@Leah Thorne vs @Anisha Khatri

Angel stretched as he stepped up to the duelling platform, motioning to the two students to join him at opposite ends before surveying the crowd. Content everyone looked ready, he addressed the gathered students. "Welcome to your first round of duelling, let's have a nice clean duel today. The victor will be able to continue on to the rest of the tournament, and the loser will sadly be eliminated. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Leah had been dying for her chance to participate in the dueling tournament for over a year at this point and she was so excited to finally have her chance. She was less excited to be facing Anisha. The other girl was so smart, but she knew she wouldn't be an easy competitor either. With a quick bow she raised her wand and sent out her first spell. "Expelliarmus!"

Anisha had been thrilled to finally be allowed to compete in this tournament. She wanted to prove to Indi that she was good at this too, to impress her sister. It was unfortunate that her first opponent was a friend, but Anisha was still determined to win. She bowed to Leah, then readied herself and managed to block her hit. "Stupefy!" she then cast back.

[Raafe Khatri]

While Raafe had every confidence Anisha would crush it at the tournament, it was still interesting to see her go up against Leah. He got as close to the stage to watch as he could, simply giving Anisha a confident nod instead of cheering, knowing that was more than enough as he watched them exchange their first spells.

 

[Dahlia Doherty]

Dahlia wasn't competing at the tournament - it seemed fun, though she was more in to team sports and she knew her spellcasting left a lot to be desired - but that didn't mean she wasn't going to go and support her friends. Anisha and Leah were up against each other which was pretty tough to watch. Dahlia couldn't deny curiosity at how the match would go, though. She sat down next to Raafe, who she knew would be supporting Anisha, and watched closely, hoping both her friends did well.

Leah raised her arm quickly and cast a shield charm and her heart was racing. It was such a rush. She suddenly understood why people did this for a living. Without missing a beat she sent back a jelly legs jinx.

Anisha grinned as she managed to block Leah's spell. This was fun. She cast one of her own again. "Locomotor Mortis!"

Leah got a little too caught up in the moment and was a hair too slow in the next round and had to quickly side step the spell coming toward her. But it did allow her to get her next spell of a bit faster. "Everte Statum!"

Anisha smiled slightly as she made Leah dodge her next spell, she advanced a bit, blocking Leah's spell though it was a close call because of how quick it was. She then cast one of her own. "Petrificus Totalus !"

Leah was determined not to slip up again and was able to block Anisha's next spell with a shield charm. It took her a beat to think of a next spell. She didn't want to repeat any but they were second years and only knew so many spells. "Stupefy!"

Leah was starting to think she was getting the hang of this and blocked Anisha's spell before casting one back at the other girl. "Petrificus Totalus!"

Leah was starting to feel a little too comfortable as she tried to think of the next spell she would use. But Anisha was quick and by the time there was a spell coming towards her again. She was tongue tied trying to get up her shield charm, and in the end was too slow. The stunning spell struck her and she felt her whole body tense before falling over. She was disappointed but it had been fun.

[Indira Khatri]

Indi had seen that her sister had signed up for the dueling tournament and had mixed feelings about it. She had told herself that she would ignore the duel completely but her curiosity got the better of her and she found herself among the crowd of spectators. None of the spells were that impressive or even dangerous but that didn't stop her fists from clenching with every round and her stomach did a flip every time Anisha's shield was a second slower than it should have been. But finally it was over and she felt exhausted. At least her sister hadn't embarrassed her yet.

 

[Professor Angel Castillo]

Second years didn't have nearly as many spells under their belts for duels but Angel had to commend the two girls fighting for their tenacity if nothing else. He clapped politely then Leah Thorne hit the ground, straightening his robes and climbing back onto the platform. "Anisha Khatri is the winner!" He announced before bending down to revive Thorne and make sure she hadn't hit anything too hard on the way down.
