having to think about it at all as he fired back with a Stupefy.

Enzo was content with the fact that he had lost his dueling tournament against Mischa. He had tried, and while he hadn't been as successful as she had hoped, he hadn't necessarily practiced either. He would much rather watch Tempest, as she was doing pretty well. He was a little worried about whether or not she was sticking with the strategy they had talking about, but he knew that his sister would forge her own path no matter how much they had 'set in stone.' He snickered at the two trying to be mean to each other, as they were kind of terrible at it. "Focus, Em!" he called out, hoping that Tempest could have something to be proud of after everything they had been through this year.

Tempest didn't have a chance to roll her eyes at Conan as she blocked his spell. She really didn't know him, but he didn't necessarily seem like the persistent type. After all, had he done anything of note yet at school? Tempest threw the thought away quickly as she realized she had also not done anything of note, but she knew that was about to change. She could feel it in her bones that within the next few minutes, Conan would go down, and she would be named the victor. And if she felt it that hard, it had to be true. "Pretending to be brave for your friends?" she asked. "Rictumsempra!"

Conan almost shouted back 'what friends', but managed to stop himself before he ended up embarrassing himself. He didn't really have anyone he could call a best friend at the castle. And he didn't even think anyone he was friendly with were in the audience, either. There was no one he was trying to be brave for, he just wanted to see how far he could take himself in the tournament was all. Though he was a little slow to block the next spell, having to quickly dart out of the way to avoid being hit. But he was still in one piece, so wasn't ready to give up just yet, "Petrificus Totalus!"

Tempest stared Conan down as she blocked his pathetic attempt at a spell. Why was he not giving up? Did he not realize that she was good enough to beat him? Tempest sent back a stunning spell, worried that her feeling may have been wrong.

He knew he could do this, he just had to try and pace himself and not do anything incredibly stupid to lose this duel. That was the plan, anyway, managing to get his feet under him to block the next spell, quickly firing back with another Expelliarmus.

Tempest watched as Conan blocked another spell of hers and clenched her teeth. She was having trouble comprehending how she could possibly lose. And what happened if she lost? Part of her had hoped that if she won, her mother, who she believed was lying to her about where there father was, would let her write him. And she could tell him how she'd won the duelling tournament and he would be so proud of her that he'd have to come back. Because part of her also felt like maybe the reason her father hadn't taken her with him was because she had disappointed him. She hadn't done anything at school to make him proud during her first year, and he took the twins and Thad. It made sense why he left Effie and Sade, and part of her had understood Enzo, because she thought he had probably disappointed her father, as well. So, here she was, trying to prove to him that he should have taken her with him wherever he was hiding. And if she lost this silly little duelling tournament, she had no leverage. And that terrified her.

In the midst of all her jumbled thoughts, Tempest zoned out for a moment, enough so to see Conan's spell coming straight for her. She reflexively ducked, popping back up as she heard it hit the wall behind her and looked directly at Conan. She couldn't believe she'd let him embarass her like that. "Everte Statum!" she yelled, angrily sending the spell towards the Gryffindor.

Conan sort of hoped he was getting under his skin, it meant he was doing something right. It seemed as though she was starting to get annoyed, so that just had to be a good sign. Duels were supposed to be hard, anyway. He once more raised his wand, blocking the incoming spell, not really fancying being shot back across the platform. That would probably hurt, and he didn't want to risk completely falling off and losing that way. If he was going to lose, he was going to do it standing on his two feet and not just falling off the edge of the duelling platform. So, with that thought it mind he turned his wand back on the girl, he cast a quick Jelly-Legs Jinx.

Tempest grimaced as Conan blocked her spell again. She didn't like this anyone. She didn't want this to be so hard. Her other opponents were easily defeated, or so it felt. She wasn't prepared as her attention was drawn away by frustration and gasped as she felt something hit her and a tingling sensation trickle down her lower half. And as it did, she could feel herself becoming unstable. It was as her entire lower body was falling asleep, and she was worried that her footing was going to be gone. She wobbled a few steps forward, attempting not to fall, but confident that if she did fall, she would still keep throwing spells until Professor Castillo dragged her off the platform. "Stupefy!" she sent back, trying to ignroe the pain and sensitivity in her ankles.

ooc: i'm basing her reaction to the spell off Hogwarts Mystery

OOCOut of Character:
Sorry for the late reminder, but heads up, this duel times out in approx 6 hours unless a winner is decided before then

OOCOut of Character:
This duel has timed out and the winner decided via RNG is Tempest Vero!

Tempest could feel her legs start to give out, and as soon as she saw the spell leave her wand, she dropped to the ground, catching herself on her knees for a moment before looking up as Professor Castillo declared her the winner. She wasn't sure if her spell had hit, or maybe Conan had just given up, but she didn't bother to look his way. The Slytherin looked out at her brother in disbelief, who was grinning wildly at her. He pointed his wand at her legs, presumabley stopping the effects of the jinx, and helped her to her feet. In the last few moments of the duel, she was convinced that she would lose, as it had very much been her luck lately for things to go sideways. But somehow, she won, and Tempest finally felt a grin fall on her face as she looked over at Conan presuming he was concious and smirked, tossing her hair back in satisfaction. She had finally shown the whole school she was worth something. Maybe her father would think so, too.
