Yvonne stepped up to the dueling platform and greeted the students. They looked too young to be dueling but she knew it was all in good fun, hopefully. She was pleased to be back proctoring the tournament again and was looking forward to seeing how the students would do. It was a good way to show off what they had learned in their lessons after all. "Welcome to this year's tournament." she said brightly. "The winner of this round will be moving on to the next. Be sure to keep things fair and no funny business or you will be disqualified." Yvonne added trying to seem stern with most likely mixed results. "Now you may face your opponent and bow before beginning. Good luck to you both!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Fin had decided to try out the duelling tournament this year, though he didn't know why. Curiosity, perhaps? It was not like he was very skilled with a wand and didn't expect to win or anything. But he might as well try for the heck of it. He only offered the boy opposite a short bow before straightening, firing off the first spell which popped into his head, "Locomotor Mortis!"

Dorian was keen to finally get a go in a proper duel, he'd been prepping for it all month, but he was not enjoying the fact that he had to do it on stage in front of anyone who wanted to watch. Did they really have to make a spectacle of the whole thing. He was uncomfortable enough he nearly missed the first spell, shoulders around his ears as he straightened up from his bow to Finley, hurriedly pulling a shield charm just in time to block the other boy's spell. Not the smoothest start and Dorian tried to get his head in the game, not letting himself over think it and simply sending back a stunning spell.

Finley just offered a small frown as Dorian managed to block his first spell. He supposed it would have been too easy otherwise. He returned with his own shield charm before firing back with a quick Expelliarmus.

The audience was distracting but the spells he and Finley were using weren't anything different from what he'd been practicing in class since last year. This was easy, he assured himself, throwing up a shield charm again to block Finley's spell with more confidence this time. Yes, he could defintiely do this, dorian thought, firing off a trip jinx to try and gain some advantage.

Duelling was turning out to be much harder than he anticipated. Fin raised his wand to try and block the next spell, but he was just a little bit too slow and the next thing he was aware of his feet were tripping over absolutely nothing and he was landing flat on his face. "Ow," he mumbled, looking up from the ground and hurridly trying to get back up again. Thankfully he hadn't dropped his wand, firing off a quick Rictusempra to try and give himself more time to get back on his feet.

Anisha made a point of watching all the second year duels, she wanted to see what she might be up against. She had spent this entire duel quietly wishing for the Hufflepuff boy to beat Dorian. If nothing else, she wanted to get further into the tournament than he did. She winced when the boy was hit by a spell, but was glad to see he stood back up.

Dorian felt a stab of satisfaction as his spell hit and Finley hit the ground, grateful that it didn't look like he was actually hurt by it as the other boy struggled to his feet. It gave Dorian splenty of time to block his incoming jinx and he quietly filed the spell away to practice later before sending back a jelly-legs jinx, hoping to move fast enough to keep Finley off balance.

Finley had already quite decided that he didn't really like this dueling business. He apparently wasn't very good at it, and if it meant smacking your face into the floor, he would quite like to not do it again. But he wasn't going to give up, having to duck out of the way of the next spell before it hit him, huffing as he managed to finally straighten all the way up and send back a quick Stupefy.
