Angel stretched as he stepped up to the duelling platform, motioning to the two students to join him at opposite ends before surveying the crowd. Content everyone looked ready, he addressed the gathered students. "Welcome to your first round of duelling, let's have a nice clean duel today. The victor will be able to continue on to the rest of the tournament, and the loser will sadly be eliminated. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Julia was ready for duelling this year, especially when she saw who she was against in the first round. "Ooh, hey Van," Julia excitedly smiled at her dormmate and without giving any second, shot a jelly-brain jinx. "How is your year going?' she asked, still cheerful, ready to block a spell.

This had been a very big mistake. What did Van know about duelling? She could barely point her wand straight. At least she was only up against Julia - losing against a dormmate and fellow Gryffindor wouldn't be half so bad as some Slytherin girl who would probably take great pleasure in her defeat. A jet of light suddenly shot across the platform, and Van instinctively raised a shield to block it. She looked at her own hand in surprise, then up at Julia. "Yeah, peachy. Yours? Tarantallegra!"

Julia gave Van an approving smile when she successfully blocked her jinx. She blocked the spell easily since she had a bit more of experience of duelling. "Oh, it's amazing! Tim told me about your red rose, anything romantic?" She joked a bit and then sent a new bedazzling hex

Julia was trying to distract Van... and it was working. She ducked to narrowly avoid being hit in the chest with a bedazzling hex. When she rose again, she looked slightly flustered. "Yeah, actually, it was - not that it's any of your business," she said. "But a cute boy likes me. Expelliarmus!"

Jules already winningly grinned as Van had to dodge the spell and then almost laughed as she told that a cute boy liked her. "Adorable! Do you like him too?" She almost derisory asked, no, Van was cute, Julia just didn't really think that the boy was honest. She found all those crushes, that they had this year, completely worthless.. "Reducto!' she put a bigger force into this spell for it to be better.

Julia was mad if she thought Van would admit to liking a boy in front of half her classmates and a professor. Anyway, how she felt wasn't important. The fact was, a cute boy liked her. She opened her mouth to say something along these lines and promptly received a face full of Reducto. Van hit the duelling platform so hard she saw not only stars, but the entire solar system. She wasn't getting back up from this.

Angel had almost stopped paying attention as the 3rd years seemed to be gossiping as well as trading spells, caught off guard when Van Voclain took a reducto charm to the face, knocking her to the ground. "Wh- Oh, Julia Black is the winner!" He announced hurried, hopping up onto the stage to check Van still had all her marbles. "Alright? Everything still attached? Let's get you up to the Hospital Wing," he said, easing Van upright and once again marveling at the volatility of the lower year duels.
